Revenge
The Last Day: Chapter 1
Load Full StorySunset Shimmer sighed as she stared at the doors of Canterlot High. It had felt like just yesterday she had went through those doors and caused eyes of all different colors to stare at her.
It'd be exactly six years since she moved to the human world, and it'd been exactly six years since she had used pure unicorn magic.
Eventually, after a few years, everyone stopped talking about the events of the night of the Fall Formal. Though, every once in awhile, a student would mention it. Sunset Shimmer would usually leave the room whenever that happened.
It was the most embarrassing day of her human life, getting defeated by her enemy in front of the whole school. No one left her alone after that. Whether it was to shame her for doing such a thing, or to ask her how 'awesome' it was to be all-powerful, not a single person in that whole school didn't mention it in front of her. Especially Flash Sentry, after that night he didn't even want to be in the same classroom as her.
She managed to make a few friends after that night, Twilight's friends didn't really count though. The only reason they wanted to talk to her was to make Twilight happy and so they could keep an eye on her. Rarity didn't trust her to come into her shop, and Applejack didn't let her anywhere near her apples. Fluttershy let her help with the animals, but always made sure that Sunset Shimmer kept a respectable distance away from them.
The only real friends she was able to make were Trixie and some transfer student named Lightning Dust. They both shared the same bossy attitude as Sunset, and together they were able to pull (harmless) pranks on other students throughout the school year.
Sunset Shimmer snapped out of her train of thought as she realizes that a few students were standing behind her, wanting to go inside the school for class.
"Sorry," she mumbled as she carefully opened the glass door, not bothering to keep it from hitting the person behind hers face.
Sunset Shimmer's shoes made a sound with every footstep through the hall, relaxing her.
The halls were crowded, despite the fact that most classes had already started.
Sunset made her way through the crowds, trying to avoid getting hit by another student and loosing her books in the crowd.
In her arms, she carried three books; Equestrian Culture: Training Your Baby Dragon, Elements of Friendship, and Pony Magic.
Today was her last day of school. By this, it didn't mean that Summer Vacation was coming. It meant that it would of been thirty moons since the portal had opened last, and that the portal would be opening the next day.
Ever since the night that Twilight left her in the human world, Sunset Shimmer had been planning to go through the portal once more and return home. She wasn't quite sure what she would do or what she could do, but she knew that she needed revenge.
It had always been her dream to rule Equestria alongside Celestia, but Twilight Sparkle had already taken that place. She didn't quite get why Celestia refused to teach her what she taught Twilight, but for whatever reason, she was going to find out.
As far as she knew, Sunset Shimmer was as good of a student as Twilight, maybe even better.
But the past was the past, Sunset didn't care about knowing how much Celestia payed attention to her during those years of her being Celestia's student. All she cared about now was getting what she wanted all those years ago; Equestria.
Honestly, Sunset Shimmer never really had any truly evil intentions for Equestria at first. They only turned evil when she found out that an evil heart was what it took to get what she wanted.
When she found herself at the door to her classroom, she snapped out of her thoughts once again and entered the room as quietly as humanely possible, she was late and didn't want to be the center of attention.
"Mrs. Shimmer," the teacher said crossly. "You know, you show up late so often, that I actually forgot that you attended this class."
Sunset Shimmer grunted, then sat down at her desk. "Yeah, yeah, I know. You give me this rant every morning."
The gray-haired teacher straightened his large glasses, "Luckily for you, we actually haven't started class yet. We were giving a moment of silence for the passing of Pipsqueak's grandfather." He sighed, "You kind of interrupted the moment."
Pip raised his hand, and the teacher gave him a nod, motioning that it was okay for him to speak. "Mr. Discord, it's quite alright. Vinyl's loud music leaking from her headphones ruined it more than her,"
In the corner of the classroom sat Vinyl with her feet up on her desk, listening to loud dub-step and oblivious to the conversation in the real world.
The conversation continued, allowing Sunset Shimmer to zone out for a moment. When it ended, Mr. Discord coughed to get the classrooms attention.
As the teacher told them all about physics, Sunset Shimmer zoned out and decided to go over her plan for Equestrian Domination.
First, she would enter the portal. That would be easy, other than the fact that the school probably has guards at night. She'd have to be quick.
The hardest part is going to be getting used to magic again. She hadn't used magic for over six years, and the magic that she used on the Fall Formal wasn't real unicorn magic. She needed to preform a spell that would change her appearance, but her magic might be a bit... rusty. So, before Sunset would cast the spell, she would use a simple spell to summon a dragon egg and hatch the dragon egg. This spell was difficult for foals, but for a pony that was trained by Celestia herself, it was like icing a cake. A really big cake.
Plus a bonus; she would get a dragon companion!
After she casts the spell to change her appearance so nopony recognizes her, she would stay in the shadows until she found a way to defeat Celestia and take over Equestria.
She hadn't really thought out anything more than that. It would be easier for her to plan things out when she was already there, so she'd wait till then.
