//-------------------------------------------------------// Pretending to Be A Hero -by Blue_Firestorm- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue (Part 1) //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue (Part 1) The night was well in the land of Equestria. Ponyville was calm, Appleloosa's harvesting had ended for the day, even the large cities of Baltamare and Manehattan had calm down for this one night alone. It seemed as though everything, just for once, was calm. ...well, almost everything. Pshew! BOOM! Another missed shot. The unicorn should be considered lucky for making it this far without getting killed, with both her pursuers and with the amount of blood she was loosing, which almost made her aquamarine coat a shade of red. Her flowing blond hair was not safe from the bleeding, either. The satchel that was around her waist was tightly made around her Phsew! BOOM! "Darn it, Men! Shoot at the mare, not the scenery!" Said one of her persuiters, possibly the leader with the way he carried his voice.. They all wore dark cloaks, as if they were trying to hide there identity. She knew they were getting close to wherever she was going, so her pursuers where getting desperate to stop her. Her desperation was growing mad now. She'd hoped that going into the Everfree Forest would throw them off her trail, thankfully, it seemed to.have worked for the most part. But they were still close enough to find her. "...I just got to keep running. I know I'm getting close." Her adrenaline was hiding any sense of becoming lethargic, even her leg, which she knew was broken, wasn't showing any sense of pain. Thinking fast, she used her magic to blast a large tree over, blocking the path between her and her pursuers. She hid behind a tree. "Curses!" Said the leader of the pursuers, in a raspy, somewhat alien like voice. "That mare shouldn't have gotten that far. Ariel, see her anywhere?" He must have been talking to a walkie talkie of some kind, because a grainy, yet notably feminine voice responded to the first. "Negative, we lost both sign of her and the target when she entered the forest. And we don't even know where she's heading, let alone her location. Besides, its really dark around here, its impossible to see anything this point at night." "Agh!" Said the first voice. "Feral, take to the left of this tree. Malice, Double back to make sure she dosen't try to backtrack. I'll take the right. MOVE!" And with that, the voices were gone, as if they were never there. The unicorn finally caught her breath. She checked her satchel to make sure the 'target' was still there, which thankfully, it was. She quickly began to move, ignoring the loss of blood and broken leg, and praying to Celestia that she'll find somewhere... wait, is that light?!! Meanwhile... Fluttershy never really worked this late, but she but  didn't mind. She was working on a project she promised for Cheerilee. Fluttershy promised Cheerilee to help her with an activity that she read about for her class related to the animals of Equestria. She had a week to prepare for it, but she figured she might as well get started for now than later. Right now, she was working on an outfit for Angel, her pet rabbit and her helper for the presentation. Well, Cheerlee was presenting it. Being front of crowds wasn't her thing. "There," The yellow pony said, picking up a hand mirror to show her pet, "how dose this look, Angel?" Angel was wearing a type of bow tie. It was plain black and not badly stiched, but it was comically large for his body side. Angel quickly shook his head and sarcastically began to wobble side to side upon the table as if it was heavier than it was. Fluttershy giggled slightly at this as she quickly turned around to look at the clock. It was almost eleven. She was considering heading to bed when suddenly... BANG! BANG! BANG! "AH!" Fluttershy dove under the table she was working at, knocking Angel off of the table. It's safe to say Angel wasn't pleased. A voice from the pony outside. "Hello? Anyone here? I need your help! Please." Fluttershy finally got out from under the table and rushed towards the door. When she finally opened the door, her heart skipped a beat. The female unicorn of her doorstep looked as though she was in a war zone. The dried blood on her aqua coat and mane, including her led that looks like she's having trouble to stand on, shows she's very in desperate need for medical attention. "Oh my goodness!" Fluttershy exclaimed "Your hurt, if we hurry we can get you to Nurse Red-" "No," the unicorn interrupted, "there's not enough time." Instantly, Fluttershy was concerned. "Enough time for what?" the yellow pony said. "I