The Connection in Our Hearts - An MLP:FIM Fan Fiction
Chapter 7
Previous ChapterSpike was woken up by the shining light leaking out of the curtains. He gave a huge yawn and walked down the stairs to greet Twilight, who was eating her breakfast.
“Your late getting up.” Twilight said.
“Well, I was out for the entire day yesterday and I was really tired. So yeah, it's pretty obvious.” Spike replied grabbing the milk bottle out of the cupboard.
“Oh, I forgot to ask,” Twilight said to Spike “How did your day out go with Rebecca?”
“Great.” Spike said walking to the table with a glass of milk.
Spike sat down on the chair and sipped at his glass of milk.
“Anything planned for today?” Twilight asked.
“Not at this moment of time.” Spike said “So, no.”
Twilight got up and placed her plate on the kitchen surface, then walked out of the dining room and into the library to do some studying. Spike went upstairs and went straight back to bed. He had hardly any sleep, and he needed it.
The next time Spike woke up, it was 12:42pm.
“Woah, did I sleep for that long?” Spike said to himself in wonder “I must be a pro at sleeping!”
Spike slowly got out of bed and looked out the window at Ponyville. Ponyville was busy, as usual.
“Might go and check to see how Twilight is.” Spike said slowly exiting his bed.
He walked down the stairs and saw Twilight as usual happily reading her books.
“I might just go out for a bit, OK Twilight?” Spike called to Twilight, who turned her head in his direction.
“OK then.” Twilight replied and continued reading her book.
Spike opened the door and left the library, then closed the door behind him. He breathed the fresh air outside.
“I wonder how Rebecca is doing.” Spike smiled to himself.
He began to walk to Rebecca's house. He arrived at her house and knocked the door, to whom her mother answered.
“Hello, Spike.” Elizabeth greeted.
“Hi there.” Spike replied “I was just wondering if Rebecca was in.”
“Oh, she went out a few minutes ago,” Elizabeth said “I'm sure she's not far off.”
“OK, thanks.” Spike said and walked away.
Spike walked through the usual busy and bustling Ponyville. He looked around to see if he could find Rebecca. But no matter how hard
he looked, he couldn't see a trace of her.
“Where could she be?” Spike said to himself in confusion.
As he walked through Ponyville, he heard a voice shout his name. He turned and saw Rebecca behind him.
“Oh, there you are!” Spike panted rushing to Rebecca.
“I was just looking for you!” Rebecca said.
Rebecca and Spike looked at each other in silence.
“So...” Spike started “What you wanna do today?”
“Oh, I don't know.” Rebecca answered “Maybe a short stroll down town may do me good.”
“OK then.” Spike said and started walking down the street, with Rebecca slowly following behind.
As they walked, Spike spotted Dennis strolling along the path.
“Hi, Dennis.” Spike said waving.
“Back to you, chap.” Dennis replied.
Dennis looked at Rebecca, then they both stopped on the spot. They both turned and looked at each other, as if they had seen each other before.
“Albert?” Rebecca said.
“Rebecca?” Dennis replied.
Spike stopped and turned around to see the pair staring at each other.
“Huh? What's going on?” Spike asked.
“Umm...” Dennis started, but didn't finish.
“Can we and him have a quiet discussion?” Rebecca said “I wont be long.”
“OK, then.” Spike said and watched the pair disappear down an alleyway.
When they were sure that no pony could see them, they started talking.
“Albert, what are you doing here?” Rebecca asked puzzled.
“Look, I can explain...” Dennis said.
“You have nothing to say!” Rebecca said angrily.
“What happened years ago was a big mistake.” Dennis explained “And the names Dennis by the way.”
“Yeah, the biggest mistake I ever made!” Rebecca said.
“Please, Rebecca. Please...please give me another chance...I've changed.” Dennis slowly said.
“How can I ever trust you again after what you did!” Rebecca debated. “And why the name change? Did you do something so bad it made you change your name?”
“My mother wanted to start completely fresh, even if it meant changing my name.” Dennis said.
“Well, even with the new name, you're still the lying, cheating scum bag you are!” Rebecca snarled and walked back out the abbey, but not before she was grabbed by Dennis, who pulled her back.
“Please, I'm sorry!” Dennis quietly cried.
“I never want to see you again!” Rebecca yelled, tears streaming down her face.
