Chapter I: Looking Back, Part I
King Sombra stood on a balcony wearing his obsidian-black battle armor, levitating two black scythes. Today was the day that he would take back his lost love, and he knew that it entailed killing Princess Celestia.
That was no more than an inconvenience.
I will have her once again. Sombra thought, his eyes welling with tears at the thought of her.
No! No more self-pity! Now is not the time to wallow in despair. Now is the time to fight for her!
"Luna, I will have you back, even if I have to kill every pony in existence to do so!" Sombra leapt from the balcony, charging across the frozen plains of Northern Equestria.
Celestia and Luna faced each other in the middle of their throne room, Celestia wielding a large white battle axe, and Luna readying a dark blue mace.
"How dare you take him from me, Sister!?" Luna questioned, her expression both heartbroken and rage-stricken. Celestia did nothing more than narrow her gaze further.
"Luna, King Sombra was a tyrant, nothing more than a threat to Equestria. I did what I had to do to save us all."
"Save us all? All!? What about him!? You clearly didnt care about him, so how could you care for your subjects if you cant even show consideration for your own sister`s true love!?"
"Consideration? If I didnt do it, he would have taken over Equestria, and you wouldnt have been an exception!"
"Now I can tell that you`re making excuses. He would never harm me or the citizens of my own home."
"Luna, did you not see what Sombra did to the Crystal Empire? He enslaved them, worked many of them to death! He would have done exactly the same to us."
King Sombra burst through the door, the hallway behind him littered with corpses.
"Luna, I finally found you." Sombra said, a look of relief spreading across his face.
"Sombra! I thought that I would never see you again." Luna teleported beside Sombra, the two of them facing Celestia together.
"So, it appears that you decided to show yourself after all these years." Celestia began. "Sadly, this will be your last appearance!"
Celestia flung her axe at King Sombra, who knocked it away with his scythes. He charged toward Celstia, trying to slash at her, creating two long gashes on her sides. The sun Princess fell to the floor, blood dripping from both her body and Sombra`s blades.
"Sister, you brought this fate upon yourself." Luna attempted to bring her mace down on Celestias head. From her position on the ground, Celestia rose while blocking Lunas attack, then spun in a circle, knocking her off of her hooves. Celestia teleported away and buried her axe in the floor, sending out a wave of yellow magic energy towards Sombra. He was not fast enough to move out of the way, and was knocked into a wall by the attack. The grey unicorn slid down the wall, leaving behind a thin line of blood on the wall.
"This... is the end." Celestia dashed across the room and impaled him with her horn. Sombra`s body disappeared in a cloud of black and green smoke.
"Celestia. Y-You... you killed him!" Lunas eyes began glowing pure white, tears flowing freely. She hovered in the air, not by flight but by raw magic power. Black clouds formed around her body and she faded into nothing, leaving behind nothing but a voice in Celestias mind.
Soon, you will pay.
Chapter II: Looking Back, Part II
The black glow around Sombra`s horn faded as he returned to his new home: a cold, unforgiving icy wasteland. He had watched that memory for the last time, and now he would find his way out. It was no less than a labyrinth, nearly impossible to navigate without getting lost.
It`s been twenty years, Celestia. He thought. Your time of peace is over!
Sombra levitated his remaining scythe above his head and began chipping away at the wall of ice in front of him. He had secretly given Luna his other scythe as a memento. Losing it diluted his power greatly, but it was worth giving her some hope that he would return.
This place has earned its name. The Wasteland of The Damned. Especially now that I`m here.
The scythe changed its color from black to red as it began emanating white-hot flames, melting large amounts of ice. With one swing, a majority of the area in front of him was decimated, allowing Sombra to continue his journey. He replaced his scythe, strapping it across his neck with the blade pointing backward. As he walked calmly, he could hear a scraping sound from behind him. A large white wolf with piercing blue eyes and bloodstained fangs charged towards Sombra.
"Idiot Lupines. Why must you insist on me killing you?"
The slightly aged unicorn fired a beam of green magic energy at the beast, causing its eyes to turn an identical color. With a flick of his hoof, the Lupine`s neck snapped like a twig. He dropped its body to the ground and continued walking. Finally, the former king stopped at a dead end, seeing a beam of sunlight shining through a hole above him.
"Finally! My way out!"
With a flash of green light, Sombra began using a series of miniature teleportation spells to fly up the wall of ice. He landed on its edge and looked around, seeing nothing but snow, ice, and the occasional outline of a Lupine or a native bird.
This puts me one step closer to her. I`m coming, Luna!
Sombra continued running at his highest speed after using a mini-teleport to boost his momentum. A beautiful aurora formed in the air above him, colored in shades of green, blue, and grey.
