The pain filled cries of a mother filled the room, King Anai had to hold her hoof in his large dragon paws tightly, the pain getting to his lover. Today was the day, Celestia, the raiser of the sun was giving birth to her first child. All of canterlot was waiting to see their new prince. Sure they had princess's and kings, but they have yet to have a prince, making this day more special for all. Servents, kings. Nobles and common ponies all were intent on seeing the new prince and welcoming him to the world.

The nurses and the princess had been working for hours to bring this new life to the world, and now, after much pain and wait. The wailing of a newborn foal where heard throughout the room, the mother finally relaxing, breathing hard and deeply. "Easy, easy my love..." her lover comforted her, keeping a steady hold on her hoof. Looking up at the nurse holding his new son, he let a smile come to his face. "Let me see, let me see my son."

The nurses cleaned him and wrapped him in a soft, white blanket, made by his mother, her cutie mark embroitered in the middle. He was speechless. Before him was his son, the heir to his throne and kingdom. He took the boy in his arms and held hisnhead as he now sleeps, exuasted from wailing. Tears brimmed the kings eyes, great joy now his, right in his very arms. The boy was no bigger then his fathers hand, but he would grow into a magnificent stallion.

His coat a dark grey, like that of a storm cloud. His mane, what you could see it of, was a inky black. He had a horn, and his father could feel his wings shiftinf in the blanket. He was a proud father, joy filled and content. He turned to his wife and smiled at her, his tears now sliding down his dark blue scales. "Hes beautiful my love..."

She now sat up, her back against the pillows. "Let me see... let me hold him, my boy..." she was tired, exuasted even, but she mustered enough strength to hold the child in her arms. She moved the blanket so she could see his face, wanting to see the miracle she brought into the world. Her soft eyes watered at the sight, threatening to stain her white cheeks with joyous tears. "Sombra..." her lover stood by her and  nuzzled her neck. "Sombra Universa."

Over the next few hours, everything was being preped for the boy to be presented to all of canterlot. His father, the captian of the guards, made sure no one got in without being checked and cleared. The boys mother sat on her throne, the child lay in his crib, sleeping soundly by his mothers side. She watched him sleep for a moment, a smile gracing her lips. "You will become a king someday, but for now, you are my handsome baby."

Sombra shifts a little at his mothers voice, but remains asleep, hugging his blanket as he sleeps. His wings fluttering a little under the covers as he dreams. She looks out to the doors and spreads her wings. "Let the public in, and remember. All are welcome here this night."

Over the next few years, the child grew and grew, turning into a handsome colt. By his tenth birthday, he was strong, tall and very strapping. He put other colts to shame with his charm and regal voice. He never lied, never stayed too far from his parents and never fooled around with girls. He was a good boy.

However, on the year of his fifteenth birthday, all that changed.
