"Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you!" They sang cheerfully for their shy friend. "And many more!" Added Pinkie at the end. Then, the mane six gathered around as the yellow pegasus as she took her first bite. "You girls really didn't need to do this. I was just going to stay at home and play with the animals." Flutter Shy said gratefully, "But I guess there's no stopping Pinkie from throwing another party..." "You know me too well!" Said the pink pony wiping a single tear from her eye. "Well anyway! ARE YOU READY TO PARTY?" She explained hitting a red button which lit up a the room and made it rain multi colored balloons! Rainbow Dash and Applejack gathered over at the darts board and began to play. "You should have nether crossed me Dash! I've been throw'n these things since I was a filly!" Warned the cow pony confidently. "Well, you shouldn't have have made fun of Flutter Shy like that! I swore on my life that I would protect her! Don't make me a liar!" Shouted Dash angrily. "What?" "Saw it in a movie once... But your still going down! There is no way I'm gonna let a earth pony beat me!" Bragged Dash, "I'm too awesome!" Meanwhile on the dance floor, Pinkie Pie was rocking out. Jumping of the walls like a mad pony, which she was. Soon after the party pony saw no pony else was dancing. Why? "I must fix this!" She thought to herself. "Hey guys! So, why is no pony dancing?" She said nonchalantly. "Well, I didn't want to get I in your way so I just kept eating my cake... It's good pinkie..." Flutter Shy timidly said whilst backing away. "Oooh no! Come on! I'll just dance next to you!" Insisted Pinkie Pie before literally dragging the yellow pegasus on to the dance floor. Twilight stared at them and smiled. Taking a sip from the punch she said, "Isn't this nice." But then noticed the unicorn sitting next to her looking quite disgusted. It was rarity, "you do know that Pinkie lets gummy swim in that punch, right?". Followed by Twilight spitting it out into the cup. After a few hours the music stops and rarity says apologetically, "Pinkie, I'm sorry but I'm afraid i'll have to go soon. Sweetie Belle might be worried if I don't get back." All six nodded in agreement and soon Sugarcube Corner was deserted and they all set out for home. One certain alicorn yawned as she trotted toward her tree house and began to think. She had had so much fun today at the party, one of pinkie best! Twilight wished she could do that every day, Well not EVERY DAY, but sometimes. It's good to have company like her friends and she loved them and all but there were other ponies who would spoil their fun or even endanger them. For example, Lightning Dust from the Wounderbolt Academy. That pegasus nearly killed her and her other five friends, for crying out loud! Lucky for Lightning, Twilight had casted a cloud walking spell on herself and the others. Now, the thing that worried herself is that Twilight had Been having thoughts about ridding these ponies from Equestria maybe banishment but an even darker idea came to mind. What if they were to just, disappear? Just.... die. Quickly, Twilight shook her head as if to make the idea fall out. Suddenly, she began to stumble and fell over. The next thing she knew her muzzle was deep in the dirt. Angrily Twilight shouted, "Hey! Who tripped me?" She knew no pony would answer but I guess she just had to vent her frustrations. Then, she felt something like paper underneath her fallen hoof. Confused, Twilight looked up and saw a mysterious looking book lying there. Purple magic surrounded the book as she peered at it. "What is this doing here?" Putting it tightly in her grasp, Twilight regained her posture and continued her trot but it soon evolved into a gallop. "Who would leave a perfectly good book just lying around?!" She cheered. Reading the same stuff over and over can get a bit boring and who wouldn't be happy for something new? Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Twilight was not in the best shape, she knocked on the shutters and spike immediately opened the door for his friend. "Were in Equestria have you been?!" Yelled the baby dragon worryingly. "I thought you exploded or was eaten by a zombie! You should have come back sooner! I was about to-" Twilight then cut him off "Spike, I'm here now so don't worry." She then gave him a short hug before saying, "Actually, I got a new book for the library. You should be grateful I was so late!" Followed by a slight chuckle (I don't think spike was amused though). "Well, anyway I've made dinner so do you wanna do eat? Sunflower sandwiches!" Offered Spike but the purple pony just remembered the book. "No, sorry spike but I think I'm going to read my book first." Declined Twilight as she stepped upstairs, "Its my duty to see if these books are appropriate for the public. It might have a... SPELLING MISTAKE!". She then ran up and collapsed onto her bed and followed to take a proper look at the book. She was caught by surprise to find that the actual title of this book was, "Death Note? As in a notebook of death? What kind of a pony would play a sick joke like this?" Protested the princess with a disturbed look. Despite this, she