The Beauties of Youth, the Adventures of Parenthood

"Ouch!"

"Oh...sorry honey.."

"Ooof!"

"Oh geez, I'm sorry again...here just let me.."

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

"Oh no, we woke her up..shhhh shhh there there little Aurora...Daybreak, can u get the stuff and I'll take her?"

"Sure"

Daybreak and Twilight stumbled inside the Golden Oaks library after what seemed like an eternity of time walking. Daybreak held their many items from the hospital in his fields of magic, but the enormous amount of them was causing him to tumble about, unable to hold his balance. He quickly ushered Twilight past him along with little Aurora in her arms, then began to levitate the gifts through the door, one by one.

Twilight had been surprised, their friends had gone all out in buying them presents to celebrate little Aurora Sparkles birth. They were both very grateful and it seemed that everypony they knew had given them something. Well everypony except the group that always seemed to be absent these days, Shining Star, Rainbow Dash, Daring Do, and Princess Celestia. Daybreak knew why Shining Star was absent and easily forgave his friend, after all, if he had the time he might have joined him on his quest.

However, Daring Do and Rainbow Dash were a mystery, they had been seeing less and less of them lately. In fact, the last time they had seen them was right before Aurora had been born, and other than Daring Do looking like she might have gained a bit of weight, nothing had seemed different. They had not made it to Aurora's birth which had slightly upset Daybreak and Twilight, but after no news from them since, they had decided they must have been out on some important adventure and hadn't heard the news yet, so they too were forgiven.

The one that really made Twilight fume was her old mentor, Princess Celestia, being absent. All the other Princesses, and her brother had been there. How could her teacher and mentor miss the birth of her child, despite her supposed anger at Daybreak, how could she still bot show up at least for her? Discord had been absent too, but with him being in charge of finding the Changelings a new home, they could understand that. Twilight however, could not find it within herself to forgive her teacher for such a blatant disregard for her feelings and had since refused to send anymore letters to her directly. Daybreak personally didn't care either way, he claimed he understood her anger at him, but also agreed it was extremely thoughtless for her to ignore Aurora's birth the way she had, without so much as a letter of explanation.

A sudden, and extremely loud crash brought Twilight out of her thoughts. She looked back to the doorway and saw her stallion lying under a pile of presents, one of them impaled onto his horn. He wore a goofy grin as he struggled to squirm his way out from the mountainous boxes holding him down. Aurora spotted her father under the presents and to giggle with joy at his ridiculous situation. Daybreak smiled and levitated the first box from atop his horn

"Well...we may have to ask Rarity to repair her gift for us"

Twilight held her hoof to her mouth, stifling a giggle

"Oh...and why's that?"

"Cause I think I just skewered it...felt like a baby gown"

Unable to suppress her laughter anymore, Twilight set Aurora down on he ground and erupted into laughter. Seeing her mother topple over just like her father, Aurora broke out into fits of laughter as well. The trio laid in the pile of presents laughing for what felt like hours, (it was really only a few minutes) before Spike finally descended the stairs, clearly annoyed that his nap had been interrupted. However the moment he spotted who was in the doorway, he scurried down the stairs in a fit of joy.

"Twilight! Daybreak! You're home!"

They all turned as Spike hurried down the stairs and dove into a hug from Twilight. Once relinquished his grasp on Twilight he raised his eyebrows to Daybreak, which reminded the stallion he was still under a bunch of boxes and he quickly scurried out. Spike noticed Aurora then and bent down over the filly, who had recently become very interest in chewing on the nearest present.

"Hey there little filly, you remember old Spikey right?"

She ceased her chewing and turned her tiny head to the purple and green lizard before her. Her tiny eyes went wide and her face broke into a large grin

"Spike!" she pointed her hoof at him giggling.

Both Daybreak and Twilight froze in place, Twilight was so stunned she released her grip on Daybreaks hoof. Instantly his chin smashed into the floor boards below and his progress on freeing himself from his present prison was gone. Twilight immediately dashed from the room screeching

"Oh dear Luna where are my quills, quills quills, I need my quills and some paper"

Daybreak rubbed his chin uncomfortably and resumed trying to free himself. Twilight quickly stuck her head back in the room from the doorframe

"Daybreak, clock it, tell me the time and date, this is big our little filly spoke her first word and she's barely even a month old, we have to write it down."

Finally realizing his friend needed help, Spike left the little filly to resume her present chewing and began to help pull Daybreak from the pile of presents still blocking the doorway.

"Daybreak!" They heard Twilight yell from the other room

"Little busy right now love, give me sec here wooooah!"

With a strong pull Spike finally freed Daybreak, but he pulled him so quickly he flew right out and squished the little dragon under his body. Hearing the muffled pleas for air, Daybreak stood up and helped right the dragon. Spike shook his head rapidly clearing the stars from his eyes

"Ahh...When I said we needed to become closer Daybreak...this is not what I had in mind.."

"Sorry dude"

"Daaaaaaybreak" Twilight once again whined from the other room, although this time they could here the parchment ruffling against her quill

"Twilight I just got out of that death trap of presents over here, hold your tight little flank."

Spike made a swirling motion with his finger next to his head and pointed in Twilight's direction. Daybreak nodded his head and smirked. Suddenly Twilights head appeared in the doorway of the dark room again, catching Spike mid act. She shot him a glare

"Come on Daybreak, we gotta document her first words so we can always remember what they were"

Daybreak nodded with a chuckle

"Alright Twi alright, I'll go check the clock to see what time it was. Twilight smiled and her head disappeared from view. Then it quickly reappeared again

"And my flank is not tight!"

