Chapter 1

Why did it have to be her? Why couldn't they have sent Rarity? They sent the only pony that has ever made me feel this way. The only pony who I care what they thought of me. I wanted to protect her from that side of me. I wanted her to just think of me as that naïve, happy-go-lucky mare who was always comfortable in any situation. Pinkie thought to herself whilst hiding inside a pile of hay.

“Pinkie! Where did you go?” The instigator of all of this internal turmoil. Of course Pinkie couldn't blame her for being so brave, cool, cute, and absolutely badass. It wasn't her fault that the way her radiant mane and tail streaked its many hues left Pinkie positively starstruck. “Pinkie Pie? Why did you just bolt away from me? All I said was 'Hi'” Rainbow continued.

Yeah, thats all it takes to make me spook that hard. Why can't she see how weak and shallow I really am? I mean, I had replaced all my friends with a bucket of turnips, a dust bunny, a pile of rocks, and Madame le Fleur—I mean a bag of flour—just because I made the crazy guess that they had all abandoned me. Which in hindsight made 0 sense! Rainbow Dash was the only one who knew about this side, yet her she was still searching for me.

“Pinkie?” Rainbow asked, slightly dejected. She looked up at the setting sun and mumbled quietly, but not so quiet that Pinkie couldn't hear, “I guess I'll check the bakery tomorrow.” And with that she turned around and flew up into the sky.

Pinkie sighed. Finally, the sooner she learns to stay away forever, the better. For her own sake. She even convinced herself that was how she felt, but there was this tiny part of Pinkie, so tiny she couldn't recognize she even felt it, that wanted her to stay. That part that wanted her to drop everything and come looking for her, so she could confess her undying love for her. Then, Rainbow would put her hooves on both sides of pinkie's face, slowly stroking one hoof down her cheek. Rainbow would lean in ever so slightly and then—MOO! Pinkie looked to see a cow holding her tail in its teeth. Pinkie's surprised look faded into one of disappointment. Oh how Pinkie loved to torture herself by letting those fantasies run their course. During the fantasy, it feels just too good to stop, kind of like eating cupcakes. When you're eating the cupcakes, 9 doesn't seem that big of a number, but afterward, when you're flying around like a rocket and falling ill to the notorious sugar coma, It seems like all the apples in Sweet Apple Acres were cupcakes and pinkie had gobbled all of them up super super fast. At this point Pinkie had climbed out of the haypile and was sitting a few feet away from it, looking at Celestia's sun as it deepened in colour and faded farther and farther out of sight and into space
Just like Pinkie's Pinkie nature.

Pinkie's internal clock woke her up at 8 o'clock. She went into her bathroom and looked in the mirror at herself. Her mane wasn't as poofy as it usually was. It wasn't full Pinkamena either, thankfully. But she felt Pinkamena waiting patiently for a chance to emerge. So, in other words, Pinkie Pie was a land mine.

She dressed herself in a Sugar Cube Corner apron and walked down the stairs. Throughout the morning many of her friends walked in and out, but I suppose that is a given since all of Ponyville was her friend. Many of the ponies noticed Pinkie's slight discolouration. None inquired about it, much less try to help. When Pinkie was sad, most people just tried to ignore it as much as possible, except one pony. And this very pony was the most determined to help her friend. I suppose you couldn't ask any less from the Element of Loyalty.

“There you are Pinkie Pie!” A raspy voice that normally made Pinkie swoon, made Pinkie freeze, “I've been looking everywhere for you,” I know. “I'm glad you're ok”

Pinkie smiled about as wide as Fluttershy does. It made her happy that Rainbow cared about her safety. Not happy enough to forget about anything though. Suddenly Pinkie remembered something. It was Applejack's birthday! “Hey Dashie?” Pinkie asked shyly.

Rainbow looked pinkie in the eye to give her full attention.

Pinkie's eyes darted to the floor to escape the concentration of the beautiful magenta eyes, “Uh, it's Applejack's birthday today, and of course there will be a party tonight, so uh, you're invited of course...”

“Awesome! I'll so be there!” Rainbow exclaimed

Pinkie's heart soared to hear Rainbow being so Rainbow.

“Wait!” Rainbow's face scrunched up, “Tonight-tonight?”

Pinkie nodded her head.

“Ah! I have tryout with the Wonderbolts! Sorry, but this is waay more important than some birthday party!” She said puffing out her chest in the most adorable way. Rainbow was just hopping all around the land mine. Rainbow dash looked over at Pinkie. Pinkie's look of utter and complete despair fell and was replaced with the most fake smile ponyly possible. Luckily, Rainbow was too focused being pumped to notice. “I've got to go practice” And with that Rainbow flew out of the bakery. Pinkie sighed and as she sighed, her mane fell just a little bit flatter.
