Her coat felt cool against the grass, equalizing the two feelings in a pleasant way. The great mountains of Canterlot rising up in the distance, the quaint village of Ponyville sat nearby. However, the field was secluded, far far away from any troubles of this world. Pinkie paused her rolling, letting her body fall to its side and her face to press against the cool green blades of grass. The meadow flowed liquid-like as a warm breeze ran over everything, only serving to perfect the day for Pinkie. Pinkie was happy, breathing in the sweet smells of the meadow and letting nature pamper her with its gifts. She turned her body, rolling over onto her opposite side and looking over the preparations for the day. A classic red and white plaid-pattern picnic mat had been lain on the flat of the hill, a large wicker basket sat in it's dead center, keeping it from blowing away in the wind. A small pink balloon rose up from the basket, floating upwards towards the sky but was tethered by a small length of twine. "Everything's READY!" She screamed gleefully, jumping into the air with joy in her heart as she awaited the arrival of her friend. Today would be perfect. The sun shone like a giant flower in the sky and the birds chirped like a symphony of chimes and bells. "Heaven."  She said to herself contentedly. "Pinkie!" She heard a familiar voice call out to her from a distance far across the meadow. As her body stiffened with excitement she pounced into the air, spinning at an even rate as she rose and descended. A blue blob appeared in the distance of the fields, smeared across her vision from the spinning. It didn't matter. She knew who it was. "DASHIE!" Pinkie screamed at the top of her lungs, shooting off the top of the hill and zooming towards the light blue pony that she so looked forward to seeing, kicking up clumps of dirt in her wake. "Wait, wait wait wait! wait-" The blue pony tried to avoid the inevitable, attempting to dodge Pinkie Pie's sprint, but she was too late. Pinkie Pie was set on a hug and she intended to get it. As the bright pink bullet collided with the agile cyan mare, an audible oomph could be heard. Pinkie tackled Rainbow Dash to the ground, momentarily knocking the sense right out of her and causing her eyes to cross for a moment as they tried to regain focus. "Dashie! I'm so happy your here and that you could come and I'm just so excited we could spend this time together again and and and-" Pinkie Pie rattled off her words at the speed of light as Rainbow Dash attempted to recover. As Pinkie Pie began to stutter due to happiness, Rainbow Dash chuckled underneath her, a chuckle that erupted into uncontrollable laughter, causing Pinkie to join in. Their bodies shook with joy as they embraced again, enjoying each others company. As Rainbow's laughter faded into a content smile, so did Pinkies. "What were we laughing at again?" She said innocently, cocking her head to one side inquisitively. Rainbow Dash let out another chuckle, more controlled this time. "Pinkie Pie, you are SO random." She said with another massive smile, hoping Pinkie would pick up on the inside joke. She did. Pinkie grinned wide, stretching her mouth out to each side of her face and looking up to the sky. "This is going to be so much fun!" She screamed giddily, leaving Rainbow Dash to get up from the ground on her own. Rainbow laughed again as she dusted herself off. "I'll race ya' to the hill!" Rainbow yelled out to Pinkie as she prepared her wings for flight. "You got it!" Pinkie called back as she already began her meandering jumping gait. Rainbow Dash flew slowly beside her, a confused look on her face. "Uh, Pinks? It's a race." Pinkie Pie continued to smile gleefully. "I thought we could just talk for a while." Pinkie said, not a waiver in her appearance until she leaned her neck over (somehow keeping with her bouncing gate) and whispered in Dash's ear, "Since they don't like us talking. Remember?" Rainbow Dash laughed nervously, but soon regained her composure. "So how is everypony anyways?" Pinkie Pie asked her innocently, a smile still plastered on her face. "Well they aren't really different than they were yesterday Pinkie." Rainbow Dash answered her, an obvious tone in her voice. "Well how am I supposed to know?" Pinkie Pie yelled, her voice maintaining her permanently happy tone, "I never get to see them anymore!" "C'mon Pinkie lets race!" Rainbow begged suddenly, trying to get Pinkie to speed up, "I'm hungry!" Pinkie