The Heroes of Equestria
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext ChapterJon woke up in the same bed he fell asleep in. His headache appeared to be gone and he felt better than his usual self. He looked at Twilight’s bed to see she was no longer there, then stood up and stretched; vision not becoming blurry this time.
Walking downstairs, he saw Twilight making a salad. She looked at him and smiled.
“You were certainly tired.” She said, looking back at the bowl of salad. “Do you feel any better?”
“I feel way better now, thank you.” His attitude changed a whole lot more as well. He was back to his ‘normal’ peaceful self.
“Don’t mention it.” The purple light appeared around her horn and the bowl of salad hovered toward him. “Here.” She looked at him again. “Breakfast is ready. My assistant, Spike, would’ve usually done this but I let him go on vacation.”
Jon grabbed the bowl and ate using small bites. He wasn’t much of an herbivore but the last thing he wanted to do was complain. She started making herself a salad.
As Jon took little nibbles out of his breakfast, he started regaining his memory of how he arrived in Equestria.
“I think I recall what happened next.” He said.
Twilight looked at him. “You d-“
She was interrupted by the booming sound of dubstep and looked very annoyed.
“Hold on a few seconds.” She said with an irritated groan.
Jon barely heard her over the music and she vanished into thin air. He looked around in confusion to see where she went but there was no sign of her. Seconds passed and she appeared in the room again, looking extremely irritated.
“Well, apparently my neighbor, Vinyl, won’t turn her music off so we’re going to have to go to somewhere quieter.”
Her horn lit up and they both appeared in a field filled with apple trees. The sound of dubstep vanished and Twilight sighed with relief.
“Now, you were saying you remember what happened?”
“Well, I don’t remember everything but I remember more than I did last time.”
“I’d love to hear about it.” Twilight said, sitting against a tree.
Jon sat against a tree across from her. “Well, there I was in the ocean…”
He was sinking and couldn’t swim up. The ‘water’ prevented him from doing so. All he could do was swim down. Nevertheless, he still attempted going up.
Within several minutes of getting nowhere, he saw a large figure of a fish in the distance. It was swimming toward him at an alarming rate. He couldn’t do anything about whatever it was that was approaching him.
Soon after he spotted it, he realized it was a shark with two heads. Its teeth were spinning as if someone was looking down a blender. As it was just about to take two large chunks out of him, another one came out of the shadows and devoured the abomination in three large bites.
Jon quickly swam down as fast as he could, which was considerable fast since the liquid itself was pulling him down strong enough for him to not be able to swim up. By the time the second shark was done with its meal, it lost sight of Jon, who was swimming in pitch darkness. Within a minute of swimming in water as black as tar, everything suddenly went white.
He started falling endlessly. Looking up, he saw the ocean as dark and void-like as it was a few seconds ago. It was floating. He blinked once and was laying on his back. His entire body was drenched in sweat and there was an unbearable heat.
Standing up and looking around, he saw he was stranded on a small rock made island surrounded by an ocean of lava that went as far as the eye could see. Hanging above the ocean, was a giant heart that looked like it was human. Chains held it up to the ceiling of the cave Jon stood in. As each beat escaped from the heart, the cave shook slightly.
Twilight looked really interested from the story. “Wow, that’s really amazing.”
“TWI LOOK OUT!” An orange pony with a southern accent and a Stetson was cantering toward her. “YA HAVE SOMETHIN’ RIGHT NEXT TO YA!”
“No no wait! He’s with me!” Twilight yelled, standing up from where she was originally sitting.
The orange mare stopped and looked at both of them with confusion. “What?”
“He’s with me.” Twilight said calmly. “He’s not dangerous, Applejack.”
Jon stood up and Applejack quickly glanced at him, taking a few steps back. “Then, what is it?”
“I find it offensive when you say ‘it.’ Can everyone er… everypony stop calling me that?”
“IT CAN SPEAK!?” Applejack yelled.
“HE has been telling me how he got here.”
“How did he get here?”
Twilight looked at Jon. “Can we tell her?”
Jon sighed in disappointment. “Can you tell her Twilight? I don’t really enjoy repeating stories.” He said, sitting against the tree again. “Don’t call me an ‘it.’ Also, don’t bash my skull in. It’s not very civil.”
They all sat down and Twilight explained everything to Applejack. Most of the things in the story just went through her head because she never even heard of guns, firefights, or humans before.
“So you’re sayin’ that you teleported to some world?” The orange mare asked.
“Well, yes.” Jon said simply.
“What’s that gotta do with Equestria?”
“I don’t know but that’s all I seem to remember. “
Applejack looked at Twilight. “Do you believe this?”
