The Equestrian War

     My name is Twilight Sparkle, I was once a royal Princess who tried to protect my subjects from harm.  That was what I did before the takeover.  Everything written in here is a copy of what happened.

     It started out as a warm summers day in Ponyville, the sun was shining and everypony was happy.  I was glad that everypony had calmed down after a bad incident that had occurred.  A few months ago, Equestria was attacked by Lord Tirek, a centaur that escaped from Tartarus to take over Equestria.  Me and my friends managed to stop him before he gained control, and we saved Equestria from harm once again.

     I was out practicing flying that day with one of my good friends, Rainbow Dash, she was the pony who taught me everything there is to know about flying.  I was flying pretty well already, but according to Rainbow Dash, there were still some things I needed to work on.  I knew how to get myself into the air and fly in any direction I wanted to, but I still had trouble making quick sharp turns.  But on that day, I managed to make all my quick turns correctly without any mistakes, I even managed to land correctly as well.  Rainbow Dash and I were going to go to Sugar Cube Corner and meet up with our other friends, until the invasion began.

     I just happened to be looking at the sky as we walked, and over the peek of a mountain just outside of Ponyville, I saw small black dots heading towards us.  At first I thought that they might be parasprites, but they were black, and parasprites are all sorts of colors, so they couldn't have been parasprites.  Rainbow Dash didn't seem to notice, she was too busy talking about the proper way to fly in heavy winds.  As they came closer, they started to look more pony-shaped,  yet they still looked somewhat odd.  After a while, the ponies all around us began to notice these strange creatures heading towards us.  We watched carefully, and as they came closer, we began to realize what these creatures were.  They were changelings, creatures that can change their appearance to match that of ponies.  When we realized what they were, there was chaos in the streets.  Some ponies began to panic and hid in nearby buildings to protect themselves, while other ponies were ready to stand and fight them off.  The alarm went out, quickly all the doors and windows were shut and barred.  Ponies were rushing everywhere to find cover, and some ponies looked around for any weapons they could use.

     I saw the look in the changelings eyes, they were out to kill us all, they had come back for revenge.  That's when I realized that we were in danger, and that we needed to find cover fast.  I told Rainbow Dash to follow me to Sugar Cube Corner, but she had anger in her eyes and she was ready to strike at the changeling army.  I wasn't going to leave her there to die, so I grabbed her by the tail and ran as fast as I could over to Sugar Cube Corner.  The good thing was, it wasn't barred up yet so we were able to get inside.

     When we got inside, Rainbow Dash started yelling at me, saying that she didn't need to be saved, and that she could have fought them off by herself.  I ignored her and started to search in the store for my friends.  I thought that maybe they got here before the changelings attacked, and stayed here for cover, but there was nopony else in the store except for me and Rainbow Dash.  After a while, other ponies started coming into the store to hide out.  Some of them I knew, and some of them I didn't.  One of them was Cheerilee, she was the teacher for the Ponyville Schoolhouse.  With her was Scootaloo, and when she saw Rainbow Dash, she ran over to her and they hugged each other for a while.  Among the rest of them was Apple Bloom, who was my friend Applejack's younger sister, a Pegasus named Thunderlane, and an Earth pony named Rose.  I didn't really know Thunderlane and Rose all that well, but they did seem like decent ponies.

     I went over to Apple Bloom and asked her if she knew where her sister was.  She told me about how she was out playing with her two other friends, and then the changelings attacked.  She and Scootaloo got separated from their other friend, Sweetie Belle, who was the younger sister of my other friend, Rarity.  They managed to escape and came to Sugar Cube Corner.  She had no idea where her sister was.  Apple Bloom was quite upset and scared, so I decided that I would look after her until we found her sister.

     After we all calmed down, we decided to come up with a plan.  They all looked to me to be the one to tell them what to do.  I knew that we needed to board up all the doors and windows so the changelings couldn't get in.  But after I told them what to do, ponies began to become suspicious of each other.  We needed to make sure that nopony was disguised as a changeling.  Luckily I had a spell that could take away a changelings disguise.  So, we lined everypony up and I checked them, and thank goodness, nopony in there was a changeling.

