Before my pain comes to an end, I will tell you about what really happened.
My day begins as it always have these last 200 years.
In a cave on a mountain, just north from the ancient ruins of Ponyville, A light purple Alicorn opened her eyes. They were Violet and Purple and looked tired, even if they just had opened from a night of sleep. The horn had Burnmarks from a earlier battle and had lost a chip. The mane looked deflated and sad and her left eye was closed and had a long scar running over it. The alicorn removed the blanket she had probably made a year ago from Spider webs and leaves off her body to reveal a tall body with scars everywhere. It looked beaten and exhausted. The right back leg looked broken and were wrapped in sticks, leaves and hay to support it. The alicorn sat up, making the bed underneath her squeal.
I wake up feeling the worst, but I still manages to get out of the so called bed.
The alicorn stood up, removing all the weight of the wooden frame, making it crack in relief. She looked around the cave, looking for something. When she spotted what she was looking for, she set aim and walked strictly but yet tiredly to her goal, her back lag making her limp slightly. She walked quite slow for such a large pony, but considering the condition she was in it wasn't a very big suprise. She walked straight towards what seemed to be a table of some sorts with a cracked mirror that also had a large part of it missing. As she reached the table, her magic flowed out of her damaged horn. It had a purple aura and lit up the cave in a inigolike light. The aura grabbed a object, A brush with no handle and dirty straws. It got lifted up by the alicorns magic and was pressed against it's dirty and deflated mane as it slowly and painfully was dragged through her hair.
I still brush my mane like I have done since the age of 3. Hah hah.
The alicorn dragged the brush through the hair only five times. She then lowered the brush and placed it back at the table. She turned around and scanned the cave once more. She turned towards the exit and set her eyes on it. She lifted her front hoof and placed it infront of the other, and without doing it herself, her backhoof did the same. She took her other front hoof and out that forth, then the next, then the next. Making her walk slowly and painfully. Her steps echoed through the ancient cave and a few golden bits still layed around from the dragon that had arrived at this cave to sleep with it's jewels. That dragon had in the end been chased out by the alicorn and her friends, well, mostly one of her friends. As the alicorn looked at the bits laying around, vauge memories of that day returned. Memories of how brave her friend Fluttershy was. She quickly shook those thoughts off though as she reached the entrence of the cave.
It is a beautiful day. Too bad it will be filled with depression.
The alicorn took a deep breath and walked out. Outside, the ground were scribbled in notes amd formulas. Potions, herbs and books layed around. The alicorn walked up to the middle of the small plateu, and sat down.
"Soon this is done. Soon I will re-unite with everyone I have ever hold dear..." it said. The alicorn stood up from her sitting position and walked towards a small wood stump from a old tree. On it there was three quills, a book and a small ink pot, everything layed neatly on the stump, waiting to be used. The alicorn sat down infront of it and her horn lit up from the magic that flowed out and grabbed the quill to the far right. The quill was dipped carefully and professionally in the ink like she had done this a million times before.
I know you ponies out there want to hear my tale, Hm? I will tell you it. I will write it down for you to read. And I will tell you it all from that day were the accident occoured. I will begin to tell you that I, Princess Twilight Astonie Sparkle is no legend. I am very much real. I live, or well, by the time you read this, Lived on a mountain top. Just above the ruins of Ponyville. But you figuring that out should not be a problem. Anyways, I was born a Unicorn you see. Born in old city of Canterlot. When I was young... very young... I got accepted into Celestias school of gifted unicorns. When she actually was... Alive. That is right ponies. Princess Celestia once roamed this world. She was my teacher. She tought me well...
Well... Now, How did I get here, you might ask. Let's start at the beginning... at the 1000th year of the summer sun celebration. An ancient tradition that was to celebrate Celestias Sun Rising... now it is to keep a so called legend alive. Anyways... It was just an ordinary day in my unicorn life...
"Now let's see here...." A unicorn said to herself as she lifted a book of a shelf with her magic. She did this every day. She got a letter from Princess Celestia, containing tasks for the day. It would often contain reading a spell book and then practicing the tricks inside it, but sometimes it would contain tasks as reading old Novels. Though this task was a very diffrent one. She would read a legend.
An old mare's tale. A myth. Something that did not exist. When she had gotten her letter, she read it over and over.
Student Twilight Sparkle.
What I wish you would look into today is a rather... Diffrent task from what you are used too, but you should complete it without any problem. Your task is to read and try to understand the legend of Nightmare moon.
When you have read it, I want you to scan it. Look for things you have heard of before. Then I will send another letter with more tasks for you regarding the summer sun celebrarion.
From your Teacher and Mentor, Princess Celestia
Sighing, she put the letter down on a desk.
"Spike?" She called out into the still air of her private library. "Spike! Spiiiiike!?"
No answer.
She sighed once more before dipping her head low and trotting over to a shelf in the large library. She lit up her horn and grabbed a book with her magic and gently levitated the book down from the top shelf it had been sitting so peacefully on.
"The story of the Mare in the Moon." Twilight read the book title aloud, letting her voice echo against the old dusty books. She lit up her horn again and grabbed a white saddle bag with a golden star on it. She placed the book in the saddle bag and placed it on her back.
"Might aswell read it outside..." She muttered under her breath and walked to the door.
Well, that is how it began... If you have any clue of who I am, you should know about the rest. Me finding my friends who represented an element each and me myself as the Element of Magic... It was a strange day.
Anyways, we defeated Nightmare Moon after a rather... strange trek in the Everfree Forest. It did bring us closer though, so I suppose it was worth it. We had alot of adventures together. Rainbow Dash won the Best Young Fliers competition, Fluttershy chased a dragon away from the border of Ponyville, Applejack almost harvested the whole of Sweet Apple Acre's crop on her own, Pinkie Pie went crazy and doubted us, Rarity made us amazing dresses for the Grand Galloping Gala and I.. well... I didn't do much. Anyways, all of that happened during the first year of being friends. The second year and third year was filled with new adventures. Changeling attack, Discord, the god of chaos, King Sombra and the Crystal Empire... Adventures, you know? And then it came to that day... The day I first became an Alicorn. We were so happy... I was so happy.
But I didn't know what the consequences would be. I didn't notice that untill 10 years later.
I was just sitting in my castle... Reading some new spell books when Rainbow Dash came storming in...
