Can I Hold You?

“Can I hold you...”

Rainbow Dash stirred about in her bed, mumbling the words out her mouth in sleep. She could see the pony of her dreams laying next to her and smiling. Her smile was so warm and inviting and Rainbow just felt so cold when she wasn't in her hoofs.

Applejack whispered back to her. “Only if ya promise... not to let me go.”

“Definitely.” Dash moaned in sleep, her words slurred and barely comprehensible. She rolled over into Applejack's hooves only to tumble off her bed and hit the cloud ground. The cold of the clouds cooled her body instantly and she woke. She shivered on the fluffy air vapor and got up. She looked out her window to see the night sky was still deeply setted on the land. She could still remember the dream. Holding Applejack and her belonging to herself for always.

She took a weak breath and walked slowly over to her photographs. She picked up the one of her friends and looked at Applejack, smiling in the picture with a her hearty eyes and beautiful soul shining through them so.

She wished she could just be with her. She dreamt about her so much... doing things to her. Kissing her, holding her... watching her sleep.

She wanted to see her sleep, to be in Applejack's bed and embracing her in the warmth the two emitted. But that was just a wasted fantasy... she... she couldn't, could she?

Some kind of urge came over Rainbow. An urge to put this question into action and see if it could be done.

She smiled a small weak smile and knew where her wings would lead her as she jumped outside the window and began flying in the cold night air. Dark blue surrounded her as stars lit the sky and filled the pegasus with peace in her still tired state of being. Her wings beat in ease as she glided for five minutes and began flapping them quietly when she reached the farm. She swallowed and flew over to Applejack's window. The farm was silent in the night, the interior dark and dormant. She felt confident she could get away with this, she could be as silent as a ghost and she pushed opened Applejack's window. She flew in and entered the dark room. Moonlight shone in from a window and onto the slumbering orange pony's face. Rainbow Dash smiled weakly as she flew over to the side of the bed and landed in silent hoofs onto the wooden ground.

Whenever her hoofs touched solid ground she always felt a distinct disliking for it. She herself did not feel very solid. She was one of the air... her bones light and suited to be free in the sky with the wind carrying her.

As she looked at Applejack she saw a very different story being told. Applejack had heavy strong earth pony bones. She would always stay on the ground, she belonged here. How much Rainbow Dash wouldn't give to have Applejack in her home, keeping her body warm with her heat in her cold clouds.

She gazed into Applejack's sleeping face. Her own blue body stood silent in the room, barely a breath escaping her lungs as she breathed so scarcely so not to make a sound. Her object of desire had a warm beautiful smile on her snoozing face. She slept with weak breaths, her blankets curled around her front hoofs keeping in the warmth on this cool night and Dash only watched her.

She could watch her for hours. When she was with her during the day she would often catch glances at her crush when Applejack wasn't looking. She would stare into her memorizing eyes and would have to pull herself away so that it wouldn't look like she was in love. But it was so true...

Her pupils would dilate, her heart beat quicker in little drums and she would just watch Applejack with love and at the same time pain... pain that she just knew Applejack wasn't like her... was straight.

She would never admit her feelings for this pony... never say to her face to face.

“I love you...”

Rainbow didn't catch herself in time from stopping those words leaving her mouth. She froze as she saw Applejack stir and the orange pony seemed to grow a wider smile.

The earth pony just muttered with a grin in her sleep.

“Really, Rainbow?”

The pegasus didn't peep a word and Applejack just hugged her quilts closer whispering back with a deep unconscious glee.

“Ah thought you would never say it... Ah love ya too.”

Rainbow froze when those words so easily rolled out of Applejack's sleeping mouth and gave a big smile whispering.

“Really?”

There was no reply as Applejack just turned over in her bed and snuggled more into her warm blankets. Rainbow swallowed, her heart drumming in weak rhythms and she took a step towards Applejack.

