A blue light glowed from a screen and onto her face; it had done that ever since the sun came down. Her equipment was on, ready for her to give birth to songs that would blow the minds of others, but she had yet to even touch the machine other than to turn it on. Vinyl Scratch had been sitting still inside her apartment for the past five hours behind her turntables, waiting. Then, the moment came; her front right hoof started to tap out a beat. Slowly, the pace started to pick up; her head began to bob as the beat got more and more addictive. A grin appeared on her face; everything was starting to come together. Her groove had come into full bloom for what was the twentieth time today, which, for DJ-P0n3, was nineteen times too many just to make one song. Now, all she had to do was start recording the beat before she loses it. Just concentrating on the song and not a certain somepony. She wasn’t going to think about that beautiful, silky, black mane or her smooth gray coat. She wasn't going to think about how cute that pink bow tie looked, and she definitely was not going to think about how that angelic voice gave off a perfect blend sophistication and seduction. 'Just concentrate on… on… on…' She thought to herself. Vinyl realized her hoof had long since stopped it's tapping and was instead slowly inching its way down her stomach and towards her... “FUUUUUUU-!” She ripped the headphones off her head violently with her hooves and threw them across the room, not even bothering to look and see where they landed. She stormed across the room and out the door, stomping loud enough that her neighbors would probably complain about it again. She marched to her kitchen and telekineticly brought out a bottle of Applejack Daniels and started emptying half the bottle before setting back on the counter. “Auuuughh!!” Vinyl groaned, half at the burn of the alcohol flowing down her throat and half at her situation. “What do I dooo!?” Suddenly a rogue thought appeared. ‘Maybe you should call Lyra, this is all her fault anyways’ “Yeah, this is all her fault,” she said, replying to her thought. She reached out with her magic and picked up her phone from the kitchen counter, already going through some of her contacts. She found the right phone number, called it, and after hearing the phone ring six times, listen to the beep of the answering machine. ‘Oh you are not getting off the hook that easy’ spoke her thoughts, seemingly on there own accord. Vinyl grabbed her keys and headed for the door, turning off the lights and locking up her apartment before she trotted out into the brisk, empty, moonlit streets of Canterlot to get to Lyra’s place. *BANG! BANG! BANG!* There was silence for about four seconds before Vinyl started banging on the door again. *BANG! BANG! BANG!* The clopping of hooves lazily hitting a wood floor started to become more audible just as a voice started to call out from inside the apartment. “EHH stob, ahmb commun already!” There were a series of noisy sliding sounds before the door opened to reveal a tired and annoyed looking mint green unicorn. She put a hoof up to her head, running it through the dark teal mane with a white strip and let out a massive yawn before speaking up. “What do you want?” The minty mare said slowly, her still closed eyes. “Hey Lyra, I just happened to be in the neighborhood and thought that we should totally hang out. Like, right now. Maybe go to Pony Joes.” There was a long pause before Lyra spoke, a pause in which she cracked open her sleep deprived eyes and stared deeply at her surprise visitor. “Vinyl, you woke me up at 3:30 in the morning, just so we can hang out?” Vinyl thought carefully about her answer for all of three seconds, before giving a hearty, “Yup”. Lyra just stood at her door, letting her eyes sink closed once more, while Vinyl stared at the minty mare with anticipation. Lyra took a deep breath and then let if flow out as a heavy sigh. “Give me a minute,” she said before she closed the door, leaving the white mare outside to gloat her victory to herself. Though Pony Joes was open at all hours, the entire diner was pretty empty due to the fact that nopony wants a doughnut at three in the morning. They sat at the vacant counter sipping their coffee, which had only been ordered a minute ago. “So Vinyl what is this all about?” Lyra said, hoping to get through this quickly, as she took a sip from her coffee. “Lyra, I HAVE BEEN FORSAKEN!! I can't make my wubs anymore! ” Vinyl said dramatically as she faked a faint. “That doesn’t sound like a problem to me,” she said nonchalantly, taking another sip. Vinyl gave Lyra an angry pout but Lyra either didn't notice or didn't care. This was quite a reversal from her usual attitude. Normally, Lyra was an energetic and outgoing mare, giving life to the world around her. She was quirky, caring, and just an all around good friend, but all of that gets thrown out the window when she's forced to wake up at such an ungodly hour. “Okay, maybe it is a bit of a problem,” she said, finally acknowledging the mare beside her. “You're damn right it's a problem!” Vinyl agreed passionately. Lyra just took another sip of her coffee as Vinyl’s look of passion and confidence soon deflated