carried on. She knew that judging a book by its cover is a foolish thing to do. "The pony who's name is written in this book will die." Her heart then skipped a beat as she narrowed her eyes as if to challenge the book to prove itself. "The note will not take effect unless you have the pony's face in your mind while writing the name. So ponies with the same name will not be effected. The cause of death should be specified in the next forty seconds otherwise the pony will simply die of a heart attack. Details about the death should be written in the next six minutes and forty seconds." Now, Twilight truly was afraid of the notebook that sat in front of her. Not even the most sadistic or evil pony in Equestria cold dream up a prank like this. But, what if it really was for real. A notebook capable of greater power then Celestia? The things you could do with this! There was only one thing she could do, and that was try it out. It's actually a good thing as well. If this was real and it could kill, then it's extremely dangerous and needs to be destroyed but if it's not no harm done. If Twilight was going to do this, it had to be done right. To just right down a random name like somebody she is close to suspicion would be placed upon friends or enemies of the victim. So, in other words no killing ponies she knew. Then the thought from early began to tick in her head.  Many ponies do not deserve the position they have. Many ponies take advantage of other or use their gifts to cause trouble or harm others. There is only one kind of pony like that. A criminal. A string of robberies had been committed and the culprit was on trial but was going to be declared innocent. If he were to be set free then even more discord would be unleashed and Equestria would be one more step towards destruction. Somepony has to put this to a stop! Soon, Twilight sat down at her desk and started to to think of a plan. There was no way she could just walk in there and say, "Hello I would like to kill one of your inmates with this book!". She began to devise a plan. "Visiting hours at the prison should start soon. I suppose I could just go there and kill him then." Upon hearing that Twilight dismissed it and thought it would be a bit too obvious to walk in there with a notebook called Death Note. Wait, what if it didn't. Maybe if she was to cover up the title or the cover with a piece of black paper. It's not like the police officer would stop her and take the book from her. Twilight is one of the most respectable and responsible ponies of society. Even if she was to have it taken away and be uncovered then she could just say Celestia requested a list of the ponies on death row in Ponyville. Levitating the paper Twilight covered all the sides and set out for the prison. As she trotted suspiciously down the dirt roads the princess' sun rose over the horizon accompanied by a set of yellows and reds cascaded across the new morning sky. The air was ruff on her skin and gathered around her hooves when she met the prison doors. "What am I doing? I can't kill anypony!" She hesitated as she backed away trying to sort her mind out,"No! It's for the good of Equestria." She pushed herself threw the door. She cringed at the horrible smell of sweat and grim when she looked at receptionist. "I'd like to see Iron Sword" She said politely. "Oh hello Twilight, is that right?" Asked the pegasus at the desk with a smile, "Well why? I didn't figure you would want to come to a place like this.". Twilight thought for a moment and smirked while saying confidently, "Well, I assume you remember I used to be the  student of Princess Celestia. You see she's getting a bit concerned about the amount of ponies getting sent to prison and had me write a list of the inmates ." Soon after giving some personal information, Twilight went and waited for the robber. Spider webs were in every corner of the room and rats scampered across the floor. Disgusted at her surrounding, Twilight noticed Iron Sword behind the glass and approached him cautiously. "Well, well, well. Isn't it the princess' little student." Said the prisoner whilst grinning, "So what brings you here?". Stepping towards him Twilight warns, "I'm going to try to kill, if it's alright.". Iron Sword laughed at her and dismissed her remark confidently, "You do realise your in a jail and there are thousands of police around? You can't do anything!". A silence swept over them when she pulled the book from her saddle bag. "What's that?" He asked. Next a black quill was lifted out and the Death Note was revealed. "Now don't be afraid, it's for the good of your country. It might not even work!" The quill touched the page and wrote down "Iron Sword". Forty seconds later his heart stoped... Twilight panicked. Dropping the note she backed away and yelled for somebody to come and help her, "Help! HELP! Some pony!" Before long the room was packed with police officers but thankfully she had noticed the notebook and picked it up. After a few hours she was aloud to leave because she didn't seem to have any weapons on her and there was no physical damage to the body, Plus there was no spell that could make a pony have a heart