Daybreak snickered "I said uptight sweetie, but you know if you wanna go there..."

Twilight flushed red "I-I heard you s-say tight, you liar"

Spike chuckled and joined in "Naw Twilight, I heard him say uptight too...get your mind out of the gutter, we have a filly present"

They could practically see the smoke fuming from her ears as her face flushed deeper crimson

"I...You...I heard..Aggghhh"

She turned and disappeared back in to the dark room with her papers. Daybreak gave spike a quick hoof-bump and called after her

"Just kidding sweetie, I said tight"

They both heard a loud cry of annoyance before several white pillows shot out of the study room bent on their destruction

"Hit the deck!" Daybreak yelled as both he and Spike dove back into presents for cover.

Meanwhile Aurora watched as her father and lizard friend were repeatedly assaulted by flying pillows. She wished she could play too, this was clearly a fun game. After all her daddy and Spike were laughing the whole time. Maybe she could side with mommy, after all she was on her own against her strong daddy. She knew her daddy was strong, after all how else could he make all those boxes float inside on his own...but mommy did seem to be winning. Maybe she should just keep gnawing on this tasty box...yes this was a good idea...then she could still watch mommy beat on her daddy and Spike with those white fluffy things. As she gnawed away on her precious chew toy, she watched as her daddy ignited the horn atop his head, then suddenly all the white fluffy things that mommy had been attacking him with began to glow with a brownish color around them, then they began to float. She watched as he sent several flying back into the room where mommy was invisible and several loud "oofs" told her that they had hit their target. There were several loud stomps, suddenly mommy's face appeared in the doorway, one of the white fluffs impaled onto her horn, her mane was a frazzled mess.

Twilight wore a look of pure annoyance, but the moment she saw her daughters sparkling face, and Daybreaks innocent smile, she melted. She began to laugh despite herself and motioned for Daybreak to come over to her. He was reluctant at first, sure that it was a trap, but after she gave him the "bedroom eyes" look he smirked and trotted over. Twilight magically lifted the pillow from her horn and began to levitate it in front of her face. Daybreak eyes went wide as she grabbed him around the neck and puled him into a deep, passionate kiss. The pillow floated over their two faces, obscuring the view from Aurora, who became all the more curious because of it. Twilight's tongue attacked Daybreaks and wrestled against his, attempting to gain dominance in the kiss. She heard Spike make a gagging sound and the thuds of Aurora attempting to scoot closer to get a better view. After a quick minute she broke the kiss and removed the pillow covering their faces. Daybreak wore a wide smile that left  clear indication to Aurora, whatever mommy had just done behind the white fluff was very good. Daybreak gave Twilight a quick kiss on the cheek and then trotted into the next room without a word.

Spike gave Twilight a disapproving look which she chose to challenge

"What? I'm allowed to kiss the stallion I married"

Spike pointed at Aurora, who was smiling brightly and hopping in place, attempting to climb the enormous pile of presents separating her from her mommy. Twilight blushed red and picked up her foal within her magic, then began to prance around the room with her floating around her head. Aurora squeaked with glee as she was flown around the room by her mothers magic, then was whisked to the side of Twilight's face. Twilight crushed Aurora's cheek against her own and nuzzled her daughters face.

"I love you sweetie"

Aurora's peach colored face broke red with happiness and she began to squeak wildly

"Love you, love you, loooooove you!"

Twilights shock rivaled Spikes, she brought her daughter to eye level with her. Their eyes showed the same gleam of purple as they stared back at each other. A moment later Daybreak reentered the room carrying a note pad and quill in his aura

"Ok her first word was Spike and the time was...what are you doing Twilight?"

Twilight brought her daughter down from her face and set on her haunches, then turned to face Daybreak. The smile on her face almost scared Daybreak, nopony but Pinkie Pie should have been capable of a smile that big. When she spoke, Daybreak heard sheer glee behind every word

"She said I love you sweetie...she said I love you"

"Technically she said love you she never said the I" Spike pointed out quickly but Daybreak ignored him

"That's amazing sweetie!"

"It...is isn't it.."

Suddenly her face dropped a bit, Daybreak knew that look anywhere, Twilight was thinking about something

"What's wrong sweetie?"

Twilight touched her hoof to her chin ad began to tap it repeatedly

"Well I was just thinking...I don't think I've ever seen a filly or colt speak this quickly before...I mean they called me brilliant and I wasn't speaking in the first month. I know the Cake twins spoke in the first month, Pinkie told me they said her name, but that was it. I need to look into this a bit...our little filly might be more gifted than either of us Daybreak"

Daybreak raised an eyebrow "Twily are you sure? Don't get me wrong, if Aurora is a genius than she probably gets it from her brilliant mother, but its only a few words. Maybe you might be jumping ahead a bit love, let's hold off on that research and get settled back in here first alright?"

Twilight ceased tapping her chin and looked at Daybreak, then nodded. She smiled at him and scooped Aurora onto her back

"Come on sweetie, help me catch daddy"

Aurora yelped with joy and bounced on her mommy's back, Daybreaks eyes went wide and he took off upstairs, fleeing from the mares. Twilight took off after him, Aurora bouncing happily on her back the whole way up.

Spike began to shout after them

"Hey wait! Whose gonna clean up this mess?"

He looked around the room at the endless pile of presents scattered throughout the library and sighed

"I guess I just answered myself..."

He grabbed a broom and began sweeping the presents out of the doorway wondering how he was ever gonna get any sleep now that there was three of them. However as he heard the innocent shrieks of a little filly emanating from upstairs, he realized it was all worth it in the end.
