Chapter 1View OnlineA loving heartChapter 1The sun rose on a clear and beautiful day. The wonderbolts were scheduled to perform in Ponyville, so it was clear who had gotten up and cleared the clouds so early. Twilight looked out into a marvelous blue sky. If she looked into the distance she could see the brilliant green leaves of Apple Acres. "Wow Spike! Look how beautiful it is today! The sky looks like a beautiful sapphire!" She said. "Wake me up when you see a real sapphire." Grumbled Spike, rolling over in his little bed. A few hours later, she and Rarity were headed to meet their friends in the field where the Wonderbolts were performing. Rarity was wearing the gem Spike had given her and she seemed excited. "I can't believe that Rainbow Dash will finally be able to prove her stuff to the Wonderbolts!" Rarity said. After the show there would be a little competition of the Ponyville Pegasus that the Wonderbolts were going to over-see. "Yeah, Rainbow must be so excited." Twilight agreed. Suddenly a blur of color went by them, halted, turned around, and zoomed back. It was Rainbow Dash. "Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh. I can't believe that I'm finally going to get to perform for the Wonderbolts!" She said flying around them in circles. "Wow Rainbow Dash, you must have been planning your routine for weeks!" Twilight said. "Try months!" She said, "I'm going clear the sky in ten seconds flat speed around the field faster than anything, I will fly through the Evergreen forest without missing a beat, then I'm going to swoop down and pull up right before I hit the ground. The finale is, well it's a surprise." She said boastfully. As they entered the field Rainbow seemed to get a little bit more nervous. Her pink eyes darted around, and her hooves began to shake. "Hey guys!" Said Fluttershy walking up with Applejack and Pinkie Pie. "Hello, Fluttershy!" Said Rarity flipping her elegant mane. "Rainbow?" Fluttershy said looking at the speedy pony. "There's somethin' wrong with Dash." Said Applejack looking at her with concern. "I think that she's nervous!" Shouted Pinkie. "Oh no! We are not having a repeat of the Cloudsdale competition. Rainbow Dash!" Yelled Applejack, getting Rainbow's attention. "You are not going to be nervous! You are the fastest pony in all of Equestria, and you will not fail!" She yelled at Rainbow Dash. It seemed to calm down the multicolored pony quite a bit. "You know what Applejack?" She said, "You're right! I don't need to be nervous! I'm the fastest, bravest, coolest pony in all of Equestria, and I'm not gonna fail." "Oh great now you've done it Applejack." Rarity said haughtily. "I'm the awesomest, coolest pony, no pony can beat me. I dare Everypony to try. No one can beat this girl!" She said. "Yep, she's fine now." Laughed Twilight. Everyone began to laugh with her. Rainbow Dash was one arrogant pony, but without her arrogance, she might not be Rainbow anymore. Everyone stood around in the field, waiting for the show to start. Out of the blue six blue and yellow blurs flew over everypony's head. Their entrance was followed by a loud crash of thunder, scaring everypony senseless. After a moment they regained their composure and began to clap. "Woo!" Screamed Rainbow Dash, jumping up and yelling for more. Her friends watched her with smiles. This was one of her dreams come true. The Wonderbolt's performed for about an hour longer, bringing with them many cheers and yells (mostly from Rainbow Dash). After they finished the competition began. Rainbow Dash had, of course, gotten the ending act; she insisted they had to save the best for last. They saw many crashes, and a few really good acts, but no one had a chance of beating Rainbow Dash. She flew over there heads at warp speed. They cloudy sky was cleared almost instantly. She zipped through the thick forest trees, clearing every single one without even coming close to crashing. She swooped down towards the crowd, and right before she splattered on the ground she pulled up and flew towards the sky. She gained speed as she sped upward. She went faster and faster, until they all heard the loud crash of the sonic rainboom and a rainbow stretched out over their heads. Everyone cheered and screamed, excited by her amazing performance. There wasn't a pony not cheering or yelling. "Rainbow Dash! Rainbow Dash!" They chanted as the flattered pony set her feet on the ground again. Her five best friends ran out to her. "Rainbow Dash you were amazing!" They all cried, crowding around her. She blushed and smiled. Then they parted as Spitfire walked up to her. "You're still as amazing as always Rainbow Dash." Said the Pegasus looking at her with awe. "Thanks Spitfire, I can't believe you remember me." Said Rainbow. "How could we not remember the pony that saved our lives?" Said the Wonderbolt laughing, "And remember you won that day with us last time you performed." "Best day of my life!