How it all began

You frown to look up from your text book, yep. It's her again, that weird mare with a grey coat and electric looking mane, she seemed to be sitting there writing about something. Celestia knows what it actually is, the mare was as predictable as a fortune cookie missing it's fortune, you frown at her with more of a snarling look on your face as if expecting her to turn and look at you to see how you felt with her stupidity, but instead of that happening you hear your math teacher call her name.

"Midnight Cloudettè. Stand up and bring your book over right now!" As usual Mister Thunder's voice seemed to give off that terrifying superior tone. Midnight had stood up and trotted over to him nervously, you squint your eyes to attempt to see what she had written, but this attempted failed mainly because you were at the back of the class. You begin to notice the entire class now watching the teacher and Midnight, he asks for Midnight to give her book to him, which she does. He flicks through the pages and you watch the look of shock and repulse on his face which makes you slightly intrigued on what he was looking at.

"Miss Midnight." He states her name in a cold manner that sends shivers down your own back, making your feathers quiver along with your wings. "How old exactly are you?" He continues with what he was saying. The once smiley and excited looking mare had now gone dead quiet, her yellow strip in her mane and tail glowing and fading slowly as she gulps and you hear her shakily respond with. "S-S-Si-.." She had taken a slight breath before quickly saying. "S-Sixteen turning s-seventeen next m-m-month!!"

You smirk hearing this, of course you're older and more mature than her, there was no doubt in your mind. Now the entire class was dead silent, listening in to what was happening, Mister Thunder asked in a calm and seemingly normal tone. "And what class is this?" Where Midnight shakily responds with. "M-Maths.." Mister Thunders eyebrows lower as he begins to frown some. "Then why am I reading a pornographic story with pictures to match and see no math work?!" Midnight seemed to freeze up as this was said, the entire class hearing it and Midnight freezes up and gulps a bit as her entire body begins shaking as she hung her head and said in an almost whispering tone. "I-I'm sorry...sir..it won't happen again..."

You watch her as she slowly trots back to the back of the classroom, buzzing like sounds coming from all of the students as they begin gossiping about what had just happened. All the while you just hold back quiet laughs, snickering occasionally as you feel so grateful that it wasn't you in that position, but she got what was coming to her anyways. You look at her to see her glowy mane being exceptionally dull, from what you know it changes tone depending on her mood, but why would you care? She is just a simpleton that had what was coming to her anyways, if she was as smart and cautious as you, then you don't think she'd ever be in trouble.

You watch her sulking quietly as she looks at the ponies looking at the short mare and continuing their gossiping. You put a hoof on your temples and rub them a little as you look at the wall behind the teacher, looking up at the clock to see class was almost over, it had about five more minutes. You sigh loudly and tap your hoof on the table, unlike Midnight you had done no work or anything the entire class, but you are way too stubborn to admit that to yourself. You check the time again, four minutes and thirty seconds left until lunch began, you groan loudly and think aloud. "Why does it always seem to take so long for class to end in the last five minutes?" It had seemed that Midnight had heard and giggled quietly, saying to you. "Well that's because you're impatient for the ending of the lesson! You just wanna get out of class."

You grit your teeth together and scowl at her as she continues smiling, you quickly respond with. "No. It's because time is slower." 'She isn't right, she is never right.' You think to yourself and she just shrugs with a bright smile, that smile. Oh how it pissed you off, she smiles over everything! Why can't she ever just be upset for once? Everything seems to go perfectly for her, although you had just contradicted yourself because she'd just been told off in front of class. Well...she had gotten off scot-free and seemed to be fine with what had happened.

"Stop looking at me!" You demand, she responds with a squeak and blushes a slight purple as she looks away quickly. You scowl at her and wonder what the hell she's doing again, why does she constantly piss you off more than everyone else? A loud ringing sound was heard and Midnight zips out of the room quickly with a loud squeak, you just groan as you slowly stand up. You tower above generally everyone in the school because of your freakish height, the closest to your height was a full head and a half shorter than you, the average sized ponies were about two thirds of your height whereas Midnight was around half your height.

You trot out into the cafeteria and look around, you see an empty table at the back of the room. You head over there and sit down on it, luckily it was in the corner of the room so it was very secluded and quiet in this area, just how you liked it. Your ears twitched as you hear somepony approaching, your eyes dart towards where the noise was coming from only to find out it was her again. Midnight. She was looking at you with big and curious purple eyes which seemed to sparkle the longer she looks, she had been acting like this for as long as you could remember which was since the day you arrived to this school, The Fillydelphia High School. It was a standard school for the public, not like those prissy private schools you used to be from. Not to be said you got kicked out of because you were too lazy and started arguments with teachers who put you down.

"WHAT?!" You yell out in a pissy tone, Midnight's mind seems to snap to what she was doing and quickly looks away, down to her food. She looks at you a bit and asks quietly. "U-Um..do..do you ha-have any f-food Miss Hazel?" You grit your teeth and stare her in the eyes. "What does it matter?" You say quietly, to which she responds with. "Well, you look really r-really hungry and such.." She confidently moves over to your table, how dare she, and pushes her lunch bag to you. "Have whatever you want!" You hear her tone becoming more and more confident with the more she spoke, you take a quick look inside to see a bunch of mixed food such as a slice of cake, a banana and some biscuits with cheese. You make a disgusted noise and push it away, having an upturned snout as if looking down upon her. "Unlike you, I care for my body and am trying to keep a healthy complexion, I do not eat disgusting fatty foods...unlike YOU!" You said in a disgusted tone.