attack. "So this is real... So, I have killed. I don't know why everypony makes such a big idea about this... didn't feel good or anything." Contemplated the purple pony as she sat comfortably on her bed. The window opened and lightning flashed and thunder boomed loudly outside when a mysterious figure walked in. "Hello princess!" Greeted the creature. //-------------------------------------------------------// L. //-------------------------------------------------------// L. "Discord? Why in Equestria are you in my house?" asked an annoyed Twilight, "And what's with all the lightning and everything? Go away!" He just shrugged it off and said, "Well at least I don't steal other ponies books, do I?" Becoming even more annoyed at Discord, Twilight narrowed her eyes and said, "You took the elements of harmony! Plus, I don't have any book of yours!" Ponting towards the door she ordered, "Now please, get out or I'll call the cops!" The demon then smirked and made a chair appear. "Well, it would appear that your not in the best situation with the cops are you. Considering you killed a pony. I'm just here because I have to be!" He motioned to the desk were the book lay. "It's the rules and are you not the little goodie two shoes who all ways plays by the rules?" "What do you mean it's the rules?" Questioned the alicorn when she moved in front of the book as if to protect it, "Oh, and I found this book, it's mine!" Discord's smile grew even bigger. "Key word being 'found'. I dropped it!" He teleported the note into his hands, "Oh and seeing you fall into the dirt like that was hilarious!" The princess snorted with frustration, "Well would you care to explain!?" "Obiously, you already know that this notebook can kill, not the most useful but whatever. That's my book, I dropped it somewhere and it just happened to drop in front of you. The most boring pony in all of Equestria..." Followed by a sigh, "Well since you came along and took it, I'm bound to you until you die or I write your name in my death note." Twilight stepped away. Discord had become that much more disturbing in that explanation alone. "Hey? Twilight? Breakfast is ready? Are you going to eat?" Called spike from dowstairs. "You do know I can turn invisible? He can't hear me either." He said as if it was obvious, "Just go..." Upon going down the stairs she noticed five familiar faces. "Oh, hi Twilight." Greeted Flutter Shy. Stepping cautiously down the stairs before saying, "What are you girls doing here?" "WELL, DIDN'T YOU SEE THE STORY ABOUT THAT PONY AT THE JAIL WHO HAD A HEART ATTACK WE ALL THOUGHT THAT REALLY SUCKED! SO WE WENT DOWN TO THE POLICE STATION AND WE ASKED HOW WE COULD HELP AND THE NICE STALLION SAID WE COULD MAYBE PROBABLY PLAUSIBLY HELP WITH THE INVESTIGATION!" Yelled Pinkie Pie enthusiastically. Confused, Twilight asked "Wait, what? What about the investigation" So, they all gathered in the kitchen for breakfast. Spike served them and then excused himself. "You haven't heard about the heart attacks being going on. It's the biggest story around."  Informed Rarity, "there have been four this week!" Then Twilight began to sweat. "I can't seem suspicious." She thought "Of course I have. You see, I was visiting one of the prisoners when he died." Then she began to lie, "He just sort if collapsed and I didn't know what to do so I just called for somepony." Rainbow Dash then got up and shouted, "Well we can't just sit around and wait for more ponies to die! We have to do something, right Twi?" Applejack nodded in agreement, "Twilight, you gotta help us." "How can I help? You know what? What if I can't help?" Twilight lashed out. She had to change the subject somehow. "What if I get killed!? What if you get killed?!" "What if you were the pony who gets killed? What if your just waiting in there just to get killed?!" "GIRLS!" Shouted Flutter Shy pushing them apart, "This is no time to be fighting!" Rainbow sat back down and crossed her hooves. "I guess so, but it's not like we can do this by ourselves. We need some sort of help..." complained Dash. Twilight sighed and offered, "I suppose I could drop in ounce in a while and help a little bit."  Soon after they left for Twilight to think for a while. Meanwhile, in Canterlot a conference was being held. Princess Celestia sat at the peak of the hall with Luna by her side. Voices filled the room and was almost deafening but suddenly the night princess spoke up. "Pardon me, but don't we have a case to solve and I don't believe that  arguing like this will do any help. Now if you will excuse me I have duties to attend to." Her hoof steps echoed around the room and when she left you could hear a pin drop. "I have decided to ask help from this new detective named L." Celestia began in a serious voice, "nobody knows the whereabouts or identity of this pony. All we can be sure is that he or she is the only one capable of solving this case. L requests the full cooperation from the police to catch the so called Kira." At that moment the wall behind her lit up with revealing "L" on a large banner. An ominous voice boomed out from nearby speakers and it says, "Greetings, I am L. I have decided to keep my identity I