Sunset Shimmer would have to keep from using magic, considering Twilight would get suspicious if she saw a unicorn as powerful as herself in Ponyville. She decided to stay in Ponyville to keep a close eye on Twilight Sparkle and her friends, though at first she was considering staying in Canterlot.
After awhile, class ended and Sunset Shimmer left to attend her next class. This repeated until lunch, the time of day that every student had been waiting for.
While she was waiting for the lunch lady to give her a foe burger, Lightning Dust came up to her and bumped her on the shoulder. "Whatcha doin', Nerd?"
Nerd had been her nickname for Sunset Shimmer ever since she saw her walking down the hall with a pile of books for the first time. It didn't annoy Sunset in the least, for she knew that Dust didn't mean it hurtfully.
"What does it look like?" Sunset answered with a raised eyebrow.
"...Planning world domination?" Dust guessed, grinning.
"Maybe I am," Sunset giggled. "Have you seen Trixie around?"
Surely enough, at the end of the line, Trixie said, "The Great and Powerful Trixie is right here!"
Trixie was, by far, the most boastful of the group. As Dust had said before; Sunset Shimmer was the diva, Trixie was the show-off, and she was the daredevil.
Sunset Shimmer was happy with her spot as the diva of the group. It suit her well.
"Hi, Trix!" Sunset called back to her friend, frowning when she realized that this was the last time that she would see the two. Sure, they had pony counterparts, but neither of those counterparts had the same bond that their human counterparts had with Sunset Shimmer.
It would be easy for her to form a bond with them in the pony world, considering how easy it was for Twilight and her friends to bond, but it still wouldn't be the same.
After both Dust and Sunset got their food, all three of them sat down at their table.
"I'm moving tomorrow, you know," Sunset casually hinted as she took a bite of her foe burger.
"YOU CAN'T!" Trixie shouted, then blushed at her own sudden outburst. "I-I mean... you can't leave! The group won't be the same without our diva!"
"She's right," Lightning Dust said with a piece of pizza in her mouth. "Wait, are your parents forcing you to leave?!"
Sunset Shimmer couldn't tell her friends everything. They didn't know that she didn't have parents in this world, and they knew nothing about her life in Equestria or her plans. It was for the best, since Trixie had been known to gossip and Lightning Dust couldn't keep her mouth shut.
"N-no, it isn't my parents. I'm actually moving out of my parents house," Sunset Shimmer lied, hoping that it was convincing enough.
This was a time that she was glad that she wasn't talking to Pinkie Pie. Pinkie would of known she was lying easily.
"Oh," Lightning Dust sighed, putting down her pizza. "I don't think that I'm that hungry anymore."
The three continued talking until the bell rang, "Well, I guess I'll see you guys after school." Sunset Shimmer tried to smile, but to no avail.
"Yeah, bye." Dust wasn't showing any signs of sadness, but Trixie on the other hand was close to sobbing.
"You can't leave us!" Trixie shouted, "You're part of the group!"
On the way to class, Lightning Dust comforted Trixie, and Sunset Shimmer ignored Trixie's begging for her to stay.
If Sunset Shimmer was going to go through with this, she had to learn to let go.
All those years ago she had let go of something much bigger than two friends; she let go of her advanced studies, her magic, her friends, her family, her world, and much more...
But it was all worth it. She was going to get what she wanted, all she had to do was wait.
Sunset Shimmer turned the key to her apartment, she had just got done having dinner at Trixie's house with Lightning Dust. It would be the last time they saw each other. That left a regretful feeling in the bottom of Sunset Shimmer's stomach.
She didn't bother to take off her shoes before she jumped into her bed, ready to get rest for the morning to come.

"Why not?" Sunset Shimmer pouted as she stomped a hoof to the ground.
"Because you aren't ready for it yet," Celestia informed her. "You will be ready when your time comes, my student."
Sunset Shimmer teleported onto the top of the bookshelf and back, then her horn lit up, causing fireworks in the shape of her cutie mark to appear in the night sky.
Next, she levitated every book from every bookshelf in the room and caused them to form a book-fort made entirely of books.
She then used a spell to turn the simple book-fort into a dog house, "Princess, I think that I'm ready. Why can you not see that?"
"Talent does not equal maturity, Sunset Shimmer." Celestia stated firmly. "You *aren't ready to know about dark magic, nor the Elements of Harmony."*
Sunset Shimmer's horn lit up, "You're just saying that, princess! You know that I'm ready, but you just don't want to tell me about it because you are a terrible teacher!"
The words that just came out of the mares mouth struck Princess Celestia in the heart like a bullet.
"C-calm down, Sunset Shimmer."
"NO!" She screamed, then cast a spell, causing vines to grow out of the castle floor, surrounding herself.
Celestia quickly preformed a counter spell, weakening the vines and causing them to shrivel up and die.
"Stop." Celestia said with no sympathy remaining in her voice.

Sunset Shimmer awoken, her face red with anger.
Her hand reached to her dresser, grabbing a hairbrush. She threw it at the mirror, causing it to shatter and break.
"I'm coming for you, Princess." Sunset Shimmer muttered with nothing in her tone but hate and anger.