     It was a horrible experience, from outside the store we could hear ponies screaming for their lives.  As time passed, we began to hear less and less screaming, and then finally everything outside was quiet.  For once, we thought that we were all finally safe, until we heard scratching noises at the doors and windows, they were trying to break in.  I told everypony that we had to get out of the store, or else they were going to break in and kill us.  I thought up of a plan, that we would hide out in the Everfree Forest, it was thick forest and the changelings wouldn't be able to find us.  I told Cheerilee and Rose to take Apple Bloom and Scootaloo to the entrance of the Everfree Forest, I told them that I would escort them there, so I could protect them from the changelings.  Rainbow Dash and Thunderlane would fight off any changelings that tried to attack us as we try to leave.  Everypony seemed satisfied with the plan, so we all looked around in the store and gathered whatever supplies we needed.  We were going to escape out the back door, because almost all of the changelings were at the front.  I asked if everypony was ready, and we unbarred the back door, and I stood there ready to open the door, my hooves were trembling, and I was sweating badly, I counted to three, and I threw open the door.

     Cheerilee, Rose and the children ran as fast as there legs could carry them, I followed them, and I look back to see Rainbow Dash and Thunderlane fighting them off.  As I ran, I looked around at the little town that I used to call my home, everything was destroyed, buildings of ponies homes were burned to the ground, there were dead ponies lying in the streets, the town that only a few hours ago, was full of peace and happiness, was now a place full of anguish and despair, and I had begun to worry that maybe my other friends didn't make it.  I looked and saw that my castle was destroyed also, and I began to grow hopeless, as my home crumbled to the ground.  I still kept an eye out for any survivors, but we were unlucky to find any.  Rainbow Dash had caught up with us, but Thunderlane wasn't with her.  I asked her where Thunderlane was, and she told me that Thunderlane wanted to go and find his younger brother, Rumble. I could only hope that Thunderlane found his younger brother, and that they were safe, I also hoped that my other friends were safe and sound.

     We got to the Everfree Forest, and we ran inside.  I told the group to follow me because I knew of this open area that was a good spot for us to rest.  We got there, and everypony was out of breath from running.  I went around and made sure that they were all okay.  We had a few cuts and bruises, but other than that we were fine. I asked Apple Bloom if she was okay, she told me that she was fine, and that I shouldn't worry about her that much.  I couldn't help it.  I worried about her, it can't be easy being in a situation like this, without your sister there to protect you.  So that's why I needed to be there to protect her.

     We knew that we were going to be there for a while, so we began making a camp. We didn't have tents to pitch up, so we had to use blankets and pitch them up with sticks we found in the woods.  For beds, we used blankets stacked on top of each other and laid them out for patting.  It was getting dark, and we managed to light a fire.  In the night, the only thing we could hear was the wind, and it made us feel as if we were truly alone.  But that wasn't true, we had each other to keep us safe.  Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo sat next to each other, I heard Rainbow Dash tell Scootaloo not to worry, and promised her that this would all be over soon.  I hope that what she said was true.  Cheerilee and Rose sat near each other, and they managed to strike up a friendship.  I sat next to Apple Bloom, and she looked very worried and scared.  I tried to reassure her, and say that everything would turn out fine in the end.  She told me that she was worried about her family.  I told her that I was sure that wherever they were, they were safe.

     We sat there silent for a moment, until we heard something coming towards us in the woods.  I told Apple Bloom to get behind me.  Rainbow Dash and I were ready to strike at the uninvited guest, until it was revealed to be Thunderlane.  We all managed to calm down.  Thunderlane told us that he had no luck in finding his younger brother.  We made him a shelter to stay in and he went to bed early.

     I told the group that we might be the last hope to save Ponyville.  So I proposed that tomorrow we would go into Ponyville and look for any survivors.  We would create an army, and we would take down the army of changelings.  Everyone agreed to that plan.  We stayed up a little longer, and then we all went to bed.  Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo shared a bed with each other, Cheerilee, Rose, and Thunderlane had there own beds, and me and Apple Bloom shared the same bed, I asked if she wanted to sleep by herself, but she said that she would feel better if I slept with her.  So I told Apple Bloom goodnight, and we fell asleep.

     I was asleep until, Apple Bloom woke up in the middle of the night.  She informed me that she needed to go to the bathroom.  She was only gone for about a minute.  Then I heard a high-pitched scream.  I rushed out of bed, and I saw in the darkness the lifeless body of Apple Bloom, and Thunderlane was standing over her.  I became enraged, and I pounced upon Thunderlane and I yelled at him with tears in my eyes asking why he hurt her.  Then I realized that this wasn't the real Thunderlane, I performed my spell, and it turned out he was a changeling the whole time.  The changeling disguised as Thunderlane must have followed us into the forest.  I rushed over to Apple Bloom, I examined her as much as I could, and it turns out that the changeling had attacked her and broke her neck.  Apple Bloom was dead.  I had failed to keep her safe.  I sat there holding her body in my arms all night long, sobbing bitterly.
