Morning Disruption
Load Full StoryIt was lovely morning. Octavia had invited her ensemble over to rehearse for a show they were preforming later in the week. She’d like to be perfect when playing. Practice makes perfect after all. “Alright then ladies, from the top.” They began playing in unison. They sounded right on key. Not one note missed. Octavia began to chime in during the beginning of the song, using her new Maestro Valise Redwood Mark IV Cello. It was a gift from her cousin Fiddlesticks. They continued play-*boom* *boom* *boom* A repetitive beat kept hitting Octavia’s ears. She stilled her bow and rested it on a string. “Oh, you cannot be serious...” The beat became louder, traveling from upstairs. Her ensemble continued playing never stopping. The beat went well with the music they were playing. Vinyl was doing her everyday morning jam session. “I am so sorry, excuse me for just... one moment.“ She set her cello back in her case and closed it tight and headed upstairs to Vinyl’s room. Even though she would be right back, she wouldn’t want anything to happen to her cello. Octavia sighed and stormed upstairs to her door and began knocking. “Vinyl?!” She knocked again but a bit louder this time. “Vinyl Scratch, open the door!” She knocked and knocked and knocked with no success. “You promised me you wouldn’t do this!” She had heard no response but the rhythmic pounding on the other side of the door. She did a couple of more knocks, then suddenly the music had stopped and the door had opened. “For buck sake... Do you have to do this every morning?” She asked. “Of course! A fresh morning bass is healthy.” Vinyl replied, with her mane a mess and her room the same. Octavia looked at Vinyl sporting a “not very amused” expression. “Well, could you please wait until we finish rehearsing downstairs?” Octavia said as she started to head back downstairs. “Oh, your ensemble is here? They’ll love my mu- “Octavia turned towards Vinyl and gave her a cold stare. “I mean... they’ll love me staying in my room with the volume down.” She put on her glasses and smiled nervously. “Thank you.” Tavi said before she trotted downstairs. Vinyl closed her door and turned her volume to an appropriate level. “Sorry for that interruption ladies. Shall we start again?” They practiced for the next hour or so while Vinyl was busy in her room listening to music. They had no interruptions the rest of their rehearsal. “I think were done for today. I feel we’re more than ready.” The others started putting away their instruments and packing up while agreeing. They left one by one, all except for one earth pony named Vali Strings. “Octavia?..” the pony said strongly. “Oh, Do you need something Vali?” Tavi questioned. “I was wonder who was playing that music.. Was that your roommate? You two seem like the complete opposite.” Octavia packed up her cello slowly. “Yes, my roommate is a bassist. And perhaps we’re not so different, she and I. Shun her be damned. It’s the music that drives us. The harmonies that bind us. The friendship that found us..”