laughed as she began to spin her legs in mid air. "If that's REALLY how you want it, then OKAY!" The "Okay" left her lips just as she took off through the meadow, bits of dirt and grass flying up behind her. Rainbow Dash was stunned, but not fully surprised. Pinkie had a lot in her for such a crazy little pony. As she flew beside the speeding Pinkie Pie, she gave her a small wink, a sign of harsh competition. Pinkie Pie giggled even as Rainbow Dash out-flew her. Rainbow Dash faced forward, curving over the humps and bumps of the pasture, skimming them by inches. As the hill with the pink balloon loomed ahead of her, she became aware of something else pink standing on the hill. More disturbingly was the fact that it was waving at her. As Rainbow landed with a thump skidding ever so slightly, a happy looking Pinkie Pie just looked at her smiling. "What?" Rainbow Dash screamed as she landed, awestruck by Pinkie's speed, "How did you do that?" Pinkie just shrugged. "I dunno. Exercise?" Pinkie said as she turned to the wicker basket on the mat, "C'mon! Eat eat! You said you were hungry!" Rainbow Dash cantered to the mat as Pinkie Pie opened the basket, pulling out item after item. "We have cake, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, icecream, sprinkles, suger, soda, candy corn, suckers, toffee, chocolate bars, sandwiches, salads, candy salads, soup, chocolate soup, cream-in-a-cup, cake batter, cookie dough, flower-bits and... muffins." Rainbow Dash laughed, "You already said muffins." Pinkie pie looked at her with wide eyes, holding up two muffins, "Jelly filled or plain?" They laughed as Pinkie set the food out on the mat, briefly wondering how she managed to fit all of that food inside the small wicker basket. "So how have you been holding up? Doing anything exciting yet?" Rainbow dash asked her, a smile on her face as she munched down a muffin. Pinkie took a big bite of ice cream as she nodded her head, almost spilling it everywhere. "YES! If I think about it really hard, I can ALMOST fly! Isn't that awesome Dashie?" Rainbow Dash chuckled, "That's great Pinkie! Then we can fly together when you get better at it!" Pinkie nodded excitedly again, her eyes rolling around in her head. "I know!" She exclaimed as she bit down on a salad-sandwich, "It's going to be SO fun! We can laugh and play and dance and hug and have a bunch of funny slash fun times in the sky! It will be fun! And funny!" Rainbow Dash laughed again, letting her laugh linger in the air. She looked around. The air was warm on her coat and the sun beat down just perfectly warming her body. It was lovely here. She never wanted to leave. With a sigh, Rainbow Dash attempted something risky. "Hey Pinkie?" She started, rubbing her hoof into the ground, digging up some loose grass. "Yes Bestie?" Pinkie responded gleefully, happy to be around her favorite pony in the entire world. "Can we talk about the accident?" A silence hung in the air as Rainbow Dash swiveled her head to face her friend. Pinkie Pie looked...strange... Her smile sat on her face just like normal, but it looked more forced than she had ever seen it before. A half eaten sandwich sat in her hooves, which had fallen limply to her lap. Though clenched teeth she began to talk. "Why would you want to talk about that?" Pinkie responded slowly, her creepy smile never leaving her face, "I thought we got over that a while ago." Her eye twitched. "I think-" Rainbow Dash started hoarsely before clearing her throat, "I think we need to talk some more." Rainbow Dash spotted Pinkie's hair begin to wilt, but then spring up again as she bounced into the air. "Happy happy happy!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, landing right in front of Rainbow Dash, almost in her lap, "So what do you need to say?" Rainbow Dash gulped loud and audibly. "Do you remember when Gilda attacked me, I mean, you?" Rainbow Dash stuttered suddenly, starting slowly, trying not to make eye contact with her friend. Pinkie Pie remembered vividly. The claw marks, the punches, the kicks, the insults, the smell of alcohol overwhelming her. "Yes." Pinkie nodded deadly, her hair beginning to wilt and her smile beginning to fade. She looked away from Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash continued carefully, making sure not to set Pinkie off. "Do you remember exactly what happened that night?" Rainbow Dash continued, edging closer towards a dark part of Pinkie's subconscious. Pinkie just stared