Chapter IV: Really? A House?
The six of us had all been living with our employers until we could pool together enough bits to rent the house. It had taken us about six months, but was worth the time.
Twilight had taken me to a small blue building with a red roof that looked almost like a house itself. We were sitting in a small room, waiting for someone. Who it was, I had no idea.
Finally, a light red pegasus mare with a straight cut black and blue mane and a somewhat unkempt, but identically colored tail walked into the room. I noticed that she was wearing a pair of black glasses and a dark pink watch. Her cutie mark was a small house over top of a dollar sign. It was obvious that she was the pony we were waiting for.
"Hello, Ms. Sparkle. I`m sorry, but... that will have to wait outside."
"Actually, hes the one that were here to talk about. This is Arrick, and he`s looking to rent a house for him and his friends."
"Hello."
I held out my hand, which she hesitantly placed her hoof on top of and shook.
"My name is Ruby Lanes. You said your name was Arrick?"
"Yes. Nice to meet you, Ruby."
"Okay, so you say you want to rent a house for you and your friends. Might I ask how many of your friends will be living here?"
"Me and five others."
"Do any of you have jobs?"
"Me and four of us. The other one will be getting a job pretty soon."
"Alright. This seems legitimate. Was there a particular home you had in mind?"
"Actually, yes. Twilight?"
"If you don`t mind, Ruby, I can take you to the house."
"Of course I don`t."
The three of us walked back to the house, which I now noticed was quite exquisite. It was three stories and mostly white, with gold trim and a deep red roof. Ruby was obviously surprised that we were planning on living here.
"Arrick, if you don`t care, would you mind telling me what particular jobs you will be working?"
"Im going to be assisting Twilight in the library, one of us is working at Sweet Apple Acres, another is helping out a the Carousel Boutique, and the last is at Sugarcube Corner. Well probably be bringing in just enough for the rent, but its all okay. So, how muchll it be?"
"This house is 860 bits a month."
"Seems reasonable. Sounds like a lot less than where I`m from."
"You speak the truth. You actually ended up getting a bit of a reduction since youve befriended an Element of Harmony who also happens to be Princess Celestias personal student."
"So, when can we move in?"
"Whenever you like."
"Thank you so much, Miss Lanes. You too, Twilight."
"This isnt everything, you know. Ive got one more surprise, but you`ll have to wait until the others get back." Twilight told me, her voice dripping with anticipation.
"Cool. Hey, do you think I could borrow that chair in your basement?"
"Sure. Just a sec."
Twilight`s horn began to glow, and instead of the chair in question, a large sofa appeared in front of the house.
"Did you mess up the spell or something?"
"No. I didn`t need this anymore, so I thought you might appreciate it."
"Thanks! If you want, you can come in. I just need to take this inside."
"Why not? I don`t have anything to do for a while."
I stepped towards the sofa and raised my arms. The familiar bolts of blue lightning began arcing across them, as it floated into the air. I moved my left arm out to the side and pulled the door open with my Electrokinetic Grasp. I levitated the sofa in and set it down at the spot where it looked the best.
"Have a seat."
"Okay. Wow, this is a lot more comfortable than I remember it being..." She said, sinking a bit further into the seat.
Twilight and I were sitting next to each other on the couch relaxing, when I decided to make a very bold move by putting my arm across her shoulders. She seemed to not mind, even welcoming the gesture, leaning up against my arm. Our light contact slowly elevated, as she began resting more of her weight on my shoulder. She barely weighed anything, probably around twenty-four pounds, but her movement was very noticeable. I noticed that she hadnt said anything for a while, and looked over to see what was going on. What I saw warmed my heart. Twilight was laying comfortably against my side and had fallen asleep. She was snoring lightly, with a large smile on her face. I moved my arm a bit, and she simply wrapped her forelegs around it tightly. Seemed like she was a pretty heavy sleeper. I wasnt complaining, though. I slowly leaned a bit closer, and in a few moments, we had both fallen asleep on the couch.
