Chapter One: Awakening
Chapter One: Awakening

I own nothing except my OC.
The wind was cold, cold and stale as it blew through the abandoned streets. Newspapers rode the gusts, whipping across the roads and making a crinkling sound. Empty water bottles rolled here and there, trees slightly swaying from the light gusts as dead leaves fell and formed small piles on the sidewalks.
The dawn was just barely approaching, the sun breaking light just above the dock area of the city, its rays of sunshine being cast into the streets, and illuminating the darkness that filled them.
Vehicles of varying models sat on the road, some were overturned and others burnt out from fires started long ago. Their burnt shells a grim reminder of what they once were, before.
Lying on the hard cold ground behind a Mail truck on its side, was a creature... a pony to be exact, colored Cyan with a rainbow colored mane and tail, on her flank was a small mark showing a small cloud with a thunderbolt colored like a rainbow shooting out of it. Her small body was covered in bruises and scratches, her wings were dirty as well as her mane, both covered in specks of dirt and grass. This pony's name, was Rainbow Dash.
Suddenly, her eyelids twitched under the sun's rays, "Oh.. my head... what happened?" Rainbow Dash wondered, her eyes opening to reveal beautiful violet colored eyes filled with confusion, and hurt.
The blue Mare blinked several times to rid her vision of the blurriness before struggling to stand, she righted herself, albeit slowly as she put one fore hoof down, then the other as she fought against the aches and pains in her joints and limbs. After some doing she managed to stand, her legs shaking and her stomach twisting in knots. her wings drooped to her sides and her head hung low, The pony's eyelids growing heavy as she wondered what happened to her.
She felt so tired, like she went ten rounds with a wolf. She shook her head slightly as she took a peek at her surroundings, "Whoa..." she breathed.
In front of her were massive structures reaching all the way into the sky almost, the way it was built reminded her of Manehattan. It was almost similar to it in ways. The buildings all stretched to the sky cutting into the clouds, the roads were different however. a dark gray with yellow lines painted down the middle, cracks and splits from age pock marked it in places.
The Pegasus Pony was then made aware of her injures, she glanced at her body and saw the bruises and cuts that covered almost her entire being. Her eyes went wide and she shook visibly as everything from before she woke up was a complete blur, "Why...why can I remember anything?" she asked herself, she remembered her name, who she was, everything... all except, what had happened to her, why was it all a blur?
She shook her head hard, furrowing her brow and closing her eyes trying to remember, but nothing came to mind. "Damn it!" she cursed silently due to her headache, she rubbed her head with a hoof with a sigh, she felt so tired.
The Pegasus looked around once more before deciding to explore the area, her eyes scanning the empty streets and large metallic crates that sat here and there. She then began moving forward, her curiosity of this place growing.
Rainbow's hooves made slight clopping sounds against the pavement as she navigated her way around trash that littered the sidewalk, and an odd red substance that covered the walls of buildings an doorways, feelings of dread slowly started to knot up up in her stomach. Where was everyone?
Suddenly, a crack of what sounded like thunder filled the air around. The way the city was built caused the sound to bounce and reverberate and increase its volume, sounding like a thundestorm. The Cyan colored pony whipped her head around, her eyes wide as she tried to see where it came from but to no avail.
The three more sounded out, each one louder then the last. deciding not to stick around, she started to run, out of fear if not anything else. She was a brave pony, but right now she was in a massive city, with no one else around and a feeling of unease had settled in the pit of her stomach, that was more then enough to give her the idea to run for her life.
More cracks of thunder sounded, it sounded close to her. Was she getting close? then a thought crossed her mind, she could just fly, she forgot she could. She face hoofed as she shook her wings free of the dirt before taking flight, she soared straight up a couple of stories until she was a good twenty feet above the ground. Now that she was up higher she could make out more of the city, it went on for miles in every direction, heck it was bigger them Manehatten almost!
"Whoa... this city... is huge!" The pony exclaimed, her eyes wide from how vast the city was. If she wasn't careful, she may just get lost within the concrete maze. Then suddenly her eyes caught something, there was someone here after all! "Hey!" she called out, she ducked down and started flying until she landed back onto the ground with a clop of her hooves.
She started down the path the figure went until she saw it, whatever it was it was tall, at least five feet and bi pedal. It donned a plaid shirt and blue jeans, on its feet it was missing one shoe and its hair was disheveled. a light moan came from it as Rainbow asked, "Um, excuse me mister? I was wondering could y-" she stopped when the creature turned around, reveling a horrid sight.
