Why me...

It was night in Ponyville, all the shops were empty, and the only light in the dark night was Luna's moon. The roads are empty. Suddenly a filly burst out into the road, her mane and fur unkempt, she had a panic look in her eye as she broke out into a fully gallop into the town. Her breathing was loud and labored as she raced in no particular pattern. She blurred past multiple houses with a single person knowing. Soon the filly found an alley way that seemed to satisfy her, because as soon as she saw it she sharped turned nearly colliding into a wall just to get there.

She slowed to a walk once she was inside the alley. Scootaloo gazed around the alley look for signs of other ponies and maybe a place to lay and attempt to get some sleep. She found a place next to a dumpster. She pressed her back against  and slowly slide down until she was in a sitting position. She let out an attempt to sigh, it came out as more of a desperate gasp for breath. Once she regained her composure she did what she did too often, she started talking to herself.

"Dammit Rumble," she spat, "why did you have to go tell."  Her gaze turned upwards to the sky. Her look soften slightly.

"I guess his heart is in the right... place..." She felt herself become weak and tired. She felt her eyes getting heaver. She made a vein attempt to keep her eyes open.

"I can't.... sleep.. yet," She said desperately.

She wasn't going to win, her world was slowly being covered in darkness. "Maybe a five minute rest won't hurt." she said unaware that she as about to re-live the past couple weeks

Scootaloo awoke to the smell of cider and cigar smoke. She gazed out the window to determine the time. Her eyes widened she had about 10 minutes before school started. Quickly she got up, grabbed a comb and her scooter, and rushed out her door. Before she closed the door she scanned the living room for any signs of her dad. Probably still asleep she thought as she rushed out the door

The ride to school was nothing out the usually an empty stomach, no lunch, and no one to talk to the whole ride. Man I really need to start getting up early... she thought looking down at her growling stomach. Using one hoof to clench her stomach and the other to steer she began her normal routine of the day.

Rumble trotted slowly towards the school. He has been dreading this day since he moved here three days ago. He had to completely start over and he wasn't very good at making friends. Eventually he made to the front steps. Gulping he walked into the the school Please, don't let today be bad, he thought miserably.

Rumble must have been later than he thought, because the classroom was full of other colts and fillies roaming around. Rumble sneaked to a seat and sat down. He turned his head down so he didn't have to look at any of the other students. A few seconds later the bell rang and everypony went to their seats. Rumble pulled his head up when he heard his new teacher's voice.

"Alright everypony quiet down, please," Ms Cheerilie said pleasantly. "Before I begin the day I would like all to meet the new student, Rumble!"

Rumble's ears perked up and he suddenly felt all eyes on him. He gulped nervously. "U-um H-hi." He choked

"Hi, Rumble," The class said in unison.

"Alright, time for role call, students," Ms cheerilie said pulling out a piece of paper and quill.

Rumble glanced to the left An empty seat, he thought, I guess someone isn't here.

"Scootaloo!" The teacher said.

No response.

"Is scootaloo here?"

"YES, I'M HERE!" came a voice from the hallway.

The door slowly opened reviling an orange and purple filly. Scootaloo gave a nervous smile and looked up at Ms.Cherillie. She gave her a small nod and pointed to the seat next to rumble. With a small huff Scootaloo walked up to the seat next to Rumble. He took a deep breath. He's gaze drifted to Scootaloo, and for whatever reason his eyes were glued to her. It didn't take her long to notice. Scootaloo turned towards Rumble and gave a friendly smile, "Hi, I'm Scootaloo," she said, "You the new kid?"

"U-um Y-y-es" Rumble mumbled.

Scootaloo giggled, "Nice to meet you- ummm... What's your name?"

"Rumble." He said quietly.

"Nice to meet you Rumble..."

Rumble gave a small nod as Scootaloo turned her attention back to the board.

After awhile the bell rang that singled lunch. All the fillies and colts filled out the room as quickly as the could, except for one. Rumble took his time getting ready for lunch, the one thing he knew he was going to dread today. Once he gathered all his stuff he made his way for the door. Its now... or never... Rumble thought stepping out of the door.

Rumble slowly walked out into the playground look for a spot to isolate himself. as his gaze swept around the playground all the spots had a group of ponies there.

"HEY NOOBIE!" Rumble heard from a familiar voice. He turned to see Scootaloo waving at him "Over here."

Rumble started to walk slowly over to Scootaloo and her other two friends which had amused looks on there faces. Scootaloo rolled her eyes as Rumble got slower and slower.

"Come on slow poke!" She hissed.

Eventually Rumble made it to the table where Scootaloo was and sat next to her. "HEY RUMBLE!" The other two said in unison. He gave them a small wave.
