Game Night (WIP title)
A Prequel of Ponies
Load Full StoryTwilight Sparkle. Princess of Magic. Element of Harmony. Supremely bored being. The rays of the early sun shone through her window as she threw herself into her pillow heavily, groaning in frustration. A sound that her loyal assistant Spike, a young dragon, only knew too well. He climbed up the ladder to Twilight's bedroom loft, poking his head into the scene.
"Something wrong Twilight?" He asked.
Twilight looked up blearily at her faithful assistant. "There's nothing left to read. I've gone through every book I can, I've memorized everything." She rolled onto her back, her wings laying flat.
"I... don't have anything to read Spike..." She said, staring up at the ceiling from her soft bed.
Spike slid down the ladder quickly, dashing over to the shelves. "There's hundreds of books here Twilight. There must be some you haven't studied yet."
His diligent claws slipped over the spines of the stacked books until her grabbed one he didn't recognize. "Here, how about... Purrsian History, Fish to Fowl?" He asked hopefully, holding up the book.
Twilight closed her eyes, seeing the cover of the book in her minds eye. It opened, every word in it clear as day. She sighed loudly as she replied. "Read it. Page 257 has the Furred Carp, a delicacy thats enjoyed by the Purrsian nobility." She said, waving her hoof in the air for emphasis.
Spike dumped the tome onto the floor and grabbed for another. "Uhhm, Green Grass and Purple Cake?" He asked, holding up another, thinner book.
Twilight gave a little laugh as she rolled onto her side, looking down at spike. "That's a foals book Spike! And I've read it. Twenty-three times." She said, lying over the side of her bed.
The purple and green dragon placed the book back onto the shelf. "Well, I believe you Twilight. We can order some books from the Crystal Empires library. I bet you haven't read those yet."
Twilight groaned loudly as she rolled onto her back again. "Those would take days to get here Spike! I need some fresh books now!"
Spike placed his tiny claws onto his hips. "Well it's either that, or you can read my comic collection, or you find someone who can translate the really old books."
Twilight immediately perked up, her head rising so fast it might have given any other pony a strained neck. "What did you just say Spike?" She asked, revelation dawning on her face.
"My comics? I'm glad you asked. I recommend starting with Power Ponies meet The Batpony. It's really good, and you can read the rest of the Power Pony saga-"
Twilight suddenly interrupts him. "Nono, the old books. Where are we keeping them now?"
Twilight literally flew from her bed in excitement, landing heavily next to Spike who was pointing slightly worriedly at a slightly dusty section of the room. It was as much a corner that could exist in a largely circular room, as far away from everything as it could be.
"Twilight, look. You tried to translate one of those books last year, remember? You almost hurt yourself." Spike worriedly stammered, following close behind the excited purple pony.
Twilight shook her head as she carefully pulled a a very thick tome from the shelf, lowering it down onto a waiting pulpit using her magic. "True, but that was back before I became a princess Spike. With my new magic, surely I can translate this."
Her eyes glowed a bright white, her horn shimmering as the ancient symbols on the tomes cover shifted. Her focus blurred slightly as she tried to concentrate on the lettering, finding that it was becoming more and more clear.
The golden symbols arranged into a language now familiar to Twilight, she gently touched the tomes cover for the first time with her hoof. "Magi of the Shores present the Caves and Combat Rulebook." She whispered.
