The New Jem
Getting Out Of The House
Load Full StoryNext ChapterCrystal Feather was sitting at her Golden Oak desk that was saved from the aftermath of Twilight’s home, working on her latest story, “It’s A Love Story.” Crystal was feeling a little heartbroken after what had happened a few weeks ago, she was dating a Pegasus stallion with the name of Rumble. He begrudgingly told Crystal, “There is another mare in my life that can commit. Can we still be friends?”
Being her kind self, she said that they could, while inside it was tearing her apart. The only thing that she could’ve looked forward to that day was writing and nothing more. Stardella had come to her house to comfort her, but none the less, nothing Stardella did helped Crystal in anyway.
Soon, there was a knock on her door, Crystal Feather got up from the desk and opened the door. There stood Stardella with two tickets floating by her head.
“What do you want Star? I’m still having trouble coming to sense that Rumble isn’t mine anymore.” Crystal informed.
“That’s what I am here for. Crystal, you NEED to get out of the house and meet some pony new. I have a job at the local theatre here for a new play, I got you a pass to come to the back of the theatre with me.” Stardella explained.
“I’m not going.”
“I thought that you would say that, that’s why I’m dragging you there.”
“Fine I’ll help. But if I see anything that reminds me of Rumble, you better take me home!”
“Promise.”
Stardella grabbed Crystal by the hoof and literally dragged her to the theatre. Stardella signed in so then she was getting paid to set up the play. The both of them were holding a sign when Crystal heard a familiar voice.
Damen?
Crystal Feather seemed to be in a trance, she wasn’t moving, and she was just staring out in a distance.
“Crystal?!” Stardella snapped.
Crystal shook her head getting out of her trance, “I’ll be right back Star. I hear a familiar voice, and I want to clarify if it’s my mind playing tricks, or if it is real.”
“Don’t go too far Crystal.”
Crystal walked towards the voice that she heard; down the halls to the dressing rooms, Crystal found a golden star with Damen’s name on it. Crystal knocked on the door, soon being opened by the white unicorn with a cinnamon brown mane and tail.
“Oh my Celestia Crystal you’re here?!” Damen greeted.
“Uh, hi Damen… Uh… Yeah, hi.” Crystal responded.
“What are you doing here, wouldn’t you be at home writing?”
“Well, I had just gone through a break up and I was in my house for too long. Stardella just dragged me out to get me to at least be out of there. She’s setting up the play here. Are you in the play?”
“Yes, but I only have a couple of lines to say. It isn’t Romeo and Juliet, but it gets the money in.”
“Oh…”
There was a long silence in the group. Crystal was in a trance, Damen was Crystal’s high school crush years ago, but she could never talk to him normally. She knew him back in elementary school, but never really liked him at all. It was the opposite between the both of them, Damen would trot up to Crystal and her friend¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ Stardella; but then would trot away as he tried to speak to Crystal. Then in High School Crystal was that way, she couldn’t talk to Damen at all without squealing.
“Were you going to stay for the play tonight?” Damen ended the silence.
“No, I wasn’t planning on it. I have my writings to do, but I could stay if you want me to.” Crystal responded.
“Well, I could get you and Stardella a ticket with special seats and a special meet.”
“That would be cool Damen. Thank you.”
“No problem Crystal, it’s what I would do for an old friend.” Damen blushed.
“I have to go back to Stardella, she must be thinking about me right now. It was nice to see you.”
“Nice to see you too Crystal. Can’t wait to see you tonight.”
Damen closed his dressing room door and Crystal went back to Stardella with a smile on her face.
“What happened while you were gone?! You have a smile! Did you meet a stallion?” Stardella asked.
“Damen is here in the play and he has invited you and I to watch him in special spots and we get to go backstage!” Crystal responded.
“That’s amazing Crystal. I think some pony likes you.”
“No he doesn’t. I’m not like him, I’m too shy to even be on a stage. I can’t be like him.”
“Crystal, not every pony that dates has to be the same. There might be some kind of connection between the both of you that neither of us can see, but he can. Yes Damen is an actor, but you love him for that, and you write. He might like that about you.”
“I wouldn’t worry about it Star. I don’t think he is into a not famous pony like me.”
“If he says that he likes you at some point in your life, don’t say that I didn’t tell you so.”
Crystal Feather rolled her eyes, “Do you still have some stuff to do?”
“No, I’m all finished here Crystal, you can go home.” Stardella responded.
Crystal left the theatre and went home to prepare for the night. Dressed in a beautiful satin gown and her mane all dolled up.
Nightfall came, Crystal headed back to the theatre and waited for Damen at the doors. Soon he came around the corner and saw her.
