Chapter 2 - The First Encounter
Written by BubbleBuster
By now Twilight, her five pony friends, Spike and Owlowiscious had arrived at their destination; a large, open field with flowers all around to greet them.
"Fluttershy, I gotta admit, this place is as awesome as you said!" Rainbow Dash hovered above the others, beaming from ear to ear.
Fluttershy managed a small, shy, yet excited smile. "Yes, all the tiny critters come here. And since it's the middle of summer, they're all around us, even when you can't see them. This is my second home, Rainbow Dash."
"Ah wouldn't mind comin' here more often, Flutters. Ah'm darn happy yah mentioned this place."
Fluttershy stopped dead in her tracks, and since she was in the lead, so did the others.
"Fluttershy? What is it?" asked the baby dragon, who was of course Spike.
"Look," replied Fluttershy. "We almost trod on that squirrel!" She pointed at it with her hoof to emphasize.
"Fluttershy, 'that squirrel' was just making its way over there. I'm sure we wouldn't have trod on it, even if we tried." Rainbow Dash motioned to it with a hoof with a look of annoyance clearly on her face, silently wanting to forget about it.
Charlie Hazel yawned like he had never yawned before, stretching out his stiffened arms before setting them back down on the... grass? It was daytime, so had he seriously fell unconscious in that field for the whole night? Questions were whizzing through the man's head at that precise moment.
Why the hell did I drink that thing?
He did an internal facepalm. As Charlie stood up all he could see was the sky, the grass, and flowers everywhere. He was also puzzled to why there was some random mountains in the distance, waiting to greet him for some unknown reason.
"Why... there's no flowers, or mountains, or anything back at... what the heck? What did that drink have in it?"
He began to further look at his surroundings. There was no hedge for miles; and he could have sworn the grass looked way too overgrown for his liking. He winced.
"...seriously?..." he muttered. "I guess my best chance is to go to those mountains, that'll give me a better view of the place."
Charlie began trudging towards the mountains. They were miles away; he was not liking the look of the new world he had been thrust into. Then he noticed something else: it was summer.
"N-no, I'm dreaming. Keep it together!"
He walked without a word, his pace not quickening nor slowing down. He just walked in complete silence, dumbfounded. He was convinced there was something funky in that bottle; something that had messed him up. Maybe he was hallucinating?
The Mane 6, their pets and a baby dragon had all helped to set up the picnic. Pinkie Pie couldn't wait to get a taste of the treats, while Applejack was eager to dig in. Rarity came trotting towards the two. "Don't get too eager, darlings. Other ponies need to eat too."
Pinkie Pie wasn't listening. She had dug into an apple, wolfing it down; it was almost as if she hadn't taken a breath since she began eating. She gasped in delight. "Applejack, this season's apples are better than the last! And I didn't think that was possible!"
"Aww, shucks." Applejack held a hoof to her stetson hat.
"Looks like Pinkie likes those," a certain rainbow-maned mare hovered over the three ponies. "Or is she just being extra-excited-Pinkie today?"
"I presume both, Rainbow," replied Rarity. "She claims they're better than last season's!"
"Last season's? But they were unbeatable!"
"Yep, Dashie! They're super-duper amazing! You have to try them right now!" the party pony shoved an apple into Rainbow Dash's mouth, catching her off-guard.
After spitting it out and eating part of it properly, Rainbow Dash exclaimed: "Wow, they are!"
"I gotta hoof it to you, Applejack!" Pinkie exclaimed, excitedly waving her legs in the air.
Princess Twilight came trotting in. "What's all the commotion about?" she asked, picking up an apple in her magical aura and floating it over to herself.
"These apples are better than LAST SEASON'S!" yelled the crazy pony. "You just eat one!"
Twilight took a bite out of it. "They sure are better than last season's, but don't get yourselves worked up. Hey, that reminds me, where's Fluttershy?"
Of course, Fluttershy was tending to the creatures that dotted the grassy field. She had a robin on one wing and a butterfly in her mane. The animal whisperer looked at the robin and told it to fly away to its nest. Of course the robin obeyed; it flew up and away into the blue sky.
Charlie was now at the bottom of one of the mountains. He hadn't thought of how he was gonna get up there, it's not like he could fly up or anything. He tried to look for an easy place to climb up, but to no avail. Charlie was so frustrated, he wanted to cry. But he was a grown man, so he wouldn't do that, even though he really wanted to. He decided to do that once he fell down.
"Guess I'll have to do this the hard way."
He began climbing the mountain, grumbling in annoyance. When he was a quarter of the way up, he grabbed onto a ledge-
CAW!
This was, of course, an eagle, but the noise was so sudden and foreign to Charlie's ears that it had caught him off-guard. His hand slipped and his other clung on for dear life as he regained his composure and kept on climbing. By the time he had looked down again, he was at the top, causing fear to course through his veins. He jumped up and sat on a rock at the summit of the mountain, glad he was up there.
Rainbow Dash smiled as she arose into the sky, ready to show off her tricks. "I have a new trick in store for you guys. It's called-" -She stopped for a build-up- "-The Buccaneer Blaze!"
"Never heard of that one," Twilight piped up, "What's it like?"
"Basically, it's kinda like a tornado, I guess. You fly around in circles, getting tighter by the moment; and then you fly down through it, causing the wind to go inside out and cause an explosion of white! Doesn't it sound awesome?"
"Yeah, but what 'appens to ya? Do ya just stay there? Or does somethin' 'appen to ya?"
"When I saw Soarin' perform it -It's his signature move- he was pushed off a few miles. But that won't be a problem! Now, watch this!"
Rainbow Dash did as she had explained, sending a band of pearly white dancing across the sky, her with it, towards the mountains, tumbling and... unconscious?
Wind whistled through Charlie's ears as he squinted, looking at the ring flying through the sky. "What the...?"
He said this for two reasons. One, because of what was just mentioned, and two, because there was some sort of equine tumbling down to the ground. Fast. It had blue fur, and its mane had a whole rainbow of colours embedded in every strand. Charlie knew a creature was in danger and rushed down the mountain. By the time he was there though, there could be heard a bang and a series of gasps from the equine creature. It had wings, and its mane was definitely rainbow-coloured.
Charlie was no merciless human. He rushed to her -It looked like a girl- side and examined her, blood dripping from her head and bruises all over her body. Charlie winced at the sight and picked her up in his hands, holding her tightly. Little did he know of the six figures rapidly approaching him and the equine until he heard the squeak of "W-what is that?".
Charlie was suddenly tackled by an orange form and a hoof laid on top of his chest. "What ya'll doin' to Rainbow?"
Did that thing just speak? He hadn't enough time to contemplate before he passed out in shock.
Author's Note
Started this, stopped for God knows how many months and finally picked it up again, which is the main reason why this chapter isn't very long. Sorry.
