Equestrian Future

It was the brink of day, Twilight lies in her bed dreaming about a picnic she and her friends had been planning for weeks. As Twilight woke, her loyal assistant Spike greeted her. “Morning Twi!” he grinned, seeing his friend had finally awoken. She slowly got up and rubbed her eyes in the cutest way.

“ugh, hello Spike.”. Twilight was exhausted from all the planning she was doing for the picnic.

Twilight moved to her bookshelf, immediately and took out a unique story about Sherlock Hooves. “Aww, I remember this book, I read it a long time ago once.” she plopped her flank on the floor and read it. Suddenly, a soft knock was heard on the door.

“Spike, could you get that~” she groaned having just woke up. Spike hurries to the door, his stubby legs making it a bit difficult to move fast. Twilight's violet eyes continue to skim through the book.

As Spike opens the door, he sees the emerald eyes of his friend Fluttershy, who smiles softly. “H-hello Spike.” she smiles.

“Hello Fluttershy” he speaks in his childlike voice with a chuckle at the end. “How can I help you?” he quickly asks after his little greeting.

“It's Rainbow Dash, she is having a small problem at Applejack's farm” she frowns and Twilight walks up to the door.

“What’s happening, Fluttershy?” Twilight looks a bit concerned by what she had overheard.

Fluttershy smiles, “Oh yay, Twilight!” she coughs, “It's Rainbow, she has had a little too much hard cider...”

Twilight slams one of her hooves into her own face, “Ugh, not again...”. She goes deep into her library. She soon returns with her saddlebag on. “Alright Spike, let's get going.” Spike gives a slight smile like he always does and jumps onto Twilight's back.

Twilight hurries to Sweet Apple Acres at full trot. “Oh I hope she hasn’t already hurt herself!” Twilight's normal tone of speaking raises in concern. Spike, getting motion sickness from all the bumps Twilight hits on the way there holds his mouth shut so he does not vomit.

“Oh brother~” Spike groans and Twilight looks back at him, an embarrassed smile on her face.

When they all finally arrive at the Farm, Rainbow Dash is in flight and bumping into things, laughing goes into a nosedive straight at Twilight. Spike jumps off of her and Twilight cries out, “GAH!!!” Rainbow slams into her hard and she looks at Twi, a hiccup escaping from her muzzle.

“Oh hello Twi!~” she says in her drunken stupor.

Twilight shakes her head in a daze. “Whoa, what just happened?” She rubs her face, having been hit hard. Rainbow blushes hard at her friend, who she had just speared. Her eyes widen at what she had just done.

“Oh! I’m sorry!~” Rainbow hiccups. Twilight gets up and looks Rainbow in the eyes.

“Alright missy, you’re coming with me!” her horn shines with magic and she grabs Rainbow tightly with it.

“W-where are we going?~” Rainbow giggles as if this were a joke. Twilight walks towards home carrying Rainbow with her.

“Ugh, this is just what I need...” Twilight grumbles to herself. “And on the day before the picnic!” she lowers her head in disappointment. Rainbow looks at her and frowns feeling bad for her drunken actions. They both arrive at the Library and Twilight slowly floats Rainbow through the door. She drops her onto the couch and heads to the bathroom.

Rainbow looks back curiously and goes to the bathroom as well. “Um...Twilight?” she pokes her head in and doesn’t see her friend inside. She walks into the bathroom. “Twilight?”

“Got ya!” Twilight shoves Rainbow into the tub and sprays Rainbow with hot water then cold simultaneously. Rainbow flails, “Ahhhh! Stop!” she yelps and squirms,coughing. Twilight stops and gets a towel. Rainbow looks at her.

“It was hot, then it was cold!” Twilight grins.

“Yes but knocks the drunk out of you!”

Rainbow nods, “In a weird way...How did you know that would work?” she asked intently.

Twilight looks at her, “Seriously? Do you know who you're talking to?” Rainbows rolls her eyes.

“Right, you read books...”

Spike hurries in through the door, “Hey, thanks for leaving me back at the farm!” he says sarcastically, “Geez...” he chuckles. Twilight mouth drops.

