The Story

Before it all, there was Lord Kane, Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna. They all worked together to keep the universe in complete balance, and it was their duty to help the Elder Gods keep anything bad from happening in the small universe the ponies were in.

And they failed.

Over time, there was conflict between the three, which eventually led to Lord Kane turning into a dark, soulless pony, who left the group thousands of years before Princess Luna's turn. They were maddened at his childish behavior, but he was the eldest of the three, so he was able to do what he wanted to do. They missed him, and over time Princess Luna took off of his darkness, and made some of it her own. Lord Kane's left essence corrupted Luna, leaving her craving the want and need for power. But that is all that is said in the books. No simple pony knows of Lord Kane and his origins except the two princesses that still rule today. Only the princesses, the elder gods, and the ones who were there know about Lord Kane's existence. Until now.
