64 - Flutters Cloth
Previous ChapterNext ChapterC. Go straight through the Forest and try to find your way.
[OPTION C SELECTED]
*You decide that going in a straight line from this point should get you to your destination quicker. After all, shortcuts and other trails are just detours detracting you from your goal. Besides, how scary can a forest in such a bright and colorful world be?*
*As it turns out, this forest is absolutely *terrifying*. Not only is it so dark to the point of needing night vision goggles, but you occasionally hear things scurrying around you. If ponies are the civilized substitute humans of this world, you don't exactly want to find out what the uncivilized wildlife is like. The paranoia only doubles when you hear the howl of a wolf from deeper inside the forest.*
*Stopping in your tracks, you turn to look back at the way you entered, finding no light whatsoever. You'briefly consider turning back now and retreating to one of the other paths while you still have the chance. You shake your head in refusal, steeling yourself in determination to face the forest like a real man. Facing forward once more, your vision is blocked by a distinctly yellowish form hovering directly in front of you.*
"Hello there."
*As quiet and nonthreatening as the voice that originates from the figure is, her sudden appearance without your notice causes you to fall backward onto the forest floor in surprise. Looking up at it, you see that it's a mare with pale yellow fur and a light pink mane, albeit this one sports long, outstretched wings which she uses to suspend herself in midair. You open your mouth to speak, but she quickly covers her mouth in surprise and blushes at your form.*
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to surprise you like that. I'm Fluttershy."
*The pegasus lands on the soft patch of grass in front of her and offers a hoof to you. After introducing herself, she allows you to shake her hoof, but she slips away before you can use it to pull yourself up. You roll your eyes in frustration, deciding to plant your hands on the ground to lift yourself up without any help.*
"No! Don't get up!"
*The mare suddenly shouts at you, still holding her blush. It shocks you in place and you stop moving, looking to her for an explanation as she offers a nervous smile.*
"I mean... Don't trouble yourself! You look exhausted. Why don't you just take a nice break here and we can- NOW, PJ!"
*Fluttershy screeches to the heavens, letting out an alert of some kind as all the warning you get before a full grown adult brown bear enters your vision from a tree hanging over head. Eyes widening in terror, your quick reflexes serve you well enough to roll out of the way before the bear flops down on the ground with a loud *thud. Fluttershy gasps as the bear lies face down on the forest floor, too dizzy from the fall to do much of anything in response to its failed attempt at capturing you.**
"Oh, my! I'm sorry, PJ. I didn't think he could move that fast!"
*The bear merely lifts its head and groans before dropping back to the ground lazily. It has become clear that Fluttershy has tried to capture you, putting you in a dangerous position regardless of how sweet and innocent this mare seemed to be only moments ago. Standing tall in a nervous stance, you consider yourself lucky to have avoided the animal attack, but only for a moment as Fluttershy draws her gaze towards you and narrows her bright blue eyes as she speaks.*
"Well, looks like I'll have to do this the hard way. I'll have to use... the stare."
*You don't like the sound of that, and sure enough, the atmosphere surrounding the soft spoken mare completely changes as she closes her eyes and rears her head back. Thinking fast, you untie your trusty loincloth and fling it at the mare's face, preventing her from pulling off the technique of which she blatantly warned you. Blinding her and throwing back her head from the impact, this leaves Fluttershy dazed and shocked even as you look around for an exit of some sort.*
"Ah! I can't see!"
*Her wings flap furiously as she starts to run around, unable to calm down for even a moment to take off the towel covering her face. Not wanting to give her the chance, you sneak past her deep into the forest and make a break for it, dashing northward in hopes of finding way out of here. Luckily, you see a small seam dead ahead, probably big enough for you to fit through. Considering it's the only light source you can see at the moment, you brave the thorny bushes surrounding it and leap back into the outside world.*
*The cool breeze blows by once again, reminding your body of the nudity you imposed on yourself. Perhaps it was a bad idea using your loincloth to escape that mare, but for the moment, you try to forget about it as you stroll along another clear path, keeping an eye out for any mares who might *surprise** you again. You can't understand why any of these ponies prefer to be walking around in the nude, but you suppose it would be because of their soft fur keeping them warm. With no such luxury on your naked skin, you steel yourself to get this all over with before you catch a cold of some sort.**
*While you thought you had made it out of the forest, another part of it stretches before you up ahead. While you want to avoid it at all costs considering what happened, seeing how prevalent the dark greenery is in this area, you know you can't prolong the inevitable forever. The path to the left leads to a series of hills, perhaps farther away from the forest, but you're not sure if that's the right direction or not. The right path is differentiated only by the deep shadows covering the area, provided by the hanging trees overhead that block your vision of the sky.*
*With no choice being particularly obvious, it's clear the game designer is trying to fuck with you. Otherwise, he wouldn't have put you in such an obviously dangerous situation. I mean, really, a fork in the road with unlabeled paths? Real original. Regardless of the cliched decision you're presented with, you think on the options for just a bit longer.*
*From here, you choose to...*
OPTION A: Take the left path. (turn to page 18)
OPTION B: Walk straight through the forest dead ahead. (turn to page 51)
OPTION C: Take the right path. (turn to page 91)
