Okay enough fooling around, time to get serious. I said I would post this chapter next week but then I said 'screw it, it's 11:40 at night and I've got nothing better to do', so here is the next chapter early and I hope you fucktards at least find it more interesting. Also I'm going to be switching POV's from the main character to the other characters from now on so don't be confused if your suddenly Pinkie Pie or something.
Chapter 5
Point of view: Twilight
After the randomness that is Pinkie Pie and the abruptness of Rainbow Dash I decided to take a walk around town so that I could clear my head a bit from the events that have happened with Element Mage.
It's been about twenty minutes and I now find myself in the local park. The calming scenery doing wonders for my head and the cool breeze that flows beneath my wings as I spread them lowering my body temperature sufficiently.
I breath in the fresh summer air and let out a very content sigh. My moment of peace was a bit disrupted as a flash of light suddenly goes off to my right behind a tree. I proceeded to investigate and to my surprise it was Element. He seemed to be talking to himself however so I stayed quiet and decided to listen in.
"Your an idiot", I heard him start, "Celestia told you to not show off and what did you do?! Just that. You were weak, flaunting your skills in front of those mares like that. I can't even look at myself because of your mistake."
He then counteracted, "I can't help if I'm an idiot. And I know what Tia said, didn't you hear her when she was scolding me. And I know I should hide my power but I can't help it if I like to show off now and again. Though I probably should have just sent Twilight and her friends home and stayed in the library to study. I didn't even complement her on her feats. I just took all the glory like that showboat Trixie."
I felt the conversation was getting heated by the way he talked about Trixie, so I listened more intently. "You said you'd never talk about her again. remember what she did to you? How she broke your heart?! Do you even remember the reason why you started taking lessons from Celestia?! 'Cause I do. And if think for a second that I don't feel the least bit bad about it then you're dead wrong."
"You're right, I'm sorry. I'll try to contain myself but I need a bit of time to--"
He suddenly stopped mid-sentence and began to look around. Was something going to happen? Does he have a sixth sense like the one Pinkie has? He then stood from his seated position on the ground and took on a defensive stance.
"Who's there? Come out, I can sense your presence." Feeling I had been caught I began to move, but stopped as something began to move in the shadows of the trees surrounding the small clearing.
The shadows took form into a single black mass that was almost bubble-like if it were not constantly billowing like Celestia's mane.
"Mr. Mage," the black mass began, "I've heard many a story about you. But I pictured you to be a bit... more."
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not in the mood for a fight." Element said, "And even if I was, I don't even know who or what you are, so if I were to fight you I'd first have to gather information on you. And that sounds like a lot of effort right now, so if you will kindly leave me to my rambling and get lost I'd appreciate it."
I felt like I should run and tell somepony about this, but I was honestly intrigued by what was going to happen. So I cast an invisibility spell and watched intently.
Point of view: Element
Geez, can't a guy just beat himself up for twenty minutes? I really didn't want to deal with this right now but I will if I have to.
The symbiote-like mass was just floating there, going off about how he can probably beat me in a competition of some skill or another while I just sat down, bored and tired of today. After a few more meaning less words came from the floating blob I finally did something to shut it up.
Fast as a speeding leopard I conjured a steel blade infused with some of my magic and darted towards the black mass. I cut a horizontal slash into it's 'body' and used a psychic pulse to send it far into the flora, crashing into a tree. "You bore me", I said flatly and began to trot off, sending the sword back to its original place with my magic, "I'm going home. Maybe I can still waste the rest of the day studying with a few glasses of wine." And with that I was gone in a flash of light.
Point of view: Twilight
I'm not sure if what I saw was real or imaginary, but Element Mage just killed something right in front of my eyes. It happened so fast I barely had time to think. Where did that broadsword come from? What was the force that sent the creature flying? Why am I still sitting here when I could be asking Element these questions?
I finally got up from my sitting position and began galloping in the direction of Element's home. Maybe I can try to get him to open up to me a bit more.
It took at least ten or fifteen minutes to get to Element's house. Even so I was exhausted from running so much. I put my hoof against the wall to support myself as I caught my breath, until Element opened the door.
"Twilight Sparkle, just the mare I was wanted to see." he said, "You look exhausted come inside before you collapse from a heat-stroke."
He didn't have to tell me twice. I slowly trotted through the doorway and made my way towards his sofa, which I proceeded to sit down on. "Let me get you a glass of water, hopefully that will help you cool down." he stated as he trotted to where I guessed was the kitchen.
After a few seconds he was back with the promised glass of refreshing liquid in his magic. He placed the cold glass in my hooves and I eagerly drank the contents. After chugging down the entire cup, which was about 16 oz. I let out a refreshed sigh.
He then spoke, "My word, tell me did gallop all the way here from where you were." I nodded, not saying anything, "Why didn't you just use your wings and fly. One, it's less work, and two, it saves time."
