For centuries Khalida was everywhere and no where all at once. It was an otherworldly experience, which made a distinct amount of sense given her situation. To understand, though, you would have to go back one thousand years.
You see, one thousand years ago, the nights were longer than they had been since Khalida's ascent amongst the stars. Longer, and by far more dangerous.
Many ravenous beasts would come out during those nights and prey upon the weak and the non-predatory species.
For years these beasts reigned supreme, until a group arrived by means of a large ship, the likes of which had never been seen before during those times. Off the ships came a race very similar to the Diamond Dogs. The difference is that they were well learned, cultured and appeared by far more feline. They also were rarely any taller than your standard pony, as opposed to other bipedal races such as the Dogs or the Minotaur.
None knew why or where they arrived from, only that they moved at night, disappeared during the day, and that wherever they travelled, the attacks on the native peoples at night would diminish greatly. They quickly became folkloric heroes.
Then that fateful day came.
The powers they were granted every night, and the reason for their disappearance during the day, was because they somehow absorbed the ambient magic that Princess Luna put into the night. One night though, the magic did not fill the night sky. Left blind without the ability to draw power from the Solar Diarch's abilities, the Qi'ittah quickly began to die off unless they were a group specifically enamoured by any certain group.
This only lasted a short while, until rumours of Luna's 'betrayal' reached the ears of the populace. Quickly, the Qi'ittah, once revered as former heroes for their services, became targets as their relation to Luna was uncovered. In days, over eighty percent of the Qi'iitah population that had immigrated was killed off. The remaining population quickly sought out a powerful wizard at the time, praying that he could find a way to save their sight and lives.
The wizard swore that he would, claiming he owed a great debt to the Qi'ittah for protecting him during his travels. Sadly, he was also approached by those who wished to see the Qi'ittah dead.
Offered a large sum of gold, the wizard placed a great curse upon the feline race, and that night they were sucked into the sky above, to join the one they needed for the next thousand years.
But one thousand years have passed, and Khalida can feel her phantom body coalescing. She can feel herself falling.
"It is time to come home..."
