Chapters Chapter 1- Day of recollection
Celestia was wondering the halls of the Canterlot palace. The day had been worth nothing of note. The occasional visitors and diplomats were nothing new to the princess. The few guards that actually took the time to interupt her mundane life usually had nothing of value to say.
Her duties would soon be relieved to her sister for the night, and she couldn't have been happier. The last few days were starting to flow into each other as she found it more and more difficult to sleep. She had tried confronting Princess Luna about it, but her sister offered no resolution.
She always felt as if she was being watched by something, an unseen force that she felt rather uncomfortable about. Only recently had it escalated to the point where she would wake up to what she thought was mumbling. However, her searches would always turn out pointless as nothing was out of place.
As she thought about the entirety of the problem she felt an unnerving urge, and decided to look out one of the passing windows. There was nothing unusual about the ornate frame work.
It wasn't until she looked out that she realized that there was a much greater problem at hoof. The sky was occupied by not only the setting sun, but the moon as well.
The moon wasn't supposed to be out for another hour, and she hadn't even gone to wake Luna yet to raise the moon.
A few ideas came to the front of her mind, but she quickly shook her head and shoved them back into the vault in which they had been locked away.
She galloped through the palace, hoping that what she had thought was not true. Her sister would not have done such a thing. Although it would be easy to fix. The rest of the Canterlot nobles would surely want an explanation as to why Luna had put the moon up early. Cilestia only hoped that her sister had not returned to her old dire state of mind.
She slowed her pace as she approached the Lunar Goddess's private chambers. She walked slowly to the door careful as to not make a single sound. She leaned an ear against the door and was temporarily relieved when she heard the sounds of Luna's rather loud snoring.
She really didn't want to wake her peacefully sleeping sister, but felt that the issue she was facing was far more pressing than Luna's rest.
She quietly opened the door and poked her head in to see her sister lying not in her bed, but in a rather akward ball of blankets and pillows on the floor beside her bed.
"I guess you didn't notice when you rolled off the bed." Celestia chuckled as she moved toward the disheveled mass lying on the floor.
Luna woke with a loud snort which only aided in Celestia's laughter. Luna didn't remember falling asleep this way, but she honestly didn't care as it was rather comfortable.
"Is it time to raise the moon already Tia?" Luna asked trying to pry herself from the prison she had wrapped herself in.
"No actually," Celestia replied using her magic to aid in her sister's escape. "It appears that it has already been done."
Luna froze partway out of the blankets and looked straight at Celestia with a puzzled look, obviously still groggy from her recent slumber. "Umm...could you repeat that? It sounded as if you said that the moon was allready up."
"That is exactly what I said. The moon has risen, but yet the sun hasn't completely set."
"But that is impossible!" Luna said rather loudly, now fully grasping the seriousness of what was going on. "Only I can raise and set the moon...well at least now anyways."
"That is precisely why I came to check on you. I wanted to make sure nothing had happened to you while you were asleep."
"We'll I'm quite fine I can assure you, but this is a little difficult to believe. You aren't trying to prank me, are you Tia?"
"I wouldn't dream of doing something like this." Celestia stated as she shot her sister a hurtful glance.
Luna noticed and immediately regretted accusing her older sister of such a thing as pranking. "I'm sorry Tia, it's just that this was not the best thing to hear when I wake up. Are you one hundred percent sure that the moon has risen?"
Celestia moved to leave the room, and right before entering the doorway, she looked back over her shoulder at her stumbling sister, " if you don't believe me Luna, then come see for yourself."
Luna looked toward her bedroom window, but could see nothing out of the ordinary. It was simply a peaceful sunset. At least it should have been, but Luna soon noticed that the sun was no longer setting but rising again.
Once she was freed, she quickly followed her sister into the hallway and was completely astonished to see that Cilestia was correct. The sun was rising again, but so was the moon.
Luna stood next to Celestia as they both looked out a window at the unfortunate event that was taking place before them.
Luna decided to try to pull the moon back down, and was preparing to do so when Celestia spoke up.
"Do not bother with it Lulu. I tried that once already while I waited for you." Celestia looked down at the floor with concern guising her usually bland face. "It just feels as if something is stopping me from reaching the sun."
Luna looked away and rubbed her chin in thought. "I can still try. It might just be something that only affects you."
Luna's horn light with her magical aura. However something felt off about her magic. It was as if her magic would get close but right before making contact with the moon, it would just stop as if hitting a wall. She would push more and more magic into her horn, but she could never make the connection between herself and the moon.
She eventually gave up with a long exhausted sigh. "I don't understand! How can I, the goddess of the moon itself, not be able to do my one and only duty?"
Celestia let out a long sigh as well seeing her sister's distress. "I'm not sure, but whatever it is, it's stopping both of us. Perhaps it is not us, but something else."
The sun and the moon were now touching on the edges as the two sisters travelled to the castle library where perhaps they could find information about the current state of the sky. Although they were immortal beings who have been alive for thousands of years, neither of them had ever come across something such as this.
They walked in silence on a bridge that crossed the land gap from the living quarters of the castle to the gigantic library, and were just about to enter the library's double doors when a familiar, but not at all welcome voice chimed in both of their ears."Where are my two favorite princesses headed off to at this hour of the morning?"
"Discord? Where are you hiding?" Celestia shouted, annoyed that the mismatched being had interrupted her deep thoughts. "Were you following us?"
"Eavesdropping? I would never dream of such a thing as spying on two benevolent beings who rule over all of equestria, and I'm up here for your information."
Discord had been lying in a bed on top of the library roof. He yawned when he waved down to the princesses, but raised an unamused eyebrow when he noticed that Celestia was grinning up at him, lacking the annoyed expression that her sister held strongly.
"I did not say eavesdropping Discord, I said following. Perhaps you should pay closer attention when you engage yourself in a conversation." Cilestia couldn't help but laugh a little to herself when Discord discovered that he had just blown his cover.
"Okay, okay you caught me Celery. I guess I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but realize that you two where quite distracted coming here and didn't even notice your guards trying to get your attention." Discord turned himself into a snake and slithered down the wall towards the bridge. Once he had positioned himself in between the princesses and the library door he quickly transformed back into his more typical multi-beast self. "I simply wish to know what is troubling you two, and offer you any assistance if i can."
"Well, you have probably already noticed that the sun and moon are not entirely cooperating with us at the moment, and we thought to come to the library to do some research, unless you know anything about this?" Luna was not pressing a shrunken discord against the wall witha hoof on either side of his neck, and was starring directly in to his eyes with the most accusatory gaze she could muster.
Discord turned from her eyes and looked at the sky. He was almost surprised when he saw that the moon was covering up an entire half of the sun. "I can not believe that you would accuse me of something that is impossible for me to do." He grew back to his normal size and promptly teleported behind both princess, escaping Luna's death stare.
"What do you mean it is impossible? While you ruled chaos over equestria the sun and moon would go trough insane changes." Cilestia said as she turned to face Discord.
"You see my dear princess, when I delivered chaos, I was never able to control the sun and moon, and I am still unable to. The chaos down here simply changed things up there." Discord said pointing up at the sky.
"But were you not in control of the clouds?" Luna said approaching her sister's side.
"Indeed I was, but clouds are a whole different matter. It just seemed like the chaos I created over the land, leaked up to the sun and moon." Discord looked up at the sky again, and was completely shocked when he saw that the moon was now completely blocking the sun's light. None of them had noticed the darkness while they were arguing. "I...think I know what the problem is." He continued scratching his chin.
"Do either of you remember your brother?" Discord asked shooting a sideways glance to both princesses. They were both stuck in completely confused states of mind. "Oh don't tell me you don't remember your own brother." He was now frowning completely annoyed by the possibility of the princesses forgetfulness.
"Actually it might not-" Discord was cut off as a loud electric blast sounded from the sun and moon. Instantly both orbs were surrounded in a large dark red electric field. "Eh....most certainly him."
"Who exactly are you referring to Discord?" Luna was now standing next to him, but with a look of genuine concern. It was probably the right move because it instantly banished any plans Discord had for prolonging the conversation with any plans for pushing the princesses further into annoyance.
"This is as much a surprise to me as it is for you two. To be honest I'm rather disappointed that you could forget a vital part of your own family, but...do either of you remember Solar?"
"Solar who discord? I remember no one with such a name." Celestia was now standing next to her sister, but was rather nervous to know more.
"Oh for the love of...your own flesh and blood brother? How could you possibly forget Solar Eclipse?!"
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. Chapter 3- The hunt begins
It only took about a day to travel back to Ponyville from Canterlot, although it wasn't too long of a trip, her mind still felt exhausted.
Twilight looked up into the sky. The sun and the moon were still sharing their forced embrace in the night sky. Twilight had been given her rather simple instructions, but was uncertain in how she would ever find this Solar Eclipse pony she was told of.
"Okay, so I can't use my magic too often, or Solar will begin to counter it with magic blocks and more powerful counterspells. I doubt I can overpower him, but i could try.
I have no idea what kind of magic he can use, but from what Luna told me he is most likely more powerful than me, and I can't ask my friends for help because Celestia wants to keep this a secret. I have no idea what he looks like, but somehow I'm just supposed to know him when I see him? Ugh....what have i gotten myself into."
Twilight decided that the best thing to do was to find a quiet place to organize her thoughts. Any other pony would say to go back to her library, but she knew spike would want to know what had happened, and she really didn't feel like being swamped by questions.
She figured that the best place to do so was in the fields overlooking Ponyville.
She reached the fields, and had just sat down when a bone-chilling cold wind forced its way past and around her body. She shivered as a long chill collapsed through her body starting at the tip of her horn, and traveling down until the tip of her tail finally shook it out of her body.
Twilight suddenly noticed that the world had become eerily quiet. Even though the field around her was quiet, there were still the occasional cricket and sounds of grass blowing in the wind. However, the wind that chilled Twilight to her core, hadn't made a single sound.
It wasn't soon after, that she felt like she wasn't alone after all. She lit her horn with a light spell and spun her head surveying the surrounding area, not really sure of what she would find. As she turned to look forward again she turned out her horn light, and began to hear faint mumbling.
She tried to ignore it but found it rather pointless as it grew in volume. She lifted her hooves to block out the sound, and it worked, until she discovered that it was coming from inside her head.
The volume of the mumbling continued to rise into loud moans and yelling. Soon she had to squeeze her eyes shut to try to stop the pain in her ears. The intensity of the sound new no bounds as it started to increase in pitch as well.
The pain was so intense, that Twilight had fallen over and began rolling around in the tall grass.
It was now a continuous ringing, and tears had started to fall from her eyes. It felt as if somepony had glued together five hundred knives and shoved them into her ears without mercy.
She was just about to pass out when the sound suddenly stopped. Replaced by a deep breathy chuckle. She opened her mouth to say something but found that no matter how had she tried she could not say a single thing.
"You are the one they sent after me? Oh this is too good. Don't worry about the speaking thing. It's just a temporary muting spell. I really don't want to hurt you Pricess Twilight Sparkle, but if you choose to chase after me, I will be forced to defend myself. I hope you understand, but my sister's have misinformed you. Please don't take this personally, but my powers top yours exponentially. I wouldn't want you to get hurt due to their negligence.
I will not reveal myself to you, but I'm sure you can assume who I am. You are quite intelligent after all. I just have one thing to tell you. You only know half of the story, through my sister's eyes. If you truly care to find out the truth, it will not be hard for you to find me. Just be sure not to try anything you will regret."
Twilight felt another gust if wind, but this one was very warm. She could still feel the presence of Solar, but she couldn't see him.
"How am I supposed to find you if I have no idea as to where you will be at any time of the...well...whenever?" Twilight said sitting back up.
"That is for me to know, and you to find-" Solar was cut off by a blood curdling scream that came from Ponyville.
Twilight instinctively lit her horn for a teleportation spell. She burst into a giant shiny lavender ball.
She was suddenly standing i front of her home when she heard another scream. "Somepony help me!"
Twilight recognized the voice but instead of being occupied by Pinkie Pie's standard bubbly personality, it was chocked in terror and desperation.
Twilight unfurled her wings and flew along ground level as quickly as she could to the source. She rounded a corner and collided head on into Pinkie's side. Both ponies were sent tumbling across the ground.
Twilight grunted from the collision and wobbly stood up to face Pinkie. "Pinkie...Pie.... what's wrong?!" She spurted out between breaths.
Pinkie Pie didn't respond, but Twilight quickly noticed that Pinkie was starring up into the sky. However she wasn't starring at the solar eclipse, but at Pound Cake who was carrying his sister Pumpkin cake dangerously close to a windmill, which Pumpkin cake was making spin rather quickly with her magic.
