Princess Idalia Helen Solaris Celestia awoke in her private chambers of her castle before dawn. She rose the sun and drank her morning coffee. It was a normal day in Canterlot-
CRASH!
"Princess!!" Came a loud voice from behind her. Her chamber doors had been burst open in less than a second, a purple alicorn came running in. She didn't have to look to know it was the purple alicorn because only two ponies were allowed to burst into her private sanctuary. It couldn't have been Luna because she was fast asleep having guarded the night for hours on end. So it must have been...
Celestia sighed. "Twilight-"
"Princess Celestia I need your help!!"
Seeing her little alicorn so helpless made Celestia's heart melt. Oh, she always does this to
me! This isn't fair,
"Yes, dearest Twilight, what is the matter." Celestia fully turned to face Twilight, a look of concern filled her expression as she spoke.
Twilight quickly hugged Celestia with her front fore hoof and backed away just as fast.
"Okay,soijustgotaskedoutonadate-" Celestia put a foreleg against Twilight to stop her mumbled speech.
"A date? By who?" Celestia answered just a little too loudly.
"Um, Flash Sentry." After a few breaths Twilight finally stopped panting and looked at Celestia with pleading eyes.
"I like him, I like him so much but... I've never been on a date before so when he asked me out not too long ago, I ran away. But I feel so bad, and I don't know what to do.." Twilight tried to hide behind her own purple wing.
Celestia smiled a gentle smile and said," Well, you like him don't you?"
Twilight blushed and twirled her hair with a hoof. "Hm, yes."
Celestia looked at her normally bookish and serious student acting like a filly.
The older mare knew Flash was one of her guards, but she never spoke more than ten words to him since he began his job a few months ago.
"Well Twilight, if you like him, then you should accept." She said at last.
The white alicorn hated saying those words. She didn't think Twilight was ready for a serious relationship. Plus, she had always been a little possessive of her number one student.
Twilights eyes lit up. "Thank you Princess, when it comes from you I have all the confidence I need to do anything! I know what I need to do now!"
Twilights fast mood changes didn't surprise Celestia. But she still worried. She didn't want Twilight to be distracted from her royal duties by some Coltfriend.
The lesson Celestia learned that day was that sometimes you have to let go. When a pony very close to your heart gets to the age where they need their own space, you had to let go, and
she was no pony to interfere with that unspoken law.
The sun princess knew that if she didn't let Twilight learn the lessons of life, she would never have had a good foundation and made Twilight the mare she was today.
Grinning, Celestia thought to herself. Still, it wouldn't hurt to have a talk with the colt in question. Just to be sure.
............................................
"So you see, Flash, you have my blessing to take her out on a date. But let me warn you. "
Celestia stood at her full height. The corridors of the castle grew dark ,and her eyes lit with
the power of the sun.
"If you hurt my precious Twilight in anyway, I will shake the very foundations of Canterlot to find you and when I do, you will have a lot worse to face than a broken hearted Alicorn. I also promise to send you to the pits of Tarturus, minus some important body parts of you hurt one little hair on her mane." Celestia paused and moved closer to Flash, to where her muzzle was inches away from his. " Do I make myself clear?"
Flash Sentry, the royal guard who was trained to keep a straight face was nearly in tears. His own knees betrayed him as he shook in front of Celestia.
"O- o-of c-course my p-p-princess!" He bowed pathetically.
The room returned to its bright and jovial configuration. The drapes that hung on the windows opened as Celestia's magic faded away, and the sun came shining through. The Princess touched her hoof to Flash's shoulder. He stood up and she smiled gently at him. Her moods could change just as fast as Twilights too.
The poor guard was still shivering, and may or may not have made a puddle on the castle rug.
Celestia sighed. "Ah, well, yes. That about sums our meeting up this morning Mr.Sentry. You are free to go."
............................................
"YOU DID WHAT??" Shouted Twilight as she stood agape staring at Celestia.
"Well, I wasn't trying to scare him, I just told him what would happen should he choose the wrong path." Celestia answered calmly.
Twilight turned to face the window of her mentors private chambers. "I can't believe you did that. That's why he was scared out of his wits on our first date."
Twilight was in thought for a while, and Celestia patiently waited for her to speak again.
"Do you think that's why he married me?" Twilight’s eyes filled with tears as the realization hit her.
Celestia touched her hoof to her fellow princess's shoulder. "Don't worry Twilight, I know he married you for the right reasons. And I didn't force him to tell me that." She chuckled.
"What?You didn't?"
Celestia looked out of her window along with Twilight under her august wing.
"Well, after your first year of dating he came to ask me for your hoof in marriage."
"He told me he asked my mother and father," Twilight said sounding confused.
"Oh, he did." Celestia shifted a little. "He...came to me after he asked your parents. He said he figured it was the right thing to do after our little talk when you first began to date."
Twilight shot Celestia a glare.
"Well, anyway, he said he knew how much I cared for you. And that I deserved to be the first to know besides your parents that he wanted to marry you."
Twilights face softened. “Oh Celestia, I had no idea.. You would go after someone who broke my heart?"
"Oh, my dearest Twilight." Celestia squeezed her Princess tightly with her wing and nuzzled her with her neck.
"I would destroy them."
Twilight and her Mentor then watched the sun set across the horizon both basking in each other's presence.
"That is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me." Twilight whispered, tears in her eyes.