My mouth hung open as I had completely forgotten and then acquainted my hoof with my face. After removing my appendage by sliding it down my muzzle Element looked at me with a knowing smile, "It's okay, I forget most of the time too. So before we discuss why I wanted to see you, why don't you get those questions answered. I'm an open book with good ears to match."
This was my opportunity to ask about what happened at the park clearing, but my conscience told me that might aggravate him in some way so I went back to my previous questions from earlier. "I want to know the kind of spells you've learned with the princess. I also want to know how to perform them for myself." I said as I forced the events from earlier into the back of my mind.
"Okay then," he started, "let me tell you about my duplication spell first seeing as you were very intrigued by that earlier." I sat forward so I could listen more closely. "You see it's more complicated than you think. You know how to take hold of something in your magic? Well it's like that only you're pulling the thing you're holding apart while simultaneously casting a repair or healing spell of advanced magnitude in order to make it whole again. Thus allowing whatever you are pulling apart to split into two of the same thing without completely destroying it." I never really thought of doing that kind of spell before, or performing more than one at a time.
"Wow, it sounds hard, yet easy to cast," I stated, "What else can you tell me?" I asked eager to learn more advanced magic than I already know.
"I actually want to know more about you. I've been extremely rude and have only been talking about myself. I want to know what you've learned over the years you've been a tenant in Ponyville." He was clearly finish with the spotlight and directed it right at me. I didn't know what to say. Would he like what I've learned, or would it bore him like the black blob from the park?
I guess I just have to be me.
Point of view: Element
Twilight seemed skeptical about talking more about herself than listening to me instead. But she then got a look of determination and started from the beginning. She talked about how she and her friends defeated Nightmare Moon and rescued Princess Luna. Twilight discussed all her adventures and how she helped her friends learn and grow from their mistakes. I of course gave my two cents whenever she asked about my opinion and she somehow didn't get offended, but agreed with me on a few points. We discussed about our feats of magic as well, and even agreed to teach each other spells one of us knew and the other didn't. This went on until very late in the evening as it was four o' clock when we started and it was now ten at night.
Twilight glanced at my old grandfather clock by the wall, "Oh my," she said, "I think I might have overstayed my welcome. I should get going before Spike gets worried."
She got up to leave but I stopped her. "Before you go," I started, "why don't you browse my book collection. Maybe you can add a few things to you're library." She lit up and nodded enthusiastically. I used my magic to teleport around twenty or so books for her to choose from. She pointed to the ones she found interesting and had a pile of twelve new tomes to read from.
"I'd like to thank you for the new reading material." Twilight said as I lead her outside, "I've been waiting for a new shipment of books from Canterlot, but they haven't sent any yet. I even made the order in person so that Celestia knew I was running out."
"You don't have to thank me. Just getting to know more about you is all the thanks I'll need." I said trying to sound modest, "Anyway, It's really late and I don't want you to walk home alone while the moon is up. So I shall escort you home."
"You don't have to do that," she said with a blush.
"Oh but I must. It is one of the many rules of chivalry which I have been reading up on. Therefore, as a proper gentlecolt, I will not take no for an answer."
"You sound like somepony Rarity would love to meet."
"Then I shall try and pay her a visit after a bit of magical training in the afternoon tomorrow. But for now, let's get you home."
"Okay," we chatted a bit more as we trotted toward the Golden Oaks Library.
The trip took around ten minutes and as we approached the front door she spoke again, "I had a good time talking to you today, and I hope we can get together sometime to trade spells and knowledge."
"Me too. How about this coming Wednesday we have tea and scones?"
"Fancy, and sure I'd like that. How about one in the afternoon?"
"Deal. See you then," with that I trotted off back home while she went inside.
I opened the door to my house, closed it, locked it for the night, and went to my study. I popped open my book on pyromancy where I left off when it suddenly dawned on me. "I think I just asked her out on a date." I then proceeded to freak out and begin planning for Wednesday even though it was 4 days from now.
Point of view: Twilight
After Element Mage left I put my new books on my reading desk for later and went upstairs for a shower and a well night of sleep. But as I entered my loft I froze in place. Spike came out of room next to me and saw my frozen state.
"Twi, are you okay? You seem kinda pale." he asked probably wondering why I was just standing there.
I blinked a few times and finally answered his question after a few seconds.
"I think I have a date on Wednesday."
Point of view: Pinkie Pie
After a whole day of work and party planning it was time to hit the sack. After that it's bedtime. Wait a sec my Pinkie Sense is acting up.
"Ooo, someone just asked somepony out on a date without realizing it until now. I wonder who though? Meh I'll find out next chapter right mister author?"
Of course Pinkie. Why wouldn't I put you in the next chap?!
"YIPPY, I can't wait for next week."