Its 'face' was the most scariest sight she's ever seen. Its eyes and its skin gray, its vanes that ran through its body was blackened and its clothes shredded, showing a torn up chest covered in what looked like bite marks and scratches, a foul smell came from it that made the Pegasus's stomach twist and turn.
Rainbow's eyes were locked onto the creature's gray ones, her heart beating faster as she saw nothing behind those eyes, no life... there was something else... Its mouth opened, its teeth cracked and broken and turned into fangs as it growled, its arms raising as it lunged at her.
"What ar-AHHHHHHHHHH!!" Rainbow shrieked as she stumbled backwards, she landed on her back as the creature came at her, intent on spilling her blood. She whimpered as as she kicked at it with her back legs, smacking it in the face and breaking its teeth further. She crawled back before getting back onto her hooves and trying to run away, only to have the thing grab the Pegasus's leg.
She flapped her wings hard, almost taking flight if the thing wasn't gripped onto her back leg, she turned her body around and kicked at it with her free hoof, dislocating its jaw making it hand uselessly as it still tired to take a bite of of her flank. "GET OFFA ME!" She screamed, her eyes wide as she struggled against it.
No matter how hard she fought the creature was too heavy for her, it grabbed her other leg and managed to drag her back down until it landed on her, its mouth making a sickening cracking sound as it prepared to take a chunk out of the Flying Pony.
If its head hadn't suddenly popped opened like a cherry, the top half of its head exploded as thunder echoed around her and making her ear drums feel like they were about to explode form the sudden loud boom. Blackish crimson rained on her, covering her beautiful rainbow colored mane and blue body in sticky blood, droplets landed on her face as she shook. She yelped as she crawled away from the now deceased body, she stood up quickly as she gasped at the blood that covered both her, and the ground. The foul smell of decay filled the air and she gagged, she tried to hold back the bile but this was too much for her to handle.
Her stomach churned and her mouth started to water before she threw up, spewing up what she had for lunch right onto the road. Her throat burned afterwards and her entire being felt sick, "Oh god." she muttered as she took a few steps back, her heart aching from what just happened.
As she turned around she saw another one! she backed away from it, her wings spread out and read to take flight, but something stopped her. This... thing, she saw its eyes, they had color. They were a dark Hazel color a opposed to being gray, The thing wore a black t-shirt with faded letters on it and torn jeans and white hoes stained with blood and mud, his hair was long and curly and hidden underneath a beanie hat. His Hazel eyes wide and his hands trembling as they held onto what looked like a long stick, "N-no... way." He spoke.
Rainbow had no idea how to react to this thing, she was still shaking from earlier as she prepared to take flight and escape.
The creature noticed this, "Wait! don't go!" he called out, one of his hands held out as if he was about to grab her.
"Don't get near me!" The Pegasus told him, flapping her wings and hovering a few feet away from him and ready to jet off should she have to.
"J-just wait," the thing started, "How... how are you here?" he asked.
To Rainbow, that was a good question, "I...I don't know..." she replied sorrowfully, looking around as she heard moaning noises, her gut told her that was a bad thing...
The thing in front of her must have heard it to, for he raised the stick he held and aimed it like it was a weapon. But now that Rainbow Dash got a good look at it, it almost looked like one of the Equestrian royal military's firearms, but designed somewhat differently. He held it and aimed down its sights down an alleyway, Rainbow looked and saw more of the things stumbling out of doorways and crawling out from small windows on the grounds near buildings.
"Oh no." She breathed, she as about to fly when the thing fired off his firearm. That was the thunder she heard earlier, he was doing that.
The Rifle bucked into his shoulder, sending a piece of hot lead flying towards the body of one of the creatures Rainbow almost fell to. The piece of lead embedded itself into the shoulder of one of them and caused it to whip back, but it kept coming. "Damn!" the thing cursed, pulling back the bolt of his rifle and loading another bullet into the chamber, he was about to fire but gave up when he saw more coming from down the road, "Quick! follow me!" he yelled grabbing her hoof and leading her away, the rifle clutched in his hands as they were slowly surrounded. "I know a safe place!"
Rainbow would have protested but something in her gut told her to trust this thing, he didn't attack her, and he appears to be helping her. She nodded and followed him, soaring above him as he lead her down the road, away from a possible horrific death. But after they get to safety, she was going to get answers...
