Chapter 1: Night After WrestleMane-ia
Sometimes two very different universes can influence each other and create something different entirely. This is one such situation. (No, this isn't relevant, but in case someone's asking how this is possible, chalk it up to this being an alternate MLP universe.)
Hello, and welcome to Monday Night Magic!
I'm Spike Adamle, your broadcaster for the evening. My colleague John "Brayburn" Layfield is taking the night off. Tonight we have a great main event in store for you, as a long-standing feud may well hit its final installment.
It's a grudge match from last night's WrestleMane-ia, as Joan Celestia and Luna Goode take on the Discord Brothers in tag team action. Also, tonight we hear from Equestrian Wrestling Entertainment's Commissioner, Cadence Bischoff, as she makes a decision regarding the still vacant EWE World Championship.
For those who missed it, The Iron Will and King Sombra fought for the belt last night, but after beating an injured Will, Sombra tried to sell the championship to Discord 1 of the Discord Brothers. This move was declared illegal, and Cadence claimed she would have a solution by the end of this program.
Anyway, enough with the setup let's get to the opening match!
...
And we're back on Monday Night Magic, and what a night it has been! We saw the World Tag Team Champions Flim and Flam in action in a non-title bout as they took out Sombra, the most recent King of the Ring and Lord Smooze. We also had two great title matches, as International Champion Spitfire defeated Tommy 'Thunderlane' Rodriguez. Lastly, we got a new Cruiserweight Champion after Larry Lighting Dust defeated "The Fighting Orange Hen" known as Scootaloo,
Now we have come to the main event and the Discord Brothers are waiting for their opponents... and THERE THEY ARE!
One of the most dominant units in this company's recent history and true friends inside the ring and out, here come John Celestia and Luna Goode. The former two-time tag champions told me backstage earlier today that they plan to finally end this long-standing rivalry once and for all.
"This company has suffered for far too long at the hands of the Discord Brothers. For the good of the EWE Universe, we must take it upon ourselves to end this," Celestia said.
"If these cowards want to throw out the rule book, they can rest assured that we can handle ourselves in a fight that goes beyond the boundaries. Let us bring the pain and we shall knock these Discords off their place of stability and throw them into their own living nightmare," Luna added.
Well, it looks like Luna and Discord 1 will start this match. The ref rings the bell and we have begun.
Discord 1 locks up with Luna to open the match and Discord bring Luna into a headlock and goes immediately for the hip takedown.
It has been said that Discord 1 and Discord 2 are actually duplicates of each other, and the only way to tell them apart is that Discord 2 has a slightly lighter coloring, like he's a mirror reflection brought to life, and he hits a back body drop. Cover. 1.. No.
Discord 1 drags Luna into the corner and makes the tag. Discord 2 in and he goes to the center of the ring and there's a clothesline! He wraps the head and hits the running bulldog. Discord 2 and Celesia are having some chatter.
"You'd like to help, wouldn't you Celestia? Just run in."
"Luna can handle you long enough to make the tag. Come on Luna! You've got this!"
Discord picks up Luna and Irish whips her into the corner and OH MY! Luna just flipped over the turnbuckle and landed outside the ring! It's like someone magically replaced the turnbuckle with a springboard. I actually thought I saw it happen, but it looks fine now, so I can only chalk it up to wonky physics.
Discord 2 now outside and the referee has begun the count. It looks like he'll be trying to send Luna into the staircase. Irish whip attempt and Luna counters! Reverse Irish whip and Discord 2 is now struggling to get up after hitting the stairs.
Luna quickly into the ring and finally makes a tag to Celestia. Celestia in the ring and there's Discord 2 finally standing. Uh, oh. Celestia hits the ropes and incoming! Celestia goes over the top rope and hits a swanton onto Discord 2.
Celestia up and drags Discord 2 back into the ring. Cover 1.. 2.. and Discord 1 breaks up the cover. Luna back out and hits Discord 1 with the clothesline. He's back up and Luna hits a second clothesline. Shades of Celestia! Luna picks up Discord 1, carries him to the ropes and PROTOBOMB TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE RING!
Luna jumps over the ropes and uses them as a springboard. Luna just kicked Discord 1 into the announce table!
Celestia is now clear. There's the taunt and now hits the ropes. Falling back elbow! Vintage Celestia!
Discord 2 is struggling to get up. This may be it. Discord 2 is up and has been pulled up. And there's Celestia's signature, the Divine Fall! That standing fireman's throw. Here's the cover. 1.. 2.. 3! What a victory for these two Superstars!
Celestia and Luna are getting a much deserved celebration after that and... what's this?
Cadence's music is playing and here comes the Commissioner.
"Well done Celestia and Luna. Your victory was much deserved. And after careful consideration, I've come to a decision regarding last night's WrestleMane-ia controversy, and it involves you two.
"You see, I do not have any intention of rewarding Sombra for such brutal actions against The Iron Will, nor would I after trying to sell the title to Discord 1. And since the brothers have been beaten. I have decided that at the Backlash event in four weeks, the EWE World Championship will be contested between you, Celestia, and you, Luna! Good luck to you both!" Cadence said.
What a blockbuster announcement from the Commissioner! And if this crowd wasn't entertained before, that decision has brought them to a frenzy.
