Shadow, Volt, and everything Dashed
Prologue, Volt to Equestria
Don't look for me in the spotlight, don't think that I am the one
Who brightens your lives and endlessly strives to live a life in the sun~
The small yellow figure continued to trek through the forest, trying to elude his pursuers, avoiding all light he could to try and remain hidden. The dark, damp scenery around him grew thicker with each step, each hop, each crawl, every movement leading deeper, and creating thicker foliage all the while.
'Never show yourself again! Just go and never come back!'
The sparking electricity dulled, removing the light he produced as the darkness enclosed around him, searching desperately for relief. Visible images of the objects around him faded and grew closer in range, lessening his foresight to the direction he traveled through sight alone.
I will never shine, I'll never be beautiful. And I will never be yours
She made it clear I should stay right here so you can be sure~
The light dulled as it glanced his fur, the dried blood deepening this effect further. His fur stuck out in all angles as a tangled mess, giving no respite for how horribly he looked already. Nothing would want to claim anything in such poor condition.
'You're leaving now. Aren't you? I thought you said you'd stay here with us all. With me...'
He stopped and looked toward his paws, visions of what atrocities and necessities they'd performed to help him and those around him lingering, and stayed there as he knew what he'd left behind, and how foolish he'd been with the mistakes he'd made. Seems everything isn't as easy to handle as he once thought it was. Reality was much more harsh than one might think...
That I am no hero, I can't answer your prayers.
No matter how I feel inside, I know that nobody cares~
His mistakes from mere minutes ago came back to him as he could hear the voices of the ones chasing him deeper into the forest, and treaded on. Silent memories of voices from the past asking for pleas of help and assistance persisted in his head, reminding him of the times he both could, and couldn't help.
'No, what are you doing? You can't do this! This isn't who you are!'
His emotions quickly took form within him as the sight of a bush that looked much like an old friend flashed as lightning flashed through the canopy and brightened the region for just a split second, anger, fear, anxiety, happiness, misery, regret, everything was bursting forth as he remembered everything in that split second, before he shook his head and then treaded on. Who would care for someone who maliciously threw away their friends for power?
For I am no hero, when you look to the skies
You will never see my face, you'll never see me cry~
He looked up to the sky and noticed the thunderhead above the canopy, as rain started to trickle down, quickly gaining pressure and volume.
'Are those... Tears? S-stop crying.. You're going to make me cry, seeing my idol like this...'
He closed his eyes and charged further into the seemingly endless forest, as a salty taste started to fill his mouth unpleasantly, his tears melding with the rain that now drooped from the sky.
This is the real me, unashamed, but not unafraid
I wont say I'm sorry for who I was, I cant say I never strayed far from the light~
A lone flashlight shined out from in front of him, slightly frozen before taking notice of only two patrol before him, and launched a lightning both from his still able cheek, shocking the two into unconsciousness, and clearing his current path.
'Your body is fading already... I guess this is it, huh? Oh, and one other thing...'
A small light flickered from the light as he walked away, the charge of electricity knocking it out at last. Exhausted, worn out, hungry, thirsty, he retained his leftover energy and continued to walk. Hope for possible respite clouding his mind.
Away from the path that all the righteous have tread
But I'll never lie, no I'll never try, to claim I'm perfect instead~
It seemed the sounds were disappearing for now. Seeking a different route in order to find and purge him and choosing wrong. Allowing him to hop up into a tree and relax shortly.
'Even if you're not, you were always perfect to me... and I hope we meet again... Volt...'
Suddenly a voice raised his alarm, and it seems his rest was disturbed. The two he had knocked out earlier must have been discovered, leading them to the direction he was heading.
"If this continues they'll eventually catch you, ya'know?"
The sudden voice startled him, before he eventually registered it wasn't a voice from someone, rather inside his mind. Must have been a result of what had happened earlier...
That I am no hero, I can't answer your prayers.
No matter how I feel inside, I know that nobody cares~
And just how was he supposed to escape? The entirety of the enemy was out in its whole regimen, closing in on his location with each passing second.
"I can give you a way out of here, and there is but one thing I want in return."
At is point with his enemies closing in, the rain pouring down hard, the pains coursing through his body, his mind was unable to process correctly.
For I am no hero, when you look to the skies
You will never see my face, you'll never see me cry~
Was indeed the only way to escape, to trust this strange voice? At least he could hear this voice out and decide whether or not to trust it.
"In return for giving you escape from your pursuers, I will claim your memories, excluding your name."
Just memories? This seemed like both a good, and bad trade. No more remembering the past..
No I am not perfect I just want to be
The one you look up to in times of need~
His thoughts led him to a conclusion quickly as he nodded silently to himself, giving confirmation for the trade.
"Very well, keep running in one direction no matter what happens, and I will guarantee your escape. Oh, and by the way..."
He begrudgingly trusted the voice and started to run as fast as he could in one direction, hopes to continue and live to fight another day fresh in his mind.
But you love another I'll never be the same, when you're lonely like me
don't call my name.. Don't call my name...~
Who, and what was the voice however, was what dreaded him the most. Why was it so friendly, and willing to help him escape for such a cheap price? Whatever. That wasn't important. Passing right between a whole squadron of his enemies now in chase as they yelled after him made him believe he'd been fooled and this had all been a trap.
"It's good to see you again, and I'll see you later, seeing as how I live in you. Don't expect to see me soon. And it's been a pleasure doing business with you... Volt."
With those final words, reality seemed to warp around him, an array of colors fading and appearing, his enemies seemingly phasing out behind him as they disappeared quickly, their voices only an echo. His memories declined to nothing in he span of mere moments as he found himself in a new forest it seemed, along the edge and leaned against a tree. Snow at his feet, chilling him to the bone soon as he huffed out a few more breaths, then collapsed into the snow layer below him at the edge of this forest, his final lingering memories disappearing before drifting off into unconsciousness, the slight glimpse of a cottage nearby catching his eye before darkness overtook his vision.
For I am no hero~