Chapter Three: Getting to Know Each Other
Chapter Three: Getting to Know Each Other

I own nothing but my OC, the location, the plot and story and certain elements.
The two survivors Rainbow Dash and Jake walked long the road back to where they met, Rainbow leading the way. Their mission, find some clues that could possibly tell them, what is going on.
The roads were clear of undead, but that didn't mean the two could relax. Jake held his gun with a nervous grip, as he counted the bullets he had left and knew he had to get more, or he and Rainbow were screwed.
The Cyan Pegasus walked along the road, her hooves making a light clacking sound against the pavement as she lead Jake to where she woke up.
"So," Jake spoke after several minutes of silence, "What is it like?" he asked, eyeing Rainbow Dash in front of him as they walked.
She looked back at him, her bright violet eyes gleaming with curiosity, "What?"
"Requestira, what is it like there?" Jake asked, unknowingly saying the name wrong, "I'm curious about the place you came from."
Rainbow laughed quietly to herself, "Well first of all its 'Equestira' not Requestira and secondly, its a totally awesome place!" she exclaimed, jumping up into the air before doing a loop.
"Well, how awesome," Jake asked, "what goes on there? what do ya'll do for fun?"
The Cyan Pony suddenly flew into Jake's face, her violet eyes glaring into his Hazel ones, "Why do you wanna know huh, are you a Spy!?" she questioned the human before her.
Jake sweatdropped, "Uh, last time I checked I wasn't a spy." stepping back a few inches from her face, why would she ask him that?
The Pegasus narrowed her eyes at him, wondering if he was telling the truth or not. Fluttering her wings she landed with a clack of her hooves and kept moving forward, followed by the now confused human.
The path they took was long, very long. Jake decided to pass the time taking in the sights of the surrounding buildings, and wondering what their next plan of action should be. So far, they haven't learned of anything significant about one another, except Rainbow can fly, but that was obvious form her wings. He hoped there would be something to help them at Rainbow's awakening site.
"Why did this happen to us, and more importantly why is she here," The human pondered, "this doesn't make any sense to me."
After some walking the pair made it to the Mail truck where the Cyan pony first awoke in this strange world, the truck was large, and colored a dark brown and lay on its side. The windshield was broken and blood covered the driver's seat and the ground in front of the window. The back doors were opened and mail such as packages and letters littered the road around it.
"This is it." Rainbow looked around, remembering the truck's dark color and the blood on the walls, she looked to Jake as he looked around the area, "so."
"So..." Jake peered at the truck, something didn't seem right. While it was on its side the placement of the blood and the contents of the back are messed up, the blood is pooled on the concrete a few feet away from the window and the packages as well are in the wrong place, "hmm... something is off here," Jake chided, looking at the side of the truck with a keen eye.
"What do you mean?" Rainbow questioned, walking up next to him and tiling her head.
Jake put his rifle on the ground for a second before running up to the truck's side and running up it, he quickly latched his hands onto the top and shimmed up until he was now standing on the top. Jake was staring at something as Rainbow gawked.
"Whoa," the Pegasus flapped her wings and hovered up until she was on top as well, she saw what he was staring at and her eyes widened.
The side of the truck was burned to a crisp, the metal singed from an intense flame and warped and dented in places. Protruding from the metal was what caught both of their, sticking out of the truck was the hilt of a sword.
"What the heck?" Jake walked over to minding his step as he touched it, and as he did a jolt of electricity shot through his arm with such force it rocked his body back and caused him to fall, "AAAAAHHHHH!" he yelled, hitting the side of the truck with a thud.
Rainbow couldn't help it, "Bwahahahahahaahha!" she laughed, falling onto her side laughing away at Jake's misfortune. her sides felt like they were about to split and tears fell from her eye.
Jake convulsed for a few seconds before managing to sit up right, "The hell man!" Jake yelled, holding his aching hand that started to twitch, pins and needles.
The Cyan Pony couldn't stop laughing as the human shot a glare her way, "hehehee, that was great."
"Well how about you try grabbing it!" he told her gesturing to the sword as he backed away, his hand still hurt and he wasn't keen on grabbing the sword again less he get shocked once more.
Rainbow Huffed as she trotted over to the golden blade, getting a good look at it the blade she noticed, albiet just barely several glowing runes etched into the handle and the blade itself, the handle was golden and the blade a bright silver... runes of Equestira! "I know those runes." she murmured, her eyes widened as she recognized the blade now... it was her blade!
