A fog thick enough to slow down a moving locomotive covers the area. The rampant insect population sings the song of their people throughout the swamp-scape, and the skeletal limbs of the fallow-leaf trees clawed the canopy. The animal calls echoed as well, producing a somewhat quiet ambiance that created a sense of both wonder and dread. All these noises were accompanied by the quiet percussion of the wind against the branches and the occasional bubbling of water.
This was Froggy Bottom Bog, and it was the most unusual corner of the Everfree forest.
How is it THE MOST unusual you may ask? Well for starters, the fungus that grows there is among the most beautiful and most deadly in the world. Over on that dead tree stump sits a Trigaphalis Molipecum, a carnivorous species that eats just about anything that’s big enough to land on its top- the size of a large pizza- by closing its top around the prey in a bubble, pluming out a massive quantity of powerful acid, and gobbling it up in a tasty organic stew so... watch out.
There are literally thousands of species of fungi in that forest, and since many things die and drown in the bacteria friendly atmosphere, the fungus growth is rampant due to perfect growing conditions.
Another obvious reason for the place’s abnormality is the fauna. You have snakes that have fur, flying porcupines, parasprites, reptile bears, nearly nothing in that forest looks normal. I mean, the frogs are normal, but that’s about it. The insects are over-sized, the habitats are usually some dead plant or rotting tree stump, and the beavers here make houses out of the mud in the ground, so their teeth are less developed. They make up for it with a larger tail to shovel mud, however.
We've covered the fungi and the fauna, now we just have to address the flora of this area.
Well, the flora here is pretty mundane, except for one particular plant...
Picture this: At first glance, it looks like a thorny boring archaic gray tree with curved, evenly shaped, almost tentacle-like branches in a strange formation. They spiral, loop through each other, and seem to only get nutrients from the rich soil due to the lack of leaves.
But when this plant is hungry, however, that completely changes...

The color of the tentacle-like branches shifted from a dull grey to an almost luminescent purple, and its sides sprouted glowing yellow spots that travel along the length of the branch.
One of the branches shifts, it’s a jerky, sudden movement. Then it moves once more, more smoothly this time. Eventually, it moves just like an organic limb. The rest of the branches soon follow. Lastly, it’s small thorns disappear into the plant’s body.
Before long, the once dead tree is now a living, moving, tendriled creature of sorts. The tendrils glow visibly through even the thickest fog like a beacon of safety, and the plant itself emits a calming hum.
But don’t be fooled, it makes noise and glows so its prey can find it.

What’s more, beyond the tree she saw a light in the distance! Maybe she was closer to her camping ground than she had thought.
“Hey girls are you there,” Cola called out, galloping past the strange tree and looking at the light in the distance. “Can you hear me?”
One of them answered. “Yeah, where have you been? Have you found any firewood?”

Surely it survived this long for a reason… Maybe it was dangerous? Should she just walk away and ask one of her unicorn friends if they could help her conjure up a fire?
She mentally slapped herself. After camping in this bog for years, a simple tree has given her pause? No, she’s a master of the land, and has the tools to prove it. It’s just a tree, it wouldn’t even notice a missing limb or two because trees don’t feel, right?

She spat the hacksaw from her mouth, cursing and sucking the small cut. The pain went away after a few seconds and so she looked up to see what had happened with the tree.

Cradling her gently, the plant carefully set her down on a fungus cushion, taking care not to hurt her by accidently prodding her swollen pussy. Cola lay in bliss on the fungus, her mane sprawled out and her legs parted to give her nethers time to recover.
But this afterglow was short lived, as she realized that it had probably been over an hour.
“Uh oh, I should go… buuuut it was nice meeting you Mr. Plant!” She chirped happily, slowly rolling up, her legs wobbling as she got used to gravity again. Her crotch felt like it was on fire, but it was something she would have to deal with later. She just hoped her friends wouldn’t notice. To be sure, she kept her tail inconspicuously tucked between her legs.
She arrived back at the camp site, and sitting around the fire, were her friends.
"Hello Darling! Did your walk go as planned? You look much more relaxed than before." Spring Mist welcomed warmly, patting a spot next to her on the log.
"Y-yeah, it was great!" Cola blushed softly, slowly making her way to the fire and sitting down.
"Ooh, did you see an owl? Those are my favorite!" Page Turner asked, sitting on the other side of the fire and cutely munching on a S'more.
"No, no owls were out tonight..." Cola replied.
As if the universe was out to spite her, an owl called out to the forest atmosphere, prompting all the mares but Cola to laugh at the irony.
"I wanna go see an owl now. Is it ok if I go on a hike, Spring? I promise I won't get lost." She batted her eyelashes.
Spring looked over at Cola, then over at Sound Wave, who had poked her head out of the tent upon hearing that Cola had come back.
"Sound, will you be a dear and accompany Page on her hike?"
Sound Wave rolled her eyes, but since her mane was long and partially draped over her face, you could only see her roll one of them.
"Ugh, why can't Cola? She just got back from a hike."
"Which is exactly why I don't wanna go again, I'm all tuckered out. And Spring has to keep an eye on the camp, we all know you'd just fall asleep anyway." Cola interjected.
Sound Wave sighed, and trudged out of her tent. "Fine, but next time, you're going Cola."
Cola nodded, and Page's eyes lit up at her friend's 'decision' to accompany her.
"Alright, c'mon Soundy!" Page squeaked, bouncing up and down while Soundwave trailed slowly after her.
...
About an hour and a half had past, and Spring had begun to worry about her two camping buddies.
"Oh dear, I hope they weren't eaten by a monster or something. Have you heard the legends that a Hydra lives here?"
Cola rolled her eyes. "Oh Spring, if a Hydra got them, believe me, we'd know. Now if you don't mind, I'll be going to bed." She then headed to her tent, her 'rough' evening taking a toll on her energy.
Just then, Page and Sound Wave came out of the fog, with Sound Wave yawning as soon as they were back at the now dying campfire.
"Nnnmm, I hope this means we're done for the night, because all I feel like doing right now is going to bed." She said, spreading her wings and preening them gently as she headed off to her tent.
"You are dismissed." Spring said with a happy nod, then turned to Page. "How did the hike go, sweetie?"
Page yawned before she spoke. "It was great, we saw more than just an owl, there was this cool plant that was made of stone or something. I started to climb up the limbs, taking care to mind all those torns it had, but Sound Wave told me to get down, ...and her words distracted me, so I ended up falling off but she caught me... so it's all good!" Her voice seemed to slur a little bit from tiredness.
"O-oh, did you get hurt at all? Spring asked with her usual concern.
"Mmmnope! I didn't think so anyway, I don't feel any pain at least." Page said, yawning again with half lidded eyes.
Spring tilted her head, then nodded slowly. "Alright, all that matters is you weren't hurt. Now come, let's go to bed."
Page nodded, and headed off with Spring to their respective tents.
...
Page sat up in her tent, she didn't quite tell the full story. While she did fall and Sound Wave did catch her, she failed to mention the fact that Sound Wave scratched herself on one of the thorns. Luckily it was on her inner arm, a place that wasn't very noticeable. And it was very minor, something that would heal easily. She didn't want to worry Spring Mist by telling her that.
Rolling onto her back, page felt a gentle pain on the back of her hind hoof. Lifting it up and turning it to investigate, she saw a small trail of blood, one that would result when pricked with something.
"Huh? Now where did that come from?" She wondered aloud.

Ohhh and we end on a cliffhanger in case I want to write more on this! So what do you think? Should I have Sound Wave be the next one, Page, or maybe both?