Twilight reacted instantly jumping into the sky and flapping her wings as hard as she could. Twilight was a few feet away from the twins when a blood red blur passed in front of her, and the twins were instantly gone. She stopped mid flight and starred at the windmill when reality hit her, and she started to look around speedily for the missing foals.
It wasn't until she looked back at Pinkie Pie, that she was completely shocked.
Standing in front of Pinkie Pie, with the two twins hanging for his mouth by their diapers, was a dark red alicorn. His horn was long and ended at a sharp tip. His mane and tail looked unkempt, and were black with a thick outlining of red.
His eyes were a deep blue like a cloudless sky on a summer day. His iris was the shape of a cats, and his ears ended at sharp tips.
To Twilight's surprise, he looked young, probably close to her age.
Her eyes inspected every inch of his body with curiosity, but stopped as they locked on to his cutie mark. A sun that was halfway covered by a moon.
"Here you go ma'am safe and sound." He said gently placing the Cake twins on the ground in front of Pinkie Pie.
"Oooooooh thank you thank you thank you thank you!" Pinkie Pie said wrapping the strange pony in a gigantic hug. He flinched away at first, but eventually returned the hug, with a big smile plastering his face.
Twilight decided to land and investigate further. She approached the hugging ponies quietly, but fliched when she accidentally kicked a rock across the ground.
The red pony's eyes flew open and smile dropped to a frown as he quickly broke the hug and backed away from Pinkie.
Twilight decided to press the pony into an interrogation. She quickly teleported to within inches of the dark red pony and continued pushing him backwards.
He matched her steps stride for stride, trying to keep her from getting any closer than she already was.
Twilight spoke first. "Your name is Solar Eclipse isn't it?"
"It is, b-but that's none of your business!" Solar said, trying to hold a tough physique, but failing horribly.
"It most certainly is, considering I'm supposed to hunt you down, and bring you to Celestia."
"P-please don't t-take me back there!" Solar said, as he had just backed himself against the wall of a building.
"And why shouldn't I? You are trying to take back the throne from Celestia and Luna!" Twilight was now even closer to him than before. She saw that he was now beginning to sweat.
"B-b-because I'm not. The whole eclipse thing was j-just a little reminder that I am still a-alive." Solar was no standing on his hind legs, pressing himself as hard as he could against the wall. He was desperately trying to avoid Twilight's eyes, but anywhere he looked, Twilight would follow his eyes with her own.
"What do you mean your not?" Twilight was now standing i front of him bracing herself against the wall, trapping Solar in the space between her hooves.
Solar was now slinking his was down to the ground. "I-I've changed! I don't want the throne! I just want to...to be l-loved again."
Twilight was completely and utterly shocked at what he said. She saw that he had closed his eyes, and tears were rolling down his cheeks. She quickly backed up and gave him some room. She instantly regretted doing so, because his horn quickly lit, and he teleported away within a second.
Twilight stood there, starring at the section of wall where Solar had once stood. "What the hell just happened?"
Chapter 4- A Morning To Remember
Solar Eclipse was enveloped in a large, red ball of light, and was subconsciously teleported back to his current home.
He was unaware that he had gone anywhere. He had lowered his head and shut his eyes before he revealed his heart to Twilight.
"I just want...to be loved again." Solar whispered, letting another tear roll down his cheek.
He opened his soaked eyes and looked around to see the familiar dark cave walls surrounding him. "Finally...away from that crazy bitch."
Solar rose to his hooves and proceeded to walk to the entrance of his lair.
Nothing had changed since he had left. The cave still smelled like pond water. It was still dark inside, but he figured that was his doing anyways. The floor was still damp, and water still dropped from the ceiling.
He sighed when he reached the mouth of his home. Looking out, he still felt saddened by the peacefulness of his sisters' kingdom. They didn't deserve it...well...Celestia didn't deserve it anyways.
The Eclipse was still sitting high in the sky. Solar could see that Canterlot was still mostly quiet. Ponyville was the same, but looking at the town brought back the intense thought of Princess Twilight Sparkle.
"If she was the one that Celestia sent to find me....I'm not in a good situation to repair my public image." Solar decided that it must have been night time because he yawned loudly and felt rather exhausted, both physically, and emotionally.
Since he had no money whatsoever, Solar had to sleep on the floor of the cave. More specifically, wherever the floor was the driest.
He quickly checked around to find that the driest place to lay down was the same spot as always; a little rise in the floor about five feet to the left of the entrance.
He got comfortable in his favorite sleeping position and quickly dozed off.
He woke up in his cave, but something seemed different. There was a large amount of light flooding in through the entrance. He quickly jumped up and galloped to the entranceway.
Instead of seeing the expected solar eclipse in the sky, Solar instead saw the sun. However, the sun was not in the sky, but resting firmly in front of the cave, shinning its light directly inside.
Solar gasped and blinked his eyes trying to adjust to the new blinding light. It was pointless, because every time he opened his eyes the light would grow brighter.
The only thing he could do was put a hoof over his eyes, and try to escape the sun's rays.
He began to move out of the way when a horrifyingly familiar voice boomed from the clouds. " Where do you think you are going!?"
"No! Nonononononononoooooo! How did you find me?!" Solar yelled, falling down in an attempt to force himself away from Celestia.
"It's easy to find a waste of life like you, when you so foolishly reveal yourself to a fellow Princess. All I had to do was track your magic, and it led me to this pitiful hideout you seem to have here." Celesta stepped out of the sun, and into the cave.
"NO! You couldn't have found me! I protect all of my magic in a concealing spell..." Solar was now pawing furiously at the cave floor to create any amount of distance between him and Celestia.
"I know, but it appears you are not the only one to improve your magic."
Celestia made one giant flap with her wings and was instantly standing over top of the now shaking Solar Eclipse. "What ever is the matter Solar? Afraid of your little sister now?" Celestia snickered.
Every word slapped Solar's mind with a ferocity close to a starving tiger. "N-n-no...I-I'll never b-be af-f-fraid of you."
Solar had closed his eyes, and was trying to make himself into the smallest ball he could. Celestia took advantage of this, and drew in a big breath of air, only to lower her head and blow it out across Solar's muzzle.
Solar whimpered loudly, and shook harder that he ever had before. This caused Celestia to laugh ferociously. Tears began to form in his eyes again, when another familiar voice shouted from behind Celestia.
"Leave him be!" Luna yelled before her horn lit with her blue magical aura. She quickly shot a ball of energy at Celestia who only stood still, completely unable to move.
The ball slammed into Celestia's side, pushing her off of Solar, and into the far wall, where she quickly blew up into a mass of white clouds and sparkles.
Luna trotted across the cave floor to look at her brother. His eyes were open, but his irises had shrunken to the size of pin points, and he was starring straight ahead while more tears filled his eyes.
He had his forelegs wrapped up over his head, covering his ears, and his hind legs where pushed tightly up against his chest. He was shaking so hard, he could have started an earthquake, and he was mumbling under his breath.
"Oh my poor Solar, what did she do to you?" Luna said sitting down next to him.
She began to pet his mane, and he squealed, pushing himself away. Luna moved herself closer, "It is okay now Solar, she is gone. She can not hurt you any more."
Solar, still in his horrific state looked up quickly to see Luna's warm smile. It did little to help him, as he once again looked away. This time however, Luna was allowed to stroke his mane, as he didn't scoot away.
Luna continued to pet his mane. He eventually stopped mumbling, but was now crying hysterically. Luna picked him up into a sitting position. It was worse than she thought. His fur was wet and matter from tears. He was dirty, and smelled musky.
Even though he was still trembling an crying, he had enough power to lunge at Luna, and wrap her in a massive hug. She was surprised, but quickly returned it with love and kindness.
He began to cry harder. Solar was much larger than Luna, but smaller than Celestia. She struggled to support his weight, and eventually had to release him.
"Solar, I love you and will never hurt you. I was the one who sent Twilight after you, and I see now that doing so what a huge mistake. Now that I see your condition, I feel that she can be persuaded to help you."
Solar opened his eyes and looked at Luna still quite upset, but mostly recovered from the hug. "Do...do you really still love me?"
"Of course I do. However, there is not much I can do for your cause."
"If you still love me, why did you send her after me?!"
"I was forced to. I wouldn't have done it if I did not have Celestia breathing down my neck all the time. However, I think she could help you."
"Help me how?"
"I know Twilight, and I truly believe that if you explain what happened those many years ago, she will help."
"If you are one hundred percent sure, than I will try it."
"I am. Now listen Solar, I have to leave now. When you wake up you will be alone again, but just remember to talk to Twilight."
"Wait...what?! That was a dream?" Solar exclaimed while rubbing his eyes.
"Of course it is." Luna was fading out out of sight, and Solar began to panic.
"Wait! Don't leave me here alone!" Solar suddenly felt extremely tired, and collapsed on the floor.
He woke up to a much more pleasing environment. The cave was wet, dark, and stunk. Solar looked around his home, examining his surroundings. Seeing that nothing was out of place, he sighed, and cried again.
Author's Note
So this is my first AN. I just wanted to apologize for taking so long to upload chapter four. I was just hitting road blocks constantly. If any of you want to know what Solar Eclipse looks like, he is my avatar. I would like anyone who is following this story to let me know, because I would like to know what you all think so far, and what you think of how the story is progressing. Also if I made mistakes and stuff like that too. If none of you know this is my first FIMfiction so yay. Thanks a bunch for reading! :D
Chapter 5- Searching For Help
Twilight Sparkle had been trying to digest what had happened the previous night. She had been reorganizing the library's books, which usually helped clear her mind, but this time, it just wouldn't be enough of a distraction. She forfeited to her curious mind.
"He supposedly wants to take back the throne from Celestia and Luna, but he said that he didn't. Even if he does, he broke down pretty quickly under pressure. He's nowhere near strong enough to challenge Celestia."
Twilight climbed down off of the ladder she had been standing on and gathered another mismatched pile of books with her magic, carrying them over to a lower shelf. "Plus, he said about being loved again, and if that's true, why would he steal the throne? Ponies all over Equestria would come to hate and despise him."
Twilight let out a long sigh, feeling defeated in her mind. "Unless he truly isn't trying to steal the throne. If that were the case, why would Celestia send me after him?"
Twilight had placed the pile of books in the correct order on the shelf, and walked over to the door. "Ugh...I need to dig for more information." She looked back, and frowned seeing that she was only half done organizing, but she felt that she had to deal with the questions first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Solar Eclipse woke to the sounds of multiple birds chirping outside of his cave home. He stood lazily, and drug his tired body to the mouth to start the day.
He opened his mouth above him to collect the water that dropped from the roof of the cave. It wasn't the most sanitary thing to do, but he desperately hated the bad taste in his mouth in the mornings.
He spat the water out onto the floor once he had gathered enough, and given his head a vigorous rattle. "Hmmm...Luna said that Twilight Sparkle can help me in my cause. If she honestly thinks that she can help...I suppose it can't hurt to try." He stepped out of his home onto the rocky outcropping that acted as a porch. "I jus have noooo idea as to how to get her to become an ally."
He decided the best thing to do was to search for her in the last place he had seen her. Ponyville.
He looked down to the quiet town. There wasn't much activity from what he could see from the mountains. He expected as much, and decided that closer investigation was necessary.
He couldn't just rush in though, Twilight had seen him now, and that awkward pink pony would surely recognize him. He had to go stealthily. It wouldn't be to difficult, he would just cloak himself like he did when he first met Twilight.
He lit his horn, and a bright red magical aura surrounded his body, and within seconds his horn began to vanish, followed by his head, neck, and body.
He was completely invisible. It was never an easy magical spell to preform, and always called for complete focus. It was also common that most alicorns used it or at least new about it. Twilight new about it, but never saw a true reason to learn it. However during his reign, Solar had altered the spell so that he could phase through solid objects, such as walls, doors, and even other living beings.
The only downside was that in order to actually touch something than the ground or floor, he had to deactivate the spell. Which, evidently, caused him to accidentally reveal himself to Twilight, so that he could save the two crazy twin foals.
He opened his wings, and made one giant leap into the air, but instead of flapping them to fly higher, he held them straight out, and angled down into a dive.
His cave was and decent distance from the ground, and he had enough space to get a gigantic gravity assisted speed boost, before he would pull up, just before colliding with the ground. He had an insane speed multiplier at his doorstep.
