Derpy's Special New Friend
Young Derpy really liked going to school.
It was not at all like home was, home was boring especially since Derpy had no one else to play with most of the time so Derpy always felt lonely.
School was fun though and Derpy really liked it, there were lots of other filles and colts there and they always played with her.
There were some grownups at school too they didn’t play with Derpy but they where nice unlike some of the other adults that weren’t nice to Derpy sometimes, Derpy made adults upset sometimes.
Derpy really liked her teacher Miss Clover, she was especially nice and whenever Derpy was loud or wouldn’t pay attention she was still nice and sweet.
Derpy always thought Miss Clover was a lot like her mommy, or what she imagined her mommy would be like since Derpy didn't have a mommy.
Derpy had a lot of friends too but she couldn’t always remember all their names but everyone was like her friend so it wasn’t a big deal.
A lot of things fascinated Derpy, simple things that most ponies didn’t pay attention to but Derpy did, she paid attention to lots of those things.
The stars were one of them. They were so bright and shiny and when the night was clear there were much more then Derpy could count even if she tried her hardest to count them.
She always dreamed of learning to fly like all the grownup ponies could, then Derpy could fly up to the stars and her daddy said that’s where her mommy was so Derpy wanted to go where mommy was.
Miss Clover said the stars were the same as their sun was, but the sun is big and hot and never came out at the same time the stars did so Derpy never understood that.
One day Miss Clover had something important to say so Derpy made sure to pay extra attention.
Once Miss Clover was done talking she introduced a new filly to Derpy’s class, this made Derpy really happy because she could make a new friend she hoped.
Derpy loved all her friends very much but she loved making new ones just as much.
Derpy learned her new classmates name was GlowWorm but Derpy called her Glowy, her coat was pale orange and she had a horn that meant she was a unicorn unlike Derpy had, Derpy knew she was a Pegasus.
Glowy had short hair like Derpy had and Derpy liked that because most of the other filles had long hair unlike she did.
She didn't notice at first but her other classmates didn't like Glowy like Derpy did, but Derpy liked her very much because she was really nice even when Derpy couldn't remember her name.
When Derpy wanted to play after class Glowy always wanted to play, but Derpy didn't notice it was because no one else wanted to play with Glowy but Derpy did, Derpy always wants to play with her friends.
Derpy would always have something to eat that her daddy made for her, sometimes Derpy would get two muffins that she liked very much and she would give one to Glowy since she always wanted to play.
One day was very special because everypony in Derpy's class was getting their picture taken, Derpy had to sit very still or else she would get in trouble so Derpy tried her best to stay still while her picture was getting taken.
Glowy was after Derpy and they were the last to go in their class and Derpy thought Glowy looked really pretty, she had on a pretty dress and she had a pretty bow in her hair just like Derpy did but Derpy just had a bow.
Derpy was really excited the next day to play with Glowy but she wasn't there, this made Derpy sad but maybe she just had a tummy ache like Derpy got sometimes.
Derpy was more sad when Glowy didn't come to school the next day either but no one else seemed sad like Derpy was, Miss Clover knew everything but she didn't know where her friend was when Derpy asked her.
But on the third day all her sadness went away when Derpy saw Glowy come into her classroom, but Glowy wasn't happy like Derpy was and she didn't look the same either and didn't want to play.
Derpy saw weird marks and bruises on Glowy and her hair was a lot shorted and she didn’t have her bow anymore, Derpy was really happy when her friend came back but she wasn’t the same and that made Derpy’s happiness so away.
When Derpy wanted to play after school she looked around for her friend Glowy but Derpy couldn't find her anywhere so Derpy looked and looked till long after everypony else went home and Derpy should have too.
Derpy found Glowy hiding behind their school and thought that she was hiding and playing a game, but Derpy couldn't think of any games where ponies had to cry.
Derpy tried to cheer up her friend but she couldn't and that made Derpy sad too, it took Derpy a while to find out what was wrong and Glowy only got more sad.
Glowy's family didn't like her becuase she was all girly like the fillies she knew and they said she should be like a colt, when she went home from school and getting her picture taken Glowy got in a lot of trouble and not the sort of trouble Derpy always got in.
Derpy had always known that about her friend, the other ponies called her names and she didn’t look like a filly is some places but to Derpy it was okay.
Everypony always said that Derpy was different and they treated her differently too in ways she didn’t like, Derpy would try really hard to be like everypony else but when she did she wasn’t happy so she was herself treated everypony like they wanted to be treated just like she wanted to be.
If Glowy wanted to be a Filly like Derpy Derpy thought that it shouldn’t be okay and didn’t understand completely why it shouldn’t be.
Glowy wouldn’t stop crying when Derpy hugged her so Derpy hugged her tighter and tighter and said she could have both her muffins tomorrow instead of just one, but Derpy couldn’t hug her to hard since she was sore in some places.
Glowy said she didn’t want to go home so Derpy said she could stay at her house if her daddy said it was okay.
It was late already when they walked home and Derpy knew her daddy would be mad at her for not coming home, but the stars were starting to come out and Derpy really liked those so it took her longer to get home.
As Derpy gazed up at all the shiny starts she got a idea and made a promise to Glowy.
When Derpy learns to fly she’ll take Glowy all the way up into the sky to see the stars and Derpy’s mommy will be there too, Glowy can wish upon the stars to be a filly just like she wants and Derpy can be with her mommy.
Then everypony can be happy even Derpy’s daddy because Derpy knew he missed mommy sometimes, but Derpy could go up into the clouds where daddy said mommy was and she can make could make daddy happy again.
That made Glowy really happy and she wasn’t sat anymore, it made Derpy happy too but even without her wish she’ll always be a filly just like Derpy Derpy told her.
Derpy’s daddy was mad at her for coming home so late but Glowy still got to stay over and her and Derpy stayed up all night having fun until daddy said to go to bed.
The next day Derpy’s daddy said Glowy had to go away and Derpy didn’t like that, daddy said she’ll come back someday but Derpy was still sad.
Derpy waited at school everyday for Glowy to come back and even saved an extra muffin for her, she would save up a whole lot of muffins but daddy threw them out and promised he would make more.
As the days went on Derpy still waited even after she couldn’t count any higher, and when they got their pictures Derpy kept Glowy’s safe because she knew she was coming back.
Derpy started to think she would never see her friend again but one day Miss Clover said they had a new foal joining their class again, she kept smiling at Derpy until Derpy saw it was her friend Glowy.
Derpy hugged her so tight and didn’t let go, her hair was longer now and her coat didn’t having any markings on it anymore which made Derpy more happy.
She said she got a new mommy and daddy and they were much nicer and let her be a filly like she wanted.
Derpy was so happy she could hardly pay attention as Miss Clover talked so she excused them to go outside and play and she said Derpy was a very good friend.
Derpy never saw Glowy sad again after that, she was always happy and smiling and Derpy was too.
And Derpy worked really hard on learning to fly even if she got in more trouble because of it, she still had a promise to keep with her special friend~