“Oh, I'm so sorry Spike!” she hugs the dragon, “I was in a hurry, and I forgot you...” She looks at him apologetically.

Rainbow laughs, “oh Twi,” she rolls over onto her back, and laughs, “that’s classic!”

Later that night, Twilight lies by a fireplace and reads a book. Rainbow flies in through an open window and lands next to her. “Hi!” she smiles and rubs the back of Twilight's head with the tip of a feather from one of her wings.

Twilight smiles at her friend and nods, “Hello there.” Rainbow giggles. Twilight goes back to reading, for she was enchanted by the storyline and plot. Rainbow scoots closer to her. She whistles and nudges Twilight. Twilight raises her head and looks at her. Rainbow then kisses her gently on the lips.

Twilight pulls away instantly, “Rainbow?! What are you doing?!” Rainbow blushes in embarrassment and her ears lay back onto her head. She then thinks of a quick response to cover up her true feeling towards her friend.

“Oh, I didn’t mean that,” she giggles, “I guess your water trick didn’t work all the way. I still feel kind of buzzed.”. Twilight raises a brow and falls for this because she is too tired to notice a blush that has crept across Rainbow's cheeks.

The next day, the sun rose as usual. Twilight wakes up with a nonchalant yawn, and yelps, “The picnic, it's today!!” She rushes out of her bed and sees Rainbow is still in the library, asleep on the floor. Twilight has no recollection of the kiss that took place last night.

Twilight freshens up and combs her mane, “Looking good today Twilight, the only unicorn who will outdo you today is Rarity.” She then exits the bathroom. She notices Rainbow is still asleep. “What?! I was in there for at least fifteen minutes!!” She walks up to her friend and nudges her with her muzzle, “Rainbow, wake up!” Rainbow remains out cold. “Grrr, get up!” bites Rainbows ear

“Ahhhhh!!!” Rainbow jumps up into a hovering flight. “What was that for?!” Twilight giggles.

“The picnic is today Rainbow. Remember?” she slides her hoof across the floor. Rainbow fake laughs and nods.

“I knew that” She crosses her hooves as Spike walks by and chuckles. He looks up at Rainbow then looks to Twilight.

“Yeah, no she didn’t,” he says bluntly. Rainbow's jaw drops, she lands and blows her mane out of her face. Twilight smiles and heads to the door, Rainbow following behind with Spike, who had climbed on her back.

“Now Rainbow, Spike...”, Twilight speaks as she walks to the park with her two friends, “Every one of our friends will be there, so be kind”. Rainbow grunts.

“Why wouldn’t I be?” she rolls her eyes feeling as if the message was pointed at her.

“Because Discord will be there, and we all know how much you hate him Rainbow...” Twilight looks back with a grin, yet in her eyes she could tell Twilight was serious. Rainbow rolls her eyes once more.

“Fine I'll be kind to 'Dipcord'” she chuckles at her own comment. Spike looks at her, not amused by the joke.

The three arrive at where the picnic will be taking place, two of they’re friends are already there. Discord pokes his head up and waves.

Discord smiles and he chuckles a bit. Fluttershy is setting more stuff up. She smiles and Discord flashes with a white light as he teleports next to Twilight. “Hello everypony! So good to see you all~” he smiles. Rainbow Dash growls slightly, not in the mood for his antics after her fail attempt at hooking up with Twilight last night.

“Hello Discord, Fluttershy.” Twilight smiles and Spike waves, still afraid of the draconequus. Spike sweats a bit, nervous, as Twilight smiles.

“Hello 'Dipcord'...” Rainbow mumbles under her breath. She flares her wings and looks at Fluttershy with a smile, “Hi Shy!”

“Hello Rainbow,” Fluttershy says in a timid, yet excited tone. Discord grins because even though Rainbow mumbled it, he heard every word.

“Yes, so good to see you too Rainbow Dash~,” he says after he grinned, he snaps and a bag of seeds appears and he eats some. “Mmmmm, hungry?” he tosses the bag at Rainbow, it smacks her muzzle.