“Glad you could come Crystal. Where is your friend Stardella?” Damen asked.
“She couldn’t make it, I tried to get her to come, but she wouldn’t” Crystal lied.
“Well, okay then, I’ll give this ticket back to my boss so then he could raffle it off. Come with me Crystal.” Damen grabbed Crystal’s hoof, “I’ll take you to your seat.”
Damen’s holding my hoof! Could Stardella be right?
Damen lead Crystal to the stage where there was a comfortable chair with a wonderful view of the performance.
“Is this where I’ll be sitting?” Crystal asked.
“Yes, I made sure that you get the best seat in the house. I explained to my boss what I wanted for you, and he made it happen.” Damen responded.
“Thank you Damen. Can any pony see me?”
“No, no pony can see you. I remembered that you are shy and told him to position it to where no pony could just see you.”
Crystal smiled, Damen knew that she didn’t like being seen by other ponies, and how shy she was.
“Damen! 5 seconds to curtain!” Damen’s boss snapped.
“Coming!” Damen responded, “I have to go Crystal. Enjoy the show.”
“I will Damen, thank you.” Crystal responded.
Damen trotted away and Crystal sat down at her spot. Watching the play, it was a wonderful little play. Not like the ones that Damen did back in high school, but they were good.
When the play ended, Damen went on the stage and looked out into the audience.
“Thank you all so much for coming tonight, we do appreciate it. But there is one more thing that I want to do. I want to ask my friend Crystal Feather to come up on the stage and stand next to me. I’ll protect her.”
Crystal froze! Damen was looking straight at her, waving her to come. Crystal followed by slowly getting on the stage, standing beside Damen.
“This is my friend Crystal Feather, she is an amazing writer. But has never had any of her stories published, but as the publishers all say that her stories are no good, they are good stories. They can’t see the quality in the stories that she puts in them. Anyways, I want her to sing with me.”
One of the actresses in the play handed Crystal a microphone and trotted away. Crystal looked out into the crowd and saw the plethora of ponies in the theatre. Damen wrapped his hoof around Crystal’s neck.
“Don’t worry Crystal, I’m right here for you.” Damen whispered into Crystal’s ear.
The music started, Damen started to sing.
[Fluttershy (male voice)]
[doo-wop-style scatting]
[The Ponytones]
[harmonizing]
[Fluttershy (male voice)]
Trot outside and you see the sunshine
Something's in the air today
Sky is clear and you're feelin' so fine
Everything's gonna be a-okay
[Toe-Tapper and Torch Song]
If you listen carefully
On every corner there's a rhythm playing
[Toe-Tapper and Rarity]
Then it happens suddenly
The music takes you over and you'll
[The Ponytones]
Find you've got the music
Got the music in you
Find you've got the music
Got the music in you
[Fluttershy (male voice)]
Oh, o-o-oh
Everypony's sayin' you should learn to express your voice
But if talk doesn't seem like it's the answer
[The Ponytones]
Luckily you have a choice
When you find you've got the music
Got the music in you
Find you've got the music
Got the music in you
Got the music, got the music in you!
Crystal looked out into the crowd after the singing stopped started to calm down from her nerves. The crowd stomped their hooves on the ground chanting, “Crystal and Damen!”
Crystal Feather smiled, then quickly trotted off the stage.
“Wait Crystal I have something to tell you!” Damen yelled galloping towards her.
When Damen reached Crystal, she looked at his eyes, “What do you want Damen?”
“I just want to tell you what I should’ve told you a long time ago.”
“What?”
Damen placed his hoof onto Crystal’s face and kissed her on the lips, “I have had a crush on you for a long time. You may think that this is so ridiculous of me, falling in love with a writer. Ever since the third grade, I have always loved you Crystal. I just never had the guts to say it. I bet you now that you hate me.”
Crystal grabbed Damen’s hoof, “I’ve had a crush on you since the beginning of high school.”
Damen smiled, “You should get home Crystal. Can I have dinner with you in a couple of weeks?”
“Sure. I would love that.”
“Then it’s a date Crystal. I just want to say that, I would love to be the stallion of your dreams, I just hope I’m the right one for you.”
Crystal smiled and then trotted out into the night, on her way home. When she got there, she grabbed her phone and called Rainbow Dash. Rainbow was the only mare that she could trust to help her out with love.
“Hello?” Rainbow Dash answered.
“Hey Dashie, its Crystal.” Crystal responded.
“Hey squirt! How’s life going for you?”
“Well, I have met another stallion. I can’t even explain to you how much I love him. It’s like an indescribable kind of love spark.”
