//-------------------------------------------------------// Courage: A new Rainbow -by doggyfizzle39- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue I've been living in this city for mostly all of my life, its a really big city with a lot of crimes and bad ponies to live in. I don't belong here. My name is Rainbow Jolt, a Pegasus born with a rare rainbow tail and life has been pretty rough on me. When I was born, my mother had a cardiac arrest and died after she gave birth to me. I never got to see my mom. When I was four, my dad put me up for adoption and I never saw him again. Until about 3 years ago I have been living in the Fillydelphia orphanage, it has many different ponies, but none of them were at all nice. They apparently targeted me because of my rainbow tail and my mare-like appearance, they were saying that I was born gay or I like to be with stallions. None of that crap they said was true but the worst part was that the staff at the orphanage never helped me. They just turned their back to me and left me to be picked on and bullied. One night I woke up in the middle of the night in my bunk bed with a lot of other ponies sleeping and snoring up a storm in the room. I grabbed mostly the only thing I had with me, and that was my sword necklace. Since I was a Pegasus, I was able to quickly hop up and fly down to the ground. I touched the wood flooring and tip-toed over to the door and quietly creaked it open just so I can slip through. The hallway was dimly lit with the windows casting in the light of Luna's moon on the walls. Keeping close to the walls to avoid making noise, I tried to make my way to the door when I heard another pony walking. It was a security guard patrolling the hallways to keep little colts and fillies like me from escaping the building. I saw him round a corner and I quickly hid in the nearest doorway, hoping that the security guard will go away. "Hm? Is somepony there?" he says down the hallway, I could feel my heart thump in my chest as he walks down the hallway closer to the doorway I'm in. Eventually, since there's barely any light in the hallway, he gives up and goes on with his patrol. When he got far enough away, I sigh in relief and slip past him. I continue my search for the entrance of the orphanage when I accidentally bumped into another guard. He looks to me alerts the other guards and they quickly come and circle me. One of the guards tries to grab me but I quickly fly up near the ceiling. While I was staying here, I learned some skills to avoid fights; fast reflexes and quick flying. I fly away from all the guards with my mane dragging across the ceiling. After bumping into many walls, I find a slightly opened window. Hastily, I crashed through the window and fell outside with apparently no glass shards stuck in my head. It was about 2:00 in the morning when I ended up outside in the dimly lit streets of Fillydelphia. I could hear the violence coming from the neighboring alleyways and see all of the poor and homeless ponies lay sleeping in cardboard boxes on the side of the street. Its a disgrace on where this city has gone to and the officials don't even care about it. I shake off those thoughts and keep walking forward. eventually I get tired and find the nearest alley to sleep in. When I do, I go to a corner and try to make myself cozy in the cold and damp alley. When I wake up a few hours later. It felt like the spot I was sleeping in got even more damp. Turns out that before I woke up, it rained a few inches and in the aftermath, left a dense fog that covered the streets of the city. I get up, shake myself dry, and walk out to continue walking down the streets. Later on one building's walls, there was a poster on need brave ponies for the military. I thought a little bit to myself as I looked at the poster and hatched an idea 'I'm not gonna get anywhere if I'm as weak as this, I should join the military and fight for the country," and then it was settled. I memorized the address on the poster and walked on to find the building. Realizing that walking through a very dense fog was going nowhere fast, I took to the skies and searched through the buildings by air. After a few hours of searching through air and ground, the fog started to clear away and I realized that I was right in front of the building that the poster was talking about. I took a deep breath and went in Inside was a small lobby with some chairs and a door that led to another part of the building. There weren't many ponies in the lobby aside from the ponies at the desk. "Well hey there little one," the pony at the desk said to me, I turn to face him. "Are you lost?" I shake my head and walk over to the counter. "Well...Uhm what brings you here little colt?" "I'm here to apply for military" I reply to him, his eyes go wide and moves back in his chair a little bit. He regains then regains his composure and clears his throat "Are you sure about that? I don't think the military would let you join in at this age" " I don't care, I want to recruit!" I slam my hoof on the desk ending my argument. He notices my gleaming sword necklace and thinks about the decision for a minute "...Well you're going to be taken care of in your supervision until you're a bit older, then you'll be able to make an application. Is that clear?" He explains and I nod saying I understand what I'm doing. After that day, my future took a turn for the better. I was put under supervision of nice ponies and had been cared for the next few years of my life. One day, while I was being taught on how the military works, we come up to what seems to be a forgery room with a smelter, workbench, grindstone, and other simple machines. I was amazed by all these things used to make weaponry and armor. they let me look at few of the machines as they told me how they work. That night, I snuck out of my bedroom to go into the forge to tinker a little bit. I got the idea to try and make a sword similar in shape to the one on my necklace. I took off my necklace, got some materials, and got to work. About 4 hours later and a lot of hard work, I finished. the sword I made was gleaming silver and looked to have weird shape to it. In its entirety, it looked to be blocky and very weird, but in my eyes; it was unique. Originally thinking that the sword was delicate, I took the sword and carefully walked it back to my room where I hid it between the wall and the bed and slept. Little did I notice that I earned my cutie mark that night; a sword shaped like the one I made with a rainbow colored hilt When they found my sword, they were amazed on how a young colt could make a sword in a few hours. So they actually hired me to make weaponry for the military. they paid me a good amount of money to do so and I worked until I was old enough for me to apply for the military. While I was in the military, I was taught how to effectively incapacitate enemies and basic survival lessons should I be stranded in the wilderness. After 3 years of serving in the military, I retied early from the military and set out to find a small town to live in. With all of the bits I earned while I was serving, I should be able to buy a small house somewhere. Some of my fellow soldiers told me that a cozy town for me would be Ponyville, I figured that was a good place to go. So I bought a train ticket for Ponyville and set off.
