Prolog: The Multiverse according to Dr. Whooves

The Multiverse, set of alternative universes linked by 3 fundamental forces; Gravity, Electromagnetism and Nuclear, all in a delicate and constant balance. These contain an unidentified number of “alternative dimensions” who rarely or never interact with each other. There are theories that, when it happens, the affected dimensions will…

-Dr. Whooves? - A voice calls the light brown, dark mannered colt with a cutie mark of an hourglass on his flank from the outside of his private laboratory. - Someone is looking for you Doctor -

• Sheesh, Derpy! , I SPECIFICALLY told you that I SPECIFICALLY don’t want to be disturbed SPECIFICALLY at this time! -, The Doctor answers in an abrasive voice, but strangely still sounds polite. - The data I’m about to analyze is crucial and cannot be interrupted! -

• B-but it’s important Doctor - The voice of Derpy, a Blonde-manned gray Pegasus with bubbles as her cutie mark insist a bit nervous. - It´s ROYALTY important. -

• “Royalty”, what she´s ta… oh! Yeah of course! – The Doctor mumbled to his self, realizing who the guest was. - Let her in, quick Derpy, we must not let our guest be unattended. -

• Right away Doctor! - answers Derpy, opening then the doors to their guest, a tall dark-blue pony with wings and a prominent horn on her forehead, with a blue semitransparent mane which looks like the night. She enters with a straight face but with a spark of curiosity in her eyes.

• Good night Doctor- This Pony was nothing less than the Princess of the Night, Princess Luna, who is still trying to adapt to the new times after being trapped in the moon for the last thousand years. - We hope we’re not interrupting your studies with our royal presence.-

• Of course not your highness, there’s always time for the royalty - The Doctor answers very polity while he bows softly to her. - After all, I’m the one who called you this morning - after that, he turns to his desk again where there were a lot of books of astronomy and notebooks with numbers and diagrams. There were also monitors, buttons and some very futuristic stuff, which was an advanced technology for Equestria. - Eh Derpy, can you bring to our princess and me some tea and muffins please? , and close the door - He commands to the Pegasus who immediately closes the door with a slam, leaving to the kitchen.

• Well, what was that important that needs our help? - The princess asks with the traditional royal tone, but with a more “common” tone.

• Where alone now, I can speak freely about this - The Doctor turns around so see Princess Luna, holding in his hooves some notes. - Princess, would you tell me how exactly you got free from the moon? -

• What? - Luna was surprised and confused about the question. - Hum well, we don’t know exactly how, the only thing we know is that inside the dark confinement on the moon we saw 4 stars, which combined and make a gate to where was our sister. We just take the chance to get out. -

• Just how I suspected - The Doctor says taking some notes and reading again others.

• What’s the matter Doctor? It´s that very important to your investigation? - The princess asks him now more confused about.

• Yes indeed - Answers the Doctor - That confirm what my research and data tells me about this “space/time” anomaly I detected recently - The Doctor approaches to a large closet with a straight and immerse in his thoughts. - If my theory is correct, and you already confirmed it, those “stars” how you named it where actually “dimensional sparks”, an energy who is only created when 2 dimensions collide - Then he push a button, a monitor turns on showing an animation of many spheres moving up and down apparently in a total chaos.

Luna looks at the monitor totally amazed - What are… -

• This is the map of this Multiverse - The Doctor interrupts the princess, pointing a very small sphere down in the monitor. - And we are here, as your highness can see this universe is relatively small but following my research there are even smaller ones. Actually this universe has an average size. -

Luna approaches the monitor, her mind has lots of questions but can´t choose which to ask first. All were too important to her. Then she saw one of the universes go through another one, generating a bright light and “sparks” around. - What was that? - The princess stares at the Doctor worried about.

• It’s the reason that makes me call you here your highness - The Doctor says with a concern tone. - What you saw right now was 2 universes “colliding”. -

• Colliding? But it just passes through it. They did not collide - Luna says, still confused about what she just saw on the monitor.