She turned and walked out the alleyway, leaving Dennis standing there.
“Well, you know what? Go on! Go be with that stupid purple dragon! I never needed you anyway!” Dennis yelled through the tears dripping down his face, followed by a stomp of his hoof in frustration.
He turned and walked away.
Spike watched Rebecca emerge from the alleyway and walked to Spike, tears streaming down her face.
“Rebecca? Are you OK?” Spike said, noticing the crying Rebecca.
She stood, looking at him before giving him a hug. Spike was taken by surprise, but he gave in and hugged her back.
“What happened, Rebecca?” Spike softly said.
“It's...it's private.” Rebecca struggled out.
“If it's anything to do with Dennis, you can tell me.” Spike said.
“No, nothing to do with Dennis, Spike.” reassured Rebecca, wiping her tears away.
“Well, if you insist.” Spike said and continued down the path, Rebecca slowly following behind him.
Spike looked behind him at Rebecca. She was slowly following him, looking at the ground.
“Are you sure your OK?” Spike asked.
Rebecca stopped and looked at Spike. She had to tell him the truth.
“It's Dennis...” She mumbled.
“What was that?” asked Spike.
“It's Dennis.” Rebecca said.
“Did he do anything to you?” Spike questioned.
“He didn't touch me, no.” Rebecca said, starting to tear up.
“Then what?” Spike asked.
“It's...well- it's difficult to explain.” Rebecca slowly said.
“What do you mean?” Spike asked starting to get a bit suspicious.
Rebecca just stood there swinging her right leg, unable to answer.
“Rebecca, I cannot help you if you don't tell me.” Spike said.
“It's...” Rebecca was struggling to get her words out while the tears fell down her face.
“Yes?” Spike encouraged.
“...Dennis...Dennis is Albert.” Rebecca finally said.
Spike opened his mouth slightly in shock. Suddenly the pieces finally came together: Dennis was Rebecca's ex ponyfriend.
“Is it the Albert that cheated on you?” Spike asked urgently.
Rebecca nodded slightly.
“I'll give a Dennis a piece of my mind!” Spike said and began walking to the alleyway.
“Spike, no please! You'll only make it worse!” Rebecca yelled “This is between him and me!”
But Spike had already turned into the alleyway and was out of sight. Rebecca slowly followed far behind.
Albert was slowly walking up the alleyway, his head hanging in shame. As he walked, he began to hear footsteps quietly from behind him. Could it be Rebecca?
Rebecca has forgiven me! Dennis thought.
He put his head up and turned around. It was a dragon, but not Rebecca. It was Spike, and he was quickly walking towards him. He had
a expression of thunder on his face.
“Spike, what are yo-” Spike grabbed Dennis by the shoulders and rammed him up against the wall, interrupting Dennis' speech.
“Hey! What are you playing at?!” Dennis protested trying to struggle free from Spike's grasp.
Spike took one hand of him and began to punch him in the stomach. Dennis groaned in pain.
“Stop! Stop!” Dennis said.
“You stay away from Rebecca, you understand?!” Spike shouted.
“I didn't do anything to her!” Dennis whimpered.
Spike pushed him to the floor and kicked him in the head, causing him to bleed a little.
“Consider this a warning, bucktard.” Spike angrily said.
He began to walk back up the alleyway, when he heard Dennis speak.
“It looks like we both want the same thing, eh?” Dennis squeaked.
Spike walked back to Dennis and held him up by the throat. They both stared at each other, anger flaring in their eyes. Dennis then
slowly turned his miserable frown into an evil smile.
“You don't scare me...” He sneered quietly.
Spike threw him to the ground.
“Stay away, you hear me?” Spike said pointing at him.
Spike turned and continued down the alleyway. Dennis slowly struggled to his hooves and followed behind Spike out of the alleyway.
“I bet she doesn't even love you.” Dennis laughed, trying to get a reaction out of Spike.
“Just get lost, Dennis.” Spike said without turning an eye to him.
“I bet she thinks to herself “Why do I have to hang out with this loser? Maybe if I act like I love him, then everything will be OK! “ So
funny! “ Dennis continued “I bet you, right now, she is regretting ever meeting you in the first place!”
Spike turned and pushed Dennis to the ground again, who groaned in pain as he impacted the ground.