“Hey, watch it buddy!” she growls at him. Twilight sighs and looks at Rainbow with a warning glare. Rainbow gets the hint and stops. Fluttershy looks at Discord and frowns.

“Now Discord, is that any way to treat our friend Rainbow?” Discord shakes his head and sighs.

“My apologies, Fluttershy...” he sits down, The rest of the group starts arriving: Rarity, Applejack, and a bouncing Pinkie Pie.

After a while, they are all eating, laughing, and talking. Spike looks at Rarity, who is giving all of her attention to Applejack at the moment. “Hey Rarity?” Rarity looks at him, she is all dressed up and fancy.

“Yes Spike darling?” she is fanning herself, due to it being so hot outside. Spike blushes at her, even when she is hot and sweating, she manages to give him a warm feeling inside. He decides now is a perfect time to tell her how he feels about her, so he looks at her and he is about to speak when he burps and fire bursts from his mouth, the flames almost hitting Rarity.

Discord falls over, laughing and wiggling around,. “Oh yes,! That was hilarious!” he laughs more as he continues to wiggle around. A letter lies on the ground, this letter has a gold ribbon around it and a royal emblem on it. Spike picks it up hurriedly.

“Rarity, I'm so sorry! I-I didn’t mean to!” Rarity smiles gently and sighs with relief that she was only singed. She nods at him.

“It's alright dear, it was only a singe,” she chuckles and looks at the letter, “Twilight darling, I think somepony wants you...” she levitates the letter to Twilight. Twilight’s horn illuminates with the violet light of her magic as she takes it and opens the letter, reading it to herself.

Her ears lay back as she reads, she looks up at all of her friends, “I have to go to Canterlot alone girls, not even Spike can come with me...” They all frown, Rainbow Dash lets out a groan, still wanting to tell Twilight of her feelings for her.

Twilight walks up to the castle entrance after the guards let her by, her throat is as dry as an empty pond. She trembles, wondering why her friends weren't allowed to come along. She is about to open the door, when Luna opens it and smiles. “I saw you coming towards the castle, Twilight. Please...come in.” Luna looks uneasy.

She leads Twilight to a part of the castle that she had never been before. Twilight looks at the nocturnal princess, “What is this place?” Luna sighs, “Celestia will be with you soon...” she walks away. Twilight plops her flank onto the floor of the cold castle, she is unsure why Luna is acting so distant.

“Hello Twilight,” Celestia stands with her eyes closed and wings flared.

“Celestia!” she runs up and hugs her teacher’s legs. The princess's eyes jolt open and she smiles softly. “What is it that you have sent me here for?” Twilight asks, naturally being curious about the situation.

“That is too hard to explain. But if you follow me, I have something to show you” she begins to walk away, Twilight follows behind like a baby animal following its mother.

“B-but...I don’t understand Celestia,” Twilight whimpers and looks at the walls as they begin to fade from marble to a metal of which she had never seen before. “What will explain?”

“Down that hallway to that doorway...go there,” a tear is in Celestia's eyes. Twilight doesn’t notice this and she walks to where she was told. Luna walks up to Celestia.

“You don’t have to do this,sister...” she frowns at Celestia.

“We were told by our future selves to do so. Why would they come all this way to tell us something that did not need to be done?” She now walks up behind Twilight.

“I don’t see anything in here, Celestia...” Twilight pokes her head in the doorway and looks around.

“Forgive me, Twilight...” Celestia uses her large wings to throw Twilight into the small chamber. The door closes and seals shut. An ice-cold mist begins to spray on Twilight. Twilight screams in pain at the cold touch and falls over on her side, calling to her teacher for help. Celestia stands there, eye closed and waits, tears escaping her closed eyes.

Moments pass and Twilight is in cryosleep. Luna walks up with tears in here eyes, “Now, what do we say to her friends, Celestia?” Celestia looks at her sister.

“Simple, we wait a couple of weeks, then we go to Ponyville and say she died during a treacherous journey.”