- I mean it was pretty cool." She said trying to sound as awesome as Spitfire did. "Well, we wanted to welcome you to the Wonderbolts." She said. "…… What did you just say?" Rainbow Dash asked. "I said that we want you to join the Wonderbolts and perform with us sometimes." She said again smiling. "I ACCEPT!" Rainbow yelled. "Great! Welcome to the team." Spitfire said walking away. "Hey," Said a familiar voice. "I just wanted to welcome you to the Wonderbolts too." "You're Soarin aren't you?" Asked Rainbow, although she already knew the answer to that. "Yeah. I was wondering…. If you wanted to hang out or something?" He asked almost sheepishly. "Well, I promised my friends I would hang out with them afterwards…" Rainbow began. "Rainbow, you hang out with us all the time." Applejack started. "We think that you should hang out with him Darling." Rarity stated. "YEAH Rainbow Dash! You should go hang out with this guy!" Pinkie said in her upbeat loud voice. "Well…. If you guys say so!" She said, filled with excitement that they let her go with Soarin. "Well then Rainbow Dash. Let's go." Said Soarin spreading his wings and taking to the sky. She waved goodbye to her friends then took off after him. "There she goes," Applejack said smiling. Everypony else was thinking the same thing she was.
Chapter 2View OnlineA loving heartChapter 2As Rainbow Dash flew through the sky, she watched Soarin carefully. He flew so elegantly and differently than she did. You could see that he had devoted his whole life to learning the art of flying. She sighed; she wished she could be in the Wonderbolts too. Soarin landed softly on a cloud. Rainbow landed next to him. They looked over the green earth below. Rainbow Dash looked over at Soarin, he was smiling. He looked up at her, and she blushed. “So, Rainbow Dash…” He started. He looked up at her and blushed, “That’s a really cool name.” He looked down at his feet and kicked the clouds. Rainbow could feel her face beginning to feel hot, as she began to blush too. “Thanks, all of my friends say so too.” She replied quietly. She was surprised that she was feeling this way. Normally, she would talk to this guy without a problem. It was probably just the beauty of the sunset making her act weird, she told herself. The clouds below them started to turn pink in the dying rays of the sun. It was a beautiful sight to watch from so far up. “So Soarin,” She said, after they had sat in awkward silence for about two minutes, “how’s being in the Wonderbolts?” Soarin looked at her kindly, “You really want to be in the Wonderbolts, don’t you?” “Yeah, I do. I thought it would be pretty easy after I had done the sonic rainboom, but it turns out it was much harder than I thought to get into the Wonderbolts.” “No! Rainbow Dash. We were going to let you in, but… Well, we all agreed to let you in, and then we were thrown into race after race. There was no time to let you into the Wonderbolts, nevertheless train you for all of our routines!” Soarin flustered. “Hey! Stop being so defensive, Soarin. It’s fine! I figured something like that would’ve happened.” She said, obviously lying. Soarin smiled at her, “Well they all like you!. I know that. Sometimes we would even try to do something as cool as the sonic rainboom, but... none of us could pull it off." "Oh yeah? Well, I guess I could show you." She said a little arrogantly, then she seemed to realize something,"but it'd have to be tomorrow. I have to get home and feed Tank!" She got up. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay Rainbow Dash? I’ll meet you outside of- of-” He realized that he didn’t know anywhere that they could meet. “Sugar Cube Corner?” Rainbow Dash suggested. “Uh, yeah that!” Said Soarin. As the last rays of the sun began to disappear beyond the horizon, Soarin and Rainbow unfurled their wings. Soarin felt his feathers brush softly against Rainbow Dash’s flank. He blushed again. Later that night, Soarin landed in Cloudsdale, he walked slowly through the quiet and dark streets. He and Rainbow had gone for a late night fly. They had had such a great time, and they were meeting the next morning. Soarin couldn’t stop smiling. He heard someone laughing next to him. “Well well well Soarin,” Came a voice he recognized, “You have a fun time on your date?” “Wind Surfer! You scared me.” He said. “Yeah, I know, that was kind of the point.” Laughed Wind Surfer, “You and Rainbow Dash have a good time? Did you-“ “Oh yeah we had a great time.” Soarin beamed. “By the way, we have to report for training first thing tomorrow morning.” Wind Surfer said walking away. “But-” Soarin began thinking about what he was going to do. “I don’t just want to leave her, I can’t cancel on our date- Wait a minute…. It is a date!” His smile got even wider, “That’s it, I won’t cancel, missing one Wonderbolts practice won’t kill me.”