secret to not to endanger myself. In my occupation many ponies will try to harm or even kill me which is partly the reason I have asked for the Equestrian police's assistance. It is quite clear that I will be able to uncover the truth behind this case without additional help." "I suppose I should tell you the plan..." "Hmm, seems your earning a bit of popularity." Compliments Discord and turned into a fan girl, "Can I get an autograph?" "No look here! All of these ponies are supporting Kira, I guess that's the name they've given me. Too bad everypony thinks I'm a stallion... This is the proof that I'm doing something right!" Said Twilight cheerfully while Ponting at the newspaper. There were various articles about the mystery pony Kira, The bringer of justice. Surprisingly the majority were pro Kira and supported Twilight's actions. "So is there anything else this book can do?" Questioned the alicorn, "For exampel, if you were to take a page out would it still work?" Discord looked puzzled at Twilight's question. "Well... Nah! I wouldn't know anyway.. this isn't my kind of thing." Just to be on the safe side she teared a piece from the back, folded it around a pencil and put it behind her ear. Just in case she was in a situation were she didn't have the death note. "If this isn't your thing, then why are you doing it?" Asked Twilight, "it's not like you get paid or anything." "I have some friends from were what your doing is normal. Anyway, I visited them and I managed to nab a book. That used to belong to some guy named Light. Or was it Raiot? I took it back here and accidentally dropped it, it's not mine anymore when it touches Equestrian dirt. I managed to make my own note with my powers but it's not as good." Suddenly a loud bang came from downstairs and a deep voice said, "All report to town square now!" and of course Twilight reported at the square and a large magical field surrounded it. "Seems like the all seeing spell," whispers discord (even though nobody could hear him anyway) "they can see all of us and we can see all of them..." Before long a light green pegasus walked into view. His mane was tattered and untied and his coat had many stains and bruises. His eyes filled with hate and betrayal when he sat at the desk and began to speak. "Greeting, I am L. Otherwise none as Lucky stars" His voice scratchy and hard to understand.  "I am trying to find the killer of many inmates in asylums over Equestria. That killer is Kira. If you are watching this may I just say what your doing is wrong and nopony appreciates it. You. Are. Evil..." Something snapped inside Twilight. Those three words. Those tiny little three words. "You are evil". She ever so subtly took the piece of paper and layed it on the ground and writes down "Lucky Stars" and forty seconds later the guards in Canterlot were just dragged him away. Then a white screen with just the letter L  appeared. Twilight was caught off by surprise as she listened at the mysterious pony behind the microphone. "Oh so you do exists Kira? I don't know what to say. Now, please you have already killed the innocent so kill me..." All of the ponies looked around but found nothing. Trying not to stand out, Twilight copied the crowd. "Are you scared?" L taunted, "So you don't want to kill me or you can't. I think I'll go for the latter. By the way, I think I have narrowed down you whereabouts quite a bit. This message was only shown to Ponyville citizens. The first murder was a young pony named Iron Sword a robber in Ponyville. Hello and goodbye, Kira!" Followed by a long beep then quite. "I'm not evil... I'm JUSTICE!" //-------------------------------------------------------// The Trip //-------------------------------------------------------// The Trip A chorus of hooves pounded into the Twilight's brain but yet it felt silent. There's no way anypony could outsmart her. How could he have thought of a plan like this? L. Who is he? This isn't how things were the supposed to go! Noticing she was one of the last ponies in the square, Twilight stood up taking the piece of paper with her and throwing it into the nearby trash can. The other five approached and smiled at their purple friend. "Why, hello Twilight. I thought you would have already left for home!" Rarity greeted kindly. All of them gathered around her. "Twilight, why didn't you come stand with us?" Asked Flutter Shy who looked a bit concerned, "Certainly you weren't hurt?" Twilight just rolled her eyes and began her trot back to the library. "Now how could I have hurt myself since you last checked up on me? I've just been reading up in my room." Lied the alicorn -but she was very convincing. All six went down to the library to discuss the meeting in town. Upon arriving, Rainbow dash took the seat at the front and proclaimed herself the leader. The other five eventually sat down next to her. "Okay, I think we can all agree that that guy was awesome!" Exclaimed the cyan pegasus, "He was all like, 'oh yeah Kira I know were you live!' So cool!" Apple Jack rolled her eyes, Dash could latch onto a pony almost instantly. First The Wounderbolts then Daring Doo and now and now this L. "I think you got your head in the