need to get this satchel to Princess Twilight," responded the unicorn, still trying to catch her breath, "Do you know where she lives?" Fluttershy was just tooken into how seriously the situation is. She quickly answered the "Yes, in fact she's one of my best friends." The unicorn had a sigh of relief "Thank Celestia, some luck." And with that, a light blue magic began to losen the satchel and place it around Fluttershy's waist. Fluttershy responded with a confused grunt as the satchel was a bit snug around her waist. "Um...may I ask what's going-" "Trust me," the unicorn responded quickly, "the less you know the better." Fluttershy was wondering if she got tied into something very bad. That theory was reassured when she thought she heard a noise come from the left pack and felt something kick her side. "What you can know, however, is that I need this satchel to be delivered to Princess Twilight within the hour," the unicorn said. "Trust me when I say its a matter of life and death." That bit of information kickstarted Fluttershy's adrenaline, yet her voice never shows that. "If that's the case, I'll do it," the yellow horse responded "but what about you?" The unicorn took a breath, and turned to the friendly host. "Let's just say, I have a past that's about to catch up with me." she said in a surprisingly motherly voice. The moment would've been sweet if not for... Bang! Bang! Bang! "Oh no," the unicorns ears dropped "They've found me." "Who? Who found-" The unicorn practically was pushing the pegasus out the window at this point. "JUST GO!" Fluttershy, surprised by her forcefullness, jumped out the back window and started the flight towards Twilight's castle, hoping the best of luck to the unicorn that now laid in her house. Later... A quick banging on the door was all it took for Twilight to be awoken. Having an imprint of pages on her face from a book she was reading, she wondered what awoken her until the door once again was punched by the visitor, demanding to be let inside. "Alright, Alright! I'm comming," yelled the alicorn, as she got out of her bed and went downstairs. "For Celestia's sake you would think someone would own a clock at this day in age." The knocking began again, adding onto Twilight's already growing headace. She was about to get some answers from this jokester whether it was important or not. Almost as soon as soon as a fourth knocking began, Twilight nearly ripped the door off its hinges. "WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT!!!!?" It took Twilight about three nanoseconds afterwards to learn that the 'jokester' was actually Fluttershy, one of the first friends she made in Ponyville when she moved here almost five years ago. "Oh my...I am so sorry Fluttershy, I didn't mean to yell at you," Twilight said, wiping the sand out of her eyes. "But its almost midnight, what are you doing out so late?" Fluttershy, shaking the tiredness and shock of what just happened, she quickly stated the facts. "I need your help, but first thing's first; I need to call the police." Twilight went from being tired to wide awake instantly. In Twilight's bedroom... "So what your telling me is," Twilight recapping the story that Fluttershy quickly briefed over. "is some random mare came to your house, in the middle of the night, no less, and randomly gave you this satchel you have, and told you to give it to me. Am I right?" "Yes," Fluttershy responded, taking off the satchel gently and placing it on Twilight's bed, "why? Don't you believe me?" Twilight was still constantly pacing as she dose when she's confused about something. "No I believe you," Twilight muttered "but the whole thing sounds kinda fishy to me." Then suddenly, if not explicitly, she heard...crying? Twilight groaned "Fluttershy, I said I believed you. Please don't cry." "But I'm not crying." Twilight automatically stopped pacing, turning around to see a dry-eyed, yet equally confused Fluttershy. This became a mystery to both of them, especially since it sounded somewhat like a...baby cry? Both Twilight's and Flutershy's eyes grew the size of dinner plates roughly around the same time, as they both turned there attention towards the satchel on the bed. "Well, that makes sense." Twilight said as she began to reach for the satchel. "You mean I flew an infant pony here?" Fluttershy said, her eye said still wide. "Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh." "Relax, Fluttershy. It completely makes sense." Twilight said, as she placed the satchel on the couch "It was just a relationship dispute. Obviously, the mare you described had an argument with her husband, and she ran towards your house for safety." She finally unhooked