He blasted through the sky towards Ponyville. He was traveling so fast that it could rival Rainbow Dash at top speeds. He was about a mile out of Ponyville when he decided to start his climb.
He angled up, and used his excess speed to get as high as he could before he had to start pushing to keep from stalling. He had to have been a few hundred feet above Ponyville now. He could cross the entire town with his eyes without even turning his head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Twilight wasn't really sure where, or who to go to for help. She was ordered to keep the whole thing surrounding Solar Eclipse a secret.
"I suppose since Pinkie Pie has already met him, she might be able to help a little..." Twilight said walking through Ponyville. She walked past the windmill she had been at last night, and approached the entrance to Sugarcube Corner. She walked inside the bakery, and looked over to the counter.
Mrs. Cake was messing with the cash register, and hadn't noticed Twilight walk in. She felt like somepony was watching her, and when she looked up she noticed Twilight.
"Why hello there Twilight!" Mrs. Cake said with the welcoming smile she always had for any customers. "I'm sorry Princess, but...the cash register doesn't seem to be cooperating today, but for you, anything is on the house!"
"Gee thanks Mrs. Cake," Twilight said walking up to the counter,"but you really don't have to do that for me just because I'm a princess now, and I didn't come to buy anything. I'd actually like to talk to Pinkie Pie about what happened last night."
"Oh riiiiiight...that...well she should be upstairs in her room, and she might have a few questions for you two. She kept asking me why you were so mean to that 'nice and wonderful' new alicorn. I don't want to know why, or what happened. That's for you two to figure out. Now if you will excuse me. I have a problem to solve."
Mrs. Cake went right back to messing with the cash register.
"Umm...okay then." Twilight said walking around the counter, and over to the stairway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Solar had passed over Ponyville seven times, and was deciding to turn back, when on his eighth pass, he saw a suspiciously familiar, lavender colored pony walk passed the windmill that he had recognized on his first flyby.
He stopped to hover for closer examination, and soon realized that the lavender pony was indeed, Twilight Sparkle.
He closed his wings so that they were tight against his body. He fell head first into a quick dive. Once he was one hundred feet from the ground, he opened his wings and spread them out wide for an air brake. At fifty feet he leveled out some so that he increased the distance he had to slow down. At twenty five feet, he spread his legs wide to prepare for a landing. Finally at ten feet he flapped his wings, and floated gently down to the ground.
He checked quickly to make sure that he had not shut off his cloaking spell. Seeing that he was still completely invisible, he made his way towards Sugarcube Corner.
He walked into the little store and saw that it seemed to be a rather successful bakery. The shelves behind the counter were lined with cakes, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, and all kinds of sweets anypony could ask for. That was not what interested him though.
What caught his attention was the tail of Twilight Sparkle heading up the stairway behind the counter. He quickly moved through the counter, and passed a pony he had not noticed before.
He approached the stairway and looked up to see Twilight climbing the final step into what looked to be a hallway. Solar opened his wings, and in one giant thrust was launched to the top of the stairs, and was now standing a few feet behind Twilight.
He wanted to open his mouth, to speak out and let her now he was there, but he chose against it when she knocked on somepony's door.
Author's Note
Sorry about this chapter being another short one. X(
I was really hoping that it would be about 500 words longer, but meh...I guess I write too fast.
Just like last time let me know if I made any editing mistakes, if you think the story is going too fast or slow, what you think so far, etc.
Tanks for reading :D
Chapter 6- The Morning After
Princess Luna's horn stopped glowing as she opened her eyes. She was sitting in her dream room, lying upon the large cushion that was raised above the floor.
The cushion was positioned in the center of a completely blackened, tiny room, with a few specks of white light shinning from the walls. There were no windows, and only one entrance, which was a thick steel door at one end of the completely circular room.
Luna's dream room was the only place she could go, and actually have enough peace and quiet, to meditate so that she could visit pony's dreams and stop their nightmares.
She had visited many dreams that night. The last one being a little filly's dream about an all candy world. However, it was not the most memorable.
During the middle of night, she had came across the nightmare of her brother Solar Eclipse.
It was not unusual for alicorns to have nightmares, but this one was exceptionally worrying. She had arrived in her brother's dream where she was standing at the entrance of a rather small cave. Directly behind her was the sun. Being inches from her tail, it gave off no heat, but did force out quite a substantial mount of light. She could find no real subsequent meaning for this and chose to look around for answers.
Inside the cave she could see the back end of Celestia, as her sister stood over a cowering Solar.
Luna was thrown off at first, as to why her sister would bring so much fear to a pony, let alone a family member. She didn't want to interact, simply to investigate the dream into further detail, but at the rate the nightmare was increasing, it was her duty to stop it.
She remembered vanquishing the evil Celestia from the dreamscape. She also remembered approaching Solar, who at the time was a complete and utter mess, shaking on the floor. She remembered consoling him, so that she could hold a reasonable conversation with him. She also remembered saying something about how Twilight sparkle could help in his cause.
As far as Luna knew, Solar Eclipse was there to take back the throne from her and her sister. Why would she recommend a fellow allicorn, to help steal a throne?
Luna stood up, stretching her entire body from head to hoof. She needed to think, but not here. Even though it was Luna's own private room, off limits to everypony else, she felt that she always thought best while outdoors.
She slowly stepped off of the raised pedestal, and looked one last time around her room. The few tiny white specks on the wall, that resembled the stars, were all slowly rotating off of the wall, and disappearing once they touched the floor.
Luna didn't know why, but she somehow enjoyed watching the stars fall from the wall to signify the coming day. Even though the sun and moon were still locked in the sky in their not-so- warming embrace, Luna was still able to tell what time it was outside.
She turned to the large steel door that secluded her from the external world, and slowly pulled it open, allowing the dime outside light to pour in through the doorway.
She poked her head outside and squinted her eyes as the light pierced her retenea. She blinked her eyes quickly so that she could adjust.
The guards on both sides o the door had noticed her appearance, but had been rather highly suggested to, that bothering Luna the moment she came out of the dream room was not the best thing to do.
Whether she had to do any serious nightmare stopping or not, Luna always seemed to feel irritated and annoyed whenever she left her room, but that didn't stop her this morning.
Once she had fully adjusted to the environment outside the dream room, she quickly shut the door and proceeded down the hallway toward the gardens. Leaving the guards behind her, in silent questioning.
She travelled through the unending halls and rooms of the Canterlot Palace. The palace was almost always empty, save for the few yearly events that actually brought ponies inside for some other reason than politics, or to have a council with one of the princesses.
Luna strolled past Princess Celestia's room, and paused to look at the door, hoping to see her sister finally leave her self afflicted prison. It had been almost two days now and Princess Celestia still hadn't come out of her room since she stormed out on the meeting with Twilight.
Growing desperate, Luna stepped toward the door and placed her horn against it to rest her neck. "Tia," Luna shut her eyes to focus on her speech. "I wish that you would come out of there and at least speak to somepony."
"..."
Silence was all that Luna could hear from the inside of the room. That was all she ever heard. She was truly worried about her sister, she had never locked herself away for this long before. Celestia was always the more social pony of the two. Luna preferred to be left alone, but she knew that Celestia couldn't go an hour without at least saying something to somepony, except when she was sleeping.
Luna sighed and turned away from the door, still hoping that it would open and she could see her sister emerge, but it didn't happen, so she continued on her journey.
After a few more halls and flights of stairs, Luna was finally at the glass doors that let out into the palace gardens. She was used to the brilliant plants of all shapes and colors. The beautiful trees that stood tall and proud, and provided all sorts of shade at just the right places in the paths. However she certainly was not used to seeing Discord, sitting on one of the benches that looked out over Canterlot.
She opened the door and inhaled heavily, as the scent of so many flowers and plants blasted through her nose with heavenly ferocity. She always loved the smell of Evening Primrose, and even though it wasn't visible, and probably beginning to close its pedals, she could still smell it's scent over all of the other flowers.
Discord hadn't noticed her open and close the glass doors while she entered. It appeared that he was deep in thought because he was slumped over and resting his head on his arm, while holding a rather far away look on his eyes.
Luna took a few steps down the path, gazing around at the flowers and treetops, but also taking careful glances at Discord as she approached him from up the path.
She was less than seven feet behind him, when he suddenly blurted out, "Not out of her room yet hmm?"
Luna realizing she was spotted, moved around to the front side of the bench and took a cautious seat next to him.
She looked out over the partially lit city of Canterlot. The city seemed unnervingly quiet. Usually the city was rather loud and bustling with activity. But on this occasion, the streets were considerably empty, and just as before, eerily quiet.
"No...she hasn't. I truly am beginning to worry. She never stays hidden away this long." Luna sighed and looked up at the solar eclipse in the sky. "I'm not certain, but I feel that this situation with Solar Eclipse is affecting me on a personal level."
"Why is that?" Discord asked, looking to Luna and raising an eyebrow.
"Well... I'm not sure. I just feel like everyone is acting different because of the return of my forgotten brother."
"There are reasons for all of this Luna. Some of it I know, but most of it I'm still unsure."
"Well, what do you know then? I need to know what's going on here or I fear that I may end up like my sister."
"What do you want to know then, Luna?" Discord asked rising from his seat, and walking to the edge of the garden.
"Okay. First off, I want to know why my sister is acting the way she is. I also want to know why the sun and moon are overlapping like they are, and lastly...I'd like to know...why Solar wants to take back the throne. Most of all, why I suggested to him that Twilight Sparkle would help him."
"To start off," Discord said looking at the sun and moon, "this is called a solar eclipse, which is the same name your parents gave to your brother Solar Eclipse. He posses the power to move the sun and the moon at the same time. When he was young, he would create solar eclipses for weeks at a time, and the nobles decided to strip him of his rule over Equestria.
Secondly, your sister is acting the way she is, not because she is confused, but that she is quite enraged that Solar returned, and possibly that he is alive at all.
As for the throne, that is not true whatsoever. I know Solar more than anypony in Equestria, and I can tell you that as a matter of fact, Solar does NOT want to steal the throne from you or Celestia. He is simply here to refortify his presence in Equestria, and regain the love of the ponies, that was stripped of him that so many years ago.
As for suggesting Twilight's help to him, I can not honestly say why you would do it. Perhaps a deep part of you knew that he would not truly want to strip you and Celestia of your rule. Suggesting Twilight to help him may just have been an act to get him to open up to you."
Discord looked at Luna, who held a rather concerning look on her face. "Wha...what did you say about Celestia being mad that he's alive? He's our flesh and blood brother! Even if he was thought to be taking the throne, he is still family."
Discord frowned and walked around the bench a past Luna. "Perhaps you should ask him."
Luna turned to face Discord so that she could continue the conversation, but he was gone.
Luna looked around her. Discord had completely left the area. She sighed and lowered her head, closing her eyes. "Why does everypony have to be so crazy all of the sudden."
Author's Note
Sorry about this chapter taking so long to put up, but I had a weekend break, and school finals have been putting pressure down, so I had to shift my focus for a few days. Hope you all understand :)
I did take more time to right this one out, and I let go of the accelerator a little. If you think I did the right thing I'd love to know. I'd also like you wonderful readers to let me know what you think of the story and how it's progressing. I'm starting to feel like people don't care about the story because the only comment i received was on the first chapter due to a spelling mistake. I do love constructive criticism. I want to make this story the best it can be, even if it's not popular.
If anyone is continuously reading the new chapters as i update them, let me know how you feel about the way the story has progressed.
Thanks a bunch to all of you! And thanks for reading. :D
Chapter 7- A Gray Sky
Luna stood in front of the wooden table that held every spell book she could find, pertaining to dream location spells.
Luna had gone to the palace library, in hopes of finding any possible way to locate her brother. She truly did want to ask him what he was doing, and why Celestia would be unhappy about him being alive.
The spells acted like echolocation. The spell she liked the most out of the three she found, sent a magical wave from the caster's horn, through the dream realm, into the pony's head that the dream existed with, into the pony's real life body, ping the location of the body, and travel all the way back, into the casters horn, and reveal the pony's location to them.
The only problem was, each dream comes and goes at will, and Luna never knows when she will be moved to a different dream. This also caused complications, due to the fact that the spell she chose, took quite a large amount of time to perform, and complete.
She would most likely only have about a five minute time window to perform the spell and locate Solar Eclipse.
She memorized the spell slowly, making sure to pick out every detail. Seeing as it took almost an entire day's time to find all of the appropriate spell books, followed by finding the most fitting spell, Luna decided to head back to her dream room early. She could also tell night was coming by the fact that she just felt plain tired.
