The treasure I’ve been searching for
Dedicated to my own Dashie. Who’ve I’ve yet to find.
When I walked out of my cottage that morning I had no idea that by the time the day had ended that I’d have my feelings reciprocated, that she loved me as much as I loved her. I mean how could I have known; she was never the type to keep her thoughts to herself when it came to how she felt. Even when we were foals back in summer flight camp. She stuck up for what she believed in and for me.
I walked into Ponyville to do my monthly routine of shopping for all of my animal friends, Especially Angel. He had gotten better at being a picky eater ever since that fiasco with Iron Will, but he still wouldn’t eat the pellet food that I fed the other animals in my care. So I made an exception for him, after all he was my pet. My cutesy woosty snuggle Angle Bunny, and he was always there for me. When the cutie mark crusaders had become Gabby Gums, and printed that I had tail extensions. He knew that they had hurt my feelings and he wasn’t going to let them come near me without an apology, so he slammed the door in their faces when they had come to explain themselves, and took care of me as I cried.
The others said hi as I passed by. Rarity was headed to Canterlot to buy silk for her dresses, Twilight and Spike were on their normal trip to pick up more quills and ink, That pony went through so many quills that I’d bet that her business alone could keep the Pens and stationary store open. Applejack had her normal stand open and gave me a couple of apples to eat to keep my strength up while I did my monthly chores, and Pinkie was bouncing around the town doing her normal things, and told me that she’d throw a party soon and that I was invited. I laughed with her at how many parties she could throw, and headed on my way with a smile on my face.
Rainbow was resting on a cloud as usual when I found her. Listening to her MP3 player that she had recently gotten for her birthday from Princess Luna. However she must have sensed that someone was watching her because the moment I arrived she turned around and waved at me.
“Hey Flutters, What’s happening?’ Asked Rainbow flying down from the cloud, Turning off the music player, and taking out her headphones so she could hear me.
“Not much.” I replied pawing at the ground a little bit, like I always did when I was nervous. “I was just wondering, I mean if it’s not too much trouble, if you would help me carry the supplies I need for my animal friends back to my cottage when I’m done shopping today?” I asked trying not to stutter too much.
“Of course I’ll help you Flutters; you seriously need to pick up your confidence. I though a couple weeks back might have raised your self-esteem a little. We’re friends you don’t need to be nervous to ask for our help.” Explained Rainbow Dash rubbing my wings a little to help me calm down.
“It did a little; I mean it’s just that I don’t want to be a bother to you or the others.” I explained as we started to walk back towards Ponyville.
The events Rainbow was talking about were the events of the Tornado day. Where I helped them get enough wing power to allow the tornado to funnel the water up to Cloudsdale to make the rain clouds for the rainy season, it was then that I conquered my fear of flying in front of others, and some of the bullying I received in summer flight camp.
“You need to learn that you’re never a bother to us, Fluttershy. We’ll always be here to help you. I mean after all what are friends for?” Said Rainbow nuzzling me a little; since if she were to hug me it would cause us both to trip.
The rest of the trip back into Ponyville was quiet as Rainbow listened to her music softly enough that if I were to speak she could hear me, but I could just make out most of the music she was listening to. It was mostly soft rock love songs, by human singers like Celine Dion, and LeAnn Rhimes. I wondered how Rainbow had gotten music from the far off humans, but remembered the MP3 player was a gift from Princess Luna, and that Celestia and Luna often headed off to the human’s lands to make sure the treaty between us was kept.
“So, you still haven’t found a stallion that will be your boyfriend since Soarin huh?” I asked Rainbow trying to be as sensitive as possible. I mean I usually don’t have the courage to ask such questions, but the melancholy look on Rainbow’s face was enough to bring the question to my lips.
“No, I still can’t believe he would dump me like that.” Cried Rainbow a little bit
A couple of months back Spitfire and Soarin had had a massive fight, and Spitfire told Soarin that she never wanted to see him again, and kicked him out of the Wonderbolts, and that’s when Rainbow found him passed out in an alleyway in Cloudsdale. He had nearly drunk himself to death; He would have had Rainbow not found him and nursed him back to health. When he was well enough they started dating, but as soon as Spitfire came to her scenes on how much she loved Soarin, He dropped Rainbow like a hot potato, and it was only Me and the others that kept Rainbow from trying to kill herself in the same fashion, and a few other ways that I’d prefer not to have to remember.
“Fluttershy, do you think the others would hate me if I told them I was bi, and was considering only dating mares from now on? I mean Soarin hurt me so badly I don’t think I could ever love a stallion again; I mean I won’t claim to be a lesbian because you can’t choose your sexual orientation, but like I said stallions aren’t looking so good to me anymore.” Asked Rainbow blushing a little having revealing her biggest secret for the first time.
She’s bisexual; this means I might have a chance with her, but such a brave pony, what chance could I ever have with her. I though as we continued past Sweet Apple Acres; Rainbow hiccupped a little as she nervously waited for my answer.
“Of course not, Dashie.” I said rubbing her on the back as she continued to cry a little. “As you said your sexual orientation isn’t a choice; it’s how you feel, and I think you’re more than within reason to not want to date stallions anymore after how Soarin stomped on your heart. The other’s will understand. Remember we were all there for you when he left, we’ll all be there after you tell them you’re bi.” I said continuing to rub her back as i tried to calm her down.
“Thanks Flutters, You’ve always been there for me in your own way, and I appreciate it.” Sniffed Rainbow wiping the tears from her eyes and smiling at me.
“Of course Rainbow. You’ve been there for me as well; it’s only fair that I’d be there for you too.” I explained smiling as well.
“You know Flutters; I have a confession to make. I’ve had my eye on a mare for a long time now.” Admitted Rainbow a light blush dusting her face.
“Oh really that’s great Rainbow! Who’s the lucky Mare?” I asked feeling like my heart had been crushed. there’s no way it’s going to be me, but of course it wouldn’t. I mean I’m not Rainbow’s type. I could never do half the things Rainbow would want me to do; I’m just not brave enough. I thought as I began to cry. Rainbow however didn’t notice as she answered my question.
“It’s someone who’s known me for a very long time, someone who’s been there for me through thick and thin; even though I know she was scared half to death. She’s one of my closest friends, and even since the first moment I seen her, in the line at summer flight camp I knew I loved her. She’s my complete opposite, but that’s what makes her interesting, and I hope she’ll return my feelings for me.” Explained Rainbow smiling at me with a look like a pony who has just found an oasis in the most driest desert imaginable.
“Do you mean it’s” I cried before Rainbow cut me off placing her lips on mine in a passionate kiss.

I opened the door and Rainbow carried the supplies into my cottage, once she put the boxes into the pantry and closed the door she came up to me and kissed me again.
“I must have climbed the Rainbow.” I said sobbing happily, hugging her
“Because you’re the treasure I’ve been searching for.” Rainbow finished for me as she led me upstairs to my bedroom to talk about what we were going to do for our first date that night.