Her wings lifted off the ground weakly and she hovered over her, but just before she was going to leave she placed a weak kiss on Applejack's cheek.

Her fur tasted so sweet and warm and she smiled, turning to leave but Applejack stirred from the kiss and opened her eyes weakly.

She looked up and saw Rainbow above her, smiling tiredly from sleep but as her awareness began to grow she stilted. All she could see was a black figure over her and she was about to scream but Rainbow covered her muzzle quickly, shushing her.

She squirmed, trying to push the offender off in panic but Dash just whispered.

“Quiet AJ! It's me!”

Applejack froze when she recognized that voice and her eyes went wide as she spat the blue hoof away from her mouth and hissed. “Rainbow?”

“Who else?”

“Who else?” she whispered quickly and shoved her away whispering, “What the hay are ya doing in mah room in the middle of the night?!”

Rainbow was about to say, but stopped herself. Her mouth hung open in frozen speech and she just said in a weak breath. “I just had to see you...”

“Were you watchin' me sleep?” Applejack asked, more in anger than shock and Rainbow pulled an uneasy face. She finally answered in a quiet barely audible voice.

“Sorta.”

Applejack honestly didn't know how to respond to that. Why the hay was Rainbow watching her? Did she often do this? What was this all about. But the only question that came out of her mouth was.

“Why?”

Rainbow sat on the bed nervously beside her. Her hoof rolled around on the blanket and she shut her eyes weakly. She hated that the reason was so obvious to herself but to no one else. “Because I love you.”

“W-wha?” Applejack just uttered without thinking of forming the word properly. She looked at Rainbow's frightened closed eyes. She felt the atmosphere in the room suddenly become laced with sudden truth and understanding and she said, “Rainbow, Ah-”

“Don't pretend you don't love me too.”

Applejack froze in her speech and looked at the pegasus with wide eyes. She swallowed nervously and uttered, “Rainbow, 'course Ah don-” she couldn't even finish that sentence. She knew that the truth was deeply seated in her body and soul and just looked at the smiling pegasus with nervous big eyes, “Ah...Ah mean.”

“I heard you say it in your sleep.” Rainbow Dash simply said and Applejack felt a blush spread across her cheeks, making her face go deep red and she uttered.

“Ah said that?”

“Why didn't you ever ask me out?”

“Me? Why didn't you?!” she whispered in anger at that simple question. Suddenly Rainbow had easily turned the tables on her and she felt her blush get overshadowed with red from rage. “Ya the one who was hidin' it first! Ya the one who-”

Before Applejack could finish her small rant she felt lips press suddenly to hers and she sat there frozen as a soft moist mouth pushed against hers for a few seconds. She felt all her anger melt away and she closed her eyes, kissing Rainbow back instinctively. After a minute the two broke apart and Applejack felt her heart suddenly beating back at a calm rhythm, the taste of Rainbow's lips tantalizing and feeling so at home.

“I've wanted to do that for years...” Rainbow Dash just whispered with a grin and Applejack flitted her eyelids opened weakly as she looked into Rainbow's face in the dark, the moon coming and shining light on her soft features. Applejack smiled weakly and replied.

“Ah did too.”

“Do you want to go out tomorrow?” Rainbow asked daringly. The pegasus felt like she better ask now or never... you couldn't go back from a kiss and nor did she want to. She only wanted to follow it with more kisses.

“Ya mean t'day? Ah'm pretty sure it's passed twelve.” Applejack smirked and Rainbow smiled, nodding her head.

“Yeah, if you insist.” she replied with a grin and Applejack smirked again. She blushed red on her orange fur and added weakly.

“Yeah sure... Ah'd love to.”

Rainbow's smile on her lips grew wide and she kissed Applejack again briefly. She pushed her hoofs off Applejack's chest and flapped her wings returning to the air. “How about at one?”

“Sure.” Applejack said with a smile and just before Rainbow flew back out the window the orange earth pony added. “Just don't go sneaking into mah room again.”