That will be a match for the ages to say the least. Celestia vs. Luna. I'm excited for this one! Once again I'm Spike Adamle. Good night from Monday Night Magic!
Chapter 2: Three Weeks to Backlash
[NOTE: Ok this one's actually a real note. For those who might be unsure, any unquoted, unchanged words are Spike Adamle's. He's basically the story's narrator. Also, you may notice I'm skipping to certain parts of the episode. That's because I'm trying to keep the story largely limited to sequences that connect to the main feud(s). Don't worry, though. Following Backlash, I'll be inserting a lot of major players into this. Finally, don't assume you know for a fact how this story is going to go even though it's clear what part of MLP is playing out here. I promise you, there are quite a few twists in this universe.]
Hello, once again, viewing audience, and welcome to Monday Night Magic! This is the first of the final three shows that will build up to the Backlash event. Joining me tonight is the color commentator, John "Brayburn" Layfield.
"Well, shoot, Spike! I can't believe I had to miss last week, but I am revved up for what should be an amazing show tonight!"
That's certainly right, Brayburn. For those new to the program, I'm Spike Adamle, and following last week's incredible announcement from our commissioner, Cadence, we are now in a serious buildup to a match for the vacant EWE World Championship.
"John Celestia and Luna Goode have been through so much history together. I'll be interested to see how this kind of a match will affect their behavior around each other."
Well we'll get an indicator later tonight when the two competitors stand in the middle of the ring along with Cadence Bischoff to sign the contract for the title match. Until then, though, we have a night full of matches to get to.
...
We're live here on Monday Night Magic and we open the final hour with Feather Weight in the ring as he awaits his opponent. And here comes the incomprehensible gibberish over what sounds like wubs that signal the entrance of Discord 1.
"I have no idea how anyone listens to that nonsense. It's like that DJ Pon-3 stuff only with all the rhythm cut out."
And there's the bell and Discord wastes no time kicking Feather Weight in the head. He quickly picks him up and there's a vertical suplex.
"He seems upset to say the least. He usually toys with his opponents."
Discord is now taunting the audience by doing a little jig.
"Did you REALLY just say 'a little jig?'"
Well in any case he's focused now. Feather Weight is up and is up in the air. EUROPEAN UPPERCUT! There's the cover. 1.. 2.. it's over.
That wasn't much of a match but...
"Stop the music!" Discord said.
"Hmhmmm my my, Cadence. You really think that you can keep me out of the title picture. You should know that I'm not one to give up that easily.
"Joanie, Lulu. I sincerely hope you have real fun going against each other at Backlash, because I'll be waiting in the wings, so to speak. Just remember, the thirst for power can really get to even the closest of companions. I sincerely hope you can keep yourselves intact."
A very ominous message has been made by Discord 1, but he raises a real question about how this title match will affect the former tag champions. Your thoughts, Brayburn?
"When you're aspiring to become the best in the world, it's a lonely road to the top. Whichever of the two gets that more will wind up champion."
Well that confrontation between the contenders will happen in the final segment tonight.
...
We're back and what a night it has been. We saw Doctor Whooves return from injury to win a highly competitive match against Leann "Bon Bon" Binobi.
"It was great to see the Doctor back in action and despite his different look he looks to still be a force in the EWE."
Among the other results, Divas Champion Lyra defeated Octavia in a non-title bout and Canterlot Champion Fancy Pants has made an open challenge for the Backlash event.
"Well Cadence is in the ring now so how about we hush up, Spike?"
And on that note let's hand this off to Commissioner Cadence Bischoff.
"Welcome, EWE Universe to the contract ceremony for the vacant EWE World Championship! Introducing first, Joan Celestia!
"And the other contender for the title, Luna Goode!
"The contract is on the table. Please sign it and if you have anything to say to each other, now is the time to do it. You have the floor first, Celestia."
"Thank you, Cadence. I am more than happy to sign this. The EWE World Championship is the greatest honor that can be bestowed upon a competitor. I'm truly honored to be facing you, Luna, but I am concerned that this could affect our precious friendship. I hope you know I won't be holding back and I expect the same from you, but I hold nothing personal against you. It's all business.
"It's signed. You have the floor now."
"Thank you, dearest Celestia. But let's get one thing clear. You should be expecting no less than 100 percent from me. This championship has been a goal of mine since I got into the business, and I frankly do feel insulted you'd think I would take this personally. When the match begins, our relationship is on hold, but once the pinfall or submission is done, we will go right back to the way things were. Is that the assurance you needed? You know what? Don't answer that. I'm putting this conversation past me, and you should do the same. Now that this contract is signed, I'll see you in 20 days for that prize we all crave."
Celestia replied, "That's all I needed to hear, but I don't need attitude from you."
"You want my all? You're getting full force," Luna said.
"And now that it's official, we will see you at Backlash!" Cadence said as the two competitors stared each other down.
This staredown is just a glimpse as to what Backlash is going to bring. There's definitely going to be one heck of a match coming up in a few short weeks.
"I can already tell. These two are going to be at each other's throats come match time. Their friendship will definitely be tested during that match."
And on that note, on behalf of Brayburn, I'm Spike Adamle signing off for Monday Night Magic!