“Don't make me do something I'll regret!” Spike shouted.
As Spike was about to continue to the exit, Dennis grabbed his leg. Spike turned and looked at him.
“I bet you won't even do what you'll do to me.” He said with the evil smile still on his face.
Spike suddenly blew out a huge beam of fire, nearly hitting Dennis. Spike stopped and began to breath hard in exhaustion. To Spike's
surprise, Dennis wasn't even intimidated.
“Coward...” He quietly growled.
That did it. Spike blew out a beam of fire straight into Dennis' face, who began to scream in pain as he was burnt in all places. Rebecca
peeked down the alley and spotted the commotion. Immediately she began to run down the alleyway.
“SPIKE! STOP!!” Rebecca shouted.
Spike immediately stopped to the sound of her voice and turned to see her running down the alley.
“He-he wouldn't shut up.” Spike said panicking, with tears beginning to stream down his face.
She instantly attended to the injured Dennis, who had nearly been burnt to a crisp.
“Why are you hanging out with that psychotic dragon?!” He protested in pain.
Rebecca looked a Spike, with a expression of fear and anger on her face.
“What were you playing at?!” She screamed.
“Reb-b-becca... I-I-I please forgiv-v-ve me!” Spike spluttered.
She picked up Dennis and quickly carried him out of the alleyway, without turning an eye to Spike.
“Ambulance! I need help!” Rebecca shouted.
Immediately a crowd began to form round her, advising her and helping Dennis.
Spike peeked out of the alley at the large crowd. He felt sick with guilt and anger.
“Oh god...what have I done?” He softly said to himself.
He then spotted an ambulance pull up next to the crowd. He spotted Dennis on a stretcher and being placed into the ambulance.
Rebecca jumped in and sat by his side. He watched as the cart quickly left the scene and out of sight. Spike turned and ran down the
other way of the alleyway. He slowly hid himself in a corner and cried his eyes out; which was followed by punching himself in the chest,
releasing all the anger that was crushed into him.
“WHHHHHHHHHHHYYYY??!!” Spike screamed at the top of his lungs, then continued to cry softly.
*
Spike walked back into the library, where Twilight was waiting. She didn't look very happy. Spike tried not acknowledge her as he
started up the stairs.
“What on earth were you thinking, Spike?!” Twilight yelled “You could of killed him!”
“I don't wanna talk about it.” Spike said ignoring her.
As he began to walk up the stairs, Twilight grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“Well I want to!” Twilight sternly said and stamped her hoof for emphasis.
“I said I don't want to!” Spike shouted, pushing Twilight's arm away.
He began to walk up the stairs again.
“Spike-” Twilight started.
“JUST BUCK OFF AND LEAVE ME ALON E!” Spike shouted, throwing some books onto the floor.
Twilight gasped at his reaction. Spike began crying and rushed upstairs. All Twilight did was stare up the stairs where Spike had run up
to.
“Oh my Celestia...” Twilight said to herself.
*
The next day, Spike walked up to Rebecca's house and knocked the door. She answered.
“Spike?” Rebecca said.
“Look, about yesterday...” Spike started.
“Why did you do what you did?” Rebecca said calmly.
“He was pushing me. I didn't know what I was thinking!” Spike cried.
Rebecca exited the house and closed the door. She walked up to Spike.
“I didn't know you were like this...” She said.
“Please, forgive me! It won't happen again!” Spike said desperately.
“But what if you do the same to me?” Rebecca said concerned “I never asked for a violent dragonfriend.”
Spike eyes opened wide in surprise.
“Wu-Why would you think that?!” Spike laughed “I would never do something like that to you!”
“But the thing is...is that I can't take the risk, Spike.” Rebecca silently said.
Spike suddenly realised what was happening. Rebecca wanted to break up.
“Please! Please don't give up on me!” Spike bawled “No, please!!”
“Look, Spike-” Rebecca started, but was interrupted.
“What happened to “We are made for each other, and it will stay that way; forever, until death do us part.” ?” Spike panicked “What happened to that?”
“I'm sorry, Spike...I can't run the risk...” She said, wiping a tear of his cheek “It's over.”
She walked back to her house an entered it, closing the door behind her. Spike was left standing on the path, unable to move for the
longest time in his life. At long last, the reality had sunk in. He and Rebecca were no more...