clouds. We don't really know if this pony is THAT good." Reasoned AJ with a grin, "He could have just got a lucky lead." Rarity was surprised at the mere thought of it. "Apple Jack, how could you say such a thing? He's done a better job then you EVER could!" She argued. "Guys! Can we just calm down and talk normally?" Interrupted Twilight forcefully "You would think we're enemies!" Added Flutter Shy, "It doesn't matter whether L is good or not. At least he found a clue!" After that everypony settled down. "Anyway, how are we supposed to find this criminal if he's in such a big town? With all these new folk he could be anypony!" Said Apple Jack while looking at Rainbow Dash, "Since your our 'leader' you should know what to do right, Sugar Cube?" Snarling, the pegasus replied, "I never said I had good ideas, I said I should be leader because I always took action!" Nopony spoke for a while until Pinkie Pie let out a slight sigh. "It's too bad we don't live in Canterlot. If we did then we would be able to visit the headquarters and see what's going on..."  Right at that second everypony gasped and Rarity complemted, "Pinkie, your a genius!" The pink pony smiled merrily, "Thanks Rarity!" "Twilight, you can ask the princess if we can come to the castle?" Questioned an anticipated pegasus, "Imagine it! It'll be like we're real detectives! Maybe we'll be able to meet L!" They all got more exited the more they talked about the trip, even though Twilight hadn't given her answer. Speaking of which, the young alicorn hesitated. Getting closer to this whole thing would prove dangerous and would be harder to write down names. In the castle there is heavy security and is very hard to get any privacy. It would be extremely foolish to take a trip to Canterlot at a time like this but objecting would only make her seem strange or suspicious. Her friends had accidentally trapped her. Looking away, Twilight quietly said, "I suppose I could get us a room.. But its not a promise!" and celebratory cheers flooded the room followed by Pinkie shouting, "Come on Dashie, we gotta go pack!" They both ran for home quickly. "Don't y'all think their a bit too exited?" Said the farm pony. The next morning Twilight was awoken by a discord alarm clock next to her ear. He sat there holding it ,looking quite annoyed, "I've been trying to get you up for half an hour! I was this close to throwing a bucket of water on you." Twilight arose followed by a sigh, "You didn't have to wake me up, it's not like I have anything to do..." Discord grunted and threw the water on her anyway. "Then I guess you don't want to go to Canterlot, do you?" Realizing her situation, the alicorn brushed her mane slightly and teleported down the stairs. "Spike? SPIKE! I'm going to now... So watch the library... okay?" The dragon didn't answer... Even without a reply Twilight rushed outside dashing towards the train station.  Amazingly, the other five still sat patiently on the benches waiting for their train. "Hi!" Welcomed Pinkie Pie, "Your a bit late." Relived, Twilight seated herself next to Rainbow who sat near the end. Peering at her side the pegasus said, "You go to Canterlot so much you already have stuff there." She was confused by Rainbow's statement. Everything Twilight needed was at home. "What do you mean?" "You don't have any saddle bags." "What?!" She jumped and looked but her friend was correct. Due to the hurry she had forgotten her bags! "You can use my stuff, if you don't mind that is." Offered Flutter Shy sheepishly. Twilight began to sweat but ultimately agreed. Finally, the their vehicle arrived and all six boarded the train. //-------------------------------------------------------// At Canterlot //-------------------------------------------------------// At Canterlot All six were sitting quietly as the train ran down the metal tracks. Suddenly, a pink pony broke the silence. "Twilight, what did the princess say in her letter anyway?" Asked Pinkie whilst tapping the alicorn on her shoulder. Turning around to face Pinkie Twilight replied, "I think she wrote we would be staying up in my old room in the castle." Sighing she remembered the years of studies and work done in that dust old room. "We should be able to get into head quarters by Tomorrow. Why do you ask?" The earth pony replied, "You just seemed a bit nervous when we were at the station. I was worried something had gone wrong." Rainbow Dash, who was sitting next to Twilight, spoke up, "You did seem a bit shaky back there, is everything OK?" Backing away slightly Twilight rubbed her forehead and began to speak but cut herself off. Shaking her head Twilight said nonchalantly, "It was just the stress of getting this whole thing together and then being late." Rarity came over with a few snacks that she had acquired from the front cart. "So, who is exited?" She said as she handed each of them a pack of peanuts. Dash shrugged, "Its not that big of a deal..." Apple Jack snickered when she heard this comment, "Really now? I could have swore not one hour ago you were running around that platform like a headless chicken." The pegasus blushed but ignored her friends, mostly because she was right. They chuckled a