into one of stress and confusion as she let out a heavy sigh. “I’m serious though. I can’t make anything. Every time I get a good beat going it all just...” she thought carefully about her choice of words for once. “...disappears, because I keep thinking about this stupid mare. And it’s all your fault.” Lyra cocked an eyebrow, and finally peeked her eyes open just wide enough to glance at the DJ in distress. “Wait, could you repeat that?” “This is all your fault?” “No, before that.” "I can't make anything?" "No, after that." “I keep thinking about some stupid mare?” “Yeah, that. Tell me about that,” she said with a growing devious grin. “Ugh, she’s just some cute mare I saw when I went to one of your practices last Friday. Every time I think of something good, I get distracted by her. I can’t live like this Lyra!” “Hmm, I think I’m getting a clear picture of what’s going on,” she said, her smile evermore wider. “Really!?” Vinyl said her voice full of hope. “Yeah, but you should probably keep telling me about this mare” “Oohhhkay, well, she’s an earth pony; black mane; has a nice gray coat; and this sexy voice that just-" The DJ started listing all the things that had polluted her mind for the last couple days, but the sleepy mare interrupted her a couple minutes into her rant. “And what about her flank?” Lyra asked, smile armed, going for the kill. A crooked smile crept on the side of the DJ's face. A crooked smile that Lyra saw and sighed, “Okay, I think I know what your problem is.” “So what’s the diagnosis, doc?” “You've come down with a bad case of lovestruck,” Lyra played along. “You’re telling me I can’t get any work done because of some silly filly crush?” Vinyl asked in non-belief. "Well, nothing made it a 'silly filly crush' other than the fact that you practically are a filly, silly, and totally have a crush. So yeah, this isn't serious for anypony but you." “What makes you an expert?” “Dr. Lyra Heartstrings; PhD in anthropology, music theory, and love. It just so happens that every member of the Heartstrings family is a natural in the art of inducing heat," she said, almost proudly. "I'll take your word for it. Now, what do I do about my.... condition" "Jeez, Vinyl, it's not a terminal disease. You just gotta talk to this mare, you know? Hang out and show her a good time. Nothing to it," she said, making it sound easy. Vinyl went stiff, "What!?" "I said, you just gotta talk to her," Lyra repeated. "But, she's all fancy and junk! I mean, have you seen her at all? She's got all this class and stuff going on around her and she would never even think of talking to someone like me. Lyra, she goes to your orchestra, what do I do?" “That’s not that big of a dea-” Lyra started, only to be interrupted. “Lyra, she has a bow tie. A. Bow. Tie.” Vinyl said slowly. Lyra sighed and began thinking in silence under the gaze of a desperate DJ, until she turned to Vinyl, "Okay, Vinyl, come meet me at the end of my next practice tomorrow, and I'll help you out." "Really?" she said in slight shock. "Yeah really, now I'm going to go home and get back all the sleep I lost," Lyra said as she lifted up from her seat and trotted lazily towards the door. As Lyra left, Vinyl felt a smile grow; hope and happiness were seeping in as she started thinking about tomorrow. 'Maybe, just maybe, this all might get better. All I have to do is meet up and talk to her...' A rogue thought appeared once more, 'And not make an idiot of myself'' Vinyl's head fell onto the diner counter, hitting with a rattle from her cup as she let out a loud groan. "I'm doomed." Head Over Heels"Hey, I'm Vinyl Scratch. Yes, yes thee Vinyl Scratch. The DJ-Pon3 whose playing at every grea- uh nonono no. Too show offy" A white unicorn paced along the sidewalk outside of a theater where Lyra's orchestra played. The streets were busy with hundreds of ponies ranging from locals trying to get to their job's, to tourists window shopping, all of them chattering about in a loud commotion of a thousand different conversations, drowning out any words that Vinyl said. Everypony had somewhere to be, somewhere to go, something to do, except for the DJ with the huge purple sunglasses. 'Lyra told me to be out here and wait for her practice to be over, so she's probably going to introduce me, but how do I make a good impression on a mare who is so hot.' Vinyl paced in contemplative thought. 'What if I say something stupid? What if I make a total idiot of myself and then she'll want nothing to do with me. What if won't ever let me talk to her again! What do I dooooooo~' Vinyl shrunk thinking of all the possibilities before she slowly regained her composure. 'C'mon breathe Vinyl. You can do this. What did Lyra say last night?' "Licking doorknobs is illegal on other planets" 'No, that wasn't it.' "It feels like I'm wearing nothing at all." 'No, not that either' "Vinyl just act like yourself and everything will be fine, so for the last time, stop freaking calling me and let me get some sleep!" 