at her blankly for a few seconds, muttering something under her breath. As Rainbow Dash leaned in to hear what she was saying Pinkie exploded in joy again, rising up into the air. "C'mon Rainbow Dash! We don't have to talk about this! Can't we just be happy happy ha-" Her borderline insane rant was cut short as Rainbow Dash tackled her to the ground, knocking the wind from her. "Pinkie!" She screamed at her, pinning her down to the ground, "We NEED to talk!" Pinkie swung her hooves at her pitifully, but she couldn't seem to knock Rainbow Dash off of her flailing form. Eventually Pinkie's hair bottomed out, falling loosely down to the cool grass. For several moments everything was still and Rainbow Dash could hear the air fly through the grass. Suddenly, as Rainbow looked deep into those blue-ringed black orbs, Pinkie began to cry, tears flowing with speed down the sides of her face. She was broken. "Yes! Yes I remember!" She cried harder, speaking in between sobs of deep emotional pain, "She was drunk! She yelled at me! I tried to be her friend ONE last time, and she scratched me! I remember! Are you happy?!" Pinkie pie closed her eyes and rested her head against the ground, tears spilling from her outrage. "She clawed at me! She kicked me and beat me until I couldn't even laugh." Pinkie Pie brought her face up to Rainbows and in a strained voice said, "I couldn't even laugh Rainbow." Pinkie collapsed back down to the grass, deep long breaths flowing through her throat. Rainbow Dash looked at her, longing for her to continue. "Do you remember what happened after?" Rainbow Dash prodded quietly. Pinkie Pie sighed again, her whole body shaking anew. "You happened," Pinkie said, tears still flowing down her face as Rainbow Dash let her up slowly, "You kicked her...k-killed her...a-and you saved my life..." Rainbow Dash just looked at her, an intense stare locked on her face. A stare of pain and hurt. "Pinkie..." She started, holding her words back like she knew they would cut, "She...I never made it..." Pinkie glared back, a look of confusion on her teary face. "What in the name of Celestia are you talking about?" She said, her heart aching once more, her eyes looking pleadingly at the pony she knew had to be real. "She...I died a long time ago," Rainbow continued on, "you just wouldn't believe it." Pinkie pie shook her head, tears splattering everywhere as she got up to leave. To run. To hide. "You're a liar Dashie," She started, denial setting into her brain, "I can SEE you y'know!" Rainbow Dash brought her forehooves down Pinkie Pie's shoulders, forcing her back down. "Think about it Pinkie! I know you don't want to, but you need to!" Rainbow screamed at her, the sound-waves breaking into her very soul, shattering the delusion she had built. "The kicking!" Rainbow Dash yelled to her, knowing she was getting somewhere, "The screaming." "The kicking the screaming, the kicking the screaming," She repeated the phrase over and over again while pinkie squeezed her eyes shut and covered her ears. "They need you out there! Your friends need you!" Pinkie Pie felt her shoulder break a she was tossed against the ground by an overpowering Gilda. She let out a sobbing scream into the dark of the woods as Gilda began he assault. "Little pony bitch!" Gilda screamed as she kicked at Pinkie's face, causing her to flail her good arm wildly to protect herself from the blows. However her defenses were in vain as Gilda brought out a claw and slashed her forehoof, cutting a deep swath through the skin and muscle. "Please Gilda!" Pinkie Pie screamed as Gilda kicked at her more, this time aiming for the ribs, "We can still be friends." Gilda stopped kicking for a moment, leaving Pinkie Pie shuddering, holding her shoulder with her sheared open forehoof. She felt the stink of alcohol wash over her as Gilda came in close, running a razor sharp talon lightly along her victims neck. "We're never going to be friends you little cunt." Gilda whispered harshly as she spit in Pinkie's face, causing more tears to flow from her eyes and her sobbing to continue. As Gilda raised her claw for a killing blow, a clear and confident voice could be heard through the darkness of the night. "Get the buck away from her!" Rainbow Dash screamed as she sailed towards Gilda with frightening intensity and speed. Pinkie opened her eyes seeing everything in slow motion. As the blur that was Rainbow Dash connected with a very surprised Gilda, Pinkie saw her front