little before a loud voice called out, "Next stop Canterlot!" Soon the train came to a halt and they all trotted out to meet two faces. They were guards there to escort the six to the castle. When they arrived the moon had risen and the night had started. Deciding it would be best to meet the princess in the morning, Twilight showed them their room. Gasps spread between the other five as they admired the architecture of the glorious room. Most of the suits in the castle were nice but this room was for the princess' apprentice there for it had to go above and beyond. Almost up to the status of the royalties chambers. "Wow, Twi. Ah can't believe ya used to live here!" Said Apple Jack glancing at the huge hour glass. Flutter Shy trotted over and thanked her purple friend, "Thank you very much Twilight, it's so kind of you to let us stay here." Ignoring many of the others, Twilight walked over to a tiny cupboard in the corner of the room. It held many cleaning supplies and some sleeping bags. Taking the bags from the top shelf, she handed one to each of the ponies. "Now, since I didn't even want to be here all of you will sleep in the living room while I get the bedroom." Rarity was astonished at the mere thought of sleeping on the ground and was first to object. "You can't really expect us to sleep on the floor, can you?" Asked the disgusted unicorn, "it's all dusty and icky!" Twilight simply snickered and with a flash of light she vanished out of the room and was teleported into the bedroom. Collapsing onto the bed, Twilight sighed and tried to fall asleep but was awoke because of a certain voice. "So your not even going to say 'thank you', I presume!" Opening her eyelids, she saw Discord floating above her head. She turned away, not wanting to see him, and said flatly, "Do you think I'm doing the right thing?" Perplexed, he asked, "what do you mean? You seemed to be enjoying yourself quite a lot before." The alicorn sat up, leaning against the wall. "Well, you see, everypony around me is shunning Kira. Telling me he's evil and a murderer!" looking to the door, she levitated an old photograph (of herself and the princess) which hung on the wall, "I don't think its worth it... Not anymore at least. Crime is getting larger by the second and there is no way I get rid of all of it." "Do you want to relinquish ownership?" Inquired the demon. shocked, Twilight leapt from the bed and landed next to him. "What do you mean?" "Apparently, you can just give the book back and I get to do whatever I please with it!" He smirked slyly at her. Shaking her hooves frantically Twilight shouted, "No! I'll keep it! I'll take care of it myself!" Suddenly, Rainbow Dash's voice called up, "Twi, are you alright up there?" Opening the door slightly she replied nervously, "Yeah, I'm OK!" Sitting back on her bed Twilight said under her breath, "I have to get rid of this myself..." A quill scratched a scroll at the top of a large hall. Many of the investigators still stood in that hall, trying to find the slightest clue to who this masked murderer might be. A large amount of them were chugging down various cups of coffee, the brown liquid slipping down their mouths. The quill stopped. Levitating the scroll, the princess casted a simple spell making the partridge grow huge. She then explained, "this is the list of tasks for you as investigators to complete." It read: Send some of the team down to Ponyville to observe the townsfolk. Check the town square for anything that has a connection to Kira. Get in touch Saddlearbia and request their assistance. The ponies were confused to why the last order was necessary, some even getting angry. "Why do we need those ponies help?" One pony shouted out. Celestia replied calmly, "The saddlearabians are not like many of the ponies here in Equestria. We could pass them off as tourists visiting Ponyville. You are famous here and would stick out in a group, they would not." Disappointed sighs were spread between them before they agreed to the order. Eventually, the ponies had gathered up their belongings and began the trek home. One certain unicorn stayed behind and waited for the room to become clear, except for himself and Celestia. Walking ever so quietly to the front his figure became clear. A silky white coat with a ruffled grey mane. He was short- but what do you expect from a foal? His eyes opened revealing them to be the same shade as his hair. He was surprisingly calm for a pony of his age however Celestia didn't seem to bat an eye. Seating himself in one of newer chairs in the front row, he greeted in a timid voice, "Hello teacher, or should I say principle?" Walking down from the podium, the princess corrected, "Celestia should be fine, Night shine." Grinning, Night shine responded, "Very well. So, which assignment do you think is fit for me?" Stopping for a moment, Celestia looked upon the giant scroll and said, "I think we will let L decide that." Grunting, the young foal stood and began to trot to the door but not before waving goodbye. He walked slowly threw the halls of the grand castle, sometimes stopping to admire the artwork. why can't the princess just give me the work before telling everypony