A Sister's Final Farewell
I walked into the hospital room slowly once again. When I first found out about the accident I came to the hospital as quickly as I could. Here I am again at the door. I swallowed back my tears wanting to put a brave face on for him. I slowly opened the door to the hospital room. There I saw him once more an older stallion his once vibrant red fur was now greying with old age. His mane once a bright blond now white with age. That once strong stallion now wasting away in the hospital bed infront of me.
This stallion in the bed was my older brother. Long has he struggled to bring me everything I've wanted. Long has he come through for me when I needed him. The once strong, proud stallion now wasting here in this bed. "Draco," I whispered as I just stood at the door. I heard the machines attached to him keeping him alive if now barely.
I remember when I was a filly always seeking my cutie mark when he gave me my first scooter. It felt so right in my hooves. He raised me on his own I wonder how many times. I wonder how many times we fought over something silly. I remembered when he was teaching me how to ride that same scooter. I had taken a deep breath and yelled "You can let go now brother I think I'm ready to do this on my own. It'll be a bit scary," When he did let go he had this bright smile on his muzzle which showed how proud he was of his little sister.
I sat next to my brother's side a few tears streamed down my cheeks. Knowing this could be my last chance to see my big brother. To never see him smiling at me again. To never feel his wings around me comfortingly whenever I'm hurt.
I remember when I was caught with Sweetie Belle by him. I was so embarrassed I could have died from embarrassment. But all he asked was to take it to my room and not the living room. I didn't notice it before but he looked tired from his long trips. Increasingly so as he got older even after I got my cutie mark which was a wheel on fire.
I remember when he escorted me down the aisle to my future wife when the priest asked had asked "who gives this mare?". Draco's eyes had tears in his eyes as he had gripped my arm tightly as if he didn't want his little sister to be a full grown mare. But I wasn't the little filly that always came home with scrapes and cuts I grew up. I had whispered "You can let go now brother. You can let go. I think I can do this on my own. It still feels scary. But I want you to know I'll be okay now brother you can let go," When he did the ceremony went through. He had tears in his eyes as he he watched me go.
Now years later I'm here besides my own elder brother who had a bad heart attack but now he is dying. The night nurse came in and checked on the systems. It's killing me knowing the stallion in my life was here wasting away. She says sadly "He's hanging on for you," Tears began to renew in my purple eyes. He was holding for me. It was killing me seeing the strongest stallion I ever knew wasting away here. My own brother fighting to stay alive for me the flightless Pegasus of Ponyville. He loved me deeply even for all my faults.
I crawled into his bed. one orange hoof in front of the other. I kissed his forehead like he used to for me. My heart was breaking but it had to be done. I whispered one last time into his ear. Fighting back the tears again my voice breaking slightly. I whispered "You can let go now brother. You can let go. Your little sister is ready to do this on my own. It's going to be a bit scary but I want you to know I'll be okay now, Draco. You can let go," I whispered. I saw his muzzle smirked one last time. I held him close. Beep, Beep, beeeeep. went the machine that if I had to guess was the heart monitor. He was gone. Oh Celestia my brother was gone forever. I began to wail as I didn't want him to go. I didn't want my older brother to leave me alone. I cried into the still stallion's chest as I didn't want him to go yet.
"I want my brother back!" I yelled out into the hospital room. I didn't want him to go I didn't want him to die. I wanted my brother back. I cried hard as my wife came in and took me into her arms. I cried into her white coat. She started to cry too remembering the stallion. His work was now complete but now it was time to say good bye.
"Goodbye brother," I whimpered as I looked at the still body. "I'll miss you," I whimpered out as I remembered everything. This is my farewell to a good stallion. My family I ever knew was gone. "Farewell brother," I whispered as I reluctantly got up to go.