'Yeah, that sounds about right. Just act like yourself Vinyl. You're cool; you're sexy; you got this.' Just then, the theater started to let out all of the Royal Canterlot Orchestra to go home. Many ponies Vinyl didn't recognize flooded into the streets as she feverishly looked for Lyra and the grey mare. Eventually Lyra and the mare with a cute bowtie left the building together, talking idly with one another. Vinyl barely kept herself from running up to them and doing something stupid, and instead managed to walk over to the pair as they halted facing her. Lyra slipped Vinyl into the conversation with ease, introducing Vinyl saying, "Oh, hey Vinyl. Octavia," She gestured a hoof at the white unicorn, "this is Vinyl Scratch a good friend of mine from college. She's the one who played for the Royal Canterlot Wedding." Octavia looked impressed at that, "The Canterlot Wedding, really? That's pretty impressive." "Y-you too," Vinyl stammered. 'Cool as fucking ice Vinyl. GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!' Lyra smirked for only a second at Vinyl's awkward predicament before continuing on with her introductions and gestured a hoof at the gray mare, "Vinyl this is Octavia, she's the lead cellist in the Orchestra and a member of an ensemble that plays for the Galas." Vinyl wanted to spit-take. Even though those words meant nothing to her, they sure did sound pretty awesome. "Wow, that sounds pretty awesome." "Well, when you love what you do, you tend to do well. But I only play for the Grand Galloping Gala every now and then; you playing at the Canterlot Wedding, which must have taken a quite a bit of skill. What instrument do you play?" Vinyl started feeling a bead of sweat on her forehead. She only got the job at the Royal Wedding, because Pinkie Pie knew her. Becoming a famous DJ doesn't ever sound impressive on paper. "Oh well, umm, I don't really play an instrument at my gigs. I just use a turntable and I sorta just play all kinds of... music and stuff," Vinyl was starting to find the buildings behind Octavia extremely interesting. "A turntable?" "Yeah," Vinyl turned to face Octavia, "I mix songs and play them for parties and stuff." "Well, I suppose that's fair, although am I to assume you also try to make your own electronic music." "I do tend to try my hoof at my own stuff every now and then." The cellist smiled softly, "I figured you for a creative mind. I don't much understand the appeal of your style, but I do understand that a lot of work that goes behind it, sometimes." "Well, if you didn't understand the awesomeness of wubs, I'm going to bet you weren't listening to my tracks." 'Wow, did I really just say "awesomeness of wubs", goddesses, I'm stupid.' While Vinyl was mentally facehoofing, Lyra saw an opportunity open up and took it just as quick as she saw it, "Yeah, Octavia, you should give it another try. Me and Vinyl were going to a club tonight and we thought you should come with us; it'll be fun." Although Vinyl was surprised at the unexpected invitation, she didn't protest it. "Oh sorry, but tonight I'm going to dinner with Freddy," the gray mare apologized in a sincere manner. For tense two seconds silence reigned in between the two unicorns, until Lyra simply asked, "Freddy?" 'Come on Vinyl, keep it cool' "Yes, Frederick Horseshoepin. He's my colt friend and...." Vinyl couldn't hear anything Octavia said, due to the interlocking mechanism within her mind that had gone dead, rendered her frozen in place. However, that didn't stop her from screaming and shouting as much as she wanted within the confines of her mind. 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' Lyra, however, wasn't as blindsided by this setback, and continued on with a forced smile, "Oh well, we understand. I'll see you tomorrow at practice Octavia" "Very well then, goodbye Lyra, goodbye Vinyl, have fun at the club." Lyra began to walk away, but turned around to see Vinyl standing in the same spot; frozen. She quickly came back and dragged the frozen DJ away by the forehoof, trying to laugh away Octavia's odd gaze at Vinyl. Vinyl offered no resistance. It's Not UnusualIt was dark by the time Lyra reached the apartment complex Vinyl lived at. It had been two days since they met Octavia and she hadn't seen nor heard a peep out of her normally loud friend for a while, a fact that was odd enough to make her decided that she would pay her friend a visit after practice. After walking inside the apartment building, the mint unicorn walked over to the white door in the hallway that belonged to the DJ, and started knocking. After not getting a response, she rolled her eyes and opened the already unlocked door. Inside all the lights were off and every curtain was closed; the sound of a deep moaning came from one of the hallways, though it didn't sound anything like a pony; and the smell of alcohol was strong enough to put a bar to shame. The sounds of the moans were actually kind of creepy with the dark and dusky atmosphere. Lyra looked uneasily at the darkness, when a loud clattering of glass hitting the floor, caused the minty mare to jump. Then an empty liquor bottle of rolled into the light in front of her, accompanied with a different voice from before peaking up from the darkness. "Awwwuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~" came a soft drunken voice. Lyra's hesitant expression was replaced with a deadpan and walked into the room and turned on the