"Well?" Jake asked, his arms crossed as he awaited for her to grab the blade.
Without thinking Rainbow reached out and touched the handle, her ears picked up a faint humming noise as she to the great surprise of Jake, pulled the sword out of the vehicle's side and held it... somehow.
"...How... are you... holding that?" he asked, seemingly befuddled at how a pony could be holding a sword. Now that it was pulled out It was massive! the blade itself must have been at least five feet long, "it's huge!" Rainbow giggled and Jake wondered why but then he got the gist, "oh shut up."
"Hehehehee, you said it, not me~" she sung, looking at the blade she somehow could hold in her hooves despite not having fingers.
Jake shook his head, so much has happened in the past three days that was just outrageously weird, and now he has for a partner, a talking Pegasus that can somehow hold a gigantic sword that shocked the crap out of him..."Okay, I guess that sword counts as the first clue..."
"Cool!" she said before looking his way, "does that mean we're one step closer to getting out of here?"
Jake shrugged, "possibly, I mean you have a way to protect yourself now, assuming you know how to use that thing that is."
"I do know how to use it," she frowned as the sword started to glow, "whoa!"
Jake backed away as he saw the glow, it was bright and only lasted for a few seconds before disappearing only now the sword was shortened to about two feet. and on her flank a sheath for the weapon made of simple leather appeared.
"Hey, neat!" She said before depositing the blade in the sheath with a smirk. she flapped her wings and glided off the vehicle followed by the human who picked up his rifle, "so... now what?"
Jake looked to the north, and started that way, "let's head that way, I think there may be a store or something where we can get some supplies, and maybe some ammo for my gun. Man I'm hungry."
Dash nodded and the two set out north, and along the way she figured why not learn a little more about her human companion, "So Jake."
"Yeah?"
"Where did you learn how to shoot your gun?" she asked, eyeing the firearm in question.
Jake was keeping an eye on the storefronts and apartments that littered the area as he thought up a good answer, "well, back where I'm from we're always doing stupid things like firing off guns or blowing up stuff in the woods for shits and giggles, I learned how to shoot from my granddad, he took me out back one day with a hunting rifle and we shot some old tin cans off the fences." He told her, remembering the good old days when he would go out back and shoot random junk he set up, "good times... good times. How about you? what do you do for fun in your town or... whatever."
"Well," she started, "when I'm not clearing the sky of clouds I'm either pranking Applejack by replacing the apples on the trees with red balloons of Paint with Pinkie or I'm hanging out with Twi and trying to understand what the heck she's talking about whole she does her magic stuff."
"Magic?" Jake asked skeptically, "you have Magic in your world?"
"Yeah, why?"
"We don't have Magic in my world," he said, a pang of disappointment in his voice, "its nothing more then something you see on TV or in video games and books, it doesn't exist."
Rainbow Dash looked stunned by that, her face confused, "You don't have magic in your world?"
"No, its... depressing really." Jake told her, shouldering his rifle, "I've always been intrigued by it, but its not real. Just something in games, movies and so on, like I said." He sighed as a gust of wind blew towards them, the smell of death was strong. he threw his hands over his nose in disgust, "oh god that is bad!" he coughed, he never smelled anything that bad before.
Looking ahead Rainbow saw smoke rising up into the sky from one of the intersections, "I see smoke." she said, "could be someone in trouble!" the pony coughed as well, biting back the bile as her human companion stood behind her.
Jake coughed once again and fought back the urge to vomit, "Maybe, but then again," another cough, "I think we should take a detour or something." the human suggested as he took a turn down an alleyway, followed closely by Rainbow.
The alleyway they ventured down was like most of the alleys, dark and filled with trash, and the occasional dead body. So far most of the bodies Rainbow saw were clean, as in their flesh was eaten away completely, with only bits of gristle and dried blood left over. It was sickening to look at, and she would have thrown up again, if her stomach wasn't currently devoid of food. That was another thing, she was starving. She hoped they would get some food soon.
Eventually they made their way around the smoke Rainbow spotted, and found a nice place to scout out the area. Jake climbed up onto a dumpster situated near a fence, and shouldering his rifle he peered over. HIs eyes widened when he saw what was down there, "holy shit... you're gunna want to see this."
With eyebrows raised Dash flapped her wings and flew up to get a better look, once she was hovering above her jaw dropped.
