Young Baseball
Semi-Finals: Part 1/2 (Short)
Previous ChapterThe team all said their pledge to Equestria, sang by Fluttershy, and got ready to play ball. Apple Bloom sat lonely on one side of the bench next to Speedster and Fortis.
"Ah don't know what Ah did..." Apple Bloom said after crying herself out, she had never been dumped before, probably because Golden was her only boyfriend. She never thought how much it would hurt.
"You didn't do anything," Fortis replied. "He just forgot about how important our friendship is. Trust me, once we show him off, he will regret dumping you."
"Thanks Storm." Apple Bloom said. She looked at Speed. "Uhh, aint y'all supposed ta bat know?"
"Uh, be right back." He ran off to get his batting helmet. Since they were road last game and Babs' team was home, the Elements were road once more.
"Don't worry, focus on showing your cousin how good you are." Fortis said before patting Apple Bloom on the back.
"Hey yeah, Ah can hit off Babs!" She exclaimed. She was telling the whole team about her pitches, top speed, and poor accuracy, but she stopped when Babs took the mound.
Babs picked up the ball and looked to the catcher, Shadow Pulse, Speedster's lifetime friend, and smirked. Scootaloo looked up into the announcers booth and gave an audible,"Huh?"
"What is it Scoot?" Sweetie Belle said, followed by the rest of the group. Including Sulfer.
"There is a weird-looking creature in the booth." Scootaloo pointed toward the creature. It wore a red hat with an A on it, a halo surrounded it. He had a uniform that read "Angles" on the front. When he turned to talk to someone, his jersey read "TROUT" in red caps. He wore the number 27.
"Is that thing a... baseball player?" Sulfer asked.
"Strike one!" Called the umpony. Everypony turned to see Speedster sitting on the ground and the bat flying toward the crowd. He drew a spin-out.
"Come on Speedy!" Sweetie Belle chanted. Though she knew he was never a good contact player, but when he did make contact, he was at second in the blink of an eye.
Speed stepped in again and got ready for the next pitch. Scootaloo turned back to spy on the creature some more, but it wasn't there. She gave the same puzzled look Speed gave the umpony on the second pitch.
"He's not looking for his pitch to frequently is he." Said a young voice but rough voice from behind. Scootaloo jumped and turned around. She coward in fear at the 6' 1" monster in front of her.
"Whoa!" Apple Bloom said in shock. "Yer tall!"
"I don't get that often, I'm Michael." He said holding out tentacle like things from his palm. Just then Speedster spun-out again for out number one. Scootaloo hesitated before taking his palm and shaking it.
"You seem friendly." Sweetie Belle said.
"Well, I'm not one to-" He was cut off by Scootaloo.
"What are you doing here?!" She shouted.
"Whoa calm down!" He said with his palms up. "I'm Michael Trout, you can call me Mike, I'm an outfielder for the 2014 world champions Angels." He said with pride in his voice, remembering Game 6 in which they defeated the Giants (my prediction).
"The what?" Sulfer said.
"The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? We just won the World Series!" He said with his arms out.
"Doesn't ring any bells." Apple Bloom said.
"Kids these days... don't know a champion when they see one." Mike said to himself. "Say, where is that player Albert liked so much? Is it Golden Bullet?"
Those words struck Apple Bloom.
"He quit, he went to play for the Phillies." Sweetie Belle explained.
"That lousy team?" He gave a hearty laugh. "Their manager is nothing but a load of-"
"Hold it!" Speed said as he joined the conversation. Sweetie departed to the plate.
"Who are you?" Mike asked Speed.
"I should be asking you that." He said pointing a hoof at him.
"Uhh, I heard your teammate joined one of our league teams. Well, our baseball league teams. Is he that good?" Mike said, trying to change subject.
"Yeah, he was MVP of the year last year. Why?"
"Because, I'd like to join your team."
