It was horrible - It really was.
Those that suffered are dead, and those that aren't
dead are suffering. I've failed you, and
I shall live wit the punishment of guilt and
regret. I could have saved them, I could have saved
them all - why, why didn't I..?
Ponyville, September 3rd
A large, grey cloud had enclosed Ponyville into a dull day. A strong breeze had swept across the land, swaying the branches of tree's and rattling the loose fences.
Despite the weather, ponies were gathering around the stage like an angry mob as they asked their questions with worry.
'Spike, hand me that book.' Twilight hadn't stopped cantering around the library to glance at spike, burried in books being tossed across the room for him.
This did not concern Twilight, she had many more things to worry about then whether her dragon was falling beneath the heavy weight. She turned her head, offering a smile towards one particular shelf.
She cantered across the open books scattered on the floorboards of her Library.
'Spike, I need that book.' She ordered, holding out a firm hoof to where the book was located.
'Well, What about all these other books?'
'I don't need those books, I need that one, up there, quick!'
Spike dropped the books on the spot, wincing at the pain in his tail that hadn't been noticed before he had released his grip. He climbed up the ladder, up high to the top, and reached out, pulling out a hard back, brown book and presenting it to Twilight.
'This one?' His voice showed no enthusiasm, he was not amused by Twilight's poor use of him.
'Yes, yes.' She had an urge to hurry.
Spike held his claws loosely on the ladder frame, and slid down, gently landing his feet on the floor as the book was taken from him.
'Okayletsgo!' Twilight tucked her head under spike and let him fall down her neck onto her back as she galloped out the door.
'Again, I'm sorry, I cannot update you on what exactly is going on..' The mayor was trying to speak over the questions of the pony citizens as they were gathered around the stage.
Twilight appeared, galloping next to the Mayor with a book in her saddlebag and Spike still on her back.
'I think I know the problem.' Twilight said as Spike passed her the book. She left Spike to hold it, as she did not need to read the book yet for what she was going to say.
'I have studied this before, it's an unknown force that has formed around Equestria,' Everypony gasped in horror, 'But due to the force, magic will be delayed of use, until we can find a way to destroy or overcome the force.' The crowd turned to each other, frowning in concern.
Twilight took the book from Spike, laying it down in front of the Mayor. She made sure to lower her voice, as not to worry the citizens even more.
'This will bring a threat over us all.'
Soon the crowd had cleared away, even the Mayor had gone back to the safety of her home. But Twilight remained on the stage, thinking it over as she scanned each word on the page of the book.
'I don't understand this Spike, how did it get here?' Spike sat down on the edge of the stage, holding is claws together.
'Maybe it's just natural.' He replied, shrugging as if he couldn't possibly care less.
'No, this is far from natural, Spike...' Her purple optics still focused on each word, which didn't bring her any closer to the answer.
Twilight looked up to the sky. It rumbled like a groaning voice, before a droplet drizzle under her chin, and split at the floor. Maybe she was worrying to much about this, it didn't seem much of a big deal - no magic, no worry.
She felt a friendly, comforting claw gently lay on her shoulder.
'Let's go home, Twilight.'
Twilight stood up, and walked beside Spike. She had just remembered to pick up the book, as she slid it into her saddlebag.
The evening was beautiful, the orange sky was like a sea of breath-taking colours hanging overhead.
Twilight was staring out her open window, looking as the birds flew back to their nests. Spike had been asleep in his bed, but when Twilight said she would go to sleep, she had lied, and took the spare hours to think about the day and the mysterious force. Finally, a moment of pure peace.
She looked towards her saddlebag, thrown on her bed and open, with the book hanging out. But this wasn't the only thing she noticed hanging from her saddlebag, there was also a slip of torn, crumpled, unequally folded paper.
She silently slipped a hoof inside it, and took the paper that had been hidden like a bookmark between the pages.
Carefully, Twilight unfolded it slowly. The writing was faded, but she could tell it was some sort of diary entry, a success in hiding it.
Dear diary,
I have been noticing strange things about Ponyville for a while now,
and there have been signs that there is a strange force covering it. I know this is
dangerous, and so I have decided to risk my life to save others. I will hide this note
so that no pony will discover where I am before I get there, but if I do fall on my
journey, these words will support my choice of rescue.
Yours sincerely