She entered her dream room, and slowly closed the massive steel door behind her. She quickly strode up to, and onto her cushioned pedestal. Turning back around to face the door, she waited.
Waiting was always the most difficult part, not that Luna didn't have patience, but that some of her duties lied in the dream realm, and she often felt that she was slacking off at her job if she waited too long.
Exactly twenty minuets after she had lied down, all of the little white lights that were once invisible, suddenly shot out into the rooms walls. Flying in all different directions, the stars travelled to their final destinations for the night, and stopped, to occupy their own special position.
Luna sighed in relief, and shut her eyes. It was not difficult for Luna to enter the dream realm, it just took immense concentration. Being that the room was silent, she got to work immediately. She quickly emptied her mind of all, and any wandering thoughts, and focused a tiny constant stream of magic into her horn so that it was constantly filled with magic, without her having to direct it in her mind.
Now, she waited for that special feeling she got, whenever she entered the dream realm. It didn't take long, as Luna soon felt a prickly-warm sensation flood over her body from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail.
Now she just had to wait for the dreams to pick her up as her conscious floated around the dreams that occupied her nightly realm.
Unlike Celestia's astral plain, Luna was not capable of walking through it, or opening her eyes until she knew she was in a dream.
She entered a couple dreams, one of a pony who's crush fell in love with them. One of a filly leaving school permanently to go on top secret missions. And oddly enough, that same dream of a candy built world.
She then flew into a dream with a rather loud gust of wind. She could feel wind flowing through her mane and tail, and the sensation of grass on her hooves. She proceeded to open her eyes.
To her surprise, she was standing at the edge of a cliff, a rather tall one at that. She could see that the sky was filled with gray clouds, with the sun just barely peeking through one spot, casting a peaceful orange glow across all of the area around her.
The ground around her for miles was covered in tall yellow grass. What caught her attention was the one and only tree that she could see, resting in the middle of a field, directly in front of her, a little more that three hundred yards from the base of the cliff.
Most of all, underneath that tree, lying in the shade, was Solar Eclipse.
She quickly got to work starting the echolocation spell, as she flew off the cliff and down toward Solar Eclipse. To Luna's optimistic surprise, Solar genuinely looked happy. He had a small smile, and his eyes were peacefully closed. His head was tilted toward the sun, which was directly in front of him, hidden by clouds in the sky.
It almost seemed as if the sun's rays were washing over him, but instead of filling him with fear, they filled him with peace, and tranquility.
Luna had landed in the grass beside her brother.
"Hello, Luna." Solar said calmly without bothering to open an eye.
"H-how did you...know it was me?" Luna said, lying down closely to her brother.
"Who else would enter into my dream without me knowing."
"So I take it you are having quite the lucid dream then?" Luna asked, forming a gentle smile on her face.
For the first time sense Luna had arrived, Solar opened his eyes and quickly looked around at their surroundings. "It does appear that way, doesn't it?"
"It appears so..." Luna responded.
The time came for her to start the spell. She focused the spell in her mind, and started flow in her horn. Just as she had begun she noticed that Solar's eyes had shot open wide, but he was not staring at anything particular.
Solar looked directly at his younger sister, and his bottom eyelid on his right eye twitched wildly. "L-L-Luna...w-what did you just d-d-d-do?" Solar asked rather calmly.
"Um...what do you mean?" Luna responded, trying to convince Solar with a rather sheepish smile.
"You cast a location spell on me didn't you?" Solar said, eyes returning to normal size, but still twitching.
Luna was dumbfounded. How could he have known what she had cast on him? There was no possible way.
"How...do you know I did that spell?
"It is my dream you are messing with, so most anything you would cast on me, I would feel. But that," Solar exclaimed pointing at Luna's horn, "was really noticeable. Plus, it hit me like a rock to my head."
Luna blushed a little at being caught. "I just wanted to know where you were so I could ask you some questions, and talk a little."
"Luna that's great! I'd love to talk a little. However, I am already meeting Twilight tomorrow. I followed her to one of her friends houses, and they discussed my presence, even though I was invisible. Once Twilight left, I approached her, and asked if she wanted to talk to me, or ask questions. Just like you do too apaerently."
"Well, how will I know where you are?"
"Your spell should be coming back any second now."
Right after Solar had finished his sentence, Luna received an audible ping from her horn. Her eyes lit up, and she jumped up quickly, wrapping the still lying Solar Eclipse in a large hug. "Thank you Solar. I will see you tomorrow."
Luna walked away from her brother, who continued to look at the sky, now slightly less gray. She finally had the oppertunity to receive the answers to her gnawing questions. Luna could not have been happier, and by the looks of it, neither could Solar Eclipse.
Author's Note
I know this is an exceptionally short chapter, and I honestly have no excuses. This was just a difficult chapter to write, because I didn't want to advance the Luna section of the story faster that me Solar Eclipse Twilight part. I am also still trying to slow down my writing, and add more description and emotion, which I realize I lack some of. Also I'm trying to stop having so many run-on sentences. Those are just some of the problems that I have notices and am trying to improve upon. If you notice any other major, concerning issues, let me know please.
Also like normal now, let me know what you all think on how the story is progressing. Im also going to ask about what you think of my original character, and his personality and traits. I am aware that he doesn't have much of a personality as of get, but I am working within a certain situation. Also about the other characters and their developments.
Thanks for reading :D
Chapter 9 - Explanations and Understandings
Twilight could not fathom what she had just heard. She was now forced to swallow the news that her once great magical teacher, was now a heartless monster.
Twilight didn't want to believe Solar Eclipse's story. She couldn't, because there were just too many questions, and contradictions in his story.
"Wait wait wait...so, Celestia held you in the dungeon for one hundred years, and Luna never noticed? How could she not be aware of your disappearance, when you said she was one of the few friends you had, besides Discord that is. Plus, how was Discord your magic tutor, sense he used to be a major threat to Equestria? And if all of this happened, and you 'claim' Celestia wiped your memory, how in Tartarus did you get your memory back?!"
Solar Eclipse looked up from the fire he had been watching while recalling his life, and noticed that Twilight was breathing heavily. He supposed that was from the news about Celestia, but he chose not to push his boundaries.
"Calm down, Twilight. I supposed my history wasn't exactly completed. Besides, some of those questions should be asked of a different pony." Solar said, waving his hoof for exaggeration, followed be a long stare at Luna, who was also looking into the flames of the roaring fire.
Luna was lost in her own world of thought, so much so that she hadn't even realized the discussion had started up again. She only realized that something was wrong, when she felt like she was being watched. She turned her gaze from the fire to the direction of the stare, and locked eyes with Solar.
The cave around them was pitch black now, but the fire still lit up the parts of them that faced the flames. Luna opened her mouth to speak, but was stopped by a lump in her throat when she saw the face of her brother, eyes reflecting blue light into her eyes.
To any other pony, Solar would have looked totally calm, and content in his current state, but Luna saw a whole different situation. His eyes, they were powered by sadness, and filled with sorrow. His entire being was pleading for redemption from the terror and fear, he felt deep inside every day. His eyes being locked with Luna's, poured every emotion that he held deep within his mind, directly into hers.
Luna could feel tears forming in her eyes, but she quickly closed them and turned her face back towards the fire. She felt so horrible for not being there for her brother whom she had loved with all of her heart, but at the time she was too busy with reestablishing her and Celestia's rule, to even realize his disappearance.
Luna was completely overwhelmed with guilt. She opened her eyes to speak, permitting a few tears to roll down her cheeks. "I...I don't know what happened. I was so busy with repairing the kingdom that I hadn't noticed your disappearance. If I had known what was happening, I would have stopped Celestia. Torturing is one of the highest crimes in Equestria, next to murder. However, the punishment is more severe for nobility, but...the punishment is royal execution." Luna sighed and looked at Solar again. "I know now what has to be done, but I also realize that, she had to have done it without anypony knowing at all, otherwise she would have been caught long ago."
Twilight gasped,"b-but, do...do we...how do we know he's telling the truth?"
Twilight was switching glances between both Luna and Solar, waiting for one of them to respond. Neither of them said anything to answer. However, Twilight's fears were confirmed when she looked back to Luna for the fifth time, and flinched, when she locked eyes with Luna, who looked like an emotional war was going on inside of her, but her face portrayed nothing but utter sadness.
Twilight sighed, "so you believe him then."
Luna slowly nodded, never taking her eyes from Twilight's.
"Okay then. I suppose it does make sense, but...I still want my questions answered." Twilight finished looking to Solar Eclipse.
"I do owe you that much." Solar responded. He looked back into the flames of the fire."The only reason I was able to make it back to Equestria, was because Discord had somehow managed to learn of my banishment. As to why he was my magic tutor, Discord was a nice being. Believe it or not, he was highly respected among the Canterlot nobility, and also highly regarded as one of the most magic prevalent beings in Equestria.
Being my tutor, and one of my closest friends, he quickly rushed to find me. He told me that he found me sitting in the middle of the badlands, staring at the ground. He tired to talk to me, and ask me questions, but he said that I had complete amnesia, and could not recall a second of my life.
Discord was extremely furious about what had transpired between me and Celestia, and devised a plan to punish her, but only after I was back inside the Equestrian border. During our travel back, he gave me an updated map of Equestria, and helped me increase my powers so that I could face Celestia. I would ask him everyday if he thought I was ready, and every day he would tell me I'd know when the time came. After two years of roaming Equestria, Discord went off to start his plan, only to never return to me. I later found out that he attacked Canterlot, and took control of Equestria for a time.
Being alone to wander Equestria was horrifying. I didn't sleep for months. I was so afraid of finding Celestia around every corner, or right over the next hill. One night I was so horrified of being alone that I slept in a barn with chickens and pigs. Apparently I made a lot of noise, because the caretaker came out in the middle of the night, and said she found me shivering, and holding myself. She was so nice to me, that she spent the entire night in the barn with me, keeping me company.
It was the first real compassion that had been given to me for over one hundred years before then. It gave me a new outlook. I didn't need the kingdom to have ponies love me, I just needed friends, who were understanding. I lived with the farmer until she died forty years later. She actually gave me the deed to her home, and I cloaked it with an invisibility ward. I was free to live for one thousand years, all while making friends in towns, and increasing my magical ability. Eventually I was able to sleep again, but only while having nightmares.
After a few hundred years the nightmares stopped, and I was comfortable with my solitude. Only last year did I decide that I was ready to face Celestia again. Nothing major happened, to tell me I was ready, which makes me question Discords suggestion. However, once I found this cave, I could see Canterlot, and it brought back the nightmares and loneliness. One day I decided to cloak myself and visit Canterlot.
I actually made it a decent way into Canterlot, before I accidentally entered the castle and got lost. I ended up in Celestia's bedroom. I was looking around when she entered, so I hid. She eventually went to sleep, but I decided to pay her back the sleepless nights by keeping her awake.
My confidence also increased substantially , so I eventually started my return by creating the solar eclipse in the sky."
Solar finished his second story telling session, looking to Twilight, for any indication as to how she felt. Twilight was expressionless, simply copying the duo before her, and looking into the fire while she tried to organize her thoughts and emotions.
Luna was the first to speak. "So now you are here to make friends, and be loved again like you were those many years ago."
"Exactly, there is no throne stealing involved." Solar replied.
"But Celestia needs to be punished, and your story needs to be brought to the attention of the nobles." Twilight added.
"If only that didn't include a royal execution." Luna sighed.
"I think she deserves it." Twilight said quickly.
Both Solar and Luna looked at Twilight in pure shock.
"Well, she obviously doesn't deserve to rule from the simple fact that she almost killed you to get your powers, for her own selfish needs. Plus, like you said Luna, torture is punishable by death, and if Celestia has taught me anything, its that actions have consistencies. I think we should make her eat her words." Twilight said, stomping her hoof on the solid cave floor.
"I expected you to jump to the defense of your teacher, Twilight." Solar said, still staring at Twilight.
Twilight stood and looked directly into Solar's eyes. "Anypony heartless, and cruel enough to almost murder their own flesh and blood brother, simply to absorb their power for their own selfish greed, is no pony I want to be associated with, and is the most evil possible pony in the world, in my book." Twilight looked back into the fire. "Celestia has to die."
Author's Note
I hate to say this, but I have come to the general conclusion, that no one is really interested in this story, but I don't blame anyone. It honestly is bad. I have been reading a ton of other fimfiction stories, and mine is just bad. The emotional description and attachments just aren't there, but I don't know how to do it better. I am really bad with description of characters and settings. I don't put enough detail into things that I should. I have tried to fix these issues before, and I just don't know how.
Also a lack of any feedback whatsoever has been extremely demotivating. I do want this story to evolve into a trilogy, but if it doesn't turn out good in the end, I'm just going to scrap the whole idea. It is fun writing, but I see no point in writing something no one is interested in.
The rest of the story is gonna go how it goes, I have two paths i could take to end it, one being extremely short and the other being rather long. I will decided soon as to what I will do. Heck, I'm not even sure if anyone reads these author notes i leave.
Oh well, this will probably be the last AN i make.
Chapter 10 - Welcome To Ponyville
Twilight led Solar through Ponyville towards the Golden Oaks Library. She felt bad about leaving him alone in the mountains outside of Ponyville, so she chose to offer him a home, to which he gratefully accepted.
Luna had gone back to Canterlot to do some investigating into the time frame while Solar Eclipse claimed he was in prison and tortured, so that she could prove his story when the time came.
As for Twilight, she was still unsure deep down, but she knew that she had to bring Solar out of hiding, and make his presence known to Equestria. She also knew that she would need to inform Princess Cadence of this matter, along with her friends.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Solar clearing his throat next to her. He was passing her a sideways glance, but soon averted his gaze to take in the surrounding library.
"Welcome to the Golden Oaks Library, Solar. Make yourself at home. I'll have to find some place for you to sleep, but-" Twilight was cut off by the familiar sound of a rainbow maned pegasus crashing onto the upstairs balcony. "Hold on just a moment." Twilight said while heading off for the stairs. She turned around quickly, "and feel free to look around."
Twilight headed for the stairs, and hurried up, knowing that, although highly unlikely, Rainbow Dash could be hurt. This was quickly answered as she reached the door to the upper level of the library, and was slammed in the face by the thick wooden door.
Twilight wrapped her forelegs around her face, after falling on her haunches. Rainbow Dash shot out of the door way, and tripped over Twilight as she ran down the stairs.
Rainbow Dash collapsed at the bottom of the stairway, in a congealed mass of cyan fur and feathers. Twilight was finally able to stand up. "Rainbow Dash! Why did you crash onto my balcony, and then proceed to hit me in the face with a door?"
Rainbow Dash moaned, and untangled herself. Standing up, she turned to face Twilight, who now had a black eye. "I'm sorry, Twilight, I really am, but I saw some weird pony I've never seen before follow you in here, and I thought you might be in trouble." Rainbow dash looked around.
She quickly found a rather timid looking pony standing in the middle of the room, staring at her in confusion. Rainbow Dash gasped when she realized that the pony didn't just have wings, but a horn as well. "Twilight, do...do you know this pony?"
"Yes, this is Solar Eclipse, and I invited him to live here. He is the original ruler of Equestria, but was booted out, and robbed of his life by Celestia...you know what? He can tell you himself." Twilight said walking down the stairway to join Rainbow Dash.
Solar spoke up, "That I can do, and I take it you are Rainbow Dash?"
Rainbow Dash smiled. "The one and only. I'm one of Twilight's best friends, and the holder of the Element of Loyalty, AND best flyer in Equestria."
"Okay then," Solar chuckled, "any friend of Twilight's is a friend of mine. I do suppose I should tell you about myself."
Twlilight and Rainbow Dash both moved to a more comfortable place , before lying down on the furniture, followed by Solar. He told Rainbow his entire backstory, including the parts about Celestia, and his exile. Rainbow dash was doubtful at first as well, but was soon convinced once her questions were answered, along with being told that Luna believed him as well.
"So...what are we gonna do then?" Rainbow Dash asked looking rather distraught.
"Well," Twilight spoke up, "Luna is going to look into the time when Solar was in the dungeon, to see if she can find evidence to present to the nobles of Canterlot. I want to help Solar become reacquainted with society, but we still have to tell Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, along with the rest of our friends."
"But, what are we gonna do about Princess Celestia?" Rainbow Dash continued.
"Solar, Luna, and I all agree that Celestia needs to pay the consequences for what she did, but the punishment for torturing another pony, at least for royalty, is a royal execution."
"I-I don't know what to say. I mean, she does have to be punished for what she did, but...but is an execution really necessary?"
"Rainbow Dash," Twilight answered, "don't forget that Celestia was the pony that MADE the execution consequence. The most important circumstances that call for an execution are murder, torture, and treason."
"Well, wasn't Solar considered a traitor?"
"Yes he was, but, that was before these laws were put into affect."
"So, how are we going to tell our friends about this, tell Princess Cadence and Shining Armor, and get them to believe us, and after all that, form a plan to throw some justice at Princess Celestia."
It was Solar's turn to speak. "We have no idea Rainbow, but we will think of something with time, and because nopony knows who I am in Ponyville, I would first like to meet a few ponies, especially these 'friends' you two keep mentioning."
"As great as that sounds Solar, I think it would be best to lie low for a few days, so that the incident with the Cake Twins has some time to blow over." Twilight said, standing up and stretching her legs.
"Oh, come on, Twilight. It's not like anypony will recognize him, other than Pinkie Pie." Rainbow Dash responded.
"I just-" Twilight began.
"Oh please, I'm sure it will be fine Twilight, what is the worst possible thing that could happen?" Solar said, standing, and heading for the door that led out of the library. He was only able to open the door, when a pink object flew through the doorway, and tackled Solar to the ground.
"Oh I just KNEW you'd be here. I invited all of my friends here to see you too! I also planned a surprise welcome-to-Ponyville-surprise-party, but I guess it's not a surprise if I told you, but you don't know when it is, so its still a surprise. Anyways I wanted to thank you again, and again, and again for saving the cake twins for me!" Pinkie Pie finished, taking in a large breath.
"Um...that's...great?" Solar responded, not to sure what the right thing to say was, being blasted with so much information at once.
Solar heard a rustic sounding voice chime up from behind Pinkie Pie. "Pinkie ah don't think that the poor colt wants ta be tackled like that."
"Sure he does Applejack. Everyone likes being tackled every know and again." Pinkie Pie said, stepping off of Solar Eclipse.
Once Pinkie Pie had moved, Solar could see three new mares standing in front of him behind the door way. He quickly flipped himself over, and stood, to see a unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony standing before him.
The unicorn, had pristine white fur, and a shining purple mane. She also had radiant azure eyes, and a three diamond cutie mark.
The earth pony had a bright orange coat, a long blonde mane, and dazzling emerald eyes. She had three apples as her cutie mark, and wore a Stetson on her head.
The pegasus pony, had soft looking yellowish-cream fur, and a bright pink mane. Not much could be said of her face or eyes, because she insisted on covering her face with her mane. He could see that her cutie mark was a trio of butterflies.
"Hi girls, I take it that Pinkie invited you here then?" Twilight asked the three mares.
"You could say invited...was a rather soft word to say. It was more along the lines of, drug here against our will." The white unicorn responded.
The orange earth pony walked through the doorway, and stood beside Twilight. "Oh stop yer belly achin' Rarity. Pinkie Pie just wanted us to meet her new friend."
"Yes, well...not all of us have time to be 'meeting new friends.'" The white unicorn, supposedly Rarity, responded, entering the Library as well.
Solar looked back through the doorway, and saw that the yellow pegasus hadn't said anything, or moved the entire time. "Um...hello out there? Would...would you like to come inside?"
The pegasus jumped after realizing that she had been mentioned, and ran around the wall from the doorway, so that she wasn't visible.
"Oh for the love of...Fluttershy!" Rainbow Dash yelled, flying out and around the same corner the pegasus made had hidden.
Twilight and 'Rarity' moved up beside Solar. Twilight spoke up. "Well, that's Fluttershy for you."
"Indeed." 'Rarity' added.
Chapter 11
Chapter 11 - A Family Divided
"CELESTIA!" Luna yelled, standing outside the door that led into Celestia's bedroom. The same bedroom where Celestia had been hiding the last four days. "I have something I need you to explain to me! NOW!"
Luna was outraged. Not only was there a cell that had been recorded as off limits during the time of Solar's imprisonment, but it was blatantly recorded in another book that Solar Eclipse resided in that same cell.
To Luna's surprise, the doorway to Celestia's bedroom creaked open slowly. Luna proceeded to speed things up by throwing the door open with her hoof. Luna was ready to interrogate her sister for answers.
However, Luna was taken back when she saw that her sister was not standing behind the door like she had expected, but standing on the far side of the room, looking out of the only window in the room.
"You really do force my hoof sometimes, Luna" Celestia said calmly, still looking out the window.
Luna galloped to the center of the room, so that she could not be shut out again, and stomped her front hooves on the ground. "Why did you not tell me, that you were keeping Solar Eclipse locked up in the dungeon?!"
Celestia sighed. "Why did you betray me, by actually believing in that pathetic waste of an alicorn's story?"
"HE IS NOT A...Wait...what?! How do you know I believe his story? Have...have you been spying on me?!"
"I HAVE, and I can not BELIEVE that you, my own sister, would believe that horrible lie of a story he told you!" Celestia was now yelling on a scale close to Luna's.
Guards were now gathering outside the still open doorway into Celestia's bedroom.
"And I can't believe that you would imprison and torture our own brother! What kind of monster does that to their family?" Luna was losing her ability to yell, and was starting to form tears in her eyes. The fact that Celestia had done such a horrid thing was too much for the lunar princess to bare. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Celestia was back into her previous, calm voice. "You were too young to know. It would have been too much to bare. It appears that it still is." Celestia finished, looking at Luna for the first time, and seeing the tears rolling down her cheeks.
Luna could also see Celestia's face for the first time now as well. Her face had a serious expression, but it wasn't enough to mask the pure anger that resided underneath. "W-Why did you do that to him?"
Celestia snorted. "I was protecting us from him, if he took the kingdom from us once, who's to say he wouldn't do it again?"
"Okay...that makes sense, but why try to take his powers away from him?" Luna said, trying not to let more tears escape her eyes.
"I wanted his powers so that I could make it easier for the both of us to do our duties."
Luna's sadness, was quickly replaced with rage. "OH THAT HIS PONYSHIT AND YOU KNOW IT! You wanted his powers for your own selfish greed!"
The guards recoiled from the door, as the room and hallway shook with the force behind Luna's voice. Celestia finally turned the whole way around to talk to her sister face-to-face. "YOU'RE RIGHT, IT IS! I wanted his powers for myself! Who cares?! You couldn't have them! You were just a stupid little naive FILLY!"
"But I was still a Princess of Equestria!"
"It doesn't matter now! It's not like he let me have them!"
"Yea, he didn't! I'm glad he didn't." Luna spoke through clenched teeth.
Luna loosened her body and sighed. "Celestia. Do...Do you know the punishment for torturing another pony?"
"I'm sorry. It must have slipped my mind. Could you remind me what it is?" The sarcasm in Celestia's tone was palpable.
"It is a royal execution you idiot!"
"Are you saying I should be executed?" Celestia gawked.
"You have to pay for what you've done, and if a royal execution is the consequence...than yes!" Luna was now full blown crying. She didn't want to kill her sister, but Celestia had to be punished for what she had done to Solar, no matter what.
Celestia deadpanned. She raised her head high, and smile down at Luna. "Luna, do you know what the punishment is for treason in Equestria?"
"No..." Luna responded, confused by her sister's sudden shift in attitude.
"A royal execution, and as far as I'm conserned, harboring an enemy of Equestria, aiding them, and conspiring against a Princess of Equestria...is all treason."
Luna stood in the center of the room wide eyed, mouth agape. "Y-y-you...don't mean."
"As Princess Celestia of Equestria. I hereby charge Princess Luna of Equestria, with treason of the highest possible degree, and sentence her to death, by royal execution." Celestia looked over Luna and saw a large group of guards standing behind her. "GUARDS!" Celestia shouted. "Lock this traitor in the dungeon."
Luna gasped, and flung into action, as she was quickly surrounded by spears pointed at her. She unfolded her wings, shot over the guards, and past Celestia, crashing through the window and flying off.
She looked back to see if she was being followed, and screamed when she saw a giant ball of yellow fire, flying straight for her. She only had seconds before impact, and decided to teleport away. Just as the fireball reached her tail, and began searing it away, she diss appeared in a flash of magic.
Luna collapsed into the floor of the Golden Oaks Library in Ponyville. "TWILIGHT!"
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. Chapter 13 - Forever Changed
Fluttershy stood before the entrance of the throne room of the Canterlot Palace. It had been a tiring journey, but she was wide awake staring at the giant wooden doors.
A guard to the right of the door, knocked a rhythm on the door closest to them. Fluttershy waited to see if there would be a response from the other side, but jumped when the doors started to open inward, creaking loudly from their dormant state.
Inside the throne room was completely black. The only light entering the room, was coming from the now open doors. Fluttershy was flooded by a feeling of dread, and she quickly turned around to run. "Um...I don't...think I can...visit at this...um....time, so I'll just be going now!"
Fluttershy took the first steps to flee, but was cut off by a guard jumping in front of her, and pushing her into the darkened throne room. "Get in there already."
Fluttershy fell onto her haunches, and the doors were quickly slammed close in her face. She shuttered at the thought of being alone in a dark...scary...probably monster infested room.
"Oh my dearest, Fluttershy, you don't look so well."
Fluttershy 'meeped' and looked around frantically, searching for the cause of the voice. When her eyes came upon Princess Celestia, who's face was being illuminated by the magic in her horn, Fluttershy scramble to her hooves, and dashed to the Princess's side.
"Hahahaha. Poor little Fluttershy. Are you afraid of the big bad monsters in the dark?" Celestia asked pouting, but smiling all the while.
"U-U-Um yea kinda maybe."
"Oh, is that so? Well then. Did you know that I'm running low on magic at the moment?"
"Uh...n-no."
"Ah yes, well. If you give me just a teeny bit of your pegasus magic, I could make my horn and this room so much brighter."
"R-Really?" Fluttershy asked. All this time she had been scanning the surrounding area. She never once had looked up to see Celestia's face, or bothered paying attention to what Celestia was saying. Her mind was focused on searching for any form of danger, mostly the darkness, and when Celestia mentioned a way to take the darkness away, she was all for it.
"Yes. All you have to do is touch my horn with your hoof for less than a second, and all of the throne room will be lit up instantly."
Fluttershy didn't respond, but instead jumped up off the ground and wrapped her hooves around Celestia's horn. In a brilliant flash of light, the entire throne room was lit into its standard level of illumination.
Fluttershy let go of Celestia's horn, and stood back on the ground, in a more relaxed state, but something felt off. Fluttershy could feel her muscles going numb, followed by her entire body. In a matter of seconds, Fluttershy was collapsed on the floor in a cold, paralyzed heap.
Celestia let out a bellowing laugh. " Hahahahahahaha you frightful fool. I knew your own fears would blind you from reality!"
Fluttershy attempted to scream, but her mouth and tounge wouldn't move. She truly was paralyzed.
"I'm honestly surprised that you even showed up, but no matter. Now I can put my plan into affect. Fluttershy, how do you feel about killing all of your little friends for me?"
Fluttershy still couldn't move. She wanted so desperately to run from Celestia, to get as far away from Canterlot as possible, and to run to her friends.
Celestia had moved up to stand directly in front of Fluttershy. "Now do be a dear, and make this easy for yourself. Celestia then proceeded to light her horn, and connect it to Fluttershy's forehead.
Fluttershy was immediately overtaken by an intense pain, that seemed to absorb her entire body. She soon realized that no matter how hard she tried, fighting it was pointless, and she quickly let the pain wash over her. Fluttershy's last memory, was Celestia, laughing maniacally, before she blacked out.
Celestia looked over her newly created masterpiece. Fluttershy was quick to give in to the mind control. Faster than most ponies did. Now that Fluttershy's body had stopped spasming, Celestia knew that the plan was one more step further forward.
Celestia cleared her throat. "Fluttershy, get up off of the floor."
Without a sound, Fluttershy's body stood up, and stared straight forward, emotionless in every manner.
"You are hereby given the assignment to bring about the deaths of all of the Elements of Harmony, Princess Luna of Equestria, and the vigilante Solar Eclipse. You are to use any means necessary. However, I will provide you with one weapon of choice."
Celestia lit up her horn, and picked up a large bundled up cloth that had been sitting in the corner of the throne room. Once the cloth was hovering in front of Fluttershy, Celestia set it gently on the ground, and unraveled it. Inside were all different kinds of weapons, ranging from battle axes, to vials of poison. None of the tools of death caught Fluttershy's eye except for a dagger.
The dagger had a short red, wooden handle, that held a seven inch blade. The belly of the dagger was serrated, and the tip curved backward toward the spine. The pommel, although small, was a two inch long, square spike. "I want the dagger." Fluttershy demanded in a monotone demeanor.
"What a great...wait...what? You want the dagger?"
Fluttershy nodded slowly.
"Hmm...I always expected that if the Element of Kindness ever went on a murderous rampage, that it would be brutal and bloody, not quick and bloody." Celestia observed Fluttershy through squinted eyes, but seeing nothing out of place, shrugged. "Oh well. If that's what you prefer."
Fluttershy reached down and picked up the dagger in her mouth. She quickly flund her head sideways so that the dagger would flip from the different sides of her mouth, and always have the cutting edge forward.
"Okay. So be it, when I release you from my mind control, you will continue your assignment, think nothing of your weapon, and remember nothing of this discussion. Is that understood?"
Fluttershy nodded again, still wielding the dagger.
"Good." Celestia finished, lighting her horn to release the mind control.
Fluttershy's eyes twitched as she was set free. She looked around feeling dizzy, and noticed she had a dagger in her mouth. She thought nothing of it, and tucked the dagger under her wing. She wasn't sure what to do next, and looked up at Celestia, who was smiling warmly at her.
"Great." Celestia said. "I'm glad we both agree. However you might want to head home now, seeing how late it is."
Fluttershy looked outside and saw that it was night time. "Yea, I guess you're right. Goodbye Princess Celestia" Fluttershy said, leaving the throne room.
Celestia waved goodbye, but stopped when the doors shut behind Fluttershy. "Have fun with your new friend Solar. I heard she bites."
Chapter 14 - The Scratching
Fluttershy flew through the shy towards Rainbow Dash's house. The last couple of days had been horrible. Princess Celestia had publicly declared all of the Elements of Harmony as traitors of Equestria, and placed bounties on them. The general public were surprised at first, soon found it easy to trust in their loyal Princess.
No word had come from the Crystal Empire, which was unnerving, considering both the Price and Princess of the Crystal Empire had close relations with ponies on both sides of the conflict.
Whole battalions of the Equestrian Guard had been placed in every big city, and little town in Equestria, not excluding Ponyville. Their sole purpose was to search for the traitors, and bring them to Canterlot. The treason of Princess Luna, and the presence of Solar Eclipse were also announced to the Equestrian public.
Thankfully, most of the ponies in Ponyville were resentful of Princess Celestia, and her decisions. The towns ponies did everything they could to help them at any time. It did little to help, but it made living in Ponyville slightly more bearable.
However the last couple of days, the Ponyville Weather Office had scheduled an intense rainstorm, that was supposed to last for the next week. Fluttershy would have no problems with the rain on a normal day, but the constant downpour was starting to irritate the animals, and wildlife around her cottage, and they were making quite a fuss.
Fluttershy decided to take it upon herself to ask Rainbow Dash, if she could stop the rain for the animals. However, something else had been scratching at the back of Fluttershy's mind. Whenever she wasnt paying attention, her thoughts would often run away to murdering her friends.
Fluttershy didn't want to hurt her friends, and these thoughts forced her into self seclusion. She refused to leave her house, or have any visitors, but the local animals had finally pushed her enough to take action. She had to admit though, the closer she got to Rainbow Dash's house, the more the scratching lessened.
It also helped Fluttershy clear her mind when she flew. Although she didn't fly much, it always made her feel better when she was done. That 'better' feeling quickly dissipated, when she looked up into the night sky, and towards an odd clearing. The moon was resting directly in the center of the cloud hole.
The moon. The thought of the moon brought about the scratching sensation more than ever. Suddenly her mind was occupied by the thought of slicing Luna's throat, and laughing, while watching her blood spill out.
Before she knew it, she was standing on Rainbow Dash's cloud porch, shivering from being soaked in rain, and chilled to the bone. She shook the murderous thoughts from her mind, and knocked on Rainbow Dash's door.
Fluttershy was surprised by the quick response, when Rainbow Dash threw open the door. "Fluttershy?! What are you doing here, this late at night?"
Rainbow Dash scanned over Fluttershy, and noticed that she was soaked, and shivering. Looking around to see that it was still raining, Rainbow Dash ushered Fluttershy inside her cloud home. "You know what? Never mind. You need come inside, and get out of this weather."
Rainbow Dash's home looked cleaner than usual. The walls were all mostly spotless, and the pictures were mostly straight. The few pieces of furniture that Rainbow Dash owned, looked surprisingly clean.
Fluttershy's observation was suddenly interrupted by the voice of Rainbow Dash. "Fluttershy, you look really bad...no offense. I'm gonna go grab you a blanket, and warm up some soup me and scoots made yesterday."
Fluttershy sat down on one of Rainbow Dash's couches, and watched Rainbow Dash, as she rummaged through a closet.
"It would be so easy to just walk over to her and shove my dagger into her side, and gouge...NO! No...Fluttershy stop it right now." Fluttershy whispered to herself.
Rainbow Dash pulled a blanket out of the closet, and flew over to Fluttershy. She quickly threw the blanket over Fluttershy to help her warm up and dry off. "Did you say somethin' Fluttershy?"
"Um...no."
"Okay then." Rainbow Dash responded, making her way over to the kitchen. "I'm gonna warm up some soup for you now okay? You just stay under that blanket and warm up."
Fluttershy turned to see what Rainbow Dash was doing, and felt her body to numb when she saw that for the entire time the soup would be being prepared, Rainbow Dash would have her back turned toward her.
Fluttershy tried to stop herself, but the scratching grew more intense by the second. Before she could react, Fluttershy had drawn out her dagger, and was sneaking up behind Rainbow Dash.
Fluttershy tried to force her body to stop moving, but the thought of having Rainbow Dash bleed on her dagger, forced her body and mind onward. Seeing as there was no way to stop herself, she did the only thing she could do before succumbing to the urge. "RAINBOW DASH! RUN!"
Rainbow Dash turned around, and dropped a bowl on the floor when she saw Fluttershy. Fluttershy was breathing heavily, and held a large knife in her mouth. She was slowly walkin towards Rainbow Dash, and she could see violence radiating from Fluttershy's eyes.
Before Rainbow Dash had time to react, Fluttershy jumped through the air. Rainbow Dash had just enough time to dodge, and watched as Fluttershy's dagger dug into the wooden countertop.
Fluttershy growled, and pulled the life out of the counter top.
"Fluttershy?! Wha...What are you doing?!" Rainbow Dash asked.
The only response was Fluttershy rearing her head back, and launching the dagger directly at Rainbow Dash's chest. However, this time Rainbow Dash wasn't so fast, and the dagger scraped her side, extracting a small gash of blood.
Rainbow Dash waisted no time in bolting out of her home, Fluttershy close behind. She knew that Fluttershy was a slow flyer, and she could outfly her in the sky.
Rainbow Dash dove into the nite sky, and flapped her wings hard, to gain as much speed as she could. Rainbow Dash gasped, when Fluttershy grabbed her from behind. They both fell into a free fall. Rainbow Dash did everything she could to escape, and succeeded, but not before receiving a large cut to the base of her right wing.
If Rainbow Dash was going to survive, she knew she had to fly as fast as possible. She flapped her wings like mad. She made a run for the closest aide possible. She flew for Twilight's Library.
Chapter 15
Chapter 15 - Never The Same
Twilight laid in her bed. The last two days had been something of a fairy tale. Luna was in hiding, along with Solar Eclipse, and both alicorns were now residing in the Golden Oaks Library. Spike was going nuts without his occasional privacy, and decided to go camping for a week with the Cutie Mark Crusaders in their clubhouse.
It had been difficult trying to find a suitable space for them to live within the tree. Even though the entire town of Ponyville supported the group of refugees, the Royal Guard that had been positioned in the quiet country town, still poked about with wary eyes.
Miss Cheerilee had volunteered to be the new librarian, giving that she could quit her job, as there were a plethora of teachers in Equestria. The little school fillies and colts were very understanding in the matter, as they too supported the 'Ponyville Refugees.'
Twilight tossed and turned in her bed, unable to sleep. Luna had to share the bed with her, and even though most of the time Luna slept during the day. When Luna did sleep at night, having two alicorns in a bed made for one pony, was not all too comfortable.
Solar Eclipse had it slightly easier. He slept on an air mattress, that sat on the floor on the opposite end of Twilight's bedroom. However, he snored outrageously loud. How Luna slept at all was beyond Twilight.
It didn't make much difference as to whether she was going to sleep that night or not, because a loud crash, and the sound of glass hitting the floor downstairs, got her attention rather quickly.
"TWILIGHT, WHERE ARE YOU?!"
Twilight groaned and sat up in bed. "Why does everypony come to me with their problems." She rubbed her eyes with her hoof.
Twilight only became more frustrated when she hear the continuous sound of furniture being knocked over, and what sounded like somepony cutting down a tree. Now beyond annoyed, Twilight drug herself out of bed, and trudged over to the doorway that led downstairs.
She gripped the handle with her magic, and flung the door open, only to be greated by the face of Rainbow Dash, dropping to the stairs, dodging a flying dagger. The same dagger that was now soaring directly for Twilight's face.
Twilight screamed, and dodged to the right as quickly as she could. The dagger flew past, only being able to cut a few hairs from Twilight's mane and fur. The dagger then proceeded to fly through the room behind her, and lodge itself into a wooden bookshelf with a thud.
This noise woke up Luna who searched around the room, intent on finding what disturbed her slumber. Her eyes fell upon Twilight, who was looking down the stairs, eyes wide, and mouth gapping.
Luna jumped out of bed, and galloped to Twilight's side. Before she could make a good observation of the surroundings downstairs, she was toppled over by a rainbow-maned pegasus.
Rainbow Dash had knocked Luna over onto her back, and was lying on top of her, their muzzles inches apart. Luna opened her eyes at the same time as Rainbow Dash, and the both blushed furiously.
Their demeanor changed when Fluttershy flew past them, and into the darkened bedroom, in search of her tool of death.
Rainbow Dash spoke first. "We can't let her find her dagger!" She picked herself up, and flew into the room.
"What is going on here?" Luna asked, righting herself, and standing up.
Twilight simply continued to look around in pure shock at her destroyed library, completely unaware of the violent murderer inside her home.
"She's trying to kill me!" Rainbow Dash shouted, tackling Fluttershy as she attempted to reach for her dagger.
This news snapped Twilight out of her hypnosis, and she turned around to see the two pegasi wrestling for dominance on the floor.
Twilight decided to do the smarter thing, and turn on the lights in the room. Doing so, woke Solar Eclipse who merely grumbled something and covered his head with the blanket.
"Why would Fluttershy want to kill you?" Luna asked, pulling the dagger from the bookshelf with her magic.
"I don't know, she just showed up at my house, and she was all wet and cold, so I gave her a blanket, and while I was warming up some soup for her, she said 'Rainbow Dash, run!' and lunged at me with that...that dagger! She cut me a few times, so I ran...well...flew here." Rainbow Dash said pinning Fluttershy to the floor.
"That makes no sense at all." Twilight said, slowly approaching the yellow pagasus. "Fluttershy is way to nice to do anything like this"
Fluttershy struggled under Rainbiw Dash, but being the much stronger pegasus, Rainbow Dash was easily capable of holding her down. Fluttershy looked around, searching for any way to free herself. She could hear ponies talking, but she had no idea who they were, and she couldn't understand them anyways. Her eyes locked onto the purple alicorn, and her bloodlust skyrocketed.
Twilight noticed that Fluttershy was staring at her. Twilight's stomach knotted when she saw the fire of murder raging in Fluttershy's eyes.
Luna looked at the dagger, observing its every detail. "Twilight. Can...can I talk to you alone for a moment?"
"Um...yea. Of course, Luna." Twilight said, following Luna to the lower floors of the Library.
The library was a wreck. Books were strewn about everywhere. Most of the couches and chairs were toppled onto the floor, the ones that were still upright, held cut and stab wounds. There were papers flying about, from the wind and rain that flew in from a shattered window. Glass littered the floor, lying alongside copious amounts of blood that stained the wooden flooding.
Luna led Twilight down the stairs, and into the kitchen, which thankfully, was untouched. Luna turned to face Twilight, and her already knotted stomach grew tighter when she saw Luna's expression.
"Twilight, I...can not say for certain, but...this dagger is from Canterlot."
Twilight gasped. "Does that mean she had plans to kill us, and bought it while she was out...visiting...Princess...Celestia?"
"I assume you know where I am going with this." Luna nodded. "She did not buy this dagger. You can not buy a weapon this deadly in Canterlot. This dagger is from Celestia and mine's personal armament. She was given this dagger by Celestia."
"That doesn't surprise me, but...how can you know for sure?"
"When Celestia and I were younger, we were bored one day, and decided to see who could create a more affective weapon-"
"You did what?!"
"Relax, Twilight. Equestria was not always as peaceful as it used to be." Luna answered quickly.
Twilight visibly relaxed. Luna continued speaking. "This dagger is the one I made for me personally. It is very deadly, and more sharp than a razor blade."
"So...Celestia gave her the dagger. That doesn't explain why she wants to murder Rainbow Dash." Twilight brought up the subject Luna was trying to avoid.
"I believe Celestia may have brainwashed her."
As soon as Luna said her final word, Rainbow dash let out a scream from upstairs. Without a moment to react, Fluttershy came down the stairs in a flash of yellow and pink, and tackled Luna.
Luna lost her concentration, and her magic lost its grip on the dagger. The dagger fell to the floor with an audible clang. Twilight gasped for the second time, and lunged for the dagger. She was too slow, as her face fell directly in contact with Fluttershy's fore hooves. Twilight looked up and gulped when she saw Fluttershy looking down at her, dagger in maw.
Fluttershy reared her head up, followed by her fore hooves, as she prepared to bring a death blow down on Twilight. Twilight was frozen in fear, and unable to scramble out of the way.
Fluttershy slammed her hooves onto the floor, head following through, dagger aimed for Twilight's face. Twilight was sure she was going to die, and closed her eyes to prepare herself, a single tear rolling down her cheek.
Luna lifted herself up off the ground, and moaned. Once she realized that Fluttershy was free of Rainbow Dash, she spun her head frantically to find the yellow pegasus. She screamed when she saw Fluttershy rearing up on her hind legs, angling the dagger down to Twilight's skull.
She tried to think of something to do, but quickly ran out of time as Fluttershy began her killing move. Without thinking, Luna spread all four legs out to stabilize herself, and lit her horn with magic. Time seemed to slow as Fluttershy's dagger grew to be within inches of Twilight's mane.
Luna could see two objects jumping down the stairs. One being a light blue, the other a deep-dark red. Eyes locked on Fluttershy, Luna heard what sounded to be a magical explosion.
Her eyes slowly raised to see a dark blue beam of magic flying out of the tip of her horn. She could feel the force behind, as her neck craned to keep her horn on target, while her legs skidded across the floor. She quickly tensed her hind leg muscles to stop herself from moving, creating a groove on the floor.
Fluttershy's dagger was now only a single inch away from its goal. However, Luna's magical beam was still on its way. Luna had no idea what spell she had cast, but whatever it was it needed to speed up.
Again, without thinking, a magical ward appeared at the base of her horn, and flew to the tip, followed by another, and another. After about five wards in quick succession, another louder magical eruption flew out of Luna's horn. Luna had to fight the recoil with all of her body. The spell became so powerful that some of the magic blasted out sideways. The dagger was now within a half inch of Twilight's head.
Twilight heard a loud magical explosion, followed by another, not less than a second after the first. She heard somepony scream, and felt a large gust of wind fly from above her head to the right. She then heard the sound of something digging into wood, followed by the sound of smoldering wood, and fire. She opened her right eye to see the dagger dug four inches into the floor, but also three feet away, creating a large gash in the wooden floor.
She looked around more, to see that there was a large gaping hole in the side of the library, which was completely enveloped in fire. Opening both eyes, she saw a large burn mark on the floor in front of her face leading from the hole, to a collapsed blue alicorn, who's horn was black and smoldering at the tip.
Behind Twilight, she could hear two ponies running down the stairs. She turned over to see Rainbow Dash, and Solar Eclipse standing at the bottom of the stairs.
She looked to Solar, whose face was a mixture of shock and terror.
Solar spoke first. "What. The. Hell. Was. That?!"
Chapter 17
Chapter 17 - Celestial Eclipse
Twilight rose from her slumber, opening her apprehensive eyelids. She was dissapointed to see the cobblestone flooring occupying her blurry vision. She wiped her face to clear her sight, and was met by soaking wet, and red puffy eyes.
Twilight sighed, and decided to sit up, and clean the dirt from the floor out of her coat. She must have cried all night, as there was a somewhat visible wet spot on the floor where her head had once laid.
A noise from outside stirred her from her thoughts. It sounded as if the muffled chattering of ponies, was coming from outside her window.
Twilight rose to her hooves, and carefully peered out the window, cautious as to not be seen. What she saw, utterly surprised her.
Outside in the courtyard were two lines of guards, forming a barricade around the execution platform, where Celestia stood, shouting commands to the guards in the defensive formation.
There was only one gate that led into the execution courtyard, which lied in the wall to the right of Twilight's prison tower. Inside the gate was a herd of ponies, slowly, but forcefully making their way in, all whilst shouting words Twilight couldn't make out.
The stream of ponies ran right through the middle of the courtyard, and halted at the wall of guards, that had formed a semicircle around the execution platform, which lied to the left of Twilight's tower.
There were too many ponies shouting and hollering to make out clearly what they were saying. However, judging by how frustrated Celestia looked, and how difficult it was for the guards to hold them back, they either were intent on all talking to Celestia, or had been made aware of what was happening, and wanted to stop it.
Twilight hoped it was the later, but was distracted as a hidden doorway behind Celestia flew open. Celestia turned around, and smiled wickedly, as Solar Eclipse was drug out through the door, by two guard ponies.
Twilight gasped, and nearly started to cry again, when she saw the condition of Solar. He had multiple bruises and burns, all over his body. His wings were bent in ways wings should never bend, and blood dropped from his muzzle, as he stumbled along with a terribly broken right hind leg.
The crowd instantly fell silent as their eyes came upon the same sight. Twilight could hear gasps, and whispers sprout up from various points in the crowd, which now filled the entire courtyard.
Celestia's smile grew even more as Solar Eclipse was drug up to one of the cement posts, and bound, while standing on his hind legs, looking out towards the crowd.
Celestia turned around and faces the crowd. The two guard ponies that drug Solar out left, and he was left on his own with Celestia.
"It has come to my attention," Celestia began, "that you all seem to know who, and why we will be executing certain ponies here today."
Celestia's smile dropped into a scowl, and her eyes darted about the crowd. "It also seems...that two of them managed to escape."
Twilight gasped again. Luna obviously escaped. Twilight had seen her run off, but she didn't see Rainbow Dash leave too. At least now there would be one more pony free to stop Celestia.
The crowd stood emotionless, but Twilight was sure she saw some of them begin smiling. That answered Twilight's question as to why some of them were there. They were all there to support them.
Celestia spoke again, once more propelling Twilight out of her thoughts. "Do not worry though, my little ponies. We still have two of the traitors here to execute."
The crowd began to rouse from its silence. It wasn't much, but Twilight could tell that it was enough to annoy Celestia.
Celestia turned and faced Solar, who had had his eyes sealed shut, from pain or exhaustion, Twilight couldn't tell. She began to walk back to where he was tied against the post.
"Solar Eclipse, my elder brother from many centuries ago, returned to us, nine days ago. He was exiled from previous crimes against Equestria, and since returning is charged with unlawful return from exile. Due to his returning, he has successfully turned all six Elements of Harmony, and my dear sister Luna, against the sovereignty of Equestria."
Celestia was now standing behind Solar Eclipse. "Therefore, he is also charged with treason."
Celestia lowered her horn to Solar's chest height, behind the pillar. "He is also charged with attempt of unlawful monarchy, due to his failed attempts to steal the throne of Equestria from me."
The crowd continued to grow louder and louder as the charges were read off. Twilight gasped, and covered her mouth with her hoof, when she saw that Celestia was looking directly up at her, smiling wickedly.
"Solar Eclipse," Celestia spoke, still watching Twilight, "due to these charges, I sentence you to death, by Royal Execution."
Celestia drove her horn through the cement pillar, out the other side, and completely through Solar's chest. The tip of Celestia's horn protruded out of Solar's chest, covered in blood.
Solar's eyes shot open, pupils shrunken. He gasped for breath, limbs spasming. Twilight watched as his life fell before her. She noticed something odd, and looked to find that Solar's horn was flowing with a deep red magical aura.
Solar looked directly at Twilight, and closed his eyes as his body fell limp. However, his horn was still glowing brightly.
Twilight was the only one who noticed his horn, because the crowd was in complete chaos, and Celestia lit her horn inside Solar's body.
Twilight looked at his horn, and felt the air to still, as the magic formed a ball at the tip of his horn. As the last wisps of magic fumble out of his horn, the ball disappeared.