hooves thrust into Gilda's feathery body, deeper than could be healthy. Gilda tried to defend herself, but Rainbow's velocity was to great and as she put her talons out in front of her, she could see them break and bend in unholy ways. Pinkie's mind was fading fast now, overwhelmed with pain and blood loss, but as she began to black out, she felt the soft embrace of a friend around her. She blinked her eyes, trying to stay awake for Dashie. "C'mon," She heard the pegasus grunt as she grabbed Pinkie and attempted to carry her on her back. However, Rainbow Dash felt weak, and she couldn't lift the smaller pink pony onto her back like she had imagined. So she had to make do. "Pinky can you walk?" Rainbow Dash asked, out of breath now, suffering from some unseen ailment. Her voice seemed so far away. Pinky collapsed, the darkness in her mind overtaking her and leaving Rainbow Dash alone. When the blackness faded, she felt soft hooves pat her body down softly, analyzing her tender body. Her knees felt weak, like she had skinned them on gravel. "Get her inside. Check the other one." She heard a soft voice call out as flashlights illuminated the dark. The hospital. She was at the hospital. Dashie must have dragged her As Pinkie tried to move, she felt her hoof rub across a soft mane. Opening her eyes, she saw the still form of Rainbow Dash lying next to her, her eyes shut and her mouth open slightly. She reached out to her Dashie with her bloody forehoof, ignoring the extreme pain as she ran a hoof over her shoulder. "Dashie." She whispered with her pained breaths. No response. "Dashie?" Pinkie's voice grew more urgent as she pushed on her friend, leaving a smear of blood streaked across her coat. Still nothing. As a stretcher was pressed under Pinkie Pie and she was lifted in the air, her friends wounds came to light. A deep gash was visible in Rainbow Dash's chest cavity, only about a hoof long and not very wide. Pinkie Pies mind raced against time again. She must have impaled herself on one of Gilda's claws when she attacked her.The wound must have touched her heart, or at the very least hurt some sensitive internal organs. Pinkie Pie has ever seen this before. In all her years of being a carefree and happy mare, she never once had to deal with a situation like this. Everything about her shattered. Everything she knew about life broke into a million tiny pieces. Her mind raced and panicked, trying to process all the emotions she was experiencing. Rainbow Dash had dragged her to the hospital... using the last moments of her life to try and save her best friends. Pinkie's knees ached from where they slid across the pavement. This wasn't possible. Rainbow Dash couldn't die. She was invincible! She was going to join the Wonderbolts! Nothing could kill her! Pinkie Pie let out a half dead whimper as the medical ponies carried her through the white hallways of the hospital, her mind regressing further and further into itself. "Dashie?" = = = Pinkie Pie held Rainbow Dash close to her body, trying to feel the warmth that they once shared. The warm wind still blew through the fields and the sun still hung high in the sky, but something felt less, real about them, like the sun could fall at any moment, and the wind smelled artificial. "Pinkie," Rainbow Dash said as she broke the embrace from the still crying Pinkie Pie, "she's always living inside you." Rainbow Dash pressed a hoof against Pinkie's chest. "Your never going to forget her, because inside of you, there's a piece of her." Rainbow Dash went on explaining, "And do you know what I think she would want?" Pinkie Pie looked up from her sorrows, eyes peering out from behind her long dead hair. "What?" She asked, tears still running down her cheeks falling into her lap when they ran-over. Rainbow dash moved the hair from Pinkie's eyes, tucking it behind her ear. "I think she would have wanted to live through you," She said, placing her hooves on Pinkie's shoulders, "for you to be as loyal and as determined as she was. I don't think anything would make her happier than you carrying on her legacy." Pinkie looked into the pink eyes of her former friend, now just a figment of her imagination, and pressed her face forward, nuzzling the image of the pony she loved, even if it was just an illusion. Rainbow Dash nuzzled back, because somewhere in Pinkie's subconscious, Rainbow Dash had the power to be loving and gentle. "They need you now Pinkie." Her projection went on, "You've been