Waking Up In a New World for Dummies
So, I essentially have no life. I'm twenty years old, been living in the same cramped apartment since I graduated high school (or at least since my parents kicked me out), and I have no steady income since my boss fired me. It was a total misunderstanding, and he blew it way out of proportion. The guy trying to order his food was being a total jerk, and his shirt looked so much better with ketchup stains anyway. Whatever. I really only ever go outside to check the mail, though it seems to be a waste of time, since nobody ever sends me anything, and my parents are the only other people I ever really talk to. I'm still convinced they love my little sister more, though. Anything she wanted, give it 5 more seconds, and she had it. If I wanted something, even something as simple as the definition of a word, I got the household-wide known line, "Figure it out on your own." I hated that more than anything! It wasn't fair! Why did I have to work for what I wanted, and watch my sister get everything she wanted delivered on a silver platter? Anyway, before I get on a long rant about that I'd better move on. I haven't really talked to any of the few friends I had in high school since graduation. They all went off to college to do whatever else, whereas I decided to stay home and figure out my own path. I started my own YouTube channel at one point, mostly for gaming and stuff like that, but I lost interest when I discovered My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Just a quick explanation about how I get interested in just about anything. I'm terrible at doing anything in moderation. I either never get truly interested in something, or I get completely addicted to it until I find something else to transfer that addiction to. During high school, I was addicted to marching band, Minecraft, NASCAR, writing random stuff, sleeping (I technically never transferred from that addiction), and watching the MLB on TV during the evening, all in that order mind you. I got addicted to making gaming videos for YouTube about 3 months after I graduated high school, and I would make about 4-5 videos a week for about the next year. It wasn't until I'd gotten bored one day and stumbled upon some MLP fan made videos on YouTube that I really started getting interested in My Little Pony. Eventually, I got tired of seeing the same videos over and over and went on Google to search for the TV series episodes. After watching all of the first episode, and about 5 minutes of the second episode, I was officially addicted, and since I had nothing better to do, I spent the next week watching every episode of the series that had been released so far, and by the end of the week I was completely caught up at Season 4 Episode 20. Yeah, I know. I'm pathetic. Like I said in literally the first sentence, I have no life.
Now, growing up, I was known around the house for having very realistic-feeling dreams. I would wake up in cold sweats at night just as often as I would wake up wondering why I was in this strange world that differed from my dream completely. Yeah, I was a mess, and I never really got over that issue I had. To be fair, my parents really didn't help with that all too much. When I told them about my dreams, they would just laugh and say, "You have quite the imagination." Maybe I wasn't your average joe, but I had read enough psychology books to know that even people in worse off conditions than myself never talked about having dreams like me. It drove me insane. Every morning I would wake up, wondering if the events occurring around me were really reality, and growing up, I had the hardest time separating my dreams from the real world. It didn't really get better the older I got, but I got used to the dreams, and learned to differentiate the real world from my dreams. At twenty years old I still get teleported to new worlds when I fall asleep in my bed, and I wake back up in the same old bed just to realize that it was another dream. I thought it would never change, until that one night...