Just as quickly as it had disappeared, the ball reappeared behind Twilight with a flash. Twilight barely had time to turn and face the new magical entity, before it rocketed forward, and punched right through Twilight's chest, and into her body.
Suddenly, Twilight felt dizzy, and a pain began to form in her horn, and where she had been struck. The pain grew throughout her entire body, and she eventually collapsed to the ground. She wanted to scream, but every time she opened her mouth, what appeared to be her own purple magic flowed out slightly.
She eventually chose to keep her mouth shut, and fight the pain. Unfortunately, the pain won, and Twilight blacked out, all while her body spasmed and convulsed.
It felt like only a second later, when Twilight was woken up by the feeling of something tight wrapping around her midsection. She opened her eyes, and was instantly wide awake, from the sight of a massive crowd of ponies standing before her.
She looked up, and saw a bright blue sky above. She looked back down, and spun her head to take in her surroundings. She started to breathe heavily when she realized that she was bound to a cement pillar.
She began to panic, and forced herself to look ahead to the gate of the courtyard. It worked quite well, because directly through the gates, far off in the distance, was the little country town of Ponyville. If Twilight was going to have any last thoughts, they were going to be about her friends.
"Twilight Sparkle." Celestia spoke loudly from behind Twilight, causing her to flinch at the demanding tone. "You have been charged with treason, and conspiracy towards Equestria."
Twilight gulped, she knew what was coming, she knew how it would end, all she could do was face it with dignity.
"Twilight Sparkle. Due to these charges, I hereby sentence you to death by Royal Execution."
Twilight breathed her last breath, and was enveloped in blackness. Warmth flowed over her body.
Twilight fell, she didn't know how hard or how long, but she landed on what felt like grass. A cool breeze blew over her body, and she could smell grass, among other smells she couldn't identify.
Death was rather easy, considering how violently it appeared that Solar had died. Twilight opened her eyes to face the new realm of death she occupied.
The breath ran out of her lungs, when her eyes opened up to see Ponyville off in the distance, further out Canterlot.
Twilight heard a voice from behind her. "You disappoint me Celestia...you really do."
Chapter 8- The Years Past
Twilight was unsure of the location that Solar Eclipse had given her, as to the location of their meeting. She was told to go to a cave in a mountain two miles outside of Ponyville, opposite the direction of Canterlot.
It wasn't that she had to go through the Everfree forest, but she was still traveling through some rather densely packed woods. She could see the mountain in front of her, and it had a small black speck near the top which she assumed was the cavern.
Twilight finally reached the base of the mountain, and raised her head to see the solar eclipse resting in the sky directly above the peak of the mountain.
"Well...this is definitely the right place. I just hope he wasn't lying to me."
Twilight could not see any kind of path that would lead up to the cave, and decided that it would probably be more time efficient to just fly.
She quickly unfolded her wings, and flapped them, pushing herself into the sky.
It was only a matter of minutes before Twilight was at the opening of the cave. Thankfully, the cave had an outcropping that acted as a miniature landing pad.
Twilight let herself flutter gently down to the landing, and folded her wings back against her body. The inside of the cave was dark, and the floor of the cave was wet with moisture from the ceiling of the cave.
She slowly stepped towards the entrance of the cave. As Twilight got closer to the gaping mouth, she could feel a cold growing wind flowing around her. The sudden temperature change sent shivers up and down her spine.
She hesitated mid-step, taking one more investigatory glance around the still dark insides of the cave.
Seeing as nothing had changed, she sighed. She felt extremely nervous, but wasn't sure why. She knew that Solar had invited her here, and she could intimidate him rather powerfully. However, she just could not shake the feeling that she was not going to come out of the cave okay.
All of that changed when she heard rather loud wing flaps coming from the sky behind her. Twilight quickly about faced, twirling on her front right hoof. She nearly gawked when she saw Princess Luna landing on the outcropping beside her.
"Hello, Twilight." Luna greeted with a smile.
Twilight held a questioning facade. "Hello to you too, Princess Luna. Um...if you don't mind me asking, why exactly are you all the way out here in the mountains of Ponyville?"
"Most likely for the same reason as you." Luna said approaching the entrance to the cave, and looking into it with an inquisitive eye.
Twilight noticed Luna suddenly shudder slightly, feeling the same cold wind encompassing her body. "What do you mean? Did...did Solar invite you here too?" Twilight moved beside Luna to see exactly what she was looking at so intently.
"Yes he did, but I am rather curious as to why he's not here."
Twilight hadn't noticed, that the one pony she was supposed to meet, wasn't even present. "Maybe he isn't-"
"AH HA!" Luna blurted out, so enveloped in thought that she wasn't aware that she had interrupted Twilight. Luna lowered her horn at the entrance of the supposed lair, and quickly filled it with magic.
To Twilight's surprise, a tiny ball of dark blue magic daintily flew out of Luna's horn an flew towards the cave entrance. The ball was quickly squashed and absorbed into a gigantic red magical wall, that covered the entire mouth of the cave.
"He placed a ward over the entrance of his home. Quite brilliant if I do say so myself Solar." Luna exclaimed looking at the slowly fading wall of red magic.
"I thought you might like it, but I truly was wondering when either of you was going to realize what I had done." Twilight heard the cave respond. It was a voice that sounded all too familiar. It was the same calming voice that she had heard from Solar Eclipse for two nights now.
Luna simply laughed, and trotted into the cave, turning completely invisible after passing the point in space, where the magic wall had once occupied.
Twilight stepped slowly forward. She had never seen anything like this spell wall before.
She could feel a tickling sensation flow over her body as she slowly moved past the area where the wall had been. Once the sensation had completely traveled over her body, she was able to clearly see that the inside of the cave was well lit by a crackling fire, behind which Solar Eclipse, and Princess Luna, both laid.
"Neat, huh?" Solar asked.
"Yea, but I'm kind of surprised that I have never heard of that spell before. Princess Celestia had never mentioned anything to me before about anything like it." Twilight said approaching the fire, and claiming a spot on the cave floor for her own, opposite the two other alicorns.
"Wait...you know Princess Celestia personally?" Solar asked, looking to Twilight with suspicion flowing out of his deep blue eyes.
"Well...yea. I've been her personal student for most of my life."
"But, you still proceed to chase after me, because she has convinced you that I, am the bad guy."
"Yes. That means nothing though...right?" Twilight asked sheepishly smiling at Solar.
"It means a lot more than you think Twilight."
"What could be so bad about her being the Princess's student?" Luna interjected.
"It means that Celestia may not be the heartless bitch she used to be."
Twilight jumped up to her hooves. "CELESTIA IS NOT HEARTLESS! TAKE THAT BACK!"
Both Solar and Luna's eyes flew wide open at the sudden outburst from the rather reserved princess.
Solar caught up to what Twilight had screamed, and meerly chuckled to himself. "Oh Twilight, calm down. I can assure you for certain, that I will NOT be taking 'that back'. However, let me explain to you why, and perhaps then you will understand my reasoning."
Twilight laid back down, resuming the same comfortable position she had once held, before having her fury stoked like the logs on the fire.
"Now...this is going to be long, and probably boring at some parts, BUT, no interruptions okay?" Solar asked, eying both mares inquisitively.
Both Twilight and Luna nodded begrudgingly in agreement. "Good." Solar continued, "Now...this all started when I was given my reign over Equestria after my eighteenth birthday. I was so excited, and I was the youngest ruler to ever befall Equestria, at the time. I was fair, and from what I could see, everypony that met me, instantly liked me. The had celebrations for me every year, and I showed the same kindness back to them. Nopony ever had trouble, or gave me trouble. There were no wars, no beasts, and no evils. My magical tutor Discord, was possibly my closest friend. He taught me everything her knew about pony magic. He was the most talented being with magic in Equestria...at that time, that is.
Everything started to change when he showed me the magic behind the solar eclipse. For whatever reason he could never effect the sun and moon himself, but he explained the magic to me, and I learned it as quickly ass possible. One day, I was able to finally create my very first solar eclipse. It was beautiful. Ponies loved it, it was the first time that a solar eclipse had ever happened in Equestrian history.
I repeated the solar eclipse every once in a while, and the ponies would always show support for my abilities, and love for me. Therefore, I saw no reason to stop the eclipses. I would make them once a month, then once a few weeks, then once a week, and once a day. I was oblivious at the time, but by the time I was making solar eclipses once every day, ponies were becoming rather annoyed with the whole ordeal. Some nobles went as far as to replace me. However, there were no other alicorns of the royal family, so, I was left to rule freely.
Within the year, my sister Celestia was born, and then my situation became much more dire. The nobles finally had another family member to replace me with. I honestly did want to make the ponies happy, but I had been making solar eclipses for so long that it was the only thing I knew.
Unfortunately, when Celestia came of age, I was voted out of my kingdom unanimously. I was heartbroken. All of the ponies that had once loved and cared for me, now loved and cared for my sister, as I fell into her shadow. Luna came along shortly afterwards, and by then I was mostly forgotten about. The only ponies who remembered me were those of the royal family, the noble's descendants, and Discord. All of the beloved ponies of my kingdom had all passed away. Leaving me with no outside friends.
I spent years locking myself in my own tower of the castle. Eventually I came out to talk to Discord and my family, but Celestia always looked down upon me, and Luna was probably my only other friend. I was alone, and had nothing to do but think.
After about fifty years had gone by, I devised a plan to take back the throne, and it worked for a while, but eventually Celestia became furious, because I would not step down. She eventually started a coup against me with out Luna or Discord learning about it. I was kicked out of rule again, but this time it was much worse.
Celestia wanted to take away all of my magical abilities so that I could not interfere with the kingdom ever again. I refused, and she locked me into the dungeon. She locked me there for one hundred years. From what I could tell from my guards, Discord had left, and I was forgotten about again.
I cried. I cried for days, weeks, years? I have no idea. Nopony remembered me, or knew who I was. I was just the crazy alicorn guy who cries in the dungeon.
After the one hundred years was up, Celestia came back into the dungeon, and gave me one last chance to relinquish my powers to her. I refused.
She thew me into a small room that had no windows, and was soundproofed. I remember the room distinctly. There was dried blood everywhere, and some priced of bone lying about. The walls were made of rough stone, and the floor was wet in certain places.
I was shackled to the wall opposite the door. I hung from my forelegs, and my hind legs couldn't touch the floor.
The first day she beat me, punched and kicked me. Before he left she cast a healing spell on my body. Alicorns may be immortal, but we can still die if our bodies receive enough damage. She wanted to keep me healthy, so that she could do more.
The second day she used blunt objects, she broke my leg, and I actually passed out from the continued blood forced trauma. The third day she broke both legs. The fourth, both legs and forelegs. The fifth, all my legs, and bent my muzzle sideways.
On the sixth day she came in with a hook, and slowly pulled pieces of my skin off. The seventh she knocks my shoulders out of place, and cut my jugular veins with the hook. On the eighth day, she dug out my kneecaps, and pulled my hooves of my hind legs. On the ninth, she broke my elbow and knee joints, and left me to hang in pain for hours. On the tenth, she pulled out all of my teeth, and ripped out my tounge. On the eleventh, she ripped off my ears, and broke all the ribs in my chest. On the twelfth, she used the hook to cut off my wings, and she used a tool that looked like scissors, to break my horn off twenty times in a row. Of the thirteenth, she severed my legs, cut my left foreleg off, and left me to hang my my right foreleg, while she lit me on fire. On the last day, she removed all the limbs from my body, and dumped me into an cauldron of acid. I was within an inch of dying, sweet freedom, when she pulled me out and healed me.
The entire time I held onto my powers, and never gave up. However, I was completely lost to depression, and fear. All i wanted to do was die, so as a final punishment, Celestia stole my memory, threw me into a desert on exile, so that I wouldn't remember what had happened, and hopefully never return. That way, I also would not kill myself, and would be forced to wander the Earth, in an amnesiac stupor."
Author's Note
This chapter...oh my god isn't 12:40 a.m. Anyways, its done. Sorry it took so long, but it needed tone done. Not the story, the story is far from done, but this chapter, is a big one thats off the to do list.
I hope you all enjoy it, as much as I do. Have been trying desperately to give Solar some way to be capable of emotional attachment, and I think that this chapter pulled it all together.
Once again let me know what you think about character developments, and how the story is progressing. I do apologize for the long upload gaps, but I have been reading some good stories on the cite recently.
Any who...I'm tired, I'd love to get some feedback...any feedback.
Thanks for reading :)