“Yes.” Twilight responded, standing up. “I don’t think it’s a good idea to keep him out in the open like this. I mean, you would’ve killed him if I didn’t stop you. Imagine what other ponies would do if they saw him.”
“Where will we hide him?”
“I don’t know.” Twilight thought to herself. “Maybe he can camp out in the orchard for a few days and we could bring him food and water until we know what to do with him.”
“Wait, why can’t I stay at you’re place?” Jon asked.
“If Spike sees you, it could cause panic.” Twilight responded. “All you have to do is stay in the orchard for a few days.” She turned to face at Applejack. “Can you provide him a good place to hide for a few days?”
“Sure can.” Applejack replied, smiling. “Let’s get you somewhere safe.” She said, walking away.
Jon looked at Twilight. “It’ll be alright, follow her.”
“I’ll see you later I guess.” He did as he was told and followed Applejack down into the orchard. They walked side by side for several minutes in complete silence. Finally, Applejack spoke.
“Sorry I nearly killed ya.” She said, looking away in shame.
“Oh don’t mention it. I could see why you would freak out from seeing a human for the first time. Everyone else freaked out when they first saw me.”
“You mean everypony?” She asked, correcting him.
“Uh… yeah sure.” He replied.
Jon noticed there was a mark of three apples on her flank. He was very interested in these different marks he kept seeing on every other pony. The nurse had a red cross, Twilight had some sort of star, and Applejack had three apples.
Applejack saw what he was looking at. “Why ya starin’ at my cutie mark?”
“You’re cutie what?” He asked, looking at her.
“My cutie mark. What’s so fascinatin’ ‘bout it? Never saw a cutie mark before?”
“No, I’ve never seen anything like this. What’s its purpose?”
“It shows what talent ya have.”
“So, you’re talent is… apples?” He asked, laughing a little.
She seemed a little offended but knew he was just teasing her. “Yeah, laugh all ya want. No, my talent ain’t apples. I’m a farmer.”
Minutes passed and Applejack stopped, looking around.
“What is it?” Jon asked.
“I reckon nopony will see you here. You’re camp’ll be here.” She said, trotting away.
“Wait, where are you going?”
“To get you some supplies.”
She continued trotting away and he sat against one of the many apple trees that surrounded his new camp site. Birds were chirping and everything was peaceful. The warmth of the sunlight felt really good as it hit his skin. He started dozing off from the silence as well as the comfort from the gentle heat.
He was standing on the small island surrounded by an ocean of lava, staring at the large human heart held up by chains connected to the ceiling of the cave.
A deep, male voice appeared in his head. “You’re here.”
Jon looked around in panic. “Who said that? Where am I? LET ME OUT OF HERE!”
“You will be leaving this place soon, Jon.” The voice said. “But you won’t be going home.”
Jon continued looking around. “Where are you? How do you know my name?”
“Look behind you.”
Jon did as he was told to see the giant human heart. “I’m talking to a heart?” He asked in confusion.
“I’m going to send you to a different universe.” The voice said, avoiding Jon’s recent question. “When you get there, you’re going to kill someone for me.”
“Why would I do anything for you? Especially kill someone for you!? I’m not going to be used as a tool for your bidding. You didn’t even tell me how you know who I am!”
“I know you too well, Jon. So I’ll ignore your refusal this one time. But if you refuse to do what I command once your there, then I’m sending my minions to your location to find you, kill you, and finish the job you were supposed to do.”
“Why do you want me to kill this person anyways?”
“She isn’t a human. She rules the world I am going to send you to. I want her dead because I want to conquer every galaxy, star, planet, moon, and all life.”
Jon looked a little startled by the words that appeared in his head. “Why me?” He questioned.
“You don’t remember?” The voice asked.
Jon woke up to a loud thud and looked around. He saw Applejack standing there, looking at him.
“Ya fell asleep?” She asked.
“Yeah.” Jon replied as he stood up. He looked as if he just saw a ghost.
“You alright, suga cube?” She asked, looking at him to notice his startled expression.
“Yeah…” Jon said, rubbing his eyes. “… Yeah I’m fine.”
“Well, I got you’re tent. I reckon ya know how to set one up.”
“Yeah, I can set one up.” He started setting it up and Applejack started helping. It was set up within a few minutes.
“I got ya a sleepin’ bag as well.” She said, holding it in both her front hooves, causing her to stand up straight as a human would do. “Here ya go.”
Jon took the sleeping bag and unrolled it under the tent.
“You know…” Applejack said. “I haven’t camped in a while; I can stay here for a few days and keep you company.”