in here long enough." Pinkie nuzzled harder. "I can't leave my best friend Dashie." Pinkie cried into her shoulder, "I'm happy in here. I'm with you." "Pinkie you were happy out there too..." The image said to her. "That's because I had you...her..." She sobbed out, multiple fluids flowing from her snout. Rainbow Dash wrapped a forehoof around Pinkie's head and whispered in her ear, "You always have her...living inside of you..." Pinkie cried deeply, sobbing in the illusions shoulder. Even if she was just an image of her imagination, she could still pretend it was Dashie. She liked pretending. She played that game a lot here. "But how will I talk to you again... how can I hear your voice?" Pinkie went on, making desperate excuses to stay. "She can always hear you Pinkie. She's always looking down on you." Rainbow Dash pulled back and looked at her with a smile, "And that's not your imagination talking either, that comes straight from the heart. If you listen closely, I'm sure you can hear her too" Pinkie let out a small laugh, her hair puffing out slightly, but then deflating once again. Rainbow Dash looked her in the eyes once more, Pinkie returned her last gaze with her best friend. "Now please Pinkie. You need to be free." Her subconscious told her, "You need to go with your friends and live again." Pinkie knew it was true, and as she grasped Rainbow Dash in her forehooves one last time, tears spilling from her ducts more than ever before, she held her tightly. She felt the form disintegrate under her touch, floating away into oblivion like a cloud of mist. "Goodbye Dashie. You'll never leave me again." = = = Pinkie Pie sat in a large room, her hair still deflated. The ground was soft, padding stitched into the walls. The air was warm, a fresh breeze came in from a window several meters up. Pinkie stared at the small hoof-sized object in her hooves, analyzing it with a strange attention to detail she had never experienced before. The small burlap pony sat in her hooves, it's rainbow colored locks and tail tangled and twisted against its beautiful blue fabric. She remembered when Dashie had made this for her. As she thought back to all the fond memories she had of her friend. She banished any regrets or grudges. She wiped the slate clean and readied herself. As she got up from her seat in the corner, walking to the heavy metal door on the other side, she walked not with a feeling of sadness, but a somber feeling of commitment. Commitment to the friend that had not once abandoned her for anything. She knocked nervously on the door. Dropping the doll from her mouth. "Can I come out now?" = = = Twilight Sparkle sat opposite Pinkie Pie and a mental health official across a small metal table. "We checked her out and she seems to be absolutely fine." The large white coated stallion said to Twilight happily, who smiled at this new development. "That's...that's great!" Twilight responded with a huge grin, reaching a hoof across the table to rub Pinkie Pie's. Twilight thanked the doctor and lead Pinkie Pie out of the room and into the hallway, but before they closed the door, Twilight exclaimed, "Wait, you forgot your doll!" apparently oblivious to how much the doll resembled Rainbow Dash Pinkie Pie simply looked into the room, eying her small fabric toy sitting on the bench where she had been seated moments before. "Do you want it Pinkie?" Twilight asked, slightly concerned at her silence. Pinkie Pie looked for one last moment, but a warm feeling in her heart  pulled her away from the door and she started walking down the hallway, Twilight trailing behind, still surprised. "No Twilight. I don't need it anymore." Pinkie said as she and Twilight neared the exit of the hospital where the rest of the group was waiting. Pinkie's hair began to resume it's usual elasticity and shape as she met her friends for the first time in months. As the group crowded around her, giving her compliments and nuzzling her affectionately, she knew that no doll could make her feel closer to Rainbow Dash than she did right now. Rainbow Dash lived on inside all of them. = = = Welp. There you go! Completion at... 3:31 am... Every time :P I hope this makes up for Letters while I get everything tied up on that end! I'm really not sure what to classify this as really. A strange? A sad? A dark? Well that's ok. Have a good night everybody :) I'm going to go die now! And by die I mean sleep, not actually die. That would kinda suck. <3 I love you guys.