the satchel, building suspense as if this was the slasher flick or something. "So, you see Fluttershy? Everything is perfectly- Holy Celestia!" Inside of the satchel bag was an infant, no doubt, but not what Twilight was really expecting. Its body was a greyish black, looked smooth and seemed it lacked fur, its back legs had holes in them the size of BB bullets, Its horn curved on the top, similar to an insect horn, and its mane and tail were both a mossy green color. At first glance, most would confuse the child for a changeling hatchling, but it had other features that made it somewhat different form most changelings. First, and the most obvious, it lacked changeling wings, making it a soul unicorn. Secondly, its front legs lacked the holes that its back legs have, and lastly, and the hardest to spot, he had pupils, each eye being a different color, one red, another blue. Twilight stared at the odd child, taking in every single detail, just to make sure that this wasn't just another one of Clelestia's jokes, but it seemed to be the real deal; it was a changeling pony hybrid. "Twilight," Fluttershy said, taking the princess out of her royal stare down with the infant, "there's a letter here for you." Fluttershy handed the letter over to Twilight, and she nearly torn the entire thing apart trying to get it open. Since she wanted answers, this was her only lead towards learning about this situation. Dear Princess Twilight, I understand if you don't believe this story and think this is some elaborate plan to get rid of my son, but that's just not the case. The child who you see in front of you is Sorrow Blast, I chose that name for him because of the hardships he'll have to go though, not only for what he is, but what his lineage will prove for him. His father and I meet during last year's Equestria Games, and it was love at first sight. He was disguised, of course, but he trusted me enough to show me what he truly was after the events. Looking back on it now, I probably should have left him, because I didn't know what kind of a monster he was. Then, on April 22, my son was born, and nothing made me more happy or more frightened in my life. I knew the reputation most changelings had, especially after the whole Canterlot fiasco a few years back, so I couldn't imagine the pain and suffering that he would have to go though being a mixbreed, weather disguised or not. His father sudggested taking Sorrow back to the hive, saying he had friends in high places, and he could pull some strings and have him join the army. I refused to be separated from my child. That must have set something off in him, because he quickly became more agitated, angrier, and even smacking me around at times. Two weeks after that, in the middle of the night, I took Sorrow and bolted. Its been two weeks since I've left Blatimare, and I'm almost a day or two outside of Ponyville as I write this. I've been avoiding public transportation, since the changelings could be hot of my trail as I write this. It's madness that I've been though trying to save my child may prove fatal for me, so if I don't come with my child, please, I beg of you, find a way to keep him safe. I want him to read this letter when he becomes of age or when you think the time is right. I do not know his skills in magic, however I do know he can change his form, but don't try to force it on him into changing in front of people, I've seen the damage that something like that can do to a child. In the satchel are enough supplies to help him out, a 1000 bits for him to have, plenty of clothing for him to keep warm, and some blankets. Its not all he needs but, it might become necessary after a while. If you can not help, I understand. If you don't like the idea, its fine. But please, let my son live a happy life, not one of fear, but in love and friendship. And no one knows friendship better than you. Thank you for your time, Sugar Cane Twilight read though the letter nearly a dozen time, trying to comprehend what she was being asked. Keeping a changeling pony hybrid? How was she able to comprehend that? She started pacing the floor again, carrying the hybrid with her, to an almost comic level. She suddenly stopped, she needed advice, she needed help. "Fluttershy, go get Spike," Twilight finally said, "I need him to send a message for me." Fluttershy nodded and ran out the door, looking for the purple dragon's room. Twilight turned around to face the young-blood behind her. His eyes seemed droopy, and she couldn't blame him after traveling halfway across the country to get to this seemingly sleepy town. Twilight only sighed at the oddly cute mixbread. "I hope Clelestia can help me this."