• That’s the point, remember that a universe is almost infinite for us, we are nothing compared to a universe dimensions - The Doctor walks around while explaining. - Those sparks and light are countless of galaxies and planets colliding each other trying to be in the same space at the same time, what you know it´s impossible. When 2 universes collide there are rifts or holes in the time and space fabric leading to the other dimension, a rift like the one your highness use to escape the moon. -

• B-but that’s was magic, was it right? - Luna interrupt the Doctor worried about this new information. - There were predictions, signals, and prophecies. How my sis and all those ponies who write about my return know nothing about this? -

• They know I could presume - answers the Doctor - The dimensions apparently go in a random and chaotic way but each one has an specific orbit. Some ones orbit around a bigger one, others approach to the center of the multiverse and then goes very far, almost out of it, there is an order an harmony in this apparent chaos. But it is not perfect; let me show you something your highness. -

The Doctor walks then to his desk followed by Luna; there were some draws and notes too complicated to the royal pony. - According to my data, and the signals you have confirmed to me, our dimensions is on a collision course with another one, fortunately will be a quick experience but might be a disaster to all Equestria - the princess gasp hearing that, but the Doctor continues. - These type of cosmic events are extremely rare but there are proofs that happen from time to time, at least mathematical proofs, unfortunately there are not living creatures that live enough to see twice that event.

• So what will happen to Equestria? When this Calamity will happen?!We command you to tell us! - The princess finally spoke, with terror in her face and starting to panic.

The Doctor hold her by the shoulders - Calm down your highness, if my calculations were correct this catastrophe will not take place in at least 1 or 2 billion of years. Unless I miscalculated some data and happens in 2 or 3 months but I usually don’t miscalculate nothing. And there’s were enters you Princess Luna. -

A now calm Luna takes some breath and then ask, - Explain yourself Doctor, What we are supposed to do with all of this “cosmic catastrophe” if you saw that there is as many time as the life of the sun itself? -

• Is rather simple, but may need the help also of Princess Celestia. If an alien living form comes through those “gates” it will cause panic across Equestria even if it comes in peace. I already inform her about this situation but she asked me to inform you face to face while she searches for a spell which might protect every pony in Equestria. - Luna starts to think about a spell, might she know something that might help to protect every pony. Something that even Celestia might not know about.

The door of the laboratory opens with a slam, startling both Luna and the Doctor – coming through! – Derpy enters pushing a car with many flavored muffins, tea cups and a pot filled with Tea.

• Derpy, how many times I told you. Knock the door before enter! - The doctor says a bit angry with her mid-time assistant.

• Sorry Doctor But… -

• No buts allowed, leave us alone and close de door when you go out please - Derpy with her head down goes out. Slamming again the door. – Sometimes I wonder why I keep her as my assistant -

After that, Luna remembered a spell that might works, a spell she used to change her appearance into a more diabolical one when she tries to do an eternal night. –Shaped shift spell! - Suddenly she speaks with the louder imperial awe.

-Pardon me? - The Dr. says confused by the sudden words of the princess

-Oh, excuse our manners- she blushed a bit noticing that she again used the imperial awe she used to speak. – The shape shift spell, the one we use to change into the “Night Mare Moon”, with proper application of it, we…-

-We can change those alien forms into something familiar to Equestria! - Both ended saying the same phrase, both of the ponies blushed after that. – Ehem, yeah, that might works your highness, but will need a lot of power to cover al Equestria with that spell, and even more to keep it through the years to come- The dr. finished his phrase before Luna.

Luna stands up quickly and starts to walk to the door. –You already say it Dr. , Celestia already knows the situation, and she has more power, she just need to share it with me and we probably can overcome to do a proper spell, and doing it every year will be enough to keep it alive while Equestria exist don’t you think.-

-Well yea, that’s a solution but there´s much time to think about it, maybe…- The Dr. tries to convince her to think in other solutions but Luna has already decided herself. –Princess Luna, wait!-

Both ponies leave the laboratory and goes to the Palace, Derpy was in the Kitchen making more muffins to herself when they go out. She then enters the laboratory and saws all the paperwork and monitors showing the universes. Then she noticed a flashing button near the large closet with the Multiverse map and pressed it. The map changes into Real Time Mode, showing now the Equestria Universe about to collide with another Universe bigger that it. Derpy frightened about doing something wrong pressed again the button, putting again the monitor showing the simulation, and then she runs away, closing the doors now gentile and going to the kitchen to finish her muffins.

A few days pass when one night, at the new celebration of the longest night of the year; both Princesses disguised the new “shape shift spell” into the “rising moon spell” of Luna, making a spectacular show of lights. No pony would know that the peaceful days were about to end in a dramatic and dangerous event.