Chapter 3View OnlineA loving heartChapter 3The next morning, Soarin was up before even the sun was. He was too excited about his date with Rainbow Dash to get any sleep. He hoped it went well; he really did enjoy spending time with her. He paced around his room for a bit, before he heard the door open. “Soarin?” Spitfire asked, “Are you up? What are you doing up so early. I need all my Wonderbolts to get rest if you’re going to perform for the crowd at Canterlot.” Oh yeah. Soarin had completely forgotten that they were scheduled to perform at a party later that day. That’s probably why they were having such an early practice. “Right… right. I’ll get to bed in a minute. Sorry Spitfire.” He said bashfully. She smiled, “Just make sure you get some sleep.” She closed the door behind her, and trotted back to her room. Soarin climbed back into bed, and tried to go back to sleep. Eventually, he had to get up again. He tiptoed down the hallway of the Wonderbolts Academy, and quietly left. He flew down towards Ponyville. He could see the sun peeking up over the mountains that held the capital city Canterlot. It was beautiful. The sun cast its rays over Equestria, and gently nudged both animals and ponies awake. Soarin continued his decent down to the small town. It always felt a little weird to walk around on the ground after he had spent so much time on the clouds. Residents of Ponyville were just starting to rise. It was then Soarin realized that he was about two and a half hours early for his date with Rainbow. He sighed. He better find something that would keep him occupied for a while. He walked through the little town, looking at all the small shops, trees, and the kind ponies. A light yellow pony bumped into him. “Oh! I’m so sorry!” She said, “I hope I didn’t hurt you or anything.” “Ha! It takes way more than that to hurt me!” He said, “wait… You were with Rainbow Dash the other day right?” “Oh um yes. You actually sound just like her.” She said softly. “What was that last part? I didn’t catch that.” Soarin said. “Oh nothing… Well I better be off. I have to feed all the animals or else they’ll get cranky.” She scurried away looking embarrassed and scared. “Okay!” Soarin called, “It was nice meeting you!” She disappeared over the hill. Well, that was strange. Soarin continued his walk through the town. What else was there to do? He shouldn’t have been so excited about his date, or he could’ve been on time and wouldn’t look like he was stalking Rainbow Dash. Gosh she’d be weirded out if she found out he had been this early. Soarin looked at his hooves with a feeling of shame. He wished that the paper work for Rainbow joining the Wonderbolts would be done. Then they would be able to hang out at practice and performances, but for now, that wasn’t a possibility. Then, Soarin saw a light blue pony streak across the sky. She cleared clouds in an instant, and made it a nice bright day for everyone. She was done almost as soon as she began, and floated down to the ground. She was bombarded by a light pink pony, and after a few minutes, the pony zipped off in a flash. “Oh hey Soarin!” She called over to me, trotting up, “I thought we were supposed to meet later?” She said with a bit of confusion. “Yeah. Sorry.” Soarin said with a large blush, “I got here way earlier than I had expected.” ‘Oh well,’ He thought to himself, ‘too bad for not being a weird creeper.’ “That’s fine,” Rainbow said, “Come on let’s go. I’ve gotta show you the sonic rainboom after all.” She smirked. They flew out to an open field a little ways off from Ponyville. Rainbow found a cloud high in the blue sky that seemed to suit her the best. She flew to the top of it, and sat down. She looked over the edge, and gulped. “Okay,” She whispered. She took a few steps back, took a deep breath, and then plunged over the side of the cloud. She practically flew straight down. “Whoa,” Soarin breathed as she picked up speed. She got faster and faster, a barrier began to build around her body. She knew that she could break through it if only she got a little more speed. Her wings were pressed firmly into her body so that she didn’t get much air resistance. She was getting closer to the ground. She’d have to pull up soon. The barrier was getting closer to breaking. Any other pony wouldn’t have been able to go this fast. They would have met too much resistance at the hands of the sky. Rainbow was different. She was one with the sky. You could say that they were like close friends. Rainbow knew everything about it, and she knew that she could get through this, and impress him. She had to. She couldn’t face him again if she failed this. She knew that he had seen her sonic rainboom about three times already. This one was much different though. This one was just for him. It was like it was bonding them… a bit. Rainbow blushed at the thought, but she didn’t slow down at all. Her eyes were watering, and she was getting a little too close to the ground. Finally, she felt the barrier encasing her snap, and she rushed up into the sky at an amazing speed. Rainbows trailed behind her. “Awesome!!!” Soarin cheered from his place on the cloud. It was fun to be the spectator, instead of the performer. Rainbow zoomed around him. It was a minute before she could slow down, and stop. When she did, she looked incredibly embarrassed. Soarin thought it was kind of cute. “That was so cool!” Soarin beamed as she landed. “Thanks. It was nothing.” “It was much more than nothing! That was amazing! I can’t believe I’m hanging out with the only pony in Equestria that can pull off a sonic rainboom like that. That’s so awesome. I can’t even begin to tell you!” Her blush got a little bit redder, and she tried to hide it and look cool. “Hey,” Soarin said, “You should come check out our show in Canterlot today. It’s going to be amazing!” “Of course! All Wonderbolt shows are amazing!” Rainbow replied enthusiastically, “… but… I promised my friend Pinkie that I would hang out with her today.” “Oh okay. I understand why you’re the element of loyalty then…” Soarin said, “I can’t believe how amazing that is.” “It’s nothing. My dad always said that anypony that abandons her friends, doesn’t deserve those friends in the first place.”
Chapter 4View OnlineA loving heartChapter 4Soarin and Rainbow hung out for a bit. Neither of them knew exactly what to say, so most of their date was spent in silence, awkwardly glancing at each other. That is, until Rainbow decided to take Soarin to Sugarcube Corner. “OH MY Gosh Hi!!! I’m Pinkie Pie! How are you? Are you good? Well you’re with Dash, so I bet you’re good. I’veneverseenyouaroundherebeforebutI’msureyou’resupernice.” Her words began to run together, and Soarin had a hard time distinguishing what she was saying. Pinkie gasped, “Are you Rainbow Dash’s new boyfriend?” She whispered. Soarin blushed even deeper, and took a step back. “No. What? I uh….” He was flustered. “Hey Pinkie Pie! We just stopped in to have some of your awesome cupcakes.” Rainbow Dash interrupted, Soarin let out a sigh of relief. “That pony’s crazy!” He laughed when they had left. “Oh Pinkie Pie? Yeah she’s pretty weird, but she’s fun, and she can pull off some pretty awesome pranks…. Not as awesome as mine of course.” Rainbow Said with fondness. “What are your other friends like?” Soarin asked. “Um…. Well…. Do you want to meet them?” Rainbow asked sheepishly. “Yeah!” They trotted off towards Sweet Apple Acres, where they ran into Applejack, who was off course, bucking apple trees. “Why I am pleased as punch to meet a friend of Rainbow Dash’s.” Said Applejack, shaking Soarin’s hoof with a firm grip, “and y’all are gonna be in the Wonderbolts together? That’s so great. You’ll have some great fun with our Dash here; she’s one of the best fliers in Equestria. Um, besides yourself I mean.” “Yeah, I know!” Soarin smiled, “she really is amazing.” “Yeah, I am pretty amazing.” Rainbow agreed. “And so very humble.” Applejack rolled her eyes, “Anyway, I gotta get back to bucking these trees; they aren’t gonna clear themselves!” “She was nice.” Soarin said as Rainbow Dash led him towards some other pony’s house. They arrived at Fluttershy’s pretty soon. “Oh um hello again, Mr. Wonderbolt pony.” Fluttershy said retreating back into her house, while Rainbow and Soarin came in. “Oh so you two already met?” Rainbow asked, “that’s cool.” “Oh yes,” Fluttershy said, “I ran into him in front of Sugarcube Corner earlier, but