"O-Oh it's alright..I-I don't mind! I just was...a little worried since you've been looking exceptionally skinny today and I just..w-wanted to make sure you were all okay!" She stuttered out, you hear her confidence slipping again. You put on a sick smile as you take pleasure in her loosing confidence, it was about time she felt emotional pain. Just as you think this in your head you notice a goofy smile on her face and she continued. "B-Because..I'd hate t-to see you sick...such a pr-pretty mare..shouldn't starve or such Hazel.." She said with a soft purple blush, she suddenly stands up and trots away making shy noises leaving you confused and unsure on what had just happened. 'Why? Why is she not upset? Almost instantly she was smiling and didn't care what I had said...she just smiled and pushed it aside...why?' You think to yourself and groan a bit, your stomach rumbling. Damn it, Midnight bringing up how hungry you are made you feel how hungry you truly were.

You look around quickly and quickly move out of the cafeteria holding the lunch bag Midnight seemed to have forgotten. As you exit you don't see Midnight smiling softly as she watches you leave with the bag, once you're hidden well under the stairs of the first level you begin digging into the food she had. Oh god her cake had tasted amazing, did she cook this? Did she but it? You didn't know and you didn't care, you were feeling starving and couldn't help but dig in. "Stupid Pegasus/Pony/Cat hybrid electrical science potion screw up thing..." You mumble as Midnight pops into your mind again, after you finished all of the food you slump back with a satisfied sigh, hearing the bell ring you smack your head softly against the back of the wall. You couldn't be bothered going to your last class, so you decided you might as well skip it, you see no reason to go to it since it was...you shudder a little, physical education. God how you hated that subject, you shudder again at the thought of it and then roll over onto your side, relaxing on the cold concrete which was somehow possible for you and drift off into a restless sleep.

You grunt a little while later to feel a soft poking at your side, your eyes slowly open, everything comes off blurry and you struggle to remember where you were. You then remember just where you were and look around a bit, seeing a soft yellow glow right in front of you. "You hadn't showed up to class, so I figured I'd find you here. I mean it's where you went last." You look at the short mare who was offering help up, you were feeling slightly sick in the stomach. You now regret eating the cake and were thinking of giving a smart remark but blush in shame as you hold your hoof out and she helps lift you to your hooves. "There ya go. Are you feeling alright Hazel?" She asks politely as you scoff at her and grumble a bit. "No. Not after you let me have that crappy cake, my stomach is rejecting it!" She just responds with her usual giggle and moves your hoof around her shoulders, you have to lower yourself a bit to shamefully lean on her. She looks up at you and says in a curious voice. "What happened to your pretty scarf Hazel? You wear it everywhere, why not today?" You sigh quietly and respond to what she says. "It got dirty, so I had to leave it at home today.." She nodded a little at this and said in a caring tone. "Well you still look pretty without one, I woulda lent you mine if I'd known!"

You can't help but smile a little at this, although all you had done to her was be an absolute jerk to her she was always hanging around you and trying to help in almost every situation where something bad had happened to you. "Midnight..." You say quietly, she looks up at you and asks. "Yes Hazel?" You look down slowly and sigh a little. "Could...could you help me home please..?" She nodded happily and responds in her optimistic tone. "Sure thing Hazel!"

After around twenty minutes the two of you arrive at your home, she was still helping you around. As you arrive at the door you lean forward and unlock it slowly opening it, as you do this Midnight helps you inside and lies you down on a couch. She pulls up a leg rest and sits on it, she looks at you brightly and gently rubs small circles on your belly, in your head all you could do was wonder why she acted so kindly and calmly with all you put her through. As the rubbing continues you let out a contempt sigh and relax slowly, your stomach feeling at ease. You look down at the small Pegasus Kitty hybrid thing and ask quietly in a guilty tone. "Why do you treat me with so much kindness..? After all the crap I put you through you should hate me..." Midnight goes quiet a bit before looking you in the eye and saying seriously. "Before my mummy and daddy disappeared I had made a promise to them I'd be nice to everypony..it was after I had an argument with a bully.." You were slightly annoyed that she hadn't directly answered your question but softly ask again. "Yes..but why don't you hate me..? I mean...that's enough to make you want to break that..why didn't you ever retaliate?"

Midnight just gives a toothy smile and said proudly to her. "Because Hazel, then you wouldn't want to be friends." That did it, you tear up almost instantly and become a sniveling mess in seconds, Midnight screams in shock and begins blubbering out nonsense, it sounded like she was blaming herself and apologizing. What a strange and silly mare she was, you take a deep breath as you shake your head and sniffle hard and say in a shaky voice. "Midnight...how..why..why would you want..to be friends with a jerk like me...?" Midnight calms down almost instantly and then softly hugs your hoof and says into her ear quietly as if telling a secret. "Because...you really aren't a jerk, you hide all of your emotions behind that." Your hooves shake a bit and you pull her closely against you, just tightly hugging her. Emotions flood into your body, making you feel many things at once 'She knew..she somehow knew...all those times she brushed my insults off because she knew..they weren't genuine..' You think quietly as you let out a happy sigh. A few quiet purrs coming from her as she looks up at you and then snuggles up to your chest. "Is it okie if I fall asleep here?" You couldn't help but nod a little and you ruffle her messy mane gently. "Midnight, I'm fine with that..a-as long as you're fine with me falling asleep beneath you...I'm feeling all worn out, emotions do that to me.." You lie as you pull her closer and she just softly nuzzles your chest once more before falling asleep. You smile softly and soon follow suite falling asleep beneath her, falling into a land filled of happiness and an overwhelming amount of positive feelings for once. Your dream world wasn't filled with sadness, regret and pessimism in any way. You finally feel at peace with yourself.