else thought Night shine, it would really make my life easier! Coming to a final halt, he turned and glared at his door in confusion. He could hear voices from the inside. Backing away slightly he noticed the voices had stopped and all had gone quiet. His horn was preparing an attack spell when he slammed open the door and shouted angrily, "Who's in my room?!" //-------------------------------------------------------// Night Shine the apprentice //-------------------------------------------------------// Night Shine the apprentice Shaking, Night Shine stared at the five wide eyed mares sitting in his living room. Suddenly, Pinkie Pie ran and shouted in response, "No. What are you doing in Twilight's room?” Applejack proceeded to trot over to see what was going on. Puzzled, Night Shine stared at the two, trying desperately to understand. "It just seems there has been a little mix up in the rooms! You're visiting too right?" Asked Applejack. The colt slammed his hoof on the floor in anger, "I have had this room for over two years now! It just so happens that five mares are in it! I have every right to call the royal guard right now!" Rainbow flew over, "You're a little hot headed for a clot, aren't you?" "Only when there are random ponies in my room!" There was a loud bang as the upper bedroom door opened and an alicorn shouted down, "Can you keep it down? I'm trying to.... read!" Rarity swiftly ran up the stairs and caught hold of Twilight's hoof. "It seems we have a little problem with the rooms. There is a little colt downstairs who says this is his." Twilight grunted with annoyance but still trotted down the stairs to see what had happened. When she joined them, Night Shine and Rainbow were in a full-fledged argument. "HEY, can we please calm down. Let the kid in or something." "Finally!" Screamed Night Shine, Pushing the cyan Pegasus aside. He sat down on the one of the dining chairs. "Now if you would care to explain!" Pinkie pie was the first to sit down. "In Pinkamena Diane Pie the element of laughter!" Explained the excited pony, "Rarity is over there with Fluttershy, they are the elements of Generosity and Kindness. Applejack is honesty. The pegasus flying above you is Rainbow Dash, the element of loyalty." "The one and only!" Dash interupted. Pulling the alicorn next to her Pinkie ended, "last but certainly not least, this is our leader Princess Twilight Sparkle, her element is magic!" The colt froze for a moment. "You mean the Twilight Sparkle?" "Well duh!" Pinkie Pie responded. Stepping away from his chair, Night Shine explained, "Well, I guess I can't throw a princess out on the street. You can stay. I'm Night Shine, by the way." What's this kid’s deal? One minute he looks like he is about to kill me, the next he treats me like we've known each other for years "Um, if you wouldn't mind could we by any chance stay here? You see-" "No. I never said they could stay. I guess you can stay but the others can't."  Shaking his head, Night trotted toward the staircase with a smug expression, "I expect those ponies out of here in about... twenty minutes. Otherwise let’s just say you'll be spending the night at the police station." "Hey, we were invited here by the princess!" Bellowed Rainbow Dash in reply, "And this used to be Twilights room!" "And I don't think going into a room you were given is illegal!" Added Rarity. "I'm not listening!" Said Night Shine just before slamming the door with his magic. Fluttershy, who had been relatively quiet throughout this argument, flew up to the door and knocked furiously on it. When it was finally opened she said, "Listen here you... you bully! My friends and I were invited here by the princess of the Sun herself, who has higher authority in Equestria then you ever wish to have! Now it's either you let us stay here or let's just say princess Twilight will be saying a few things to Celestia!" "Not much of a threat when I happen to be Princess Luna's apprentice! I'm actually on good terms with Celestia." He then closed the door in Fluttershy's face. And with that the conversation was over and the mares accepted their defeat. Within ten minutes the other five had packed up their things and were about to leave. "Are ya sure that ya don't wanna come with us? That colt seems like one rotten Apple!" Asked Applejack. "Really, I don't trust that kid but there is something about him. Something strange…" Twilight looked up to the door, just to make sure he wasn't listening, "if you meet me here in the morning I'll tell you if I find anything out." After the others had left, Discord made himself visible. "What do you mean you don't trust him?" "I just don't. I feel like he's working against me!" "You as Twilight, or you as Kira?" "Both?" Said a confused Twilight, "I've just got to figure out how though." And I don't think he's just going to tell me like that. After having a quick snack, Twilight decided to go talk to the colt upstairs. While trying to force her biggest smile, the princess pushed open the door and greeted, "Hey there, buddy!" Night shine sat in the center of the room playing with some toys. He looked up for a split second but kept playing. Annoyed, Twilight seated herself