MISTAKE. FAILURE. Those were the only thoughts going through my mind as my body struggled to contain my unfathomable rage. The spell should have gone perfectly, I had been thorough in my research and flawless in my inscribing and incantations. Apparently not, as I was currently lying in a creator that was certainly NOT in the Southern Desert. I knew that magic by it's very nature was difficult to control, and from time to time would rebel from it's usual habits and throw a sometimes literal curve ball at whoever was trying to use it. But I was far from rationality convoluting in that shallow hole in the ground. Ah yes, the heat from a spontaneous matter transfer was even more incredible than described in the ancient tomes, and I could feel thousands of individual cells bursting from the temperature. Utterly excruciating. With a strong breeze blowing, after a few minutes I was able to cool off enough to regain control of my limbs and crawled out in an rather undignified manner.
After I hoisted my mass out of the scoop from the earth's face, I promptly collapsed and laid upon the cool grass. It was rapidly wilting underneath my steaming body, but the turf was refreshingly temperate in comparison, and I buried my face in it. After my body had started to stop it's simmering, the broiling thoughts currently rushing about my mind became much harder to ignore. How long had I been a Mage, AND I FAILED A SIMPLE SPELL CRAFTED BY INSIGNIFICANT KNAVES!?! Well, they were not insignificant, the Ancients were a highly advanced civilization who were credited with creating Thunder based circuitry, Necromancy and other such wondrous things deemed impossible for mere mortals. As such they were annihilated by some vindictive deity whose name has been lost to time, along with that of the people he destroyed. He wasn't very thorough however, as there were numerous texts left behind that served as a basis for modern witchcraft today.
But there was still the matter of how I FAILED AND NOW I AM SUFFERING FOR MY IMPERFECTIONS. I growled in my anger, my voice distorted by my lax vocal cords. Damn, the heat must have damaged my body structure, now I'd have to reconstitute myself. After I repent for my sin of FALLACY! I lifted my head out of the dirt's soothing embrace and screeched out a few Hail Marys, made further incomprehensible by my true face covering my mouth. The sentiment was what mattered and as a reward the screaming and hatred receded to manageable levels. Now I could focus on rebuilding my muscles, the chains of flesh in my limbs were in total disarray, and this too quite some time fixing.
I had spent a better part of an hour kneading the muscle fibers in my arms and legs to their proper order, and as my first act of business I pushed myself up to a sitting position, so I could better observe my surroundings. I didn't need to create those kinds of structures for myself to move, but honestly, what out there would be killed by having a flailing tentacle slapped in their faces at anything under 60 f/s? You need bulk if you want to break bones.
The world I saw is dark and grey, a result from the black lenses over my eyes.
