Of tests and lovesickness

Previous Chapter

Standardized tests; just another way to push ponies to their limits. Three hours of sitting in an big room, the only sounds audible are the scratches of pencils, the shriek of erasers, and the tip-tap of the exam procter's hooves. For six days straight they were put through this torture, and she couldn't stand it. Waking up at four in the morning only to have to sit in a room for three hours straight. No breaks. No talking. No Twilight. That was the worst to the cyan pegasus, being away from her love. It drove her insane. The dead silence didn't help much either.

"Damn this sucks." the cyan pegasus thinks to herself. "Five more days of this." staring at the test booklet (which she's yet to even open). "This is so boring. Why do they make us do this? What’s the point?" tapping the eraser of her pencil against the top of her test booklet. "I may as well try to do something." Flipping open her answer document and test booklet. "Question one: How many liters of NAOH- will be produced by combusting 2.5g of NA with..." Rainbow stops and scratches her head and groans. "When will we ever need to know this stuff in the real world?" she glares over at a brown unicorn with a test tube for a cutie mark who is effortlessly scrawling answers across the lines of his paper. "Damn him. I bet he's having no issues with this, that prick." she says to herself. "Um, answer B looks good." she fills in the bubble next to B. "Question 2:..."

The routine dragged on for hours. The rainbow-maned pegasus tried to focus for as long as her patience would allow, until finally she let her mind wander once again. "I wonder what Twilight is doing? She's probably cozy in her bed”. Maybe if she'd stayed over at Twi's house last night she wouldn't be here. Right now she'd probably be with Twi, comfortable and asleep. But then again maybe she’d still be here. The lavender unicorn was an honor student and wanted Rainbow to do good as well. She was always nagging her to do her work or study.

The pegasus sighs. "I can’t stand this anymore." she whispers raising her hoof and closing her test and answer booklets. "Can I use the bathroom?" she asks as the proctor reaches her, the stallion nodded and Rainbow wastes no time standing up and hurrying out the door.

Rainbow laughs after she walks out the door. "Now to head to Twilight’s.'" she laughs running her hooves through her mane. "But first, to suck up, so she doesn't get too mad at me. Flowers sound good, roses." On her way to Twilights house she drops by Fluttershy's place to steal some flowers from her garden.

Standing on the doorstep of the apartment Rainbow rings the doorbell and a sleepy unicorn answers rubbing her eyes. "R-Rainbow? What are you doing here, shouldn't you be in school?"

"Well ya, but I couldn't resist being away from you." Rainbow flashed a sheepish smile, as a foal would when cought with their hooves in the cookie jar. "Oh ya before I forget. these are for you." she hands over the roses.

"Oh Rainbow these are so..." she realizes what Rainbow is trying to do. "Hey! Don't think you can butter me up just like that!"

Rainbow just stammers. she wasn't expecting Twi to figure out what she was up too.

"YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST SKIP YOUR TESTS, SHOW UP ON MY DOORSTEP WITH FLOWERS AND EXPECT IT TO BE OK!?!" Rainbow is taken aback by this, she had never seen this side of her marefriend. "YOU NEGLECT YOUR STUDIES, AND NEVER DO YOUR WORK! WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE?!?!?"

Rainbow just looks at the unicorn for a moment and then gives her a hug. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to be with you." Rainbow says, her voice breaking.

All the fury Twilight had just felt seemed to disappear the instant Rainbow hugged her. "I-It's ok." She broke, she couldn't stay mad at Rainbow for long, but this was a new record. "Why don't we go inside? You can make it up to me in there." Twilight led Rainbow into the apartment closing the door behind them.