next to him, "You're mood changes pretty quickly, huh?" "I guess so..." he said as if not interested in the slightest. Levitating one of the figures he explained, "This is Dr. Hooves and that's Rose. They’re trying to solve something..." "Interesting." Silence swept over them for a few minutes, the only sounds were the figures against the wood floor. Twilight sighed and went back down. "He sort of reminds me of you, Twilight or many that Maud character." Remarked Discord. "He is nothing like me!" Simultaneously, Night got up and put his ear to the door and listened. There was a voice coming from the living room and it was not Twilight’s. Who are you talking to? //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 6 //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 6 Five mares wandered around the corridors of Canterlot Castle. But one pony in particular was quite fired up, Rainbow Dash. "I still can't believe he kicked us out!" she said as they left the castle. "Well, we did go into his room without permission," replied Fluttershy timidly, "which makes me wonder why Celestia didn't tell us there was another pony living there in the first place." "I think trying to understand Celestia is like bucking a dead tree. You can do it for as long as you want but isn't gonna get you anywhere," Reasoned Applejack while she looked at one of the tall trees in the royal garden - which they had trotted into after leaving the castle. "Anyway, we have worse things to worry about," she continued. "Like where we're going to sleep tonight." All of them thought for a moment and of course it was Pinkie Pie who broke the silence. Jumping up and down, she pointed to a large building beyond the courtyard, "Look, look!" she shouted, "There's a hotel over there! If we all pitch in we might be able to get a room big enough for the five of us." Rarity reached into her bag and presented ten bits, "I brought twenty bits just in case I saw some fabric I needed back at the boutique. I suppose you can use half of them." Applejack gave seven, Pinkie Pie gave ten, Fluttershy gave five and Rainbow Dash gave eight. "And that brings us to a total of...  Forty bits! That's more than enough! Let's go!" Pronounced the white unicorn as she gathered up the money and started her way into the streets of Canterlot. Night shine stood with his ear to the door, trying to listen in on the conversation between Twilight and the mysterious voice. He could only hear the occasional word and even that was greatly muffled. "This isn't fair! How come whenever I want to hear something it's so quiet and when I'm studying everypony and their mom is screaming in my ear!" Huffing, Night levitated his figurines back into the cases and placed them onto the highest shelf! His room was dusty and had spiderwebs in almost every corner. Unhappy with the amount of mess, he reluctantly retired to his bed.  Imagine what the princess would think! I'll tidy up tomorrow, hopefully... He finally closed his eyes and started to drift off into a deep sleep but was awoken by a loud yet slow creaking noise. He tightened his eyelids trying to ignore the pony standing in the doorway. "Hi! I made you something," Twilight held some blueberries and two daisies which were placed delicately on a china plate. I swear if she says one mo- "Night Shine?” The colt sat up in a flash, "WHY ARE YOU WAKING ME UP AT...?" He looked at the clock next to his bed, "TWO IN THE MORNING!" Twilight hung her head and tried to act sad, "You see, when you came in you ran up here so fast you didn't have time to get something to eat. So, I figured I would be a good guest and make you dinner!" Night Shine turned his head and said smugly, "I had something to eat at the meeting. Anyway, I doubt anything you made could be even remotely nice!" The alicorn's ears perked up when she heard the remark about the meeting. "Meeting? What meeting? Was it an important one?" She asked frantically. "I work with my mentor and her sister on the Kira investigation. Now I wonder why you would ask that. Well, now that you have helped me in no way can you lea-" "Why the hay is a COLT taking part in the KIRA investigation?" Tired of Twilight's strange behavior, Night sighed and explained, "I used to attend an academy that trains young colts and fillies to find the right jobs that correspond with their cutie marks. Due to me being a black flank it was a great difficulty getting in.” "My grandparents worked a few extra shifts and soon enough i was being sent to the lowest tear classes in the investigator course! I was able to choose my classes and investigation seemed interesting. I showed potential so I was moved up a tear.” "To my surprise, Princess Luna herself flagged me down and I was accepted into personal classes with her. When the Kira thing came up the princesses were some of the top ponies for the job and since I'm Luna's apprentice I was allowed to help!" Twilight sat at the side of the bed, having long forgotten about the food, her mouth a wide gape. However, she pulled herself out of it fairly quickly. Shaking her head, Twilight stood up and asked before leaving the room, "So is that it?..." "Get out." Night said, unamused.
