Ponies who knew Rumble on a personal level knew that humility and respect were not virtues he actively practiced. They knew underneath the thin veneer of witticism and charm he exuded, the pony known as Rumble was a rude, crass, and all around recalcitrance individual with a pension for getting drunk and starting fights. So after a typical night on the town when Rumble and his wing man Shady Daze are thrown out of yet another bar due to Rumble's usual cantankerous attitude, Shady gives his best friend an ultimatum: “either get it together or you can forget about being friends.”
