Pound Cake's Shiny Ponyta
Pound Cake's Shiny Ponyta
Load Full Story"Pound Cake, what are you doing up there?" Mrs. Cake asked from downstairs.
"Level grinding my Pokemares so that I can take on the Elite Four," Pound Cake replied.
"Um... whatever that means, okay."
Pound Cake kept on moving his character around the grass, and he encountered something, a Ponyta.
He saw it's blue mane of fire, and gasped.
He saw it sparkle, and he gasped again.
"YES! OH MY CELESTIA, YES! FINALLY!"
Mrs. Cake burst into the room. She shouted, "A-HA! I KNEW IT! I KNEW YOU WERE MA-oh."
Pound Cake zoomed up to his mother. "MOM, MOM, MOM! GUESS WHAT?!"
Mrs. Cake was still red from her stupid assumption, but she said, "What hap-"
"I FOUND A SHINY PONYTA!"
His mother just looked at him. "What is a shiny Ponyta?"
"A Pokemare, duh!"
"Oh... well... okay... I'll let you get back to your game.
Pound Cake zoomed back to his game, and caught it. "YES, I CAUGHT IT!" he cried.
He was down the stairs in flash, to tell his dad what he had done.
Before he could say anything, Mr. Cake started, "Wow, you went that fast and you didn't use your wings... Listen, we need to talk... You're at that age where you start going through... puberty, from what your mother was freaking out about-"
"What are you talking about? I just came down here to show you my shiny Ponyta."
Mr. Cake sighed with relief, then questioned him. "Huh? What's that?"
"... A Pokemare... doesn't anyone know who I'm talking about?"
"Well, try asking your sister. Maybe she knows."
He zoomed into Pumpkin Cake's room. "Pumpkin, Pumpkin! I found a shiny Ponyta!"
"A what?"
Pound Cake just stared at her, looking a little sad that nobody knew what he was talking about. "Uh-nothing, I didn't think you would know what I was talking about... See ya."
"Bye, Pound."
Pound Cake flew out of the house, through his opened windows, and started interrogating various Ponyville residents if they knew what Pokemare was.
"Yes, but I've never tried it... It didn't appeal to me," Octavia confessed.
"Um, sorry, Pound Cake, but I've never come across it in my books, so, I really don't know what it is," Princess Twilight told him.
"Isn't-HIC-that a game for-HIC-nerds? Vinyl Scratch said, in the middle of a fit of hiccups.
Finally, he decided he had no choice. He got a quill and paper from Twilight, and wrote a letter, in scratchy, twelve-year-old handwriting.
Dear Princess Celestia...
~~~
"Princess, your mail."
The guard put a scroll onto a table near Princess Celestia's throne. "Thank you, sir."
The guard left with a nod.
"Huh... this is odd... Twilight usually has Spike send me letters... I hope he isn't sick..."
Upon further investigation, she discovered that this letter was sent not by Twilight Sparkle, but a colt named Pound Cake.
I wonder what this is about... she thought as she unraveled the letter.
It read:
Dear Princess Celestia,
Do you know what Pokemare is? And do you play it? Because all the other ponies in Ponyville don't, and I don't know who else to tell. Anyways, if you do play it, then today I caught a shiny Ponyta! It has a blue mane instead of a red one, and it looks really, really, REALLY cool!
Also, your really, really, REALLY cool, too! I just wanted to say that, since the only ponies who ever talk to you are probably your royal guards, and they probably don't say that.
Your favorite Cake pegasus,
Pound Cake
She was initially touched by the kind words, to the point of crying, but then shock overcame her as she realized what he was writing about in the first paragraph.
"YES, FINALLY! OH MY CELESTIA, YES!" I'm not the only one who plays Pokemare! she thought, excitedly.
A guard, who had just passed up the room, widened his eyes in shock and hurried forward.
She levitated her paper and quill, and started writing furiously.
My little Pound Cake...
~~~
Pound Cake woke up eagerly the next morning, hoping that Princess Celestia had gotten his letter.
"What are you excited about today?" Pumpkin Cake asked him curiously.
"Be-cause I sent Princess Celestia a letter yesterday, and I KNOW she plays Pokemare."
If she does, anyways... he thought to himself.
"Yeah, and Prince Shining Armor plays with Beauty Doll toys."
She had a point, but Pound Cake kept his hopes up.
He zoomed out to get the mail, and found a letter addressed to him. He tore it open.
"Let's see, let's see..." he said as he started reading.
My little Pound Cake,
You ACTUALLY FOUND a shiny Ponyta?! I have many shinies, but Ponyta is the one I've been looking for! I have spent all of 984 years looking for one! Please do trade with me! Which game is it in? Spacial Pearl? Lunar Silver? I look forward to trading with you!
And... thank you for that compliment. It brought tears to my eyes... it honestly did.
Yours truly,
Princess Celestia
Pound Cake burst into the house waving his letter around. He went into Pumpkin Cake's room, who was reading an issue of Ponies.
"Hey, guess who got a letter from Princess Celestia herself?"
Pumpkin Cake's jaw dropped as she read the letter herself. "Oh my Celestia," she said as she levitated the letter back into Pound's hoof. "You actually got a letter from... well, Celestia!"
Pound gloated when Mrs. Cake read the letter. "Wow, a real letter from a real princess! This should be a great honor for you, sweetie!"
He shrugged. "Not really, the letter's just about video games."
"But she cried at your compliment... doesn't that mean something?"
"Well... yeah, it does, actually."
Pound flew up to his room. When he got there, he pinned the letter to his wall.
This is something I'm not gonna forget for a while, he thought.
