"A quiet night, is it not?"
Princess Luna's words hung in an air already rife with tension for reasons other than the abnormally vacant Night Court. For one, the Moon Princess herself was perched upon the extravagant throne with a mischievous grin and half-lidded eyes. Such a countenance would make the hair on the back of anypony's neck stand on end. Even her two personal bat-pony guards in attendance, Doom and Gloom, were stunned by the utter flirtatiousness in her mannerisms. They watched as a levitated teacup was sipped from slowly and deliberately, behind which she would strategically hide her coy expression. Furthermore, she was decidedly bare, her obligatory shoes, crest, and crown nowhere to be found.
Luna's relatively rhetorical question had been her only utterance since ordering to lock the throne room doors. That was some minutes ago, at a time when the Court should have officially convened.
Princess Luna was not stupid and neither were Doom and Gloom. How could a proper court session commence if entry was barred?
Why, it would not, Luna mused to herself.
Tonight's dignitaries would be stopped by a phalanx of Celestia's guard posted at one of the castle's outer gates, headed by the Solar Princess's personal assistant Raven. The bespectacled mare would pass along the unfortunate news that Her Majesty the Princess of the Moon had taken ill for the evening.
And so the aforementioned Lunar Princess sat on her royal tush, her eyes darting between the twin stallions posted at the main door at the far side of the chamber. She inwardly praised their dedication, considering their predicament. Indeed, amongst the subtle rustling when Luna would shift against the velveteen cushion of her seat, occasionally the stare-down would be intercepted by a stray grunt or whimper from one of the guards. They were presently incapacitated, in a sense. The bat-ponies bowed their heads in reverence. Luna tapped the throne again to rouse their attention.
"With me."
The twins stepped up to level of the throne. The margins were normally reserved for Luna herself if she happened to be attending one of Celestia's court rulings. Gloom glanced nervously at his brother, who seemed to be captivated by some detail about the pillow Luna sat upon. Namely, the dark wet spot. Gloom gulped louder than he wished to.
"Sit," Luna said simply, her snout upturned and her eyes peering down at the two subservient males. They kept to her left and right, awkwardly sitting down on their haunches and trying to focus on an immaterial point off in the distance. Princess Luna lied back against the plush cushion of the throne. She kicked her back legs out in front of her in a casual pose.

Doom was the first to move in, clutching to her side and straddling his leg around hers. When she came stomping down to find out what in Equestria was happening at Night Court, she found Raven wide awake and attempting to head her off.
"Raven, I am not going to repeat myself." Celestia ground her teeth through her scowl.
"V-Very well Princess," Raven stuttered, "but . . . you may witness some rather disturbing-"
She was interrupted by the clash of the double doors' bolts sliding out of place as Celestia magicked open the entrance.
Celestia's spiritless visage never once faltered as she surveyed the havoc within. It appeared that her younger sister Luna was nude and cuddled up to her bodyguards, who were equally nude, on the floor. All parties, as well as the carpeting, the throne, and some of the tapestries were showered with an anomalous liquid. The stink of ammonia was unmistakable.
Slowly Celestia pressed her hoof to her face.
"Not again," she lamented.
"Princess?" Raven hesitated.
"Oh, Mother protect us . . ."
Celestia walked off, looking even more tired than before. She turned back to Raven briefly.
"Just make sure it's clean by morning."
