An Unexpected Somepony

Another Interesting Morning

Previous Chapter

After having that dream, the rest of my night was dreamless. When I woke up, I was having difficulty remembering the dream. I tried to remember the dream, but I couldn't remember most of the details. There were a few things here and there that I was able to remember, but the harder I tried to remember, the more the details slipped from my mind.
I looked outside, and saw that it was morning. What time in the morning, I had no idea. I got up, and I stretched for a bit. I yawned. I slowly remembered the events of yesterday, and I realized, once again, I was now a pony. Somehow. Magic was the obvious answer, but I still wasn't entirely sure if this was a dream, or some weird LSD-induced acid trip, or what it was. I felt an itch on my back, and I remembered I had wings. I looked around to stare at my wings, and I still had no idea how to fly.

"Yeah, great use these things are." I said, as I grabbed at my useless wings. I decided that I should probably figure out how to fly, or at least to try to. I left the room, and wandered around until I found my way outside. Once I was outside, I decided to find something I could jump off of, and maybe get some momentum. I wasn't going to jump off the cloud that the house itself rested on, as that was a huge drop, and if I messed up, that would be a long fall. Out of morbid curiosity, I suppose, I walked over to the edge of the cloud, and I looked down at the ground, just to see how far down it was. It was pretty far down. "Far" was an understatement, as everything was a bit blurry. For some reason, as if by instinct, I crouched down, like I was about to be in a race. I had no idea what I was doing, yet it felt completely normal, like I had done it before. I pushed off the cloud, jumping into the air, and extending my wings, and for a moment, I was flying. Then, as I started thinking about what I was doing, flying turned to falling. I then began falling through the air. Seeing how fast the ground was coming up at me, I did the only thing that was logical for a person who was falling, likely to their death. I screamed at the top of my lungs. I saw Rainbow Dash up on the cloud that she was sleeping, as she began to fly down toward me, to rescue me from falling to my death. I turned around, to face the ground, and I tried to start flying again, flying hard and fast towards the ground. I started to gain speed, and I started to gain control over my flying.

"Tch, I don't need Rainbow Dash to come to my rescue." I said, grinning, as my instinctual flying skills came from nowhere again, and I had both of my front hooves extended in front of me. I started to gain speed, and the wind in my face was almost too much to handle, but just then I heard a loud gasp somewhere behind and above me. At that moment, I broke the sound barrier, and I did a sonic rainboom. When I looked behind me after hearing a loud bang sort of noise, there was the telltale coloured shockwave of a Sonic Rainboom, except that instead of being rainbow coloured, it was all different shades of blue, and some bluish-green colours. I laughed as I sped towards the ground, and pulling up right before I would have hit the ground. I was enjoying this feeling of the wind in my face, and after eventually slowing down, I flew back up to where Rainbow was, as I was apparently not having any difficulty with flying now.

"How... you... what!?" She looked at me in awe.

"I have no idea. Apparently, I know how to fly." I shrugged, just as confused as she was.

"That... was... awesome! The only other pony who's ever done that before was me!"

"Hey, you're pretty cool, Cobalt." She said, grinning. Obviously, my sudden ability to fly really well impressed her, I guess. I still had no idea how I was able to do that. It was pretty cool, but I've never had wings before.

"I still have no idea how I was able to fly..." I said, still confused as ever.

"Well, try to figure it out again!"

I decided to give the whole flying thing another shot. This time, I tried not to think about it as much as I did before. I only thought about it a little, just enough to make sure I didn't end up flying into anything. Once I was in the air, I was having a blast. This was the most fun I've had in... ever, actually. I flew around for a while, going around, above, and below the cloud that Rainbow's place was on. After flying around for a while, I landed back on the cloud.

"That was fun. I'm gonna do that more often." I said, laughing.

"Hey, maybe we could have a race sometime!" she said, grinning.

"Nah, I'd win way too easily! I'll have finished the race, and you'll be halfway done!" I said back to her.

"Ha! You forget that I won the Best Young Flier Competition! I'm the best flier in Ponyville!" She said, convinced that I wasn't going to be able to beat her.

"Well, you're lucky I wasn't in that competition, or I'd have won, instead of you!"

"Oh, really?" She said, now giving me a competitive stare. "Then how about we race now?"

"Right now?" I laughed. "Yes, let's do this!" I said, excited for a little competition.

"Alright. First one to Twilight's place wins!" She said, getting ready. "No cheating" She said after.

"Can't make any promises." I said, grinning.

On the count of three, we both took off and started to fly towards Twilight's place. I decided that I was going to play fair. At least, as long as she did.