he told me he wasn’t hurt or anything.” “This is my pal Fluttershy!” Rainbow Dash beamed, pulling the shy pony into a tight embrace, “She’s the pony that helped me find one of my other best friends, Tank!” “Oh yes,” Fluttershy nodded. A call of an eagle sounded through the small cottage, and Fluttershy leapt into the air. “Oh dear! I have to take Aero his soup! The poor dear’s sick!” She cooed. She sped over to the counter, grabbed a bowl of soup, and flew up the stairs. “We better leave her alone,” Rainbow commented. Next they stopped by Rarity’s, she was busy hemming a dress. She looked up when she heard the door open, and smiled brightly. “Oh Rainbow Dash, I’m so glad you’re here! Would you be a dear and try this on for me? I want it to look stunning, but I feel as though it’s missing something,” She pushed Rainbow over to her little runway, and before the blue pony could do anything, she was wearing a frilly gown. Rainbow sighed. This was typical of Rarity, but did she have to do it in front of Soarin? That was sooooo lame. “Ah yes!” Rarity cheered, sticking pins here and there. “Couldn’t you have some pony else do this?” Rainbow asked. “Well yes I suppose, but why on earth- OH!” Rarity turned and noticed Soarin for the first time. “I apologize Rainbow Dash, I didn’t know you had brought a gentlecolt with you. Pardon me, Sir,” She said to him. “It’s fine!” He replied, “Awesome dress.” “Why thank you, but it’s not quite finished yet,” She said looking at it once again, “I feel as though it needs… OH yes!!” She ran upstairs to get something. Rainbow struggled to get out of the dress, so they could make an escape, but it was no use. “This dress doesn’t look nearly as nice on you as the one that you wore to the gala,” Soarin commented. “Yeah, well, that awesome dress was also made by Rarity,” Rainbow shrugged, trying to undo some sort of bow. Rarity rushed down an instant later. She put two more pins into the dress, undid a small tie, and carried it back to the mannequin. “How did…?” Rainbow looked around her as though there would be remnants of the dress left on her. She shrugged and beckoned to Soarin to follow her out. It was best not to interrupt Rarity while she was working like this. “Oh Rainbow,” Rarity called as they were leaving. She rushed over, “Here, take this. I was saving it for your birthday, but you know I think it would look fabulous on you, and I want to thank you for the trouble! Besides I can always get you something else for your birthday.” Rarity tucked a pin into Rainbow’s hair. She shifted it around a bit, but then she seemed satisfied. Rainbow couldn’t see it, but she thanked Rarity, and she and Soarin were on their way. She paused to see it in the window of a shop, and she had to hold back a gasp. It was a beautiful golden pin that was shaped like a feather. Rainbow smiled. The pin was awesome! “All of your friends are really nice,” Soarin smiled. “Yeah, well, of course all of my friends are awesome. Why would I hang out with them if they weren’t? But I do have two more friends I want you to meet. Their names are Twilight and Spike.” “Okay!” He agreed enthusiastically. They arrived at the library and heard a loud crash. Rainbow quickly rushed in. “Found it!” Screeched Twilight, running upstairs. They heard a groan come from under a pile of books, and a purple dragon poked his head out. “Hey Spike,” Said Rainbow Dash, “Helping Twilight find a book?” Spike gave her a small glare, before nodding and picking up one of the fallen novels. He placed it on the shelf. “Hey Rainbow Dash,” He managed, having recovered from the book avalanche, “What are you doing here?” “Oh, I was just introducing Soarin here to all of my friends.” Spike looked up at the other light blue Pegasus, “Whoa, aren’t you from the Wonderbolts?” “Yeah!” Soarin replied. “That’s so cool!” Spike cried, “Wow you guys are so awesome! I was watching the other day when you guys performed! You know Rainbow Dash here has a couple of sweet moves of her own. Twilight has wings, but she tells me she won’t learn any tricks. Lame!” “Spike!” Twilight called in a warning tone from upstairs, “I heard that!” “Rainbow Dash is here!” Spike called back, avoiding the subject. “Oh really?” Twilight trotted down the stairs, “Oh, and who is this?” “This is Soarin,” Rainbow said, “you know that super awesome pony from the Wonderbolts.” “Oh yes! This is the colt that you’ve told me about. Rainbow Dash is such a huge fan of yours. I think she even-“ “Okay Twilight! We have to go,” Rainbow was pushing Soarin out. She was blushing.
