Chapter 23: A Bond That Cannot be Undone

Discordia reveled in delight as she watched chaos ensue after killing the future Twilight Sparkle.
Rainbow Dash welled up with anger and without assessing the odds, took to the air and readied an attack.

“Wait, Rainbow Dash!” Celestia attempted to stop her.

But the head strong pegasus ignored the princess's plea, tears flowing from her rose colored eyes as she filled with righteous anger. Dash flew as high as the dimensions of the room would allow and dove as fast as she could. Almost instantaneously she broke into a sonic rainboom. The wake of the blast shattered every window in the throne room, as the rest of the group struggled not to be blown back themselves. “This is for Twilight!” Rainbow Dash screamed as she bolted at the villainous alicorn.
At the moment of impact, it was as if a bomb was set off in the middle of the room. Most of the ponies were flung into the wall about 30 feet behind. Discord and the princesses were able to hold their ground but even they had slid back a little trying to shield themselves from the force of the blast. Everypony coughed and gagged, waving their hooves in an attempt to clear the air.

Applejack squinted trying to gaze into the cloud. A small flicker of purple light lit up in the wall of multicolored smoke as something came flying out like a cannon ball. “Incoming!” The orange mare yelled, ducking for cover as their rainbow haired friend was hurled towards them, slamming with a marble pillar.

Rainbow Dash struggled to breathe. Hitting that pillar had knocked the wind out of her, but she still tried to pull herself back on her hooves to fight. She was only able to stand momentarily before collapsing from exhaustion. Her friends rushed to her aid as the room echoed with Discordia’s laughter.

“Hahahaha! What a feeble attempt. You’ll have to try harder than that if you ever hope to defeat me.” She gloated, as she cleared the cloud with a single flap of her mighty wings. “So who’s next?”

“We are!” Celestia called out as she and Luna stepped forward.

They looked back to Discord who was still sitting there with his arms crossed. Noticing everypony’s stares, he pointed to himself. “Oh, did ‘we’ include me?” He asked before teleporting himself over the princesses. “You got to tell me these things Celestia. I’m not a mind reader.”
He said, joining in formation above them.

“Now that’s more like it.” Discordia smiled. The three of them focused their attacks into a single focal point. Discordia pulled a wing forward to protect herself from the bombardment of magical energies. The purple alicorn gritted her teeth as she held back the attack, tensing up in anger as with each moment she fought against their combined might. “ENOUGH!” She flung her wing open, redirecting the blast back at the trio.

Luna and Discord managed to avoid getting hit, but Celestia wasn’t so lucky. The combined force of their efforts grazed her, shattering the bones her back leg. The princess fell to the ground, unable to stand as the other ponies all rushed to the princess’s aid.

“Princess Celestia!” Twilight hurried to her side. “Are you all right?”

“My leg...” Celestia bit her lip to manage the pain. “I think it’s broken.”

“Step back girls. I need to have a look at it.” Whooves stepped in and began scanning the injury with his sonic screwdriver and checking the read out. “Oh dear.”

“Is it bad?” Applejack asked

“I’m afraid so, it looks like we’re dealing with multiple fractures. In this condition, she won’t be able to stand, let alone fight.”

Discordia smiled. Her horn was consumed in darkness, the edges glowing ever so slightly with a dark purple aura, as she shifted attention to her next victim. “My turn.” The first blast was fired at Luna. The princess jumped to avoid the attack spreading open her wings should she need to take flight for evasive maneuvers, but the explosive force of the magic striking the ground below caught her off guard, launching the Princess of the Night into the air.

Discord flew up to catch the disoriented alicorn before she hit the ground.

Not missing the opportunity to attack her distracted foe, Discordia flew forward at break neck speed. Without a moment’s notice, she plunged her horn deep into the draconequus’s abdomen.

Discord let out a howl of pain as he dropped the princess and grabbed his attacker by the horn. On the ground, the girls huddled to help Luna.

“I’m sorry, does that hurt?” She mocked, licking her lips as the blood ran down her horn and dripped over her muzzle. “Let me help you with that.” Discordia then jerked her head in a downward motion, flinging the wounded draconequus into Princess Luna, who was just getting back on her feet, and the rest of the ponies. She landed nearby and walked over to her predecessor. Luna and the others tried to block her path but were effortlessly thrown across the room by a single swipe from her powerful wings.
“Why do you help these ponies, ‘father’? Would you not have more fun by my side, spreading chaos throughout the land? Join me. Help me destroy them, and I will allow you to live.”

Discord propped himself up on his paw, holding his wound with the other arm. His breath was erratic, as he stared defiantly into Discordia’s white eyes. “What you’re spreading…isn’t chaos. All you spread is pain and death.” He winced as his wound shot sensations of agony. “You are nothing like me.”

“But with death comes chaos. The pain of loss breeds panic and despair. What is holding you back? Could it be…her?” Discordia glanced over to Celestia.

“You leave her out of this!” The draconequus commanded through gritted teeth. “Your fight with me is not done yet.”

“Oh I think it is.” Discordia smiled sadistically, placing a hoof over Discord’s claw and pushed down to irritate his injury.

“Nghraaah!” He cried out trying to fight the pain.

“Let’s see how much life means to you without her? Hmm?” Discordia’s horn was once again enveloped in darkness as she turned her head to Celestia. “Bye bye” Discordia fired a massive beam of energy at the incapacitated princess. Celestia could only watch as her doom approached. She turned her head away and closed her eyes, awaiting the end.

“Nooo!” Ignoring the pain, Discord jumped to his feet and ran to save her.

Celestia opened her eyes to see the draconequus standing before her, shielding her from the attack with his back. Discord struggled as the dark alicorn gave it everything she had, but he stood firm looking down at the princess with determination.

“Discord! No…” The pink maned princess looked up at him in surprise.

“I’m sorry, Celestia. It looks like we’ll have to spread chaos together another time.” He smiled weakly at her, trying to downplay the situation. “I release you from our agreement.” He reached forward with his paw, placing it under the princess’s jaw and lifted her head to match is gaze. Celestia’s mane returned to its natural color, but she didn’t notice. Her eyes were locked on him as she wept uncontrollably.
From behind, Discord could feel his body beginning to solidify and turn once again into stone but didn’t try to move. He continued to take it all until the attack ended. His body hardened as the transformation crept forward. With the last of the last of his power, he smiled down at her as the petrification began to move up his neck. “Do not cry for me, Celestia. Chaos comes and goes. It is the nature of chaos to do so. But know this, throughout all time, my love will be with you always. Good bye, my dear.” A single tear rolled down his cheek, turning to stone as the magic fully consumed him.

Tears continued to stream from Celestia as she stared into his lifeless eyes and whispered, “Love you too.”

The tender moment was ended suddenly as the statue of Discord exploded, sending chunks of rock in all directions.

Celestia’s eyes widened in disbelief. “NO!”

Discordia stood across from her smiling viciously, smoke rising from her horn as it cooled down. “Oh, I’m sorry. Did I break him? I guess they just don’t build them like they used to.” She redirected her attention to the others. “I’ll let the princess soak in misery a bit longer before I kill her. So who wants to be my next playmate?”