lights, before closing the door. This elicited a groan from the creature of the darkness, "Ngaaaahhhhhh..." Lyra walked into the small living room that Viny had since turned into her work space and saw the most pathetic sight she had seen in some time. A DJ lying on her back on the floor surrounded by empty liquor bottles howling to the ceiling with sounds of... "Vinyl what are you listening to?" "Awuuuuuuu~" was the only response she got. The minty unicorn groaned and walked behind the turntables and plucked the record off to get a look at what exactly it was that had been playing in the background. Lyra raised an eyebrow, "'Songs of the Sad Whale?” she asked the befallen drunk unicorn. "Don't judge me." Vinyl slurred as she rolled onto her stomach, her face pressing down into the liquor stained carpet, "Mr. Splashy understands me. We connect on a level you'll never get," she said, her voice muffled through the carpet. After her claim, Vinyl rolled once more onto her back and spoke up, "Mr. Splashy and me are both lonely souls w-who will ne-ehver get layyyyyyyy-ay-ay-ay-aid." She made it about halfway through her second statement before she broke into sobbing, even though she no longer had tears to shed. Lyra sighed as she came out from the turn tables and laid next to Vinyl patting her back, as Vinyl turned to hug her friend and cry into her fur. "There there, it'll be okay." "No it won't." Vinyl's muffled voice said into Lyra's chest. "Vinyl, when it comes to matters of the heart, I'm always honest and serous, so look at me" Vinyl reluctantly looked up into the minty mare's eyes, "We are going to make this right." Vinyl tried to stifle a wet sniffle, before wiping her nose with the convenient patch of fur she had been offered to cry into. “Charming” Lyra whispered to herself as she shivered with a hint of disgust. "But Octavia said-" "Don't worry, I planned for that." Lyra repeated coolly. "What if Octavia isn't-" "Don't worry, I planned for that." "But I-" "Vinyl." Lyra raised her voice, before returning to her soft, soothing tone, "I have a plan." "How do you know it'll work?" Vinyl gaining a glimmer of drunken hope in her eye "Vinyl, if you weren't so drunk, I'd be offended, so just this once, I forgive you." The minty unicorn said with a small smile. "But I need to kn-" Vinyl began, only to be cut off by Lyra. "Shh-" "But these are-" "Shush!" "I just wa-" "Vinyl, no.” Lyra said firmly. Vinyl was starting to get frustrated with Lyra's refusal, so she turned to her ultimate weapon: Puppy eyes. "Pleaaaaaase, tell me." Albeit her ultimate weapon had lost its effect thanks to the liquor, but it still got results. Lyra groaned at her friend's persistence, before she finally conceded. "Okay, I'll tell you all the science behind this." "Yesh!" "But I'll do it tomorrow at my place, after practice, be there." She said before getting up and making her way out the door, making sure to wipe the snot from her chest and rub it off on the couch. “I need a shower...” She whispered. Turning JapaneseShe started out as gray blur, but as she approached she became more and more refined. She trotted up closer, her body swaying those child bearing hips side to side with each step. Black rubber socks on each hoof, but blaring out more was her pink bow tie and pristine white collar. Her soft, lavender eyes looked straight into Vinyl's; speaking with only one word: Hunger. She licked her lips as she pushed Vinyl onto her back and onto a soft bed. The unicorn in question was petrified and unable to move; but she could still feel. She needed to feel this, right here, right now. Her heart race faster, her breaths getting short, and the sweat beaded down on her forehead. She felt so alive as the gray goddess lightly traced her hoof down the center of Vinyl's chest and on to her upper left thigh. Then took to a gentle circular motion around Vinyl's slit. It was pure torture, but it felt too good to hate. The gray mare wanted Vinyl to beg for her, but Vinyl couldn't say a thing. She wanted to though; deep down inside her head she was begging oh so hard, but on the outside, she couldn't make a sound. Despite the silence, the gray earth pony got the message as she broke into a sultry grin, lowering her head down between Vinyl's thighs. Vinyl's anticipation grew with every inch that the gray muzzle grew closer and closer, but it stopped just as soon as the muzzle did. The gray head lifted back up for a moment, just long enough for her lavender bedroom eyes to stare straight into Vinyl’s, just before she went back down and… Vinyl’s eyes shot open to see a sheet of darkness cast over her; first she noticed that she was in her bed. “Fuck, it was just a stupid dream!” Then she noticed how wet and warm her sheets were around her legs. “….” She sat there in silence as a blush surfaced from her face. “Fuckin' really?” she muttered softly, plopping back down in the bed.

"Yeah," Vinyl turned to face Octavia, "I mix songs and play them for parties and stuff." "Well, I suppose that's fair, although am I to assume you also try to make your own electronic music." "I do tend to try my hoof at my own stuff every now and then." The cellist smiled softly, "I figured you for a creative mind.
