Unyielding Powers
An unexpected power
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTrotting down the road, following behind Twilight, Rainbow Dash seemed to be sizing me up. It became annoying having her so close to my body that I had to say something, "You're a little too close. Not that I don't like you, but do you mind giving me some space?" I said in an annoyed tone.
"Oh! Sorry, my bad. Just wondering what makes you tick." she said.
I turned to her, "Well you can find out once we get a table and I tell you. Or did you forget already that I'm buying you and Miss Twilight lunch?" I asked, bored. She rolled her eyes at me and kept walking. Throughout the silence I conjured a book to read as we walked, the title was: Pyro Philosophy - The Many Ways to Bend Fire to Your Will.
Twilight was obviously curious as to why I was reading such a book, because she slowed herself to my pace and began reading alongside me. I looked over and was surprised when she asked, "Why are you reading about Pyrokinesis? A bit of a strange choice if you ask me."
"Well, no offence, but I didn't ask you. Also, I am researching it as my next subject to master for the Princess. I'm actually on the verge of completion. I just need a bit more time." I explained as we walked. Rainbow scoffed at my explanation and started to ignore me. Twilight, however, was still reading the book. "If you want I can loan you a copy from the library at my house." I offered and her ears perked up.
"You have a library in your own home? That sounds interesting. Mind if I take a look later today?" she asked, "I live in a library and just want to see yours." she stated. I nodded and teleported the book away. I looked into her eyes and saw the hunger for knowledge that I had seen earlier and heard so much about from Celestia.
I then turned to a building that was standing in front of our group. "Is this where you wish to have lunch?" I questioned and Twi nodded, "Well then let's go."
It was a simple little café in the middle of town. I had not noticed until now that other ponies were staring at me. Questionable looks from everypony told me that I was new to the residence. 'I knew I looked a bit strange, but this is ridiculous. Why are they all staring at me?'
Suddenly, a pink blur made its existence known by smashing into my left side and pinning me to the ground. I let out a pained 'oof' and could no longer move my being. I then opened my eyes which had closed upon impact and saw two judging eyes of a cheerful blue color. Staring angrily down at me was the pink mare from earlier. "Hello, what's your name?" I had asked my attacker who then had a beaming smile on her face.
"Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie. You seem nice so I guess me hurting you was a bit uncalled for." she said still beaming with happiness. She then shouted, "It's okay everypony! He's not a threat!" The other ponies then went back to their business and about their day.
Twilight held out a lavender hoof and looked as if she had done something wrong. I took her hoof and she helped me off the ground. "I sorry about Pinkie. She can get out of hoof at times. I should have warned you." She looked downcast, I had to say something.
"Everything's alright, it wasn't your fault. In fact, I'll let you browse through my library later and you can take any books you want."
The idea was apparently very appealing to her and she looked ecstatic. All of a sudden, she hugged me. Right in the middle of the road. I was shocked to say the least, but then she pulled away, blushing furiously.
"I'm going on a limb here and guessing you've never hugged a stallion before." she nodded, not meeting my gaze. 'I have to admit, she is pretty cute.' I thought. 'Maybe she wouldn't mind if I asked her out sometime later in the week.' I was ripped from my thoughts by Rainbow Dash who had cleared her throat. I then returned my attention to the building in front of us and opened the door for the girls to enter. With our new edition, Pinkie Pie.
Our group had gotten a table and we started to chat idly with each other. Twilight thought she would be funny by testing my knowledge, so she and I engaged in a game of wits. Throwing question after question to each other until she conceded defeat. "Wow," she said stunned, "I didn't think anyone was as smart as me. Or as quick to answer a question."
"That only proves my case as to being one of Celestia's top students." I stated proudly, "I know a whole lot more than that by the way."
Rainbow Dash then cleared her throat, catching our attention, "Okay, so we know your smart. But there's still a question that I need answered."
"Ok", I said, "shoot."
"Can you beat me in an eating contest?" she challenged.
We sat there in silence, both staring at each other as if to read the others mind. In which I actually did. 'Let's see if his physical body is as good as his mind.' she thought to herself. 'If he accepts, then I'll get to show him up.'
"Well if that's your only reason, why bother challenging me?" I said, surprising her.
"What do you mean?" she asked liked she didn't know what I was talking about.
"Oh don't play dumb with me Dash. If you want to see if you can show me up, then bring it on." I said in a cocky tone. She looked at me like I was crazy. Until Twilight spoke up that is.
"Wait a minute! Did you read her mind?" she questioned profusely, to which I nodded. "Okay, I'll believe you if you can tell me what I'm thinking right now."
I looked to her and said simply, "That's a good question. Why would somepony make up a device like that? What is the purpose of a machine such as that?" I asked sharing her curiosity. She just looked at me in awe.
"Okay, I don't care if you can read minds. Are you going to accept my eating challenge or not?"
I then proceeded to fold my forelegs across my chest, squinted my eyes, and said.
"Challenge accepted."