Jon got out from under the tent and looked at her. “That would be nice.”
Applejack smiled. “I’ll be right back. I’m gonna get my campin’ supplies.” She cantered away and Jon paced from point A to point B, trying to remember what happened next, but had no luck.
Minutes passed and he saw something fly past him from above. He stepped backward into the shade of a tree next to his tent, hoping he didn’t get spotted by whatever it was. To his right, he saw a cyan coated pony flying right toward him at an alarming rate. The pony pinned him to the ground and stood above him, and they looked at each other face to face.
This pony had a rainbow mane and magenta colored eyes. “Who are you and what are you doing here!?” The pony yelled. She too, had a female voice.
“My name is Jon! I’m not a threat! Just ask Applejack when she gets here!” He attempted getting up but she pressed her hoof into his shoulder, causing him to stay still.
Applejack was trotting back to the campsite with her stuff and saw her friend pinning him to the ground. “Damn it Rainbow!” She cantered over to the camp site. “Let him go.”
“How does he know you’re name?” She asked, still staring at him.
“’Cause Twi told him. Get off him, now.”
“I’m keeping my eye on you.” The blue coated mare whispered to Jon, right before she obeyed Applejack’s orders.
Jon stood up quickly and started backing away from them slowly.
“Oh well would you look at that. Ya scared him enough that he ain’t gonna trust us no more.” Applejack said, setting her supplies down and approaching Jon afterward. “Come on now. You can trust us. She was just bein’ careful.”
He stopped walking and stared at the orange mare approaching him. She stood face to face to him (having to stand on her hind hooves). “Calm down, we ain’t gonna hurt ya.”
Jon sighed and looked at the cyan coated pony. She looked sorry for what she did. He walked back to the camp site that was still being built.
“Sorry.” Rainbow Dash said quietly.
“It’s fine.” He quickly replied.
“So…” Applejack started. “I never did get your name.”
“It’s Jon.” He said quietly as he sat on the sleeping bag in his tent.
“Nice to meet you, Jon. This here is Rainbow Dash and I’m Applejack. But I reckon you already knew that.” She started setting up her tent.
Rainbow Dash looked at Applejack making her tent, then at Jon’s tent. “What are you two doing?” She asked.
“The two of us are campin’.” Applejack said as she finished setting up the tent. “We can’t have Jon here walkin’ ‘round Ponyville so he has to stay here until Twi and I figure out what to do.”
Rainbow Dash observed Jon. “How did he get here anyways?”
“That’s a long story that ain’t even complete. I don’t even understand it.”
Jon’s mind started flooding with the one idea as to why he was here… to kill whoever ruled Equestria. His stomach started to turn and he felt sick.
Many hours passed and it was getting dark. The two ponies gathered up sticks and made a campfire. They all sat around the light of the fire and ate some apples that Applejack collected.
“So, what is this ‘Equestria?’” Jon asked, taking a bite from the apple in his hand.
“It’s where us Earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns live.” Applejack answered.
“Pegasi?” Jon asked, raising an eyebrow.
Rainbow Dash spread her wings out. “I’m a pegasi.”
“So tell me, Jon…” Applejack said. “What’s the name of the place you originally came from called?”
“Earth.”
“Huh…” Applejack seemed interested with this ‘Earth.’ Maybe not vocally, but he knew inside she was pretty interested. “So, there are more of your kind there?”
“Yep.” He said with a smile. Seconds passed and his smile faded quickly. “However, they are extremely dangerous. Well, I should say some of them are dangerous. Not all.”
“Dangerous how?” Rainbow Dash asked out of curiosity.
“Where I come from there are wars, genocide, rapists, murderers, chemical warfares, and communism takes a big role in some parts of Earth.”
“That doesn’t sound very peaceful.” Rainbow Dash said, stating the obvious. “What’s… chemical what’s it called?”
“Chemical warfare… you really don’t want to know. You may think you do, but all it’ll do is cause nightmares. All I can say is that it’s a weapon of mass destruction that should’ve never been invented. Humans are really dangerous. Be cautious around them if you see another.” He strictly advised.
“Why should we trust you?” The pegasi asked.
Jon looked at her for a few seconds, feeling insulted. “Because I could’ve killed both of you with all the opportunities I was given. Yet here you are, alive and untouched. I’m not like every other typical human. I’m quite gentle as long as I’m not feeling threatened or tied down to something.”
They continued to sit around the fire in silence until they all decided to call it a night. Rainbow Dash flew up into a tree and slept on a branch. Applejack went to her tent and looked at Jon.
“G’night sugacube.” She entered her tent and Jon entered his a few seconds later.