“Why don't you try and stop me?” Rainbow said playfully and Applejack pulled a wryly smile.

“Ah'll get Big Mac in here and he'll give ya sumthin' to stop ya.”

Rainbow paused in her leaving and flapped her body towards AJ again, saying coyly. “You wouldn't hurt me? As you said, you love me.”

Applejack became silent when Rainbow Dash said that, and blushed again a little deeper. She actually didn't want Rainbow to leave... but her modesty kept her humble and she just smiled.

“See ya tomorrow, sugarcube.”

“Kay...” Rainbow said weakly and just gazed at Applejack's warm sleepy face with eyes of tiredness of her own. She wished she could just drop asleep right then and there but knew it just wouldn't be right and flew out the window. She shut the glass panels after her and flew home in the dark sky.

She reached her abode within a few minutes and dropped onto her bed in one heavy collapse. She hugged the blankets over her and curled up. Sleep quickly took over her body and she crept into unconsciousness within seconds.

She had sweet dreams that night... dreams of running through the fields with Applejack, kissing her again and again and at least now she had reference for how deliciously soft her lips tasted. The hours crept by as the moon lowered and the sun rose quietly over the land. Rainbow slept in such a deep sleep that when her alarm went off it was deaf on her ears. It wasn't until hours later that she woke to see the time on the clock say one thirty.

“For Celestia sake...” she muttered with lidded eyes as she stretched and dropped onto her bed. She glanced over carelessly to the clock again and her eyes blew opened as suddenly the time came into realization.

“My date with Applejack!”

She rose to her hoofs and quickly took off into the sky. She zoomed so fast she nearly caused a sonic rainboom but reached Sweet Apple Acres within ten seconds and saw an annoyed Applejack tapping her hoof on the ground outside her house with impatience. Rainbow smiled nervously as she herself came into view and landed beside Applejack giving a big nervous grin but AJ only frowned.

“Ah wait here for half an hour, put off mah chores only for ya to show up thirty minutes-”

Rainbow just kissed her for a few brief seconds and when she retrieved her lips Applejack seemed to have calmed down as she said weakly. “Ah gotta stop lettin' ya get away with that.”

“Sorry, AJ.” Rainbow said sincerely but the kiss seemed to have neutralized Applejack's rage, “My alarm never went off.”

“It's okay, RD...” Applejack said with a weak nervous smirk, “Just glad you came at all.”

“I wouldn't miss this for the world.” Rainbow said honestly and the two began walking towards the trees to the quiet fields, “So... what do you want to do?”

“How about we let the day lead us?”

“You read my mind.” Rainbow smirked and wrapped a wing around Applejack. To her joy the pony seemed to drift her body closer to her in fondness.

Rainbow couldn't believe how easy this had all been. And all because she had done the wrong thing and snuck into Applejack's room. Now she was literally in a new relationship with the pony of her dreams and the two were on a date the very day after. As the day drew on the two found each other holding one another underneath an apple tree on a hill and Rainbow could feel Applejack's heart beat in her chest beside her. She smiled warmly at this and whispered into Applejack's soft ears.

“AJ... can I hold you?”

“You are holdin' me but?” the country mare muttered in peace with a smile and Rainbow Dash just shook her head saying.

“Can I hold you forever... as a girlfriend?”

AJ blushed at that... feeling those words very much made her heart flutter and her stomach fill with butterflies. She looked at Rainbow quietly and nodded her head saying with a shy nervous smile.

“Only if Ah can hold ya back.”

“It's a deal then...” Rainbow said with a wink and the two kissed. The sun was high in the sky and shone down on them as they embraced in the shade. Nothing at this moment could disturb their peace or the flourishing feelings that were finally able to be let loose. No, nothing could disturb this perfect day and the two ponies it would keep in memory forever. The two held each other in love and the first date soon turned to many more as the days continued on. Nothing breaking that embrace from history or from time.

The End.
