My Little Heroes War is Hell

     The amtrak which contained my squad mates and I was rocking back and forward as the waves slammed against its metal sides. We were about to hit the beaches of Iwo Jima, which would probably be our final resting place. Our amtrak rolled up onto the ash beaches and we immediately jumped out. I ran straight to the mound of dirt before the Japs could start firing. I waited, expecting to hear the screams of my fellow marines calling for a corpsman, but to my surprise all I heard were the roar of planes overhead and NCOs calling out orders to their platoons.

"1st platoon let's go!" One of the NCOs yelled.

     The marines of 1st platoon immediately got up and started walking out into the open, soon followed by 2nd platoon.

"3rd platoon push up!